Title: Please Help!! Newbie teething problems! lol
Post by: neo67 on June 11, 2013, 09:41 pm
Hi Guys,

Right i am very new to all of this but very interested in the whole concept and Silk Road.

However, i am stuck at the second hurdle i guess, i can not figure out for the life of me how to get any bitcoins into my SR wallet!

I am from the UK and want to deposit a total of around 30 pounds via bank  transfer. Has anyone got any recommendations in terms of third party exchangers?
Is it best to use Tor browser when visiting bitcoins exchangers, i was blocked (i think) by one vendor as i was using Tor browser.

Is it best to give false details like email, name etc, to bitcoin vendors? to play it safe?

Any help is much welcomed, i REALLY NEED your help guys,

Ok thank you very much.

If you open TOR Vidalia Control Panel, and "Use New Identity" until your IP shows up as an 'actual' IP in a country that can freely access those sites... then you most certainly can and should use TOR for those. Like BitInstant, etc. Don't visit Mt.Gox through TOR, in-fact, don't use Mt.Gox PERIOD.

I'm not sure either on what the UK's banking situation is like versus the US, but you should look up the individual sites you wish to use on here, or somewhere else to see if they're TOR-friendly or not, before ultimately making any decision on which browser to use. When TOR can be used, TOR should be used. That's my MOTO.  ;D

from the research I've done, and you'll see it as you read through that site i linked there is nothing illegal about buying bitcoins so no need for tor while doing that. imo.

ARGHHH disaster! well almost lol the link you sent me attisal suggests  bitInstant to get bitcoins, HOWEVER, they only allow people from certain countries to buy bitcoins like US, Ukraine etc.

Any other suggestions please would be very helpful.

Thank you once again.

True. But Bitcoins aren't as "Totally untraceable" if you're buying them with ID, and then using them to buy drugs, selling those drugs, and then having a surplus of cash. Unless you can prove you earned that money from the Bitcoins, and not from drug-dealing... you could be piling up evidence on yourself.

So, yeah, I agree. But it also comes down to where those bitcoins are going, and who is using them for what. It's better to be safe and silly than wise and sorry.  ;D

as I said I'm US based so Bitinstant worked for me like a charm. a quick google search served up 4 or 5 options for the UK here are links for 3. do your research before you decide on one.

So very true. no id required when i made my trans. filled out the paper. company name, city state of company recieve code and account. the paper wants your name and address but like i said no one asked for ID so I didnt input real name or address.

done at wal-mart by the way. i hear most other places are sticklers for the ID check.

BitInstant has a 10k/yr limit before THEY ask you for ID. It may have been lowered - been a minute since I used them. But, if you access through TOR, you can create unique IPs for each deposit. Thus taking said limitations away. Probably the main reason I used to use TOR w/ BitInstant deposit set-ups. :)

On another note, sometimes CVS employees cop an attitude and ask for ID. You just have to be like... "Since when do you need ID to pay a bill?" and they usually push it through. I know people who have had issues tho. :P

I know this wasn't directed at me. I've been here since the beginning though...

You can sort listings by Vendor Rating, Most Popular, or Newest...

Newest - pulls up the latest most recently listed items by ALL vendors in that category.
Rating - pulls up the vendors by rating, ascending from 100...
Most Popular - pulls up the items that have been selling the most.

It's up to you, really, but I always sort by newest... cause I know a lot of the vendors in the categories I'm looking through.

For someone NEW, I'd say... either Rating, or Most Pop. :P

I am fairly new to using SR. did a good amount of reasearch before purchasing anything. Vendor reviews on the SR sub reddit and in the rumor mill portion of the forums will help you sift through what is good and who might be scamming people.

What if you just buy bitcoins, buy drugs, and then use them? Is there still an issue with buying them with an ID?

Thought I'd just chip in I'm in the UK too local bitcoins was very straight forward I used bitbargain before that but last time I tried to use them they asked for proof of my identity, could just be cause I forgot my password at first though.  I don't worry too much about using tor for buying btc but I'm still in early days yet maybe if I'm spending a lot that will change.
as for quality not been here long but what I had was spot on.
