How would this work?  iOS devices have (semi) GPS locators, and software called find my device.  All you do is pull up iCloud, click a button, and it shows exactly where your device is located.  Also, they have an option to wipe the data and lock it.

Thats because you personally own that iphone, these are 'meant' to be bulk shipments that are probably intercepted (still in boxes). Plus there are methods to deactivate the gps.

Plenty of carding forums sell carded Apple junk. You just need to know from them is it coming carded directly to you (dangerous) or have they already sent it to a drop, and are now selling online?

Pretty 100% sure these would be carded directly to you, so you need a safe drop otherwise they'd just be selling them locally on craigslist or ebay and making a killing.
