I work at a factory doing 12 hour shifts and the work is very physically demanding. When i come home all i want to do is fall on the bed and get a good night's sleep for the next day. But no matter how tired i am or how early i go to bed i still cant get to sleep until around 4am. It is starting to affect my work i am tired almost all day every day and yet when its come to actually trying to get to sleep i have had no luck. I tried cannabis, diazepam and many over the counter sleeping aids. The problem with them is that no matter how relaxed i feel or how ready my body is for sleep my mind just wont shut down. Nothing seems to be working, is there a drug out there that actually targets the brain and not the body or should i just up the dose on a benzo to say 20mg. Benzos seem not to be the primary choice as they make me feel even worse during the day.

Ambien would be the best way to go but should not be used for long periods of time. The best way is to just use Ambien whenever you need to sleep and after a week you should get sleepy at that time without even taking Ambien.
-
make sure the strain of pot you're smoking is indica and not sativa. it's a common mistake to think that all pot is going to make you fall asleep.
-
benzos, but use them sparingly and come off them easy.
-
what are your habits before bed? it could be psychological.
-
Well usually my routine consists of watching the news at 10pm and when it ends at about 1035pm ill then take either a 10mg diazepam or smoke a joint of cannabis. Around 11pm ill be in bed with a cup of green tea supposedly this helps, it doesn't. Its not the effects of these drugs that i challenge my body does feel relaxed/numb. But ill just lie there for endless hours until its time to get up or get fed up enough to go for a jog or something. I think it is definitely psychological that's why i want something that targets the brain and not the body.

I would stop smoking a joint before bed otherwise you'll need it every time in the future to fall asleep. You can use this to reset your sleep cycle, it really works!
http://www.wisebread.com/how-to-naturally-reset-your-sleep-cycle-overnight
After fasting you should really aim to sleep whenever you want to sleep because once you reset your sleep cycle your body will get sleepy at that time from now on, you can use Ambien to aid this if you are still having problems sleeping. You can try OTC vitamins to help you like melatonin and drink it with some chamomile tea (not green tea).

Actually, the body develops a tolerance to melatonin extremely fast. It's only good for occasional insomnia. Beyond that you need something else.

Ambien

Is that why the bottle says to use it only for two weeks, tops? I always figured it would do something horrible to you. But it's because you're just going to get super tolerant to it?

True. Lunesta is the only sleeping pill that I know of that has been accepted for long-term use. It is pricy, but could help tremendously. In addition to lunesta, try adding a low dose of an atypical anti-psychotic (Abilify, Seroquel, Risperdal, etc...). These meds are basically designed to shut your mind off.
Other suggestions:
- Try not to smoke mj before bed. If you do, make sure you aren't smoking a Sativa-dominant strain as these can actually be quite stimulating.
- Save your benzos for the really bad night, when you get super anxious about falling asleep
-
Ambien or Imovain (I think they are the same thing). I know many people swear by them and as far as I am aware, they are not addictive like benzo's.
-
I've had insomnia for years and tried all the benzos (very addictive and can be hard to obtain), OTC meds, herbs and melatonin. I recommend Mirtazapine (Remeron) it's an anti-histamine that is marketed as an anti-depressant/sleep aid. I take 15mg every night and I have a great 8-9 hr sleep, it also helps me feel a lot more motivated during the day. I also take MDMA, MXE, Methylone, LSD and other drugs and there are no interactions unlike other anti-depressants.
Ambien is also good although it has some crazy side effects which I don't like.
-
There are also a bunch of other anti-depressant's prescribed as sleep aids. Seroquel and Trazadone are a couple. I've taken both (they prescribe them in smaller doses than they would for use as an anti-depressant).
I break a 50mg Trazadone in half and find it helps me get to sleep when I'm having trouble and a 25mg Seroquel works as well.

Good old fashion bong tokes or failing that a nice sized joint. Even an edible 2-3 hours before you plan on sleeping.
The answer is Cannabis Indica!
-
The green tea! I tried the same thing, the large amount of caffeine in most green tea will keep you up!
-
Try my ChillPill, it's not 'drugs' per se but might solve your problem.

A lot of people have recommended ambian, I'm sure this would be perfect but for me it is not an option. I have to operate large machinery all day and the side affects you get of ambian is just not worth the risk. Tryptamine's chill pill looks like a good alternative ill be making an order as soon as i can get some BTC together.

Try lunesta if you can - not as many sleep walking, etc episodes reported for it as for Ambien. Also, the effects of both lunesta and ambien only last 4-5 hours. They were made to put you in a sleep state, not keep you there for 8 hours. Try them on a non-work day to test their effects on you in particular

What about GHB?

Yeah i've taken Ambien a few times. I've actually ended up sleep eating on it...I was making my own BBQ sauce that day and was comparing different flavors. Took an Ambien and woke up and apparently I was sleep eating rolls of bread with nothing but BBQ sauce in them because all the rolls were gone and BBQ sauce was slathered all over the table. Talk about a wtf moment when you wake up.
If anything I would try resetting your sleep cycle as mentioned before. The bed should be used for 2 things only, sleep and sex. If you use your bed for other activities that stimulate your brain (watching TV, drinking, smoking, anything else) then your brain won't associate your bed with sleep, and you won't get tired. Just my opinion.

Okay, you need something shorter acting. Check out Zaleplon (Sonata). 1 hour half-life. Not going to be a problem the next day, even if you're going to be doing brain surgery.

ambien: works good and no bad hangover next day . tolernce slowly builds
halcion works great if you need super short half life , but stops working after using a week. If you just need to get your circadian rhythm to where it needs to be , its still a decent option , but most dr's don't like it anymore

Ambien is what you want. I have the same problem. I'll take something like xanax to try and sleep and all it does it make me relaxed yet not sleepy. Sometimes ill combine xanax and ambien, but ambien for sure. Just make sure to take it and dont do anything else besides try to sleep after you take it.

Eat a banana and then read.
-
Have an indica joint and fap before bed trust me.
-
I think ambien give you fake sleep. Not REM sleep. I think it just gives you amnesia. Just makes you forget that you did'nt have any sleep. ::)

+1 for Mirtazapine. My situation is similar.. diazepam was working until tolerance kicked in, melatonin or OTC herbs don't help

I take melatonin daily with great success. Not sure about the tolerance comment another poster made earlier, it works great for me.
You can also take benadryl (diphenhydramine) as a sedative. They give you 50mg in the hospital if you have trouble sleeping.
People also swear by Tryptamine's ChillPills, so I bet those are worth a shot as well.
These are three alternatives to sleeping pills, benzos, and anti-psychotics. I prefer the melatonin route because of its ability to reset the sleep cycle.
Best of luck to you!

Phenibut works wonders for me, but you can only use it a few days a week to prevent tolerance.
-
I went through a box of melatonin tablets after 1 month (taking 1 each night), it made no difference to my insomnia :(
-
Heroin. That shit will make you nod out fast haha. Especially if you're tired haha. Do 50mg and say good night :)

How many mg? I find 1mg barely affects me.

Never touch opiates, i think that is where i draw the line on my experimentation. And I'm not sure what 50mg would do to me.

Zopiclone. Cheap, safe (unlike it´s relative zolpidem :D) and way less addictive than "real" benzos. I am usually pretty hard-headed for benzos, but one 7,5 mg pill of zopiclone puts me to sleep in 20 minutes. Also, it is not entertaining in anyway so you won´t just decide to skip sleep and wander off in to the lights of the city.

yeah I was taking 1mg each night as per my doctor's instructions, sometimes I would miss a night and then take 2mg to make up for it the next night. The doc said that after 1 month of using it each night there should be an improvement :-/ oh wel

It doesn't work the way you think it does. You know what melatonin is? It's the hormone your body produces when you've been exposed to a lot of sunlight and then the light goes away... it's the "bedtime" hormone and it makes you sleepy. You know how you feel really tired after spending an entire day in the sun? Melatonin.
You need to take a more significant dose, and just take it whenever you remember to. Don't double up if you miss a dose, because it doesn't work like that.
I take 5mg. Seriously, go higher.

No matter which drug you choose, you gotta cut the green tea. It has enough caffeine to make you restless for sure. If you must have tea, try chamomile but don't add sugar or honey. Damn, that sounded like MarthafuckinStewart. I'll stfu now. ;D

+1, caffeine is a fucked up substance. Ever since cutting it out of my diet I've been much more wakeful. I had some accidentally once (punch with a little mountain dew mixed in) and it got me WIRED. Probably no more than 20mg and I was coked out. Seriously, caffeine's fucked up and you wouldn't even realize it because of how often everyone has it.

Barbitutates are fucking awesome. When I was WDing from Heroin I took 2 and pasted out for 8-10 hours which I WOULD OF NEVER OF DONE WITHOUT IT! I would of woke up every 4 hours and take 30-60min to go back to sleep if I just took xanax. Xanax is nothing....Reds are where it's at!
Ask your doctor about barbs. Those will work I feel.
