i've previously read on this forum that the most secure way of shipping was with mbb's, but that the width of the element should be at least 4mm in width. the impulse sealer i have uses the standard 2mm wide heating element, would it be acceptable to just seal the package 2 times so that it adds up to 4mm? or should i look for a wider heating element.
also i'm having trouble finding wider heating elements, most places i've looked only carry the standard 2mm wide elements. however, if sealing the package 2 or more times is acceptable i'll just use that.

If looking online, you may have better luck searching for 5mm elements, rather than 4mm. There are plenty on amazon, ebay etc.

The TEW 5mm sealers are readily available, low cost, and they're easy to service when the elements die. doubling up the 2mm should be fine as well, just space them out a bit so you don't hit the same area twice.
Good luck

your looking for 5mm minimum with the correct heat, etc. if your using the correct bags they will be too thick for a proper seal with the cheaper/smaller sealers.

I found one of these back of my garage cabinet, covered in roach poop, spider-webbed to shut, along with 15 boxes of bags. Its done wonders for me, I let it get really hot and press hard it does 5 mm. but if i only lightly press it its about 2.5. =]
lmao the best sealer is the free sealer. For all my orders, I seal once, wrap in 3 layers of Reynolds extra strength aluminum foil, then a paper towel, then seal again, then wrap in printer paper, put a thick stiff privacy envelope, before i drop in a priority, or express envelope.
Never had a packages seized, but Ive only shipped to Europe 3 times, and Canada 4 times, with this method.

BTW you can buy these all day long for like $5.

Can you give me a mfg. / model on a good sealer and a description to find bags as well?
Thanks,
