A reminder that I'm not posting here anymore! You can follow me on Mastodon at @andybaio@xoxo.zone. I'm pretty happy over there. Some features:
☑️ No ads, forever!
☑️ Post editing!
☑️ Free and open APIs!
☑️ Block entire servers!
☑️ Can't be ruined by the whims of a billionaire!
For The Verge's Design series, I wrote about my personal experience living with colorblindness, how it's widely misunderstood by people without color vision deficiency, and ways to design for it. theverge.com/23650428/colorb…
After 20 years of tracking leaked screeners, my final Oscars piracy post ends with a bang: this is the first year where *zero* screeners leaked. waxy.org/2023/03/pirating-th…
Ami’s new game is live on Kickstarter! It’s super charming, and like always, I helped with production design and editing. (She also added an early bird discount for the first 24 hours.) Check it out, watch the video, and go back it!
Cloud Nine: A Game of Wonderful Things, with illustrations by Lisa Congdon is on Kickstarter now! I’ve never done a 24 hour special so go have a look! Plus there’s a How to Play video- also something new from me! Love you all thank you for your support!! kickstarter.com/projects/ami…
And once you move, put your Mastodon handle in your Twitter bio so everyone can find you! But don't wait: After February 9, the free Twitter API will go away, making it MUCH harder to migrate. Even if you're on the fence, I HIGHLY encourage you to set up an account and do it now.
Confused about Mastodon?
- Use Fedifinder to find an open server to join where your Twitter contacts are. (You can move later!) fedifinder.glitch.me/
- Mastodon Flock to migrate Twitter contacts: mastodon-flock.vercel.app/
- Ice Cubes (free) and Ivory (paid) are excellent iOS apps
Almost 180k new users joined #mastodon yesterday, a new record. This third #twitterMigration wave happened after Musk's Twitter 2.0 ultimatum to #Twitter workers. Each wave is stronger than the previous one. Here is my updated plot showing the three consecutive waves.
If you’re using Mastodon, please put your handle or a link to your profile somewhere in your Twitter name/description/url so tools like Fedifinder can help people find you! fedifinder.glitch.me/
In case things DO blow up, you can find me over on Mastodon: xoxo.zone/@andybaio
And I'm still blogging like it's 2003: waxy.org/
P.S. Can we all go back to RSS now?
I don't know if Twitter will implode any time soon, but it'll never be the same. To everyone at Twitter, past and present, who worked so hard to made those connections possible: thanks for your service. 🫡
A reminder to everyone making stuff: For every random jerk trashing you online, there are many more who quietly love you.
And if you love someone's work? Tell them. They probably need to hear it right now.
I made so many friends through Twitter and met so many people I admire, I can't begin to count them all. Every year, I booked most of @xoxo through DMs. Twitter was so ingrained into our festival, we built our registration and attendee directory on it.
I joined Twitter in November 2006 (user #13,461), but waited two months for my first tweet. And I didn't really GET IT until a couple months later at SXSW 2007. Since then, I've posted a little over 43,000 tweets, like this one.
My latest cross-stitch, inspired by the cover art of “Kind of Bloop”— @waxpancake’s 8-bit tribute to Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue.” If you’re not familiar, it’s a fascinating story of digital music, fair use, and copyright law! Full story here: waxy.org/2011/06/kind_of_scr…

Most people will remember Gallagher as the watermelon sledgehammer guy or as a racist right-wing homophobe who sued his lookalike brother for stealing his act, but let’s not forget he was also the star of one of the worst arcade games ever made piped.video/oykifp2ADiQ
If you're confused by the new Twitter Verification feature, I've been working with some friends on a Chrome Extension that helps you tell the difference
