Title: DMT melting in transit
Post by: lenka58 on June 16, 2012, 02:25 pm
A question for my fellow SR'ers.

I'm anticipating an order of DMT, but I'm concerned that the product will melt during transit. If this happens, is the DMT still effective? I was planning on dissolving the freebase to make changa.

Insight appreciated.

I've had my DMT sitting in a drawer for months, gets unbelievably hot in here when I'm gone long enough and it hasn't melted. If you receive a product in liquid form the vendor most likely shipped it that way.

From the research I've done the melting point is about 116°F so I think it will be just fine :) mine arrived just fine in 90 degree weather :)!

If it was extracted well and doesn't have any solvent left over it shouldn't melt, but if it does it is still effective. It will probably be packed in filter paper so it doesn't stick to the plastic. If it melts into the paper just use the solvent you were planning on using to make the changa, I've generally used acetone, to pull it out of the paper.

Well guys, the product became a bit waxy in transit, but not sticky enough to adhere to the plastic bag. Should be fine for some changa alchemy!
Thanks for the info.

Mine unfortunately melted in this ungodly 107 degree weather despite being hidden in a dark, cool area. Normally I'd have been able to salvage it by recrystallizing it in my freezer, only it was wrapped in paper which it soaked into meaning it's completely worthless. So much DMT, just disappeared.  :'(

You should be able to salvage a good portion of it if you drop the paper into alcohol or acetone and let it sit for a while. Remove the paper and evaporate the solvent and you should be good to go.

So drop the paper in some nail-polish remover for an hour, then remove the paper & dump it onto some glass and let it evaporate? Sort of like evaporating Bufo alvarius venom to produce 5-MeO-DMT?

I don't know if I'd use finger nail polish remover since there can be a bunch of other crap in it, but yeah it should work. I've used acetone to extract DMT from mimosa hostilis root bark, if it can pull it from that it should be able to pull it from paper.

One thing to note with the acetone is it may be worth it to "dry" it first with anhydrous magnesium sulfate(baked epsom salt) to remove most of the water. That should make the evaporation step easier and not leave you with a puddle of watery DMT sludge.

Wow, that sucks. (Stating the obvious.)

Wait a second.  On second thought, if DMT can be extracted from a plant, it can sure be extracted from your paper.  Try 99% isopropyl alcohol, which you can get at the grocery store.  Soak the paper in a bit of the alcohol in a small beaker or whatever, remove the paper from the alcohol and throw it away, and let the alcohol evaporate.  You should be able to recover at least some of your DMT.

Definitely do not use nail polish remover! Way too much other crap in it.

The best way would be to use proper lab grade ethanol since if there is any remaining, it won't poison you. But it can be hard to get hold of if you don't work or know someone who works in a lab. Second best would be isopropyl alcohol as gambino suggested, its pretty cheap.

I recieved 200 mg from Elvis today, had turned a bit waxy in transit, should still be good to go right?

It should be fine. If you want to make it a little easier to work with put it in the freezer for an hour or two and that should make it hard enough to chop into a powder with a razor blade or something. How long it stays a powder before getting all waxy again I don't know, the only time I've done it I used it right after.

Good info, what would you recommend as a dose? Ive never tried it before... And can anyone suggest a good homemade way of smoking it?

Is there some obvious reason I'm missing why you couldn't just slice up the paper and vaporize it in whatever pipe you were already planning to use?

Granted, dosages might be a little hard to nail down, but you could even do that if you're methodical.  Just cut the paper into small regular squares, weigh them, and then weigh strips of "clean" paper of exactly the same size.  The difference is your drug.  (And congratulations, you've just invented the DMT blotter.)  :)

I've tried that several ways and the paper just shrivels up and incinerates in less than a second. But yeah I'll just try dipping it in the 99% isopropyl alcohol I use to clean my pieces with.

I would suggest starting with 50mg, that should be more than enough for a breakthrough unless you have the same crazy tolerance that I have.

Easiest way I would say to smoke it would be sandwiched between some herbs in a regular old pipe, preferably one that you don't plan on using for anything else since it will reek of DMT afterwards. Don't light it directly, just hold the flame over the top and inhale trying not to burn it.

Jet lighter or normal lighter ?

You have a little more control with a jet lighter but either will work just fine.

I highly recommend the Vapor Genie, though it isn't the most cost effective.  (Smoking DMT in my Vapor Genie once is why I now own two Vapor Genies.)
