Does anyone on here know if a drug test can differentiate between the different types of opiates? I am getting conflicting info, even from medical professionals. Some people say if you have a prescription for a painkiller, say Vicodin for instance, you are cool to take other opiates as far as drug tests go because an opiate is an opiate and the drug test cannot differentiate from oxy to hydro to codeine to heroin to whatever. Even poppy seeds.
However, I have also heard, this time from an RN, that this is not true. Drug tests can tell exactly what opiods you have ingested or smoked the past 72 hours.
Anyone?

There are specific tests for oxy and the morphones(the nine panels will pick these up)... a five panel is gonna see opium, morphine, codiene. I literally put opana in my nose the day before i took a five panel and it came up fine. Also... the testers went to lunch and left all the test kits out in the bathroom... So i snagged a bunch of tests to keep around just in case.

I agree with the above, it depends on how specific the drug test is. Basic drug tests cannot differentiate, but there are tailored ones that do. Usually the specific ones are given when they are looking for a certain thing.
FYI Suboxone/Subutex/Buprenorphine although a partial-agonist opiate, will NOT show up on an opiate drug panel. That drug has to be specifically tested for. I know this for a fact.
