LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is facing numerous charges after police say he was selling drugs out of his residence.
According to court documents, 38-year-old Michael R. Winchester was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 at his home in the 3500 block of Foreman Lane, which is just off Blue Lick Road near the Outer Loop.
Bullitt County police began conducting surveillance on Winchester's residence after receiving a tip from a reliable source that Winchester was selling drugs in varying amounts, ranging from "ounces to pounds."
While the home was under surveillance, detectives saw another man "visit residence for a short period of time." According to the arrest report, after that suspect left Winchester's residence, detectives stopped him for expired registration tags. During the traffic stop, detectives say they found one ounce of marijuana. That's when the suspect told detectives he had left his 6-year-old son at the residence.
When detectives knocked on Winchester's door, he refused to turn the child over to detectives without a warrant. According to the arrest report, Winchester then pushed two children toward a back door, before demanding that detectives "get the _____ off the property."
Police say Winchester than grabbed another child from the door and ran back into the house, yelling: "That kid's not mine either!"
Detectives say they already had information indicating that Winchester carried a gun with the serial numbers filed off so they entered the residence out of fear for the children's safety. After entering the house, detectives called for a search warrant. After searching the residence, detectives found the weapon, along with marijuana, marijuana butter, Xanax pills, Fentanyl patches, codeine, cocaine, Valium, as well as nearly $25,000 in cash.
Winchester now faces several charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a defaced firearm, wanton endangerment, trafficking in a controlled substance, and trafficking in marijuana.
