This is some truly insightful shit, does it really work?

If customs or what not happen to see this in a x-ray, wouldn't they think it was a bomb or the likes?

My phone uses GSM base stations to navigate when the GPS is unreachable. Maybe GPS-trackers with GSM module could do the same.
So when you have GSM signal, you can send your coordinates with low accuracy. But who cares if you need to know whether it is at final destination or not.

But you should consider smartphone batteries :) long periods without signal can be murderous on battery life! where was the non smartphone variety could well last longer. (basing this off personal experience could be total horse shit)

The only thing that stops me from using cheap Li-Pol batteries on my phone to increase time between charges is their size. But phone in the package and phone in the pocket are not the same - size is not a point when you put it into a box. Good battery costs about 10$ and will at least double the lifetime of device.
