Title: Bitcoins in the UK
Post by: qwertyyuiop on January 01, 2013, 02:03 am
Hi! Sorry I'm completely new to this site, so please bear with me. Hope I'm posting in the right forum, it seemed the best one at least.

I've never bought Bitcoins before, where's the best place to buy them from in the UK? Also, is there a way to work out how many coins you'll get for your money before you actually pay? I've been on sites where you can buy them but I'm kind of confused by it all, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)

It's been tough to find anywhere to buy from without paying for a bankwire or a SEPA transfer.  However:

https://blockchain.info/

Seems to be offering coins for a UK online bank transfer.  They give you a quote before you buy and charge 5% commission. Haven't tried it yet myself, so please report back if you give them a go.

Thanks! I found that one and it seems good, I'm in the process of setting up an online banking account but will be sure to report back once i've tried it. I also found Bitstamp which seems good if anyone's tried it? Not sure if that one works in the UK or not though, I'll have to figure that out..

If you want to meet the seller in-person you could always use localbitcoins.  And if you don't, then you can purchase BTC from me using Western Union, see the link in the signature.  Good luck.

Local bitcoins is a straight forward website to use and sure beats mtgoxs fees.
Check the website bitbargain.co.uk they do rapid transfers with ease.

Blockchain.info has a Barclays PingIt deposit option which gives you coins instantly. Before I left Barclays it was my go-to Bitcoin method.

Edit: DO NOT deposit with the PingIt method at this time. I just read about Blockchain customers not receiving coins since Saturday/Sunday.
