Title: New to Silkroad
Post by: Brooks17 on March 13, 2013, 12:30 am
I am planning on purchasing something off the Silk Road tonight. When I log in and go to my account & it shows balance, withdraw, deposit etc. It gives me a long address. I believe that's my "wallet" number. When I buy Bitcoins, do I tell the seller to deposit the coins to that address shown?

Message me on my PGP key? How do I do that?

I say use another bitcoin wallet. Only cause that's how I do it, haha I use blockchain as a wallet then send it to SR from there.

you need to post your PGP key for use to send you a message.

There's a really good PGP tutorial on the forums on here, not in the newb section. There are images too so it's really easy to understand. And yeah you just send your wallet number to the seller. If you're buying off someone on silkroad he should just need your username to send you the funds though.

If you happen to be on a Linux distribution (which I highly recommend) PGP is incredibly easy to use in the terminal. I would advise using an external wallet to deposit purchased bitcoins into and then from that external wallet to your SR wallet. Also, I hear that it is a good idea to change your SR wallet address each time you make a new deposit.

You give the person sending you your coins the wallet address on your silkroad acc or make wallet on blockchain.info. The first time I got coins I used blockchain but it seemed to cost a tiny amount to send it on, so now I just get them sent direct to my SR wallet. Its simpler and I am just buying personal amounts of weed so not got much to worry about, although not a good for storing you bitcoins  ;)

The way pgp is explained can be so confusing. I did not get it at first either, download gpg4usb, there is also a user guide on their site which makes sense. I have never needed to use my own key just used the vendors key when I need to supply my shipping address
