Title: reddit silkroad post
Post by: thrillkillMELT on March 28, 2013, 12:12 am
I ave read a news article on Sallon or Dailly Dot about a poster on Reddit named paidgovernmentshill who claims to ave discovered the actual ip adress of the Silk Road server. Is this just bullocks or just bullshit? Any thoughts?

It is both bollocks AND bullshit. :P

He claims to have gotten the webserver to reveal its own public IP address, but the way tor hidden services are setup, webservers don't actually know their own public IP address. DPR would have to have committed a fuckup of truly epic proportions for this to have actually occurred.

More likely: The reddit poster is a script kiddie (or even an actual penetration tester who merely misunderstands how tor works) who got a peek up the server's skirt and misunderstood what they saw.

More likely still: It's a complete fabrication.

It is. He admitted as much today. Not like it wasn't obvious, though.
