Title: Regarding prepared IV-ready solutions
Post by: gitlow on July 25, 2013, 01:13 pm
I'm not pointing any fingers here, and I want to avoid even appearing to call anyone out by name. This post is a general safety concern. Anyone selling such products should not get defensive about it. OK then.

Any opioid users will have seen the IV-ready solutions for sale on Silk Road. These concern me greatly. From a harm-reduction standpoint, they seem like a great idea. My concern is regarding potential malicious purposes. What's to stop someone from selling such product tainted with an infectious disease?

I'd like to hear from those who know something (real science based knowledge, not folk wisdom) about e.g. survivability of various pathogens in transit, vulnerability to heat, etc.

I can't answer your question directly, but a few hours pent on google will certainly turn up loads of scientific info.

Just go with a tried and true vendor like MaddHatter (Spelling might be wrong on that)

Any pathogens, bacteria, viruses, etc. shouldn't be a problem in transit, IF the dealer seals and uses safety precautions with his product. However I know nothing about temperature side effects.

I'm referring to the possibility of the preparer infecting the product before it was sealed.

If the compound in question was known to resist decomposition at 121c I would be autoclaving it for 60 minutes at 15 psi in a stove top pressure cooker before use. That will destroy all pathogens.
