There is a point where they take a drug they name 'maria chrome' or 'maria chrone' or something like that. its when they completely flip out and see themselves as devils etc. What is it what they are taking there?
-
They're taking adrenochrome. Hunter S. Thompson just made that up as a fictional substance, but that substance actually exists, it doesn't have any real effects though. Check out erowid for adrenochrome and you'll experience reports... It doesn't seem interesting at all, nothing like what happens in the movie.

+1 thanks for the quick answer.

Yeah, it's adrenachrome. Total BS, but it's funny in the movie. Hunter's lawyer was talking to (or about, I forget) his dealer about getting some of that elusive, rare adrenachrome. It's supposedly so hard to get because it can "only come from the human adrenal gland".
Then later, there is a guy on the phone talking about some brutal murder where they cut out the person's adrenal gland. Later still, Hunter & his lawyer are in the hotel room, and they have a vial of adrenachrome. The subtext is that he put in an order for it, the dealer (or the dealer's thugs) went out and killed someone to get their adrenal gland to harvest the adrenachrome, and the guys got high off of it. In other words, some poor sap got murdered just for Hunter to get baked.

I love that scene. I totally get what he is saying there!

What a film, great book too. Must be the closest realization of a book to film.
-
Yeah Depp spent a long time living with Hunter in order to pick up his personality traits and whatnot. He did a great job.

Yep. Number one in that category!

Yeah man I agree I never really seen any interview by Hunter S. Thompson until maybe after my 4th or 5th time watching the film and I couldn't believe it. It was like seeing twins he really did perfect that role down to the tee.

Indeed. I was amazed when I read it (having seen the movie beforehand). The first quarter of the book must look almost identical to the movie script. :P
