Title: Looking Ahead to Bitcoin 0.9?
Post by: sativanist on July 27, 2013, 06:32 pm
So I'm reading an article on The Daily Dot talking about the changes coming to btc.

Evidently there is a Bitcoin version 0.9 in the works "to bring it more in line with US law".

Anonymous btc activists stated that Bitcoin "could develop into a system that is a complete perversion of the original vision."

They are concerned with the version 0.9 changes, such as a Bitcoin Payment Messages system. Under this system, payments would be completed using digital certificates owned by the merchants. These certificates would hold customer and merchant metadata linked to specific transactions. The speculation is that the merchants will begin issuing receipts.

An article on Coin Desk goes on to say that this means there would no longer be a different private key for each transaction. The same key would be used multiple times with different customers "and know which customer sent the money."   :o

No date is given for when this might happen, but is in the pipeline right now and developers are working on it, according to the Bitcoin Foundation blog.

As a result of these changes, a recently published white paper has proposed  "Bitcoin 2", a new cryptocurrency system that would restore the anonymity of the original Bitcoin.

People here should start planning now, in order to stay one step ahead of changes coming in version 0.9.

Fuck that.  If they ever tried that then you best believe that we'd fork the motherfucking blockchain. 8)
