Title: Carbamazepine compatibility
Post by: SojaSojaSoja on July 29, 2012, 01:54 pm
Hi,

the search function didn't give me any useful information on this topic, so here's my issue:

I have to take a daily dose of carbamazepine (800mg) because of an health issue (not related with abuse of any drugs).
So my question is, does anybody on SR also take carbamazepine or knows something about interactions with common drugs?

Regards!

It will depend on what you are taking the Carbamazepine for, as well as what "common drugs" you are talking about.

There are many potential interactions between medications that may be significant/life threatening or insignificant/minor.

Ok, i take the medication against the symptoms of "paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia" which shouldn't tell you anything as it's a  relatively rare disorder. Symptoms are random abnormal movements.

I'm talking about weed, LSD, Shrooms ans mdma  :)

Interesting disorder, Soja.

There aren't any known/reported interactions between MDMA and Carbamazepine. However, MDMA can lower seizure threshold, so if you're prone to seizures, it may not be a good idea. Also, Carbamazepine, mescaline, and LSD all cause direct 5HT receptor stimulation, while MDMA causes rapid 5HT release from vesicles. Carbamazepine and MDMA also cause decreased 5HT reuptake. So you may be putting yourself at higher risk for serotonin syndrome.

Cannabis may increase the effect of the Carbamazepine by affecting the hepatic/intestinal enzyme CYP3A4 metabolism. But other than that, nothing too serious.

I hope this helps,

Wow thank you sdesu for the information!  ;D

If your interested; alcohol and LSD kill the symptoms i have in a sober state. Normally certain situations or movements trigger seizures. This disappears completely on LSD and alcohol.
In contrast cannabis intensifies the symptoms.

I'll definitely get more information on the serotonin syndrome, sounds serious from what i read in a quick google search.

Thank you again
