Title: I need someone to test a THC extraction process.
Post by: BlarghRawr on June 27, 2012, 03:03 am
I just want to know if it is a valid method or not, so I need someone with an ounce of trim/shake available to message me, and I'll give them all the steps to the process so that they can report the results to me.

Additionally, I have an idea for pure-weed joints, so if there is a grower with a some weed that still has all the fan leaves that could contact me for an idea on how to make that, I would like that as well.

u mean pure shake joints?

Just post the method on here, practically every possible method of extraction has been tried so i doubt your idea is original.

Nope. I mean...

I saw a thread a few weeks back with someone asking about joints rolled with fan-leaves and I've been thinking over the best way to actually do that. They'd end up having to be rolled like a cigar I already figured, but the part that was tripping me up was how to get the leaves to stick.

The idea is bud and kief packed somewhat-tight.
Then some undried sugar-leaves sprayed with high-concentration thc-extract + alcohol until those leaves can be pressed into a rolling-paper like shape.
With some iso-extracted oil used to seal it shut.
Then dry the joint at this stage.
Then some big fan leaves would be soaked for a few days, dried somewhat, then have one side dusted in kief.
Wrap that around the pre-joint carefully, with the kief-side on the inside.
Then dry it again
Then a light coating of activated-BHO to make it super-sticky and another layer of kief'd fan leaves, but this time they'd still be soaking wet.
And dry it fully. While doing whatever needed to keep it from unraveling and losing the shape.

A bit excessive I know, and a lot of steps. But it'd probably be a really luxury-item. The kind of thing you show off and save for a special occasion.

PlutoPete makes a good point, so here's that extraction-method.
Is it good? Bad? I need opinions. Or tests.

The materials that you will need for this extraction method are as follows:

1 set of double-boiler pots.
1 mason jar, suitable in size to hold an ounce of weed.
1 Vegetable Squeezer
Roughly 2 pints of 99% isopropyl or other kind of alcohol.
1 strainer.
1 coffee filter.
1 desk-size or larger fan.
1 open window.
1 stove.

The steps are as follows:

Optional Steps:
1) Soak the weed in the mason jar with cold water, taking care to have something to prevent
the weed from floating.
2) Change the water once every 24 hours for at least a week, or as long as desired.
3) Drain the water from the weed and use the vegetable squeezer to get as much of the liquid free from
the plant as possible. This serves a dual purpose by making it easier for the alcohol to soak into the plant.
Required steps:
4) Place the weed in the mason jar and pour in the isopropyl alcohol until the jar is mostly full.
5) Seal the jar completely.
6) Shake once an hour for 24 hours. Soaking for a longer period of time will extract more.
7) Place the coffee filter into the strainer, mostly to stabalize it. Perhaps use two strainers, just to be sure.
8) Carefully pour the alcohol through the coffee filter, to prevent any plant material being in the end product.
9) Once all of the alcohol has been poured out, place the remaining weed in the vegetable squeezer.
10) Squeeze as hard as you can to get absolutely every last drop of alcohol from the weed.
11) Seal whatever container it is that you have drained the alcohol into.
Optional steps:
12) Return the weed, which right now will be almost like brick weed in form, to the jar.
13) Once again add isopropyl alcohol until the jar is nearly full.
14) Repeat the process of shaking every hour. This is to ensure that you get absolutely 100% of the THC.
15) Repeat the process of draining the alcohol. Use a fresh coffee filter.
Required steps:
16) Fill the lower double-boiler pot with water and bring to boil.
17) Notice that all of your extract, as it is right now, is very VERY dark green. This is good.
18) Place the alcohol, which contains all of the thc from the plant, in the upper pot.
19) DO NOT PUT THE UPPER POT ON THE LOWER POT
20) Remove the lower pot from heat and place on a pot-holder or other heat-insulating device.
21) Place the pot near an open window, for the purpose of ventilation.
22) With the fan boiling at the highest setting, place the upper-pot of the double-boiler on top of the lower one.
23) Make sure the fan is blowing the fumes outside. This is for your own safety. Do not leave your stove on.
24) Go do something for two hours or so.
25) Check on the alcohol, check the temp of the water as well. If all the alcohol is evaporated, congrats!
26) If there is still alcohol remaining, separate the pots and repeat the process from step 16.
27) This seems counter-intuitive but fill the upper-pot with water. Place together with lower pot and turn the heat on.
28) The pot on top, which should contain all of the extracted material, will not boil but it will bubble a bit.
29) Allow pots to remain on heat for a long period of time. The heat will cause the thc to decarb, thus making it active and potent.
30) All of the water-soluable chemicals within the extract will stay with the water. THC, however, is not water-soluable.
31) After several hours have passed, remove the pots from heat.
32) Pour the contents of the TOP pot, which contains the extract and water, into a plastic container.
33) Allow to cool at room-temp for several hours, then place in refridgerator.
34) Allow to cool once again for several hours, then place in freezer.
35) Because thc is not water-soluable, it will have already either floated to the top, or sunk to the bottom.
36) Allow to cool for several hours again, until the water is frozen solid. You should now have extremely pure THC stuck to ice.

The entire process is based on conjecture and built around the properties of the cannabinoids.
But honestly, making extracts is not my talent, that's why I need outside information.
