Post by: some1ne on January 02, 2013, 11:25 pm
Do ISP keep a record of their users internet or phone activity, for example when I call someone will this call be registered and stored by my provider ?

Can they do this according to law ?

Phone records, yes, and it can and will be surrendered to law enforcement with a warrent.

Internet is a different story, but yes it can also be traced. Deep packet inspection, etc

How long do they keep phone record generally ?

Phone record I mean the voice of my call, not just the numbers and date and time of call...

some telecommunications companies do not even require a warrant from the police, they co-ordinate operations with each other, sharing information

best way to avoid that is to use mobile prepaid broadband under a false name, buy a new sim card once a month, new name.

this is the only time i would ever tell anyone to go to walmart.
u can get a non gps - 10 dollar track phone that the guy at the electronics
counter will activate 4 u. u dont need to supply name or anything only the next town
over's zip code so it will be in the correct area code. while there is no gps in the phone
there is still such a thing as tower triangulation. the only way to stay completely safe
is to physically take out the battery when not in use.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that generally only records of numbers, dates, times, and possibly general geographic location (for smart phones) are kept by telco providers.  LE has the ability to remotely monitor a cellphone microphone on demand, but I don't believe a telecom company would store full audio recordings of all customers, at all times.. I guess it is conceivable, but I don't think it is done.
