Title: "Sorry. You are not using Tor" message on browser
Post by: PartTimeFiend on July 12, 2013, 09:12 am
I just clicked on "Start Tor Browser", and although my Vidalia Control Panel says "Connected to the Tor Network!", when the browser launched, I got the following message: -

Sorry. You are not using Tor.

If you are attempting to use a Tor client, please refer to the Tor website and specifically the instructions for configuring your Tor client.

Your IP address appears to be: [REDACTED JUST IN CASE]

****
Removed the IP just in case it was your real IP address

SSBD

****

Slightly contradictory statements.  Has anyone got any suggestions on what I should do?   Obviously I didn't want to log into my SR account, but thought I'd put a shout out to the community.   Btw, I confess I was playing with the settings on Firefox yesterday as it wasn't displaying webpages properly.  Not sure if this could've impacted on Tor browser settings...?

Cheers,
PartTimeFiend

I would advise you to amend your post.

completely uninstall the tor browser....delete any and all instances of the tor borwser bundle....

go to torproject.org and download the latest version of the tor browser bundle....

then come back and tell us that you're ok.

A few people had this problem earlier this week. I know a few people just re opened TOR and everything was back to normal.

Many thanks for the responses.  I should've mentioned in original post that I had changed a few digits on the IP address (just in case it was actually mine!)  -  Thankyou to whoever was able to go in and edit my post.  Appreciate your concern for security.

So in the end I just refreshed the page and got the usual message:

Congratulations. Your browser is configured to use Tor.

I then completely logged out, and logged in again and got the usual message. This gave me confidence to login to SR, with no issues.  Still, I'd be interested to know what is causing this...

I think I'll take off and re-install the Tor bundle again, just to be sure.

Cheers,

Tor Status has false negatives and positives on occasion. If your exit node has just been added then you will possibly not be detected as using Tor, because the list of known Tor exit IP addresses at Tor Status is not kept 100% up to date in real time.

ha ha ChemCat. Looks like you typed this post as you were emerging from the DMT sensorium!   Me and my missus finished off our Changa on Friday night.  Wow...  that stuff will never cease to amaze me.  I no longer consider it a 'drug'.  Definitely a key to another dimension.  Just placed a new order from Asylum....

Peace out.
