whenever I try to encrypt my address using gpg keychain access for mac it comes back saying encryption failed no usable private key found. I followed to post on this labeled gpg... for dummies step by step. I've trying to figure it out, but can't get anywhere. Any advice would be appreciated??

I'm no where near an expert in mac, so it's hard to narrow down the problem. But it seems like you have not created a private key in which you use to decrypt a message. However you say that you are trying to encrypt your (I assume) home address, which should rule any talks about a private key (used for DEcrpytion). Assuming your setup went well this is the process.
YOUR home address is encrypted using the VENDORS public pgp key
Vendor then uses his private key to decrypt message.
Vice-versa
May not help, but I'm trying to provide clarification.

try:-

- could be you've moved the key from one mac to another, Or
- you probably just have the public key (as per prev post...) and the private key is missing.
- it would be easier to delete what key you have (your own in the list...) and create a new one, the down side of this is whoever you have been messaging with gpg
well you will have to provide them with your new key and explain whats gone on.
- unlikely to be able to read the previous messages already signed with the old keys
