I posted something like this in the H thread, but this is probably a better place.
Here we are on page 355 of the H thread and most of it is now irrelevant. The most useful threads are those dedicated to individual vendors. There I can go look at a vendor's history, how they've done over time, get a quick sense of multiple buyers reactions, whether they've had some rough spots and recovered, etc.
Maybe the organization under market/rumor mill should be
an opiate section
a cocaine section
a weed section
etc.
Within each section there can be threads focused on a single vendor. Relevant, current vendors can be stickied. Vendors that have moved on fade into the background. This doesn't handle vendors that sell multiple categories but neither does the existing structure.
What do you all think?

This seems like more of a feature request but I suppose the discussion board is frequented more often so it makes sense that you'd put it here. On to the relevant portion of my post: I think that this is a great idea and would definitely cut down on the chaos that is the current Rumor Mill. +1 Karma for you.

I think a good option might be to split the Mill into two different sections:
-Discussion section, where people can generally talk about vendor's products, shipping, etc.
-Official vendor review thread section, where only vendors can start threads, but anyone can reply. Nothing gets stickied in this section, it's reliant on the market to keep the worthwhile threads bumped to the top.
I think the first section would be pretty much like the current Rumor Mill, but without official vendor-specific threads cluttering it up. The second section would make finding those elusive vendor threads much easier amongst all the other "nonsense" (which is everything else when that's all you're looking for). The second section would be a pretty clean access point to info about the most prominent vendors, assuming there is some moderation to prevent vendor-spam.

+1 hit that one right on the nail. I feel like if we split it into categories it would be too much of a mess and on top of that we would single out vendors that sell multiple products not just one niche. A vendor only section would be perfect and less cluttered :)

I like the idea of the market driving active vendor threads to the top in a forum dedicated to just vendors. They tend to get pushed down amidst all the other clutter- how many pages deep to people usually browse? I only view the first two, sometimes three, unless I'm looking for a specific thread.

I like the idea of activity pushing vendors to the top - they would naturally fall out when they go inactive.
I don't know the best way to handle vendors with multiple products. Sometimes it is hard to find news about a vendors product (t's coke, for example) while they are well know for H. I don't think any solution is ideal. If they a vendor is listed by section (coke, H, weed, etc.) they might appear in multiple sections, but people making comments are not likely to be looking in the wrong section for their comment. For example, I want to make a comment on t's H - I wouldn't go to the coke section. So I don't think that there is a big problem from that. But people wouldn't see a complete profile of the vendor either. That might be good and bad. If a vendor is consistently good with one product, that wouldn't necessarily carry over to another product.
I kind of lean toward mirroring the sections that products appear in and letting vendors appear more than once. But any step in this direction would help.
I thank all for the suggestions and improvements.

All good suggestions and I hope that they can be implemented sooner rather than later. Especially given the slow nature of TOR, things should be more compartmentalized in order to speed up researh.
Excellent,

Excellent,
Nomad, what do you think? What do we need to do in order to try to improve the utility of this section?

Whoever moved this from Silk Road Discussion to here would you consider moving it back, or possibly move it to Feature Requests? People in general don't come to the Rumor Mill to discuss improvements to the Rumor Mill. I think this thread would be better served in a more suggestion-oriented section.
It would be great if you let me know why you moved it as well. It's really odd for it to disappear without warning.
thanks.

I've wanted separate subforums for a while now, but I'm not sure if it'll happen.
I don't really have an interest in anything but cannabis, so everything else just gets in the way.
A Vendors and Discussion subforum with subsubforums would work well, I'd say.
I'm selfish - I just want to create a thread so everyone can post Weed Porn pics from the wonderful products that the vendors here sell.

Why don't you think it will happen? Any ideas about how to help get it to happen?

I think the SR Forum is low on the priority list for the admins. It doesn't really bring in money.
I brought it up to a mod a while ago, and that's the vibe I got.

Thanks for the advice. I think this would make it easier for buyers to make good purchase decisions - that's got to help the revenue picture.
I've added a poll to see if that generates any interest.
