Once engaged in a five week massacre in Novgorod, merely because he
suspected the town was going to defect to Poland. Estimates range as high
as 60,000 dead in the bacchanal; this time in his reign known
as his "Bad Period".
Ivan inherited the Russian throne at the age of three. His mother ruled on his behalf, until she was poisoned when he was only seven.
By age twelve, Ivan had adopted a habit of throwing live animals from towers. Two or three years later he began throwing people off the towers.
