i got something called "God's Gift" last year from Study Aid. It's "parents" are OG Kush and GDP. Now I'm reading about a strain named "Cherry Pie" and it has the same parents as GG. How can two different strains have the same parents and not be the same stuff?

If I remember correctly cherry pie is only 16% gdp and also has durban poison in it's genetics which gods gift doesn't have.
Also, just because some strains share the same parents doesn't mean they will be the same.
There are so many OG phenos it's ridiculous, some are sativa some indica.

There is generally quite a bit of variation with seed strains. The term usually used is phenotypes, or phenos. Any given seed grow can throw out a number of different phenos with different characteristics (flowering time, stretch, taste, type of high etc). So called "clone only" strains are generally just specific phenos of other strains that have been passed around in clone form because they display an uncommon mutation.
In the context of your question, just because the parents of each of those strains were the same (in very broad terms) doesn't mean that they had similar characteristics. If one breeder selected their parent stock based on flowering time and disease resistance, and the other selected based on yield and THC content, you could expect that the resulting offspring would be different.
There's more to it than that, and i'm too baked to make much sense at the moment, but that's the basic gist of it.

@proj, I thought that was Girl Scout Cookies that has the Durban Poision. Both of these are Indicas on Leafly.
@UKGrower that makes sense enough, i doubt i would be able to understand more anyways.

the same reason my brother and I don't look exactly alike, sexual reproduction.
