I could only get the set up to work temporarily, then it failed afterward and I gave up. This was after several hours of trying
I feel your frustration.
Anyway, if you think about it, it's not that difficult to log in the old fashion way. That's my rationalization for giving up :D

So Ive got my Tormail.org account which at present cant be accessed anyway cos of some issue with Tormail itself, but Ive installed Thunderbird which can be used to manage your Tormail account. There are instrutions on how to install and set it up on the Tormail.org website itself ;

So Ive followed all the instructions step by step and its failed to work for me.
Has anyone else used Thunderbird for their Tormail?
Is it even worth the effort when you can log in through Tormail itself (when its working)?
Can anyone post me their review of Thunderbird to manage their Tormail?
I manage most my personal email through Mail on my Mac. I assume if you can setup a Tormail account in Mail it would not be safe anyway.
Thanks.
You're almost there. I'm not using Thunderbird anymore, but when I was I noticed one of the port settings had to be manually changed (9050 to 9150, as i recall). As well, I highly recommend you download the Torbirdy app from Tor as well. It installs enigmail and tweaks a few setting to ensure you are completely stealth. I know it's a pain getting started but the peace of mind is worth it once it's up and running.
