Yes! In fact, it was after reading Kurzweil's 1999 book "Age of Spiritual Machines" that I decided to sit down and figure out what my own time estimate to AGI was. That then caused me to go and do a PhD in AI in 2003, and then after that to co-found DeepMind in 2010.
