Title: Lets say I want to become a chemist
Post by: Splint on February 04, 2013, 04:30 am
What books should I start with and where might one begin looking for the ingredients required?

If you don't know where to start you're in for a hell of a job.
That said, I can recommend:

Amphetamine Synthesis - Otto Snow
Uncle Fester - Secrets of Methamphetamine Manufacture (a bit ghetto)
PiHKAL as mentioned already
Sources - Strike

In addition to the ones already mentioned above, I have to recommend 'Total Synthesis 2' by Strike. In my opinion it's the best narcotic-chemistry for non-chemists. Just start off small and work your way up, things initially seem really complicated but if you work hard you'll soon get the hang of it :)

I would recommend acing high school chemistry first before enrolling in a university level science degree.

There will be more than one book involved.

I've finished general chemistry 2 and organic chemistry 1 last year, so I hope that gives me a decent foundation to start with.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
