I'm trying to get started into bitcoin mining but am having trouble with gui miner.
everything has gone great so far, made an account to use slush's pool and everything
but once i go to start the process and choose what device use it says that there is no open cl devices.
do i need any specific hardware to attach to my computer to get it to work? ?

Is this still profitable? I always hear it's way too expensive now.

Yes it is too expensive, it's basically an if you're in it already continue but don't start up now type of game.
OP OpenCL is for AMD GPUs only. If you have NVIDIA or anythin else then you can't use OpenCL to mine.

OpenCL is an open platform. Nvidia and AMD GPUs both support opencl.
Mining bitcoin is almost pointless without an ASIC mining device now. Best to mine litecoins if you have GPUs, or coin hop it you want to be one of 'those guys'.

It's not as profitable as it once was.
I would imagine it to be very difficult to overcome the power consumption charge, unless you're in a situation with free electricity.

you could always mine altcoins and trade them for btc
you can't mine effectively on any laptop really due to heat issues, let alone a Dell.
You need a good Radeon graphics card to get any noticeable amount of coins
