Title: DuckDuckGo hidden service
Post by: seaitch on August 20, 2013, 12:47 pm
Hey there. I thought I'd make my first post something helpful.

Those of you who use DuckDuckGo as your search engine (recommended; it basically runs Google searches for you, like Scroogle used to do) will be happy to know that they run their own hidden service <http://3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion/>. There are other Google search alternatives (e.g., Startpage), but I prefer DuckDuckGo.

To add it to your browser's search box, visit the Mycroft Project <http://mycroftproject.com/search-engines.html?name=duckduckgo>. Make a note of that domain, since you'll have to re-add it after each Tor Bundle update. I recommend "DuckDuckGo SSL lite (no filter, TOR)" (near the bottom). If you don't want to add an exception for the SSL, then choose the non-SSL one directly above. "Lite" means a lightweight (i.e., slightly faster) page; "no filter" means what it says: the results of your depraved searches will not be filtered.

Note: You'll have to temporarily allow JavaScript on the Mycroft page to add search engines.

Stay safe!
