I've been trying to figure this stuff out for far too long now. I just want to figure it out already! It's so frustrating for me because I'm not totally stupid, and normally can figure things out for myself with a bit of persistence, and I know that it is dead easy.
I'm using GPG Keychain access on mac OSX. SO far, I have managed to import peoples public keys from SR into Keychain access. From here, I'm really not sure. I've read tutorials, I've been reading posts on this forums, and there seems to always be crucial points left out. Do we send the messages though SR? I have it set up in my 'Mail' app, and am able to sign and encrypt emails through that, but I don't really understand how it works because I'm not using anyone's keys to do that...???
So if someone could be very patient with me, and explain things thoroughly, I would be very much appreciative.
-
yeah, just send messages through SR. no need for email at all. go to my profile and import my public key. type a message in plain text. encrypt that message using my public key. send me the output- it will look like a wall of rubbish. if i can decrypt it, you are doing it right. if not, i will tell you. just send it to me with a PM on the main site, not here on the forum. i check mail on the main site a lot so it will be quicker.
i dont use a mac so im not the best person to tell you how to do the steps, but ask here if you have a question and maybe someone with a mac who is using your software can help with that part.
hang in there, you will figure this out. once you have done it a couple of times you will see it is dead simple. it is just tricky to learn at first.

morning, i have a mac and had issues also but now i'm all sorted. this is how i do.....
1) open TextEdit and type your message.
highlight the message with cursor ( as if you're going to copy/paste)
2) go to TextEdit dropdown menu and go to the Services dropdown menu*.
here you should see and choose a option OpenPGP: Encrypt.
(*if you have not highlighted your message this option won't appear)
3) then a small Choose Recipients GPGServices window should appear.
choose/tick your recipient.
importantly in this window (below recipients list) the Secret Key should show your own details.
4) click OK and Choose Recipients GPGServices window disappears. immediately your message in TextEdit gets encrypted in front of you.
generally i attach my Public Key below my encrypted message. done simply by opening and choosing your own name in GPG Keychain Access. press command C (copy) and then in TextEdit under the encrypted message press command V (paste).
5) now highlight and copy all the TextEdit text (encrypted message and your Public Key) and paste into your PM and send.
6) below is my Public Key if you want to post a encrypted message and i'll decrypt it.
remember to attach your own Public Key.

Thanks. I was reading a bit on it but this is simple to understand

Hi,
I'm wondering something on this step:
"3) then a small Choose Recipients GPGServices window should appear.
choose/tick your recipient.
importantly in this window (below recipients list) the Secret Key should show your own details."
When I do this bit, in the box that comes up, there is a tickbox right next to where i choose my secret keythat says 'sign' which by default is not ticked. should this box be ticked?
