You can link to a specific PDF page by appending '#page=N' to the URL. eg to link to released text samples of Megatron: arxiv.org/pdf/1909.08053…
(So PDFs are 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 hyperlinkable than most HTML pages, which oft omit divs/sections.)

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 25Sounds like a good reason to bet against it: to hedge against failure. If everything goes well, after all, you'll be well-placed to afford Tesla's products...

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 22Interesting cat fact: apparently it's well-known among researchers that cats hate their food being near their water, like the usual double-bowl holder.
Sure enough, my cat ate more and messed less. I then tried not adding water to his food in randomized pairs of bowls, and yep.

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 24Idle math question: is there anything on *un*sorting lists? That is, maximizing the total 'distance' between like items.
This is not a shuffle or a 'derangement' but I haven't seen any names for this yet. (I first wondered about this years ago in the context of music playlists.)

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 6Bad research never really goes away. Today someone suggested I look into a colonoscopy because Promethease/SNPedia reports a SNP with elevated colon cancer risk for me—published in Stanford & Johns Hopkins! (He'd never heard of a 'candidate-gene' or their ~0% replication rate.)
𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 25Another neat one found by Tufte: twitter.com/edwardtufte/st… (although I guess at this point religious scriptures are 'easy mode' for finding rubrication examples).

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 22(Wittgenstein: "But what would it have looked like if it had 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘥 as if cats were unhappy with water bowls near their food or water being added to their wet foods?"
ME: [sad puppy dog eyes while whimpering at him]
Wittgenstein: "Exactly!")

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 22All these years & cats and I'd always assumed they were fine with the convenient arrangement. They ate the food, didn't they? They didn't 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 unhappy. Yet, obvious when tested.
To quote Kie Tie: '[it] shows humanity has not yet scratched the surface of the truth of cats'.
𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 10Q. What did the judge say about the pastry thief?
A. "Take this man into custardy!"

𝔊𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔫@gwernNov 5TIL: you can buy human earwax online, but at extortionate prices: leebio.com/product/136/ea…
Anyway, to expand further: I've noticed cats also seem to have a species hierarchy of earwax preferences: cats < dogs < human. (This undermines the 'information gathering' theory of wax.)
