I'm wondering if I buy btc from an exchange and then send to a random wallet (for instance localbitcoin.com wallet) and then Silkroad, does this extra step do anything to increase my security? I know SR has some tricks to make the btc more anonymous before they arrive, how much more is really needed to be relatively safe? Or should I just use bitcoin fog?

Bump for interest.

Simply buy your Bitcoins at www.Bitcoin-Brokers.org
Pay at MoneyGram with NO ID.
Bitcoins are sold for 2% BELOW MtGox...cheaper than Bitinstant.
Available in every country as compared to Bitinstant which is basically just for the USA.
Additionally you can sell your Bitcoins back to Bitcoin-Brokers for a cash pick up at MoneyGram without needing to show ID...totally anonymous.

^^^ This is clearly a scam don't do this
The best way to buy btc is definitely blue sky traders, the only caveat is that you need to spend over $400 but it's definitely worth it. All you do is email the owner with the $$ amount and your btc wallet and they give you the info for a bank of america out of state deposit slip. that is 100% anonymous, none of your info goes on it. The fees are also really really minimal for the service you get. here's tha link http://ok2yri46aaptiu2d.onion/index.htm
also, bitcoins are anonymous by design, when you send them to your sr address, that is more than enough safety. remember, bitcoins are legal

I guess I must add, I'm from Europe.

Local https://localbitcoins.com/ for cash I use
also move the bc around a few wallets before SR, though I can lose 10% doing this
