Title: non-opoid pain reliever
Post by: tinytim on February 11, 2012, 04:47 am
Hi,

Is there a type of pain reliever that is not based on opioids or marajuana?

I have a friend that came over in severe pain today and I had nothing to offer her because she is allergic to opioids.

thanks,

DXM, which is dextromethorphan. It's found in cough syrup. Have her take a bit over the recommended dosage on the bottle, but make sure that DXM is the only active ingredient.

DXM is similar to ketamine and PCP. It acts as a "dissociative." To put it simply, it disconnects the signals from your brain from your body. This is why it's used as a cough suppressant, because your brain doesn't get those signals that you need to cough.  In my opinion, it works better as a pain reliever than opioids.

Thanks a ton.  I have some ketamine around here, would a very small dose do the same?

I also have some MXE here.  Same question - would any disassociative work, or is DXM special?

Thanks!

Both ketamine and methoxetamine work as pain relievers to an extent.

Either one would work great, even better than DXM. I just named DXM because I assumed you wouldn't have ketamine or MXE.

Thanks a ton steely, we're going to try a light dose (like 20% of what it would take to put her in the k-hole) next time she is in serious pain.
