I noticed a vendor is selling xray/vapor proof bags?? Is this even possible?
From what I can gather the only way to disguise a product thru an xray is to disguise it with something of the same material.
Like blotter you would wrap in plain paper or carbon paper if it makes you feel good. Metal eg, gun part in amongst other metal parts. Weed in amongst some potpourri or what ever.
am I missing something? because I would like to know
edit - actually hes not selling them but adding it as a service. anyway I would love to learn some vendors sneaky stealthy shipping methods:)

As an engineer in radio-electronics, I must say it isn't real, as you have suspected. Mainly because of high penetrating ability of the x-rays. Not even thick foil will stop the bag from being x-rayed through. For example same detectors used by customs also find appliance in searching for material defects in railway rails. And secondly consider this: if such bag could really be possible, do you think customs officer would stay inconspicuous looking at an absolutely opaque bag in the package of vitamine C?!
So may be that bag is really better sealed and protects from air leakage, but that x-ray story is pure bullshit.

I've heard that they don't 100% block the xrays, but they do obfuscate the contents to somehow make them look the same density. No fucking idea though, not my area.

Anything that can't be x-rayed is suspect anyhow. Raises red flags, and needs a search.

Exactly. They aren't looking for normal, they are looking for things out of the ordinary. I imagine a big opaque area in someones luggage is one of the things they are trained to look for.
The ideal way to hide something would be if you could somehow see the shape and colors of everyday items being scanned and then figure out how to make your object look the same. Although I don't see any easy way of doing that.

I asked the postal inspector about this in his thread. According to him anything that's xray proof would raise more suspicion than it was intended to prevent.
