Title: Learning SQL
Post by: monrovia on March 18, 2013, 09:57 pm
So I've gotten a really lucky break and a friend of the family is willing to hire me and teach me how to do some programming, and I'm probably going to be making pretty decent money compared to the not-much-higher-than minimum wage jobs I've been working since I was 15.. Its possibly not for a few months, but I want to get started learning all I can and put everything into this so I don't fuck up the opportunity. I have some pretty good personal resources around me, and someone gave me a book called "Lan Times Guide To SQL.'' Its 19 years old but apparently still provides mostly relevant information(at least the first half of it.) Despite all these resources, I was still wondering if any of you techies have any pointers/additional resources that could help me out. Thanks in advance.

Plenty of quite decent(not to mention free) tutorials a mere google search away.  Not sure what the job entails, if its web based adminning type of thing, doing a PHP/MYSQL beginners tutorial is the way to go.

There are many tutorials, w3schools have nice examples for beginners http://www.w3schools.com/
You can install XAMPP , a local server for php/mysql and experiment.
That's if you re interested in web servers anyway.
