hey I bought a pack of 20 hypodermic needles awhile ago and I've used them all about 3 times.. should I be sterilizing them after the first use?
buying more needles isn't an option for me

any needle exchange around?
this is not going to end well! a bacterial infection and you could loose your arm.. or die!
I think you should ask for "help" if you cant even afford needles. any family members or relatives who could buy you some?

is there nothing I can do to sterilize a hypodermic needle?
I definitely don't want to lose an arm or die, so I won't IV anymore until I can sterilize these or get new needles
I'm worried now.. what are the early signs of an infection? :-\ I want to be sure I haven't already gave myself an infection.
thanks.

Have a look at this image i've uploaded before you use those syringes again...

If you absolutely must use them again, wash them out in warm-hot soapy water, rinse them clean a few times with clean cold water, then soak them in Isopropyl alcohol, fill them and activate the plunger a few times with IPA, then let it all evaporate.

I can't view the image because it says it contains errors ???
and thanks I'll do that if I have to use these needles again
I've always rinsed them out with steaming hot water (not boiling though) and used alcohol pads before injecting, so hopefully I haven't given myself an infection
I really wish it was easier to get hypodermic needles :-\

fixed ;) try again

Wow :o didn't realize they went dull that fast
by the way, this might be stupid.. but would it sterilize the needle tip if I held it to a flame?

Using used syringes is a very bad practice, it's easier to miss your injections and if you don't miss, the used needles will be tearing up your veins so much that it requires two or three times longer than normal to heal the injection site, allowing a bigger window of opportunity for bacteria and infection to cultivate and set in.
Do not use a cigarette lighter to sterilize an IV needle! You will melt the plastic holding it in, possibly releasing petro-chemicals into your bloodstream. You will also coat the needle with carbon scoring which is also not a good thing to stick up your vein.

Yeah I thought using a lighter would be stupid which is why I haven't done it
thank you very much for all the help
by the way, totally off-topic.. I got a fallkniven f1 and I love it haha

Infections can be noticed from any redness and/or swelling of the injection area, any itchiness or discomfort in the area also could indicate a problem. To aid in healing, use some antiseptic lotion (a very small amount only, when you notice it has be absorbed, apply a little more - NOT INTERNALLY! topically, on the skins surface of the injection site).
