The packages are not available for connecting with pidgin-silc, they are not in the repository.
How would I go about installing silc onto ubuntu in order to connect to the silkroad silc channel?

Compile pidgin from source.

Laughing Man: I dont think I am technically proficient enough to compile pidgin from source.

Try the ppa package: https://launchpad.net/~pidgin-developers/+archive/ppa

Would you say those Ubuntu PPA packages would work with Debian Wheezy, which also has the same problem.
Could compile from source but would rather not.

Thanks! I didn't know they had a PPA. so the PPA has SILC?

Just use the software manager/center, search for pidgin and choose to install it.

There's no option for SILC protocol in the account menu of pidgin (using linux mint12 lisa live-cd / pidgin 2.10.0 libpurple 2.10.0).
Is there some substitute to http://www.silcnet.org/ ?
