Title: Which God?
Post by: SealTeam6 on May 21, 2013, 07:34 pm
If the polytheistic definition of religion and God that the Greeks believed in was real, which God would you be and why?

First I think it is important to do know how you define god?
For example in Arabic the word for god is ilaah. And is usefully mistranslated as god.
But the literal translation is object of worship.
That would bring on to the next word what is the definition of worship.
Worship would be any act that is done for the sake of acquiring the pleasure/reward of the object of worship in question.

I know this is not really the answer to your question. Because only know I read your full post

PS a person can take his own desires as an object of worship. And doing acts that would please them.

Wish you the best.

Your on the wrong page!  I'm talking specifically Greek Gods and only Greek Gods.  Think of it as role playing for a mind fuck!

that why I sad sorry. But I already spend some time writing and found it a waste to delete every thing.
By my definition of god I would not like to be an object of worship.
So that is my contribution to your tread. Hope it pleases you in any way

Wish you the best

What's wrong with being an object of worship?

Well because I myself do not feel that I am worthy of worship.

As a Muslim I believe that the only one worthy of worship is the one that Created me.

Apollo.

God of light, music, arts, knowledge, healing, plague and darkness, prophecy, poetry, purity, athletism, manly beauty, and enlightenment. He is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis. As brother and sister, they were identified with the sun and moon; both use a bow and arrow. In the earliest myths, Apollo contends with his half-brother Hermes. In sculpture, Apollo was depicted as a very handsome, beardless young man with long hair and an ideal physique. As the embodiment of perfectionism, he could be cruel and destructive, and his love affairs were rarely happy. His attributes include the laurel wreath and lyre. He often appears in the company of the Muses. Animals sacred to Apollo include roe deer, swans, cicadas, hawks, ravens, crows, foxes, mice, and snakes.

Well if he created you in his image are you not worthy of some worship?

I think the most appropriate Hellenic deity to SR is...

Hermes! God of traders and travelers!

Well I think you questions has answer. If He created me I should worship Him. And if other would worship me.
I would not like nor accept it because He created them and me so we should all be worshiping Him.

I agree!  Where I disagree is at the part of you/anyone deserving worship.  You can't escape worship sometimes even if you don't want it.  For instance when people have children, those children are going to worship them as if they were Gods, its the kids perspective on the matter, is this type of worship wrong?

Action are judge by there intention. If the children obey and are kind to there parents because the are fallowing the command of God the Creator then they are in fact worshiping the Creator. But if it would be for any other reason then they would not be doing something that is best.
By the way. Islamic theology everybody is born sinless and even if you sin as a child when you reach adulthood all the sins are forgiven and you start fresh. Same if you enter Islam or the previous sins are forgiven and you start with a nice clean sheet.
