Just wondering if it would be a good idea to write the name of the previous tenant on the address as we used to get the odd letter addressed to her in our mail ? thanks in advance.

You can, but you risk the package not getting delivered.

yeah i had a friend who did that, come to find out the previous tenant went to the post office and had all the old mail forwarded to her new address. He had a ball of blow delivered in their name, got sent to their new address and he got in a world of shit for it.

my suggestion would be not to do that. i tried it and they attempted to forward it to tenants new address. luckily however the post office couldnt deliver there for whatever reason and they delivered it at my address... on a side note, i dont think its really fair to vendors as it drastically increases the risk you wont get the package (i hadnt really been explained this idea when i did it). just my 2 cents

I guess it depends on a few variables.
* How long has the last tenant been gone? In my country redirection orders are normally active for 3, 6, or 12 month periods. After the redirection expires all the "wrongly" addressed mail just starts being delivered again. I've been pleasantly surprised at how much mail still arrives for the previous tenants. I believe some of these tenants must have been gone at least 5 or 6 years.
* Run a test. Send yourself some mail (eg: Xmas card, birthday card) with the name you plan to use and see what happens. If it were to get redirected at least there won't be any suspicion on the part of the recipient. You really don't wont drugs in that envelope as most people would probably take it straight to the police.
* You may even find that depending on the actual postman he may know the previous tenants by name and may not deliver the package but rather return it to the sender. As I'm pretty sure most vendor's don't put their real return address on the package then this will probably seem suspicious.
Most current thinking suggests either using your real name (eg: Jonathon Smith) or a slight variation (eg: J. Smith, J. Smythe, John Smit). Whether this slight "typo's" would mean anything at all in court is anyone's guess but at least there is some form of deniability.

I have done this before, and even ordered services/entered into contracts using the ex-tenants name (very naughty I know, but I couldn't get credit..I later transferred it to my own name).. I don't see a problem doing this at all, the postman or courier isn't going to question you or stop delivery..they will just deliver and ask you to sign whatever name you put on it...even if you call yourself Lord something! I'm speaking from UK prospective tho might be different in other countries.

Still get junk mail from previous tenants. Was going to recommend it, but did not realize that they could randomly have their mail forward to a new address and you'd be out of $$ and product. Just use real name and anxiously wait :P

I would NOT RECOMMEND using a previous tenants name...at least if you want your pkg delivered. Sure it might come through.....but why risk it??? Use a legitimate name for the address you are using. If you can't get mail delivered to you and/or you don't have another safe address to use....might want to reconsider ordering DRUGS in the mail at all.

You illegally used your previous tenant's credit but don't see anything wrong with that.
As stated above, it's possible the previous tenant could be contacted about or forwarded the package. Your area might be lazy with the postal but other countries and specific areas within them have different very different postal service. I've watched a documentary on the UK service though, I'm sorry, I hope it's improved at least some places since this was made (2005-2007ish?)

I'm at a PO Box, personally, and I get mail from at least 10 different previous tenants at this point. The minimum length of time for a box is 3 months, so the oldest one is at least 2.5 years since given up my address. Most people get longer rentals, so it's likely longer than that. I feel like I could get away with it, but I also feel safer in the first place just sticking to my real name.

Actually she was a very cool person that died in a car wreck after she moved out. I never got a chance to smoke her out, she thought I was an angry person that hated her until we got a chance to hang out a few weeks before she left... and died. :/

I'm in the US and I get mail delivered here for my previous tenants and they've been gone over 6 years (so any forwarding info is long expired), as well as a handyman who works for me and who has used my address for packages, so I've been using that name and have had 4 successful deliveries so far. I live in a large-ish town so there are too many names/addresses for the PO to keep track of. I think as long as there is a correct address they will attempt delivery there and leave it up to the tenant to "Return to Sender" if it's incorrect.
That being said, the consensus here seems to be to use either your real name or a spelling variation of it.
I wonder what would happen though if you used a previous tenant's name and added "or Current Resident" as if it were some typical commercial mail.

I use a previous tenant as I've been getting their mail constantly ever since I moved here over 7 months ago. At first it was something every day, but now it's maybe one or two things a week (including some credit card statements, idiots). Because of that though, I'm very confident in using their name.
Somtimes I get a bit paranoid that the postie might wonder why an old tenant is getting A5 packages from overseas, but generally I think they're too rushed to care or even notice.

UPDATE: I just received 2 packages yesterday. One was addressed to the wife's name of the former owner which is the 5th successful delivery to that name (coincidentally, a sample magazine issue used for promotion and addressed to the husband was delivered, too) and the other was addressed to: My Name (slightly misspelled) or Current Resident.

Testing it out first is always a good idea, but I still wouldn't recommend the practice in the first place.

If the vendor knew you were addressing it incorrectly, and it looked like a business advertisement, the vendor could always put "or current resident".
Just make sure the "to" person isn't obnoxious, such as, oh I don't know, Eleanor Rigby.
