I bought a scale from a vendor. It's malfunctioning. It's from a very well respected vendor who definitely has worked with me in an issue with my past order. I offered to return it since there's nothing illegal about a scale and the vendor doesn't even sell anything illegal. He gave me the address to return it to for a refund. I live in USA and he lives in UK. Is this safe? How should I go about returning it?
-
Neither of you have done anything wrong so no big deal. Assuming its small enough just drop it in a bubble mailer and send it on its way.
-
How can I anonymously track it?
-
maybe track it in a coffeeshop or somewhere public with wifi..
which vendor only sells legal things?
-
Why does it need to be anon? Just a scale right?

Lol. No, I mean anonymously ship it with tracking.
I don't want to say any names right now. I hope you understand.

Yeah. I guess it's just the thought of it, you know? Plus, I'm probably technically "supporting a criminal organization" or "evading taxes" or some bullshit.

Though quite rare, there are still Post Offices that don't have cameras. Usually small towns. If you find one just use a fake return address?
-
Yeah, I was planning on a fake return address so I'll definitely be doing that

What's the problem with normal shipping? Tracking is obviously not such a bad idea, but as you say if it's just some scales there's nothing illegal or that can link you to your account on here.

Why does the vendor want a broken scale returned? ???
-
I get the whole supporting a criminal orginization thing. But even if the package is opened no one is going to think "Ha must be silk fuckin road!" when they see the scale. Unless you already being investigated/followed. In which case your fucked anyway. Just go mail it and put a church address as the return. Your overthinkin this one way too much.

Bad vendor, even if he doesnt sell anything illegal he can still get charged for supporting a illegal organization. Bad move on his part taking anything back

As far as I'm aware, I know of many people that are well known on the clearnet (Vendor 'Only' coming to mind) that sell their items on sr legally.
It's just a marketplace, you are allowed to sell bitcoin or bitcoin services and anything and, although maybe a bit suspicious if you have nothing to do with drugs or such I'm pretty sure that it's legal. (Although correct me if I'm wrong)

100% wrong. They may not come after you, but, you are paying fees to a criminal organization in order to sell your wares and avoid any taxes on your items. It is illegal to sell or buy anything from silk road. From my attorney's mouth.

Ah right, thanks for correcting me.
But for OP, I doubt that anything will happen from some scales, it should be fine to send them.

I'm thinking its so he knows I'm not trying to scam him or anything. He's said himself that he's already gotten several complaints with these scales though.

My decision is to go through with the return, tracking included. It seems the vendor and I have technically already committed a crime or two so whatever. I really appreciate the responses so +1 to all posters.

To keep your identity a secret, sending it anonymously seems very smart. People who don't get that make me nervous.
Use a real return address. If you mail it from a postal counter, you may be on video and they can ask you if the return address is you.
I don't really think that's a problem in your situation. Just be aware of the issues. To avoid the counter, keep it under 13 OZs, use stamps, a tracking label and drop it in a "blue box". They have been giving out the tracking labels more easily I think recently. Shipping forum is full of info about tracking label issues.

Can I use a residential return address from my area that isn't mine without my real name?
-
Yes, put "resident" for the name. Sometimes I put a local church address as a return. The post office cant prove your not a member there.

Sorry to be slow checking back here. Any real address will do. I think the name should match the address in case some database is checked. Probably not likely to be an issue though. Unless you want to be able to recieve it back if it get's "returned to sender", any address from a location near the post office you mail from should work. I would not choose a hi profile address like a church in case the mailman happens to know the folks at the church and how they mail things. If there is a question about your package, I don't think you want it to be too tempting/easy for USPS to contact the sender about it.

Better late than never. Shit, I didn't think about matching the name to the address correctly if it gets checked in a database. I used a "random" name (a guy who fucked me over for a small amount of money two years ago that I haven't seen in a year) and for the address, I literally looked at a map and chose a random address that wasn't too far from the post office to be weird. I ended up not getting tracking though :-\ Shipping was like $15 as is so I really hope it makes it there.
