Post by: LazyBlaze on August 10, 2013, 03:09 am
How do I know if i've installed it properly? I seem to have done everything but the onion is still flashing!?  Is there a way to check?

I feel like such a noob asking this :( lol

You can download the main tor bundle on the website. Just uninstall the old ones and reinstall the new one. Simple.

lets assume you install it to a folder other than the Tor Browser folder that it installs to automatically ....

Be Sure to delete all instances of the folder it is in....NEVER download it then install it to the same folder as an Overwrite....

I just deleted tor and extracted the files again to save any hassle.  Had to block script globally obviously and stop java again.  I went into Noscript options, embedded and basically forbid everything.  I think this is the best way to go but then again I could be wrong.

Why is it so bad to overwrite??  I might aswell know why so that I'm aware in the future :)

Last thing.  Can you recommend a new e-mail service?  It's so I can generate a new public key on gpg4usb and have a relatively anonymous web address to put down for bitcoins.  :)

Cheers for any help (Y)

I'd recommend tails.  It is a completely different OS booted from a thumb drive.  I am terrible with computers and was able to install it easily with a walkthrough available here on the SR forums, I think it is one of the links on the right side of the main SR home page.  It has its own built in e-mail client and multiple things you can do with PGP(still all over my head at this point).  It can basically be used as an all-inclusive and highly anonymous SR machine if you choose to do that with it.

forgot to add that it also has a built in internet browser that runs through TOR so you're all good on that part too
