The black bear thought he'd struck gold: an open door, an empty kitchen and a fridge stocked with food.

The shaggy burglar took his time, even stopping for a drink from a fancy water feature on his stroll into the Pasadena home.

Little did he know what awaited him: The wrath of Mei Mei and Squirt.

The two tiny terriers rose to the moment as if their lives, and kibble, depended on it.

First Mei Mei and then Squirt slid their little furry souls across the kitchen tiles, launching themselves up the garden steps, bombarding the beast with barks until he fled. The young bear was so shaken by the might of the doggy duo he peed on the steps as he made his leave.

“Based on the barks, I knew something was up,” Pasadena resident Deedee Mueller said on Facebook. She revealed that Mei Mei, the first to react, was curled up on her lap before jumping off to defend her home.

“Thank god we have these two fierce dogs protecting us ... they don’t know what fear is, but I was sweating for them.”

The incident, on April 10, was captured on Mueller's security cameras.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story stated that the bear is a brown bear. While it is a bear that is brown, it is not a brown bear; it is a black bear (that is brown). The story has been updated to reflect this.
