I'm sure this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it with the search function. I would like to know if it is possible for LE to be able to read PM's between buyers and sellers. Is pgp encryption used because it is believed that LE could view your PM's or is it more in case the site or the seller is compromised?
-
PGP is used because it is possible for LE to get access to the PMs/Orders if they compromise the server or someone who has access to it. If the seller goes bad PGP isn't going to help you.

Not to highjack the OP's thread but would you guys recommend encrypting any and all PM's to vendors even if were just asking them a simple question?

encrypt anything you wouldn't want a federal agent to read should the site be compromised!

If it is a simple question where you do not reveal anything about yourself or the vendor but just asking about products then I would not use PGP. Sellers get swamped with pm's and having to use PGP to read takes up a lot more time so many prefer no PGP for basic non incriminating type of messages.

Thanks Wretched and OldGuard.
