Title: How to go from Newbie to Hero
Post by: CharlieHorse on May 18, 2012, 08:34 pm
Hi I'm new here and have read most of the general how-to guides and such but have yet to find any info detailing the process by which one can go from being classified on the forums as a Newbie to Jr. Member, Full Member, etc.

I'm wondering what criteria you guys use to advance members on the forum. What can I do to increase my rank?

its pure post counts. I dont know the specific amounts, hero is 500 posts I think.  Full might be after 100 and jr after 50.

Why is it important to you to increase your rank?

Er, I imagine it's based on number of posts. Most forum software is configured that way by default.

*Newbie high five*

And then there's the Karma system. You have to have 100 posts before you can dole out Karma. Be a good son and only dole out + Karma. But if you must dole out negative karma, be a man and let the person know it was you and why. A simple post in the thread that rubbed you the wrong way will suffice to explain why you left negative karma.

In spite of all that, have fun. :) And read, read, read. I wouldn't want you to fall prey to a finalize early scam.

I just want to emphasize two points here. Negative karma should be reserved till it's deserved, and I certainly know I'd appreciate knowing why anyone dealt me some.

So far I have my suspicions but once I have more posts strewn about it'll be harder to tell.

+ Respect (but maybe not karma) to those who give reason for negative karma, sicne it helps avoid the reason for the NK in the future.

It's not about how much you post it's about what you have to say. Karma is a much more accurate reflection of your personality than your post count. Having a high post count just means you have a lot to say, how much +/- Karma indicates if what you have to say is useful and contributes positively or whether you are regarded as a bullshitter or an antisocial ass-hat.

Hope this helps. :)

From what I've seen, his stats say he's generally awesome to the point of trollies being jealous. [/blatant sucking up]

And of course no one can always please everyone.

My stats say that while I may upset a few people by telling it how it is it would seem that more people agree with my outlook than don't and because I take a joy in beating down trolls (which I have a suspicion you maybe) I get bad karma from them and from the people I may be blunt to on occasion.

I lot of times, negative karma comes from cowards who happen to be high at the time so their reading comprehension skills are impaired. Other times it comes from vendor groupies who just finished licking the sweat off their vendor's nut sack when you come along and point out a potential issue with the vendor. Likely, some of those people who left - karma probably wish they could take it back after realizing that you were warning them not to trust they vendor and they could have saved some coin and grief.

Since obvious trolls are... well obvious, the negative karma doesn't really serve much purpose.

I got negged two more times!! Can someone give me some positives to balance this out.... That's really not cool. Just for asking a question about how the forum worked, I got -4 Karmas.
Think about it...

Does it really matter? I am sure your karma will even out when you have been on this forums a while :) I understand it is annoying, but some people i guess just like to give negative karma not much that can be done about that.

As NorE said, it'll balance out. I advise against directly asking for PK to balance the NK, as that will certainly compel more people to give you NK instead.
