I am a new user who is trying to get a vendors acct. Unfortunately, tormail has apparently been revoked by the russian embassy since 4/20. If anybody knows what I should do for my email acct and/or has other info on this, please PM me or respond to the post. THANK YOU

Between SR PM and these forums, your should be able to do fine without an email for the time being.

but isnt one necessary to have a vendors account? and if i only use the email for registration and never communicate threw it would something like gmail be equally as protected as tormail?

tormail.net is now tormail.org, the hidden service is still the same. And gmail isn't friendly towards Tor, if you try connecting through too many exit nodes your account'll get locked and you'll need to unlock it with a mobile number.

Are you sure about this?
I've been using Gmail with Tor for a couple of month now with multiple accounts, and never experienced this so far.
Sometimes Gmail asks for the city where I have been logged in before, I guess it's suspicious that I log in from a different city every time.
So it might be a good idea to check the exit node's IP to get the city when you make the account, and memorize it for later use.
I also got an "Your account might have been hacked" message once, 2 month after the suspicious IP logged in into my account, but I was advised to change my password immediately.
I wouldn't use Gmail as a vendor though because they surely log and save every email that even my grandchildrens will be able to see.
I'm also afraid of Tormail because too many people are using it, popular SPs might get the attention of feds, they might turn it to a honeypot if it's not that already.
Right now I don't really know what email service should I use.
UPDATE: A Gmail account just got frozen. This happens if the account is usually accessed from the same area (IP range), then suddenly from a different IP, and phone verification is set.
If the IP range or the area I use to access the acc is similar or close by to the usual place, there is no problem. If it's different, or it's a known Tor exit node, then there is a verification process.
In case there was no security questions or phone validation set on the account, you need to tell the name of the area where the account was accessed from in the past.
In case of security questions, those needs to be answered.
But in case of phone validation the acc get frozen, and you need to verify it via phone to open it up again.
Most exit nodes are blocked anyway, I was unable to open an acc without a mandatory phone verification.
I had no problems with my past accounts though.

That's just been my experience with gmail. And who cares if tormail is a federal honeypot, use gpg and it doesn't matter. :-)

I was informed about tormail.net becoming .org..tried it...still wouldnt work i believe that will only work for those who already have an email with them. But if i just use gpg in my PM, is an email even necessary??

No it's not necessary I think. Although I'm not certain, I think you need an e-mail to set up PGP, or maybe to register a seller's account(although I'm pretty sure making a fake one like weed@dank.com would work). Best to have one also so that customers may contact you even in the case that SR is shut down.

So the TorMail.org email actually works? I heard something about it not being able to receive emails from external services.

Well, yeah you can make an account, but can you receive emails from external email services?
-
Hehe - N/P. Everything works externally just like it used to - you just have to use .org now (tormail.net is GONE from the real Internet - probably forever).
Internally (in squirrel-mail/round-cube/thunderbird-tor), the .net addresses _will_ still work (again, internally ONLY), but I just wouldn't use them anymore. Id say just get used to everything being tormail.org now, and be done with it.

P.S. - I don't like some of the potential security implications that could _possibly_ arise from this - but that's another topic, for another day. I don't think we should be too worried. They seem to be on top of things - I'm just keeping an eye on them..
