Title: I worried I'm not using PGP Keys correctly
Post by: razorboy on June 16, 2013, 01:22 pm
Hello Everyone:
I feel kind of foolish for asking this since I have already placed several orders using this method, but I need some help....I'm not much of a geek, so all I have been doing it copying and pasting the vendors public key in the address field of my order so that the address field looks like this:

John Doe
123 Any St
Somewhere, ST 12345

-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
Version: SKS 1.0.10

Te/r0oPzrr10iTFupTe/wBR0M9JbKGdY7SvooyqU+W2rf8/LldGx7KE=

-----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----

Is that doing anything to hide my address, or have I not been hiding anything?  Sorry about being clueless....
BTW, I use a different username on SR, so I don't feel completely uncomfortable about asking this here....Any help would be GREATLY appreciated....THANKS!

That is not doing anything to hide your address. Read one of the threads on using GPG in this subforum. Also that GPG key looks pretty damn small.

Thanks, my friend....I was afraid of that... :( ......And I just copied and pasted an example of a key from a google search to use for my question....I will do more research and try to learn it....Thanks again! Cheers!

The vendors must've been pretty weirded out when they received your address like that! :P Silkroad doesn't automatically PGP encrypt your address for you. Look at this tutorial : http://32yehzkk7jflf6r2.onion/gpg4usb/

Heh. I doubt the vendors care that much: it's your address, not theirs, that's vulnerable!

And don't worry: PGP only seems complicated in the beginning. Once you get the hang of it you'll wonder what took you so long. Feel free to practice with me (my Public Key is linked in my profile) if you wish!

Hey, thanks, to everyone for their input and support! The link tree sent to me is the gpg4usb tutorial....Trying to get started now....As I stated before, might take some time.....I'm a slow learner.... ???....But judging from your input, this is the way to go....Again, many thanks...It's people like you that make me happy to be a member of such a great community....That, and the drugs....Best Wishes to you guys!  :)

Hi,
I received correctly your message. About PGP or GPG, GPG is the free software version of PGP, a propietary program, but the system is the same.

So... First attempt successful! You see it is easy, huh?

If you want to try the opposite direction, give me your PGP public key and I will send you a message.

Thanks VERY much, tutupa! Looks like I'm getting the hang of it....Still working on how to export my key...It's a work in progress....Maybe I'll send it to you in the future....But I've already imported the keys of several of my favorite vendors, and that's what I needed to know how to do....Feel much better now...Thanks again, tutupa, and to everyone for the support!  Much Love to you guys!  :)
