I love it when an artist explores a font through the font that they are discovering. SchoolComp:Poster1-Garamond by djsoundwav highlights this well used serif type face by paying tribute to its detail. This deviation has found the G spot and I love the feeling it produces. All of the holes have been filled in with O's and extra sweet nothings. Check out that, "b"! It has an, "O" in it! It's like an English gentleman spilling upon a letter! The coffee stains are not going to come out with dry cleaning. Isn't text interesting? It has its own personality. Try it and you will be addicted! I highly recommend Garamond as your mode of communication. It's defined by the typist! That's why we are here as artists together. Find the mode that defines your work!

• My FIRST DD... I am completely speechless. Took me by surprise big time. I actually thought it was a virus when I saw all the messages. I thanked ^patgroove so much I think I annoyed him lol His description of the project is absolutely beautiful and scary. To all that have visited I thank you and appreciate you taking the time to critique and look at my gallery so much you wouldn't believe. I am making sure I respond to all the comments, I'm not so sure I can get to all the

thanks a lot!
Was browsing deviations with type and this stood out. I really love how you kept the design principles here, not to mention the typography in and of itself.
'd
Thank you kindly!!! I appreciate the advance critique
great!
thank you very much!!
brilliant! ^__^
thanks many!
just awesome. and i love how you made a letter out of letters
letters = letters = love.
Outstanding work!
thank you very much!
Really good work! After studying typography for a couple of years, I have a great appreciation for this poster.
thank you very much! I, too, learned to appreciate this sort of work. Typography is beautiful.
how did you fit all the letters to create the big G?
lots of work and lots of rearranging..
hey i finally figured how its done. i did almost similar work to this but the arrengement of letters and content is different. I'll be making a tutorial on DA very soon.
oh, so it wasn't a retorical question. so sorry! Yea, let me see how you did it. I probably did it the hardway. Used the 'G' as a background template in illustrator then positioned accordingly.
Let me see what you did!
very nice!
LLLOL!! i did the same but in photoshop
wait till you see the tutorial
wait till you see the tutorial
I'm doing the same assignment in my type class right now. Mine's on Firmin Didot. Yours came out very nicely- I just wish my class was allowed to use photoshop instead of cut paper. XD Limits my options.
LOL. yea definitely does. I used Adobe Illustrator and believe me... its the best thing that has happened to Typography
good luck with that!
I adore your exploration of this letter and its detail... and the way in which you have jumbled the letters and yet still not gone into complete disarray is really beautiful. The letters-inside-letters are fascinating, and while the featurer's words are... strange... I feel they hit the spot.

This is really inventive work!

Many thanks for the advanced critique. I appreciate that!
this is like an ode to a font and its creator

Claude Garamond, may he rest in peace.. //dude this is amazing, you've unlocked the beauty of this legendary font!
oh and uh, did you know he died broke? poor guy man.
oh the poor fella
...I thought he was an affluent person..because of his name lol.
wow, dude, thats almost poetic. thanks man!
All the love letters I have sent, I wrote them in Garamond. The curves of its lines echo the right temperance of love and boldness--and so does this piece. Lovely work.
I think that was the kindest comment I've ever gotten. I think I'm in love @_@ lol thanks, I want to say "sweet of you" but I don't want to demean it. Beautifully said and so true about Garamond.
It's very rare that I see really good typography. This deserves more than a fav. c: It's really inspiring.
thank you sir. I really appreciate the comment!
Whoo, I got called sir! c: You made my day. x3 keep up the good work!

i think i love you because of this lol

Ha. Very nice. In my Graphic Design class last year I did a lettergraph with garamond, so I know it well. Nicely done!
yea, Gary (as I like to call him) is indeed a charmer. lol Thanks for the comment. I like your photography
AWESOME, i am a first year graphic design student so i like to see stuff like this cuz sometimes i have to do typoghraphy stuff, very nice that, you should have used the font "Garmund" (or something like that) very nice tho, i enjoy it thoroughly!
yes, I do the same here on dA to get inspiration. Thanks for the comment though I don't know what to make of: "you should have used the font "Garmund" (or something like that)" if its a joke, pun, or anything of the sort. lol
"Garmund" and "Garamund", similar kinda?
tomatoe tomato
Beautiful work and appreciated by all us type junkies!
definitely! you are a type-junkie in disguise
I saw your profile. Thanks!! I appreciate it.
Well considering I teach Typography among other things... but I do try and keep my computer geek side well hidden. Its great to see a designer really make use of type as a graphical element and do it really well. Keep up the great work.. and if you dont mind Id love to show some of your designs to my students.
wow, thank you... again. Please by all means, if I can be of help to students, thats' pretty awesome. One day I hope to teach what I love.
Brilliant typography and design... nicely done.
Congrats on the "Daily D"!

Congrats on the "Daily D"!

Nice picture, by the way.
Nice picture, by the way.
yea, I dunno what's better... his explanation or the deviation! thanks!!
Hehe. I like the way you made a letter out of letters, but the explanation is hilarious.
Are you personally acquainted with this person? It's too elaborate for you not to be.
lol you know what, unbelievably I'm not. Though now I'm in his debt
Haha, I guess so. XP Nice talking to you.
Haha. Sounds nice! ^^
Garamond is my yearbook teacher's favorite font. She's a self-proclaimed fontaholic - she is even planning on naming her first dog Garamond! I would love to see this as a print, partly because it's very well done, and partly for her and the rest of us font geeks!
I had several requests for it so I made it a print. large one at that, primarily for your teachs.
Thanks so much! :hugs:
no prob.
garamond, the queen of types!
indeed? well... I didn't know he crossdressed much... but yea def a queen.
if its a good thing.
What a fun play with font! I really like this look.
who said Serifs had to be boring right! Garamond is loads of fun when you use him on designs and not on midterm papers
thanks!!!
I have to favorite this because

thanks for the detailed explanation lol I appreciate you, thanks!
I love me some Garamond. I really do...the way that it bleeds off the edges works so well....and the comments really made me laugh. Revolutionary fonts!
I so want to do this too. Are you taking this class in college?
I so want to do this too. Are you taking this class in college?
yea that bleed was tricky. Had a bit of working on it so it would sit tight. Garamond is a ladies man!
Yes, in University... Miami International U of Art and Design. in other words and Art Institute!

I was smiling like an idiot when I read ^patgroove's detailed praise for this, but when it comes down to it, I actually like it about that much too. It's incredible what you can get out of something as simple as a font. And this font in particular was my favourite for nearly six months.
LOLOL yea too funny and now that's two of you that share the feeling. ha. I think typography is one of Gods' many gifts to us designers. Thanks for the comment.
really nice! i use this font in my works for university too! is a gooooood font ^^
thank you very much!! you know, I use Garamond not just for design... but for papers I have to turn in hoping that with "garamond" as my choice type, I get a better grade... doesn't work though
Yes! Like your thinking is a good source for projects!
Not even running another good design recognizes that
the work is well done!

i was hoping to find story behind the rearranged words though
wow, thanks! yea after it was finished, I thought it would've been neat to find words within the puzzle of words. If you look closely, there is "cuz"... that's a word right?
This is fantastic.
thank you!
Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing!

thank you very much and thanks for the
wow! Fantastic composition! Just one thing that doesn't really matters, this Garamond is Jannon's version, not Claude Garamond's. Anyway, excellent work! It's going to my favorites!
hmmmmm.... I can't believe I looked over that. I blame it on my Typography Hierarchy Professor! lol
for the record, to all experienced Type-junkies... my sincere apologies.
for the record, to all experienced Type-junkies... my sincere apologies.
Like I said, it doesn't really matters, you've done a very good work!

thanks that's very nice of you!
I added the color palette link above in case you want to take a look at it. Thanks again.
hey! thanks!
NICE!!
thanks!
This is a very nice piece, the typography is splendid, and the color combination serves it very well, it helps draw out the actual name, but while allowing the rest of the "G" to serve as an eye-pleasing background.
This is fantastic, definitely
This is fantastic, definitely
excellent! thanks! Your advanced critique is def appreciated. That 'G' took a nice amount of time out of me
No prob man, keep up the fantastic work
Incredible composition and fantastic formation of the Garamond G with the letters. I have no real complaints about this piece at all. Only thing for me, and it its just a suggestion, would be to try some texture that's in the top in the bottom left corner to maybe take up some of that white space thats there. Like I said, that doesn't even have to done. Excellent work.
no its ok I understand what you're sayin. Thanks for the advanced critique!
oh and again, thank you, like I told the dude above you, that 'G' took a while, so its awesome that it is getting so much attention. Thanks again for the wonderful words.
Hey no problem at all, always a pleasure to review some great work.
