I hear logging onto Mt.gox on TOR is a bad idea. (If anyone could say why that'd be nice)
But how do you do it without and remain anonymous, surely if you log on and set up a fake account then deposit your cash then you're sweet other than the fact that you've got that creation of an account on your normal web use history?
Thanks guys.

First, why are you using Mt. Gox at all? This exchange has a history of locking accounts that use tainted coins. Since the definition of tainted is whatever they want (for example, are coins transferred from SR tainted?) I don't think Mt. Gox is a good place to do business.
Tor exit nodes are (mostly) public knowledge. Mt. Gox notes when an account is accessed from a Tor exit node. Again, the definition of tainted is whatever they want. So this means accounts accessed from Tor could be locked at any time. (Most likely right after you transferred in a large amount.)
You say, "deposit your cash." There may be ways to buy coins at Mt. Gox anonymously (there didn't seem to be the last time I went there quite some time ago) but, again, why would you? Try bitfloor or bitinstant, both of those places offer actual anonymous ways to get coin.

I should probably have mentioned that I need to do this from the UK using GBP, I imagine neither of those methods are viable to me in that situation.

DO NOT access your mt gox account via tor, or it will be locked.
You must use a clearnet IP or a VPN. I'd suggest going somewhere populated and using an open/public wifi outside of camera range. Just make sure you change your wireless card's MAC address prior to connecting, and then back again when you're done.
