There are a variety of different btc clients available offline or otherwise. Personally I've come to use Blockchain primarily, it's an online client accessible via tor and there's no verification. Plus you can clear transactions and addresses or create anonymous addresses for single use.

Blockchain redirected me to Bitstamp. So I'm assuming I need to buy bitcoin from bitstamp and use blockchain as a wallet. Is that correct?

You don't have to use any specific service to get the bitcoins. You can use ANY BTC service witth ANY wallet. They are not one in the same.

You can buy BTC from anywhere and deposit into blockchain(wallet service), since bitinstant closed its been harder to get coins quickly/anon but a lot of people have success with localbitcoins.com. I used bitstamp once a while back but it seemed kind of expensive and I had to connect an email to my account, there's always SR vendors for direct transfer but scamming is always a big risk there.
