Title: Electronica Discussion
Post by: Secretive on December 18, 2012, 02:19 am
Where are my Electronica fans at?! I have been listening to forms of electronic music for a long time now. I absolutely love it and know I am not alone. Post you're favorite genres, artists, tracks, or anything else related to Electronica!

I love just about all music and it always goes in phases. Last 2 years it's been mostly dubstep, hardcore, triphop, and lot's of shit like SCI and STS9. Molly's been good lately so I think that has something to do with it.

Strongly prefer electro house / prog / trance but for dub/glitch I'd strongly recommend checking out xKore, Pegboard Nerds

Fav electro producer/DJ: Le Castle Vania

Trance: Above & Beyond

And all hail the Glitch Mob & and Soundtribe ;)

Have been into dubstep for about 4 - 5 years now. Started with stuff from the UK. But like with any music I like to do my research and find its roots, its spin offs and everything in-between. So I went back to reggae roots. Explored some of the fat dub lines these artists were producing.

Should look up King Tubby. Roots Manuva.

Then just sort of sat there for a while, and then Skrillex exploded onto the scene and everyone listens to dubstep now.

Haven't been up to date for w while, but I definitely still listen to my roots and experimental stuff.

Would love to get some artist names from this thread.

None I linked are anywhere close to brostep... Klaypex maybe being the closest. But still not even!

Shuffle on,

Biome and Kryptic Minds are the shiznik. Deep and atmospheric, no grinding, messy, mid-range, FOTM nonsense.

Also, Bird of Prey is one of the most amazing artists to emerge in recent years.

OP change the thread title so we can have a general Electronica discussion! (which I was actually thinking of starting the other day) - rather than just Dubstep.  :)

I had my main Dubstep phase about 3 years ago. I still like it, but mainly just at raves/festivals where I can get drunk or take other drugs and have a good ol' time skanking. But it's not something I can sit down and listen to 24/7 anymore; not the proper brostep anyway. The "filthiness" just starts to get old. I can appreciate the production, but music-wise it just starts to get a bit stale. Never listening to it at home though only makes it more enjoyable at festivals, where the filthiness seems fresh again.

But in terms of Electronica, Drum & Bass and House is where it's at for me right now.
Neurofunk, Liquid, Jump Up DnB, and Progressive House, Hard House/Hardstyle.
I've also started getting into Trap music, after seeing Baauer the other week.

There are too many good producers to list all of them... but I've at least got to mention the mighty Noisia!

Dubstep is the reggae of the 2010s. ;-)

Maybe I'm just getting old.

PS: The above can be positive or negative and is meant as a joke... no need to karma me down. :-D

I am a big fan of Dubstep from 2004-2008 time frame.  I kinda lost interest with the dubstep remixes of pop songs and too many female vocals, mid range bass automation, etc.

On youtube search:

D Double E and DJ Tubby set.

Youngsta - Rinse FM podcast (19.11.2012)

This is the kind of stuff I am into.  I also really enjoy UKF.  My favorite artist is Jook10 (Look for tracks like: Megatron, Stahs, Tribal Lord).  I like to get down to older 2-step stuff as well..  Sovereign, EL-B, Artful Dodger, etc.

I guess you could go as far as to say, that I have been into UK Urban stuff for a while.

Same here. Most female voices in Dubstep are bullshit. I also like 2-Step. Are you aware of the recent return of that genre? Many amazing garage tunes have been made lately :)

Dubstep= shitty fad music with wabbles.........

I listen to just about everything but the culture and people that generally LOVE dubstep are retarded. I have never seen a more packed house full of asshats than when you get dubstep fans together. If I am out and hear one more tool talk about "Here comes the drop!!!!" or "Oh man thats FILTHY!!!!" I think I am going to fucking punch them in the face. If you want some quality music that is similar please just get into drum and bass.

Yeah, man..  I knew 2-step would make a comeback.  I was following L2S records since their inception,.

If you know of any new 2-step traacks that bring back the old vibe, I'm all about some recommendations.

As a fan of REAL Dubstep, I agree with you. Lots of recent "Dubstep" is complete bullshit.

I've been to pretty lights, infected mushroom, and Shpongle in concert. I know only one of those groups are technically  dubstep. Still amazing groups though, especially pretty lights light show. Holy shit! So many drugs, glow sticks, girls, and loud music. A few times i had to check my pulse to make sure i hadn't died and i was actually in heaven.

It was a good idea in a previous post so I changed the thread title to "Electronica Discussion" Damn I like all the feedback and artist/song ideas. Keep them coming! I the OP was just about Dubstep, but I also really like DnB, Electro House, Techno, Trance. That's why I love Electronica! There are so many different genres and sub genres there has to be something you like.

Any chance you saw shpongle at Bisco? Shit was so bomb, lightning storm during the climax of their set, everyone going crazy. So much fun.
