I've been custom distilling various alcohols for the last 20 years with some bleeding edge distillation equipment. This means my ethanol is incredibly pure with extremely few of the headache inducing incidentals found in commercial grade products. This is definitely not backwoods production.
I was thinking of a couple different lines;
While I can technically do 100% pure ethanol in my vacuum still it would have to ship in vacuum to stay that that pure (it sucks in water once exposed to air). Instead I was thinking the standard 96.5% purity would be fine.
The other thing I do is grain based triple distilled moonshine. I'd set it at 80% ABV.
Liquids are a hassle to ship price wise, but Canadian jurisdictions and most US jurisdictions don't have this level of product available and the few that do allow sales of 96.5% I wouldn't put it in my car never mind drink it. The taxation issues on alcohol especially in Canada would make it cheaper to buy superior product from me than the liquor store.
I also do custom peated whiskeys (scotch) and so forth, but that's another jump above.
Is there interest in this kind of thing or is it all about the drugs? Just curious but definitely serious.

I'd definitely be interested if you ship internationally. I am curious to how you will ship it to avoid breakages or the eyes of customs though?

There were some kids in here looking for booze that would definitely buy from you. I am not much a fan of booze but I'm sure you could make some money here if you figure out a reliable method to deliver your stuff intact. It sounds good to hear you describe it. I would be down for some Bushmill's style Irish whiskey if you ever make that. It is one of the few hard liquors that I actually enjoy.

I would be interested in purchasing a bit... list!

One problem, as a dangerous good, it can't be air freighted. Surface shipping only.

Can you do other items such as methanol?

Thanks for the thoughts and feedback, this is pretty much along the same lines as I was thinking re: potential problems and so on.
sounds pretty cool definitely interested in the ethanol...go ahead post it up...not so many people visit the forums so if you dont see interest here doesn't mean you wont make sales...
I think overall after evaluating everything that I will.

I can do North America no problems, not really interested in shipping elsewhere due to vast costs for heavy items. I've been shipping samples of the various products to friends and family inside North America and even Mexico for decades.
Can you do other items such as methanol?
Methanol is available by the gallon in most hardware stores. They make it from catalyzed natural gas using nickel catalytic converters and it's generally pretty decent. I make mine from as a byproduct of hardwood charcoal making in sealed metal barrels using rare earth catalysts, copper and nickel and then refine it for acetone and methanol extraction for my own uses. It's so time consuming if it wasn't for the purity factors I achieve I wouldn't bother. I only do it once a year and only keep enough Dewar containers to hold out that long. The still I use for distilling these is a total pain in the ass to run because temps, reflux and vacuum have to be perfect. I can't imagine even trying it on a large scale basis.

I have done Irish style whiskeys a few times. The downside of hugely cultured spirits is they need at least a year to age and can't be shipped in concentrated form due to the ABV they get oaked at (absorb vanillins and such from oak wood). Top end is around 60% ABV on oak before cutting with distilled water for normal strength sipping whiskey. Not that I wouldn't do it but it would be limited release special editions and I'd have to prepare now for next year or start selling my own stock (which just isn't going to happen lol).
Thanks for the thoughts gents, I'll spend a couple weeks getting things down pat and get some listings up.

Methanol? Isn't methanol highly poisonous? That's the stuff you try to REMOVE from liquor.
Any update though on the shine?
I was gonna post an ad gauging interest in shine but apparently it's already been thought about at least. I live near the moonshining area of the States and was thinking about buying for resale.
I will say though, if I was in the market for it, I'd want it from the backwoods holler boys. THATS moonshine. Made from local corn and creek water. If you use tap water or distilled water, you'd be a helluva lot better off just buying Everclear. It's not real corn whiskey and it's a crying shame to try to call it moonshine.

SOOOO DOWN, i mean, never had this stuff and i've always wanted to! if you list it, i will purchase. it's that simple!!! looking forward to seeing your listings!!!

I would love a few bottles. And from the way you describe yourself your just the person I wanna buy it from!

Yeah, I could definitely see ordering some quality 96.5% ethanol of a higher quality.
+1 for this.
