Title: Post Removal Discrimination?
Post by: ThingsFound on June 23, 2011, 11:56 am
So this guy is selling full dox on people, including banking and other info:

http://ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion/index.php/silkroad/item/3292

I have no problem with that personally, but about a month ago I tried selling the same thing (with less info) and it was taken down fairly quickly.

Now maybe SR just isn't able to regulate the listings as much anymore due to the high influx of sellers, but I still feel somewhat jaded by this.  Here's just another reason why post flagging should be developed, as I mentioned in my other thread:  http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=134.msg538

Thoughts?  I know not many people come here for the Digital Goods section (comparatively), but I still think this is an issue that affects everyone.

In my opinion, people who get their dox stolen for the most part are stupid enough to lose it in the first place, their own fault. Not all the time, but for the most part this is true, Ive picked up boxes of "old" computer parts on curbs of peoples houses before.  When I say old I mean a year at the most because these people have the money to just go out and buy a brand new computer when theirs gets too infected with malware. I find these boxes several times a month, always pick them up to salvage parts from them, make quite a bit of money off them too. However, 9/10 times there are hard drives left in them that are never wiped or even formatted before they are tossed out, a couple of minutes of searching and I usually can find bank records, credit/debit card info, usually tax records, sometimes even SS numbers (They scan them a lot for some reason, never understood why lol). Personally, I have saved every last piece of info I have come across on these peoples computers, however I have yet to ever use it and I doubt I would. It's kind of a moral issue for me, but I keep it around for "Security" purposes, don't exactly know why(Probably the feeling of power and what I could actually do with it).

Anyway, enough of my story, my opinion about selling dox on silk road is that we shouldn't allow this. Its one thing if you're doing this on another black market or stealing the info yourself, but don't sell it. Stealing identities/stealing money is very damaging and can hurt peoples lives in dramatic ways. Drugs on the other hand, the only person who gets harmed (for the most part) is the user if they cant control themselves.  This would be their own fault, not anyone elses. You may see stolen identify as the persons fault for not knowing proper security, but people are ignorant and stupid.  Yes, it may be their fault for not securing themselves better, but it takes another to destroy their life. This obviously can't be stopped but we could at least not allow it here.  I just believe this is a form of destruction, may not kill anybody but it sure can destroy lives. I'm sure not everyone will agree with me, but these are my two pennies.

i don't think this is a good idea either. we should focus on drugs. most governments aren't too concerned about small scale buyers and sellers (most of SR) and even the US would be far more motivated by a listing compromising its citizens security than small scale drug trafficking.

I guess I wasn't clear in my post.

I am not trying to argue for the ethical value in selling lists.  I know full well that it's immoral and will ruin lives, but I don't really care.  However, the same can be said about drugs.  It's all in how you view it.  But that's not the point I am trying to make.

The general disregard for the state of the DG section is frustrating at best.  Combined with the issues raised in my other thread - namely the disorganization, spam posts, cross-posting, etc. - I think this issue should be taken more seriously.

True, the DG section is not the primary focus of this site.  I am overall very pleased to see that the drug trade is healthy.  My question is why a DG section would be introduced in the first place if it would be largely uncared for.  I'm not saying it needs to be brought into the spotlight, but for those of us who do frequent it - as well as the associated sections - it is worth saving.

The following quote is taken straight from the Silkroad sellers guide:

"Restricted items
Please do not list forged documents including fake ids, passports, and counterfeit currency.
Please do not list anything who's purpose is to harm or defraud, such as stolen credit cards, personal info, assassinations, and weapons of mass destruction (chemical/bio weaponry, nukes, and anything used to make them).
Please do not list anything related to pedophelia. "

So selling fake IDs is not allowed, selling personal info is not allowed and just to annoy niggerjim (who is either sick or just taking the piss) no Child Porn.

This is the fine line between harmless dealing, and criminal behavior. Nobody deserves to be ripped off, and I thought that was the main purpose of SR, to get products without getting scammed. Have some kind of dignity..

For fuck's sake, you guys are completely missing my point.

Ignore the fact that I am a terrible person for selling lists.  Ignore the fact that it might ruin lives.  Ignore the fact that I have profited in the past from this.  Focus on the point.

I understand now that lists of personal info should not be sold on SR.  I got that as soon as my posting was removed.  If it hurts the community, then I don't want to see it here.  The point I was trying to make was that a flagging system would benefit the DG section because it is so disorganized, and because a lot of things posted there are harmful to the reputation of SR.

Furthermore, as I said in my last post, it seems a bit odd that there would even be a DG section in the first place if it was to be largely ignored.  And again, I understand that these things can be overlooked because a.)  the DG section is secondary to the drug market, and b.)  managing SR must take a lot of time.  However, that's why threads like this are made:  to get the ideas out there.

Now, if you are going to say something along the lines of "no u evil h4x0r u cant sell stuff like that its bad" then please, for the sake of my mental health, just move on to another thread.  I'd love to argue ethics and morals, but this thread is not for that.

another thing: we don't want to get anonymous or some big gun, hardcase hacker groups on our tail, neither...bad enough we have to deal with civilians, but we start selling shit that brings down the wrath of some of them boys, and they won't play by the same rules as LE.  A lot of sympathy for what we do, keeps good will where it needs to be.

Dont worry, sites gonna get raped before long now that the feds have been tasked with its removal. The admin thinks he can play the moral card with this one but hes gonna learn a hard lesson about discrimination.

Yep...a surefire way to get this site brought down would be for us to start selling goods that really bring down hacker wrath upon us...we like anonymous, and they and other groups show us much slack and even good will...lets keep it that way.
