Title: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: opentoe on March 23, 2013, 02:21 am
Hey, if a spammer can post 30 messages and fill the entire three pages of spam messages then I can do this to raise my post count so I can actually contribute to the REAL forum.

I've been trying to post in the PRODUCT REQUEST forum all day and I can't. What the hell is up with that ?

Anyways I'm searching for 100 grams of mephedrone or mdma. Someone give me some prices dammit lol !!

I was able to send some PMs tho.

Anyways again, hello fellow newbies !!!! :)

Then again, maybe the Newbie board is the best place for that. For the true newbies, those new to the forums AND SR itself, RCs are what we've had to rely on, too naive to know better. Too straight to know the dude man in real life for anything beyond the ganja,  or perhaps too lazy.

@MFresh:
Hello friend, welcome to the coolest place on the newbie board. TommyTucka over here was just providing some musings about life as a newbie, strung out on research chemicals while he waits on International orders of that elusive "good shit."

This is probably a stupid question, but have you tried searching on the Road? There has to be someone there who can fill your order, although it's a pretty massive one (by my standards anyways...I'm a poor, poor man). If your desired amounts aren't listed, try messaging some of the SR vendors, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to relieve you of your bitcoins. Maybe get it shipped in multiple installments, idk. I never buy big; just enough for me, myself, and sometimes I

nice, good call. Hopefully you'll hear back from some others. Are you looking at domestic only or international? I think there are way more vendors with way better quality overseas.

I'm from the states too! Northern midwest. Whereabouts are you?

And where'd you get that name? it reminds me of the intro to workaholics, if you've seen it. If not, go watch the show right now.

And so, as he makes his 51st post, little Tommy Tucka proves to himself and the world that he ain't no clucker. He moves on to the big leagues, the main event, and all told, the dream of the "other forums." It's been real for lil' TT in the newbie pad, and he would be the first to acknowledge it. But the times they are a-changin, and a hard rain's a-gonna fall. But the answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind, and so is tommy.

Ayo whaddup yall - shout out to my man BoyMaster, the homie pharmacypowder (review comin soon my man!), Liston, MFresh - I know we just met, but shiiit, real recognize real yo. The one and only Mike Tyson, and Cus D'amato, still waitin for that cage match. ContrabandOnDemand, DeluxeDelivery, QualityMeds, Natasha, etc. Keep it up. Thanks to Opentoe for getting this thread started and catapulting me into the 50+ range. Whaddup Walter White, you crazy murderin' sonnofabitch. Props to Wadozo for guiding me through my early days, and to Scout for always helping out. Finally, a moment of silence for the late Mac Dre.

Blucka blucka blucka. Tommy Tucka, muthafucka.

Yep, took that way too seriously, or not serious enough. WTF am I doing? I'm gonna go post on some benzo thread now in the rumor mill!
But for real, Wadozo and Scout kick ass, along with all the good folks in the PGP practice thread. It's good to have their help.

@ELAV8:
Newbies can still post in customer support, and I'd highly recommend doing so. That got me a full refund in a similar situation with no communication, etc. In fact, I just posted about it in another thread: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=137037.0
Hope that helps. And again, post in the customer support forum. They have mods that will get back to you within a few hours if not quicker and give you step by step advice.

The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places.
But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now

Hey! (unintelligible exclamation). (Pause) And I said, you've touched the ark. It's no longer a wooden box, it's no longer a paper Bible. Jeremiah said, get rid of the paper box, the talisman, the ark of the covenant, and I said get a— rid of the letter, 'cause the letter killeth. I've told you, as I did in the day of Jesus, go out without purse or scripture. (Pause) Don't go out with anything but the Living Word. (Pause) [You] Say, "I don't have it." Well, then, get around me. You'll get it. (Pause) You'll get it. (Voice rises) I'll make you fishers of men. I'll give you power. I'll cause you to go forth and lay hands on all these— these oppressive devils, all these oppressive spirits that've held us down in racism. You get around me, and I will send you out (Cries out) in my name, and you will set the people free.

Think I can't do it? I've done it, as I said, I've sent them to all of our churches, and I sit at home, writing letters, and told them who to call out, and who to take out of wheelchairs, though I'd be 4000 miles away, I would tell them what to do, because (Voice rises) I'm on the scene. I said, I am that I am has come. The very same Jesus, and the very same God.

(Calm) Talk to them. Henderson, talk to them, so they don't make any unwise mistakes. In any case that they make wrong moves. Peace. (Pause) You know, if someone had written a book about you, and you were over here in New York and they'd written a book out in California that had told a whole lot of lies about you, some old king had come along, and he held race slaves, as I said, we— The blacks amaze me the most. They'll hold onto that black book. And King James was the first one that sent the Good Ship Jesus to Africa, to bring us back in slave chains. The way they got us, the way they got the Union of South Africa today, a black person cannot even go out of the house after six o'clock at night in Union of South Africa. And Africa no longer controls. They killed— they came there in the name of the Calvinist Baptist faith, a few years ago, Union of South Africa, said they were gonna educate the people, and Africa didn't need any education, they had all they needed. They had freedom, they had the land, but they sit down and let those missionaries talk to them, and while the missionary, one of them was talking to them, the rest of them took the rest of them off, and killed them. Killed their leaders. And now in the Union of South Africa today, a woman cannot be with her husband, because she has to work— he has to work, and they cannot travel at night more than a mile from where they work, so a wife will not see her husband for a year, or her children. (Pause) (Calls out) You wake up over there, child, I'll throw some water on you.

I know him when he wouldn't have a thing to do with me or my companion, because we'd adopted a black child, who is Jim Jones Jr. He's there for black people's money, but you don't see any black piece— black people's housing, you don't see any colleges or dormitories like I have, you don't see any sanatoriums like I have, you don't see any Greyhound buses for the people like I have, you don't see any land— I've got acres of fields of greens and potatoes and strawberries and pears and tomatoes, I've got pears and grapes, I've got the harvest on a th— hundred hills. (Cries out) You don't see anything down there but an old building, you can't even paint it, 'cause all they want to do is get as much out of it, he's gonna get as much out of it as he can, and then he'll be gone.

[You] Said, you've done stop preachin' and gone to meddlin'. (Voice rises) Well, it's the same one that just raised that woman from the dead, when she was white as a sheet, when the blood was falling over her hair, that's the (draws out word) same one, the one that just resurrected her tonight, the same one that healed that woman and took her out of the cast, the same one that stopped the cancer in this that operated five times, the same one that caused her to spit up the cancer, the same one that raised that woman from the dead there. I'm a nigger until everybody is free, till everybody that's treated niggardly is free, I am a nigger. I don't care if you're an Italian nigger, or you're Jewish or an Indian (claps hands once), the only people that're getting anything in this country are the people that got the money, baby. That's the only one. They're the only ones not niggers in this country. (Pause) (Quiet voice) I don't care. It's wonderful. Some preacher down there, wantin' to get his people out of here. Spirit of truth. Hallelujah. I never did finish his story, and I shall finish his story. Don't need to worry if they throw you out of church. I'll get you on that Greyhound bus, you don't have a penny. And I'll give you the finest room you ever saw. I don't have anything but orange crate in my room, because I've taken everything out and made antiques in every senior citizen home, the most beautiful rugs, air-conditioning, beautiful. You don't need to worry. Let that preacher go. He just wantin' your tithes anyway. Just get on my bus, and I'll take you on to the Promised Land. Hey, the Spirit! God!

There are Joneses and then there are Joneses. There've been Joneses around this town, holdin' meetings for years. They haven't got one acre. They haven't given one job. They haven't established one senior citizen homes. I've established so many, I cannot count them. I could not right now tell you how many buildings we have, how many apartments we have for the needy, I could not tell you how many children really are in college, that our church is paying. I could not tell you how many tons of food we have sent to Africa or Wounded Knee. I could not tell you, because I come here in old used shirts and old used robes, while those preachers drive around in Cadillacs, they wouldn't have you in their dining room, they would have you through— come through their door, they'll take your money, but you'd have to slip through their back door. They don't want nothin' to do with you.

All they want is your money. (Pause) It's all right, remember who you're walking out on. (Pause) Vernelle. Speak. (Pause) I'll tell you what I feel. I don't like to speak in terms that the man speaks in, but when Jesus had to, he got on the level, he said, sons of hell. He said I— you've cleaned outside of a platter, but the inside you're filled with all kinds of things. He said some things that King James cut out. If you heard all he said, you'd really be shook up. (Pause) That's what I got to say. That's what I got to say tonight, for white man's niggers. (Pause) I'm a field nigger. You say, I'm Jewish. Well, you're a field nigger too. They killed six million of you. You thought you were the Chosen People 'cause a book told you so, but they murdered— Dr. [Richard] Tropp is member— a member of my church, he lost 60 of his relatives in Germany, they murdered them. (Pause) (Calls out) Where you gone? Where you going, children? Who's gonna fight for you when you get in trouble? Better talk to that woman that's a registered nurse coming in, that would've died, if she hadn't known me. Where are you going, just because I'm giving you the truth? (Pause) Talk to them folk. suggesting that the meaning of our words "just ain't in the head",
and hold that this externalism about meaning carries over into an externalism about mind.

We propose to pursue a third position. We
advocate a very different sort of externalism: an active externalism,
based on the active role of the environment in driving cognitive
processes.

Consider three cases of human problem-solving:
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 07:46 pm
(1) A person sits in front of a computer screen which displays
images of various two-dimensional geometric shapes and is asked
to answer questions concerning the potential fit of such shapes into
depicted "sockets". To assess fit, the person must mentally rotate
the shapes to align them with the sockets.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 07:48 pm
(2) A person sits in front of a similar computer screen, but this time
can choose either to physically rotate the image on the screen, by
pressing a rotate button, or to mentally rotate the image as before.
We can also suppose, not unrealistically, that some speed
advantage accrues to the physical rotation operation.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 07:49 pm
(3) Sometime in the cyberpunk future, a person sits in front of a
similar computer screen. This agent, however, has the benefit of a
neural implant which can perform the rotation operation as fast as
the computer in the previous example. The agent must still choose
which internal resource to use (the implant or the good old
fashioned mental rotation), as each resource makes different
demands on attention and other concurrent brain activity.

How much cognition is present in these cases? We suggest that all
three cases are similar. Case (3) with the neural implant seems
clearly to be on a par with case (1).
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 08:58 pm
And case (2) with the rotation
button displays the same sort of computational structure as case
(3), although it is distributed across agent and computer instead of internalized within the agent.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 08:59 pm
If the rotation in case (3) is cognitive,
by what right do we count case (2) as fundamentally different? We
cannot simply point to the skin/skull boundary as justification,
since the legitimacy of that boundary is precisely what is at issue.
But nothing else seems different
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:00 pm
The kind of case just described is by no means as exotic as it may
at first appear. It is not just the presence of advanced external
computing resources which raises the issue, but rather the general
tendency of human reasoners to lean heavily on environmental
supports.

Thus consider the use of pen and paper to perform long
multiplication (McClelland et al 1986, Clark 1989), the use of
physical re-arrangements of letter tiles to prompt word recall in
Scrabble (Kirsh 1995), the use of instruments such as the nautical
slide rule (Hutchins 1995), and the general paraphernalia of
language, books, diagrams, and culture.

In all these cases the
individual brain performs some operations, while others are
delegated to manipulations of external media. Had our brains been
different, this distribution of tasks would doubtless have varied.

and (2) are real. The cases reflect options available to players of
the computer game Tetris.

In Tetris, falling geometric shapes must
be rapidly directed into an appropriate slot in an emerging
structure. A rotation button can be used.

Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:07 pm
David Kirsh and Paul
Maglio (1994) calculate that the physical rotation of a shape
through 90 degrees takes about 100 milliseconds, plus about 200
milliseconds to select the button.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:09 pm
To achieve the same result by
mental rotation takes about 1000 milliseconds.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:09 pm
Kirsh and Maglio
go on to present compelling evidence that physical rotation is used
not just to position a shape ready to fit a slot, but often to help
determine whether the shape and the slot are compatible.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:11 pm
The latter
use constitutes a case of what Kirsh and Maglio call an `epistemic
action'. Epistemic actions alter the world so as to aid and augment
cognitive processes such as recognition and search.

Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:13 pm
Epistemic action, we suggest, demands spread of epistemic credit.
If, as we confront some task, a part of the world functions as a
process which, were it done in the head, we would have no
hesitation in recognizing as part of the cognitive process, then that
part of the world is (so we claim) part of the cognitive process.
Cognitive processes ain't (all) in the head!
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:14 pm
In these cases, the human organism is linked with an external
entity in a two-way interaction, creating a coupled system that can
be seen as a cognitive system in its own right.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:15 pm
All the components
in the system play an active causal role, and they jointly govern
behavior in the same sort of way that cognition usually does.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:16 pm
If we
remove the external component the system's behavioral
competence will drop, just as it would if we removed part of its
brain. Our thesis is that this sort of coupled process counts equally
well as a cognitive process, whether or not it is wholly in the head.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:17 pm
This externalism differs greatly from standard variety advocated by
Putnam (1975) and Burge (1979). When I believe that water is wet
and my twin believes that twin water is wet, the external features
responsible for the difference in our beliefs are distal and
historical, at the other end of a lengthy causal chain.

Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....

Features of
the present are not relevant: if I happen to be surrounded by XYZ
right now (maybe I have teleported to Twin Earth), my beliefs still
concern standard water, because of my history. In these cases, the
relevant external features are passive.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:18 pm
Because of their distal
nature, they play no role in driving the cognitive process in the
here-and-now. This is reflected by the fact that the actions performed by me and my twin are physically indistinguishable,
despite our external differences.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:19 pm
In the cases we describe, by contrast, the relevant external features
are active, playing a crucial role in the here-and-now. Because they
are coupled with the human organism, they have a direct impact on
the organism and on its behavior.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:20 pm
In these cases, the relevant parts
of the world are in the loop, not dangling at the other end of a long
causal chain. Concentrating on this sort of coupling leads us to an
active externalism, as opposed to the passive externalism of
Putnam and Burge.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:22 pm
Many have complained that even if Putnam and Burge are right
about the externality of content, it is not clear that these external
aspects play a causal or explanatory role in the generation of
action.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:22 pm
In counterfactual cases where internal structure is held
constant but these external features are changed, behavior looks
just the same; so internal structure seems to be doing the crucial
work.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:23 pm
We will not adjudicate that issue here, but we note that
active externalism is not threatened by any such problem. The
external features in a coupled system play an ineliminable role - if
we retain internal structure but change the external features,
behavior may change completely.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:24 pm
The external features here are
just as causally relevant as typical internal features of the brain.[*]
*[[Much of the appeal of externalism in the philosophy of mind may stem from
the intuitive appeal of active externalism. Externalists often make analogies
involving external features in coupled systems, and appeal to the arbitrariness of
boundaries between brain and environment. But these intuitions sit uneasily with
the letter of standard externalism. In most of the Putnam/Burge cases, the
immediate environment is irrelevant; only the historical environment counts.
Debate has focused on the question of whether mind must be in the head, but a
more relevant question in assessing these examples might be: is mind in the
present?]]
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:24 pm
By embracing an active externalism, we allow a more natural
explanation of all sorts of actions. One can explain my choice of
words in Scrabble, for example, as the outcome of an extended
cognitive process involving the rearrangement of tiles on my tray.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:25 pm
Of course, one could always try to explain my action in terms of
internal processes and a long series of "inputs" and "actions", but
this explanation would be needlessly complex. If an isomorphic
process were going on in the head, we would feel no urge to
characterize it in this cumbersome way.[*]
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:26 pm
In a very real sense, the
re-arrangement of tiles on the tray is not part of action; it is part of
thought.
*[[Herbert Simon (1981) once suggested that we view internal memory as, in
effect, an external resource upon which "real" inner processes operate. "Search in
memory," he comments, "is not very different from search of the external
environment." Simon's view at least has the virtue of treating internal and external
processing with the parity they deserve, but we suspect that on his view the mind
will shrink too small for most people's tastes. ]]
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:27 pm
The view we advocate here is reflected by a growing body of
research in cognitive science. In areas as diverse as the theory of
situated cognition (Suchman 1987), studies of real-world-robotics
(Beer 1989), dynamical approaches to child development (Thelen
and Smith 1994), and research on the cognitive properties of
collectives of agents (Hutchins 1995), cognition is often taken to
be continuous with processes in the environment.[*]
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:28 pm
Thus, in
seeing cognition as extended one is not merely making a
terminological decision; it makes a significant difference to the
methodology of scientific investigation.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:28 pm
In effect, explanatory
methods that might once have been thought appropriate only for
the analysis of "inner" processes are now being adapted for the
study of the outer, and there is promise that our understanding of
cognition will become richer for it.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 23, 2013, 09:29 pm
Some find this sort of externalism unpalatable. One reason may be
that many identify the cognitive with the conscious, and it seems
far from plausible that consciousness extends outside the head in
these cases. But not every cognitive process, at least on standard
usage, is a conscious process.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 24, 2013, 12:55 am
It is widely accepted that all sorts of
processes beyond the borders of consciousness play a crucial role
in cognitive processing: in the retrieval of memories, linguistic
processes, and skill acquisition, for example.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 24, 2013, 12:56 am
So the mere fact that
external processes are external where consciousness is internal is
no reason to deny that those processes are cognitive.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 24, 2013, 12:58 am
More interestingly, one might argue that what keeps real cognition
processes in the head is the requirement that cognitive processes be
portable. Here, we are moved by a vision of what might be called
the Naked Mind: a package of resources and operations we can
always bring to bear on a cognitive task, regardless of the local
environment.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 24, 2013, 12:58 am
On this view, the trouble with coupled systems is that
they are too easily decoupled. The true cognitive processes are
those that lie at the constant core of the system; anything else is an
add-on extra.
Title: Re: Come on people, lets get our post count up....
Post by: SpawnofGod2 on March 24, 2013, 12:59 am
There is something to this objection. The brain (or brain and body)
comprises a package of basic, portable, cognitive resources that is
of interest in its own right. These resources may incorporate bodily
actions into cognitive processes, as when we use our fingers as
working memory in a tricky calculation, but they will not
encompass the more contingent aspects of our external
environment, such as a pocket calculator.
