Interesting. Right before I posted I was able to get a payment slip and everything with no problem. Now Cloudfare has kicked in again. ???

Bitinstant should move their servers to the DarkNet.
-
I seriously doubt this. But I guess time will tell :O

There is nothing illegal about buying bitcoins. There is nothing illegal about transferring bitcoins from one wallet to another. There is nothing illegal about buying things through the mail with bitcoins. As long as you're being smart it shouldn't matter anyway.

i was just going to come in here and warn everyone that i had a bad feeling about bitinstant today. i was able to log on and it now is regulated througth the OFAC. i took this right from the OFAC website
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals against targeted foreign countries and regimes, terrorists, and international narcotics traffickers along with other threats to the national security, foreign policy or economy of the United States. OFAC acts under Presidential national emergency powers, as well as authority granted by specific legislation, to impose controls on transactions and freeze assets under US jurisdiction. Many of the sanctions are based on United Nations and other international mandates, are multilateral in scope, and involve close cooperation with allied governments.
The website has been acting very strange indeed. im not going to use if for a while

Crazy stuff. It makes sense they would target how we get BTC.

Can't get to Bitinstant using Tor - at least I can't ...
-
Agree eclipsin
You take down 1 of these big exchanges, your gonna do a ton of damage to the buyer volume on SR.

Can't get to Bitinstant using Tor - at least I can't ...
I get an Ip banned message when I try to access bitinstant via tor. Via clearnet it works fine...not sure what to think, but I'll wait until there is some actually news reports until I start to get too worried.
-
bitinstant got ddos'd and now they are using cloudfront to protect themselves which is clearly sensitive to tor, as using tor funnels everyone through just a few IPs so those IPs look like part of the DDOS.
If I had to guess I'd say that whomever DDOS'd bitinstant is now creating accounts here and making shit up. The Feds don't raid an office and carry off computers while leaving the domain untouched - which it is. Even if the servers were safe from a raid, the DNS provider would hand over the keys in a heartbeat.
So the OP is probably connected with the DDOS attack.

Ya, that was the impression I got as well. +1 for having a reasonable head

Only replying to this troll thread since it's already at the top...
OP has 2 post count, both in this thread, and named ReliableSource. Wow. C'mon guys, you know better than to listen to a jack-off DEA/LE troll account. Holy shitballs, the location of the main office is right on the website. You brought nothing of value or proof to support this. Fuck off.
There is a plethora of options for obtaining BTC. Newsflash: SilkRoad and BitCoins have been around for a lot longer than BitInstant. Yes, BitInstant is by far my preferred method, but if it doesn't come back, or completely loses anonymity, a dozen replacements will spring up in no time.
Since I don't feel like posting on the several different ZOMG BITINSTANT IS DEAD/RAIDED/CAN'T USE WITHOUT MY REAL NAME BAWWWW threads, I'll also include this. The OFAC compliance that they mentioned is for BTC -> e-mail options. Use someone's name/b-date that you know or can pull from FaceBook easily and find a place that doesn't ID for MoneyGram payments. OR go with MtGox coupons/USD since they don't require info unless you fuck up and try to access on Tor.
Or, holy shit, here's a crazy thought- Take a fuckin' risk and use your real name. The DEA/LE can have that .001% chance increase of knowing my real name when I legally purchase my BTCs. The rest of the puzzle is so ridiculously complex they wouldn't even waste their time on a small-time cannabis buyer, even knowing that information. They have limited resources and their prime mission is to go for the highest on the chain, the guys that are living the fattest, as they say.
And sidenote- Tor isn't required for BitInstant and their payment processor sites. The Tor network doesn't need the extra load of bandwidth for non-sensitive activity like that. Use a VPN for accessing clearnet privately if you're that worried about it.

Also, no need to worry about seeing the CloudFlare name on Bitinstant's website. CloudFlare is a security system for servers and they were hired by Bitinstant to defend against Denial of Service attacks. You can read about CloudFlare here: http://blog.cloudflare.com/65gbps-ddos-no-problem

apologies for bumping the troll post but I got a question guys.
So I usually use the bank deposit Bitinstant method. However its all screwed up with the ddos, so I'm going with the moneygram option. I was able to print out my receipt to pay the store to fund my account, but now I can't access the bitinstant site again. Anyone know if its safe to go ahead and pay the money?

You have a better chance with it 'going through' with MoneyGram over bank deposit IMO... MoneyGram will verify that the ZipZap invoice is actually made based on the transaction number and deny it if it doesn't exist. I definitely wouldn't chance a bank deposit even if it was available... hmm... I personally wouldn't try a MoneyGram but I don't think the payment will be lost forever. Just possibly delayed if you have to call/e-mail to have it verified manually. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
I've only done 2 MGs compared to like 60+ bank deposits though.. but I far prefer MG now. MtGox is literally funded the -same minute- I get the receipt for paying MG.
-
100% not true. Look on the bitcointalk forums and the Bitinstant CEO says that its just a DDOS attack. If you go through his post he says that they have been getting attacked recently.
Nothing to worry about. Damn!

I am new to SR, and went to purchase my first bitcoins tonight through Bitinstant. I was having some problems at first (not much of a "techie") but I finally got a payment slip ready. I chose the cash deposit at a CVS, to have the BTC deposited in my Blockchain wallet. But I haven't gotten my BTC or a confirmation or anything. Zipzap does have a record of my payment on their account history page. Am I screwed. This news about Bitinstant getting raided has def got me nervous. Does anyone have any advice on how to track down where my payment went, or how to get it back? Also, where would be the best place for me to try to buy some BTC, again?
Sorry for all the questions, like I said I'm new to this. I was really excited about putting my first order in, but I hope to interact with some of you in the future when my situation gets cleared up. Peace
