Title: Conflicting information wiki / buyers guide
Post by: joe on November 17, 2011, 10:37 pm
I'm pretty new, so forgive my ignorance and/or stupidity if appicable.

I'm confused: in the buyer's guid right on the silkroad page http://ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion/index.php/silkroad/buyers_guide I read:

Quote from: silkroad buyer's guide
Receiving address
From the moment you submit your order, to the moment it is displayed to your vendor, the information is fully encrypted and totally unreadable.

Methinks: very nice, that's the way it should be!

Then I find on the wiki page http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/wiki/index.php/Scammed this gem:

Quote from: silkroad wiki
When placing an order always use PGP to encrypt your address.

What the hell? I understood the buyer's guide in the way that this would be done automatically? Why doesn't it state that on the order page right at the address entry field with a huge exclamation mark: "Dont' enter address plaintext, encrypt first!"

I surely hope the wiki is wrong or misleading on this point.

Can someone please cear this up for me?

It's already encrypted by SR when you submit an order, but like it says in the buyer's guide, if you don't even want SR to be able to see your messages, it's suggested you PGP encrypt it too.

Ok, I see. Thanks a lot for clearing this up!

This should probably be explained more clearly in the wiki.
