Title: Mining rig?
Post by: thomasm13 on July 01, 2012, 01:15 pm
Anybody potentially interested in selling a small, basic maybe 5850-5870's rig? I'd pay for it to be all setup right out of the box. Let me know!

i have 2 5850's and a amd 965, been a member of slush pool for like a month, but i've only made maybe 5 dollars with both gpu's and 4 cores running nearly 24 hours a day.

Seems to be a loss considering power consumption, etc.

This is why people who make serious money from mining now:

A) Use botnets of several thousand trojan infected machines

B) Use cloud computing services which provide use of graphics cards in a farm which you can rent or get for free

Yea, I use my gaming computer for mining while I'm asleep, only get around 200Mhash/sec(GeForce), and it runs for like 6 hours per day.  Have mined with slush's pool as well as eligius(sp?), haven't made much coin. Probably losing money on electricity, but my roommate and I split the utility bill lolol.  Unless you have free electricity and a huge mining farm, the profit margins are way too low.

Wait, is this even cost effective anymore? I thought a single rig became obsolete like a year ago.

^ this pretty much sums it up. Unless you have free electricity and get the parts for your rig for free, you won't break even

That's true but you're wasting their life expectancy.

That's true about the life expectancy they do probably run at like around 79 c or so when at 100% gpu usage, but i've been running this rig here for about 3 years now. On my next build I'd like to go with maybe an i7 and a couple of 680's or something.

so you're stealing from your roommate? asshole
Lolol, I make it up to him by constantly giving him free drugs when I get new orders from SR, so it definitely balances out. :P

cosmo, you beat me to it.. I put in an order for a few things... GPU mining will be worthless soon.  Then consider that in December, the 50 bitcoin reward will halve. so, unless the value of bitcoin doubles by december, (which it might) and you dont have an asic computer, you will be out of the game..

So, if I had a gpu miner right now, I would sell it.. At least now, it still has some value, if you wait til October, only gamers will buy it..

Its pretty scary to buy into a rig and hope that they deliver and also hope that you didnt order it too late...first adopters (and receive their order first) are the ones that will make a killing..

I wonder if anyone here would invest into a asic  mining farm... Its not hard to stay anonymous, pay with coins, be paid out with coins etc. I guess the person that is outing himself would be the miner, but thats not illegal..

Check for ASIC and FPGA mining ;)
Thank me later.

You can get a machine for 30 grands, that will proccess 20Ghash/second !!!

These machines can be pre ordered and will be shipped in August. 25 units for sale they say :)
