Title: trouble decrypting a message
Post by: kisskissbangbang on January 09, 2012, 01:56 pm
i'm trying to use gpa on windows to decrpyt a pgp message. i copy the message to the clipboard, click decrypt and get an error saying "clipboard contained no valid encrypted data"  ??? if i use the file manager i get same error "the file 'file' contained no valid encrypted data". i have decrypted messages previously no worries.

i just spent about an hour trying to install gpa on ubuntu natty with no luck, i guess i could try to learn to do it using the terminal but i'm pretty high right now so don't want to cause mental anguish   :-[

anyone know whats up?

thanks

Sometimes you just have to remove a blank line or spaces
Here's some common problems I found with FireGPG that gives the syntax error 'No valid encrypted data'

example:

-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----
Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux)

tJWEqOqMZ5y5VSxMi9b+P9bacUi81eLyynZNEyTjvDHQl4ZqZkNIDyAskexc/wfS

ib5ATdxf6nMWZMcSlmbjXwstNJAoXgA=
=Dv/C
-----END PGP MESSAGE-----

Notice newline after AoXgA= and then =Dv/C
Edit it to this and try to decrypt:

Code: [Select]
-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----
Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux)

ib5ATdxf6nMWZMcSlmbjXwstNJAoXgA==Dv/C
-----END PGP MESSAGE-----

Sometimes there are also spaces in between lines like

Code: [Select]
- - - - BEGIN PGP MESSAGE - - - -
Remove spaces to -----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----
