Is it better to open a package a few days after receiving it, or is it safe enough to just open it after receiving it?

I think if it's a controlled delivery you have to sign for it but I could be wrong. If it just pops through your letter box one day there's no liability on your end so you could claim ignorance about what happens to be inside.

As long as you don't open it in front of the mailman then it should be fine.

I know my mail man very well so if it is not him delivering my package I think I would be kind of nervous about opening it so I would wait to open. If it is my normal post man I am just so damn excited I can't wait. I take the package and go straight to the bathroom and open as quickly as possible. If there is anyone who barges in while I'm opening, I will flush the shit ASAP!
Bottom line I don't see a big deal in waiting to open the package unless you have some strange gut feeling that something is "off" I would wait to open.
Some giveaways for me would be:
a) Signing for package
b) Unknown postman
c) extra cars you don't normally see (especially vans) parked relatively close to your residents
d) Mail arrival time is off compared to regular delivery time.
e) There are many more but I'm just drawing a blank ATM. Just think about it and if you feel something isn't right then just do whatever you can to avoid any extra risk
