I am relatively new here, lurked for a while and have not made any purchases but I am considering becoming a vendor.
I have read many of the scammer threads and there are scammers who continue to contact the buyers giving them BS information regarding shipping. However when a vendor just ceases all contact and stops shipping, there has to be consideration given to the suggestion that they have been busted by law enforcement.
It does not have to be related to SR directly. However the business these people operate in is illegal and at some point they will need to come into possession of the items they ship to SR buyers. Consider this Tony guy, he knows he is getting a huge 420 order list from SR, so he stocks up and in that process gets busted. He can hardly come back online and explain what has happened. I guess if the mods or DPR could check for logins or unusual activity (such as draining of an account balance) then these issues could be confirmed one way or another.
-
Be hard-pressed to see the mods or DPR do anything beside collect their commission..
-
I discussed this briefly with someone I am giving a ML consultation to on here and unless they know how to do large BTC transactions properly and try to cash out large amounts there is a high chance that given LEO know about the 420 sale that they will get busted this way.
The real risk for the top vendors on here isn't net security or even posting shit out. It's proper financial security and having real ML solutions.

This. People think bitcoin is a magic shield, but just like everything else, you need to know how to use it properly and you need to know its limitations. Many people do not.

Glad someone else understands this! :)
Having read a lot of the "Yeah you can make your BTC safe by doing this blahhhh blahhh fucking bollocks blahhhh" it's quite clear that the vast majority DON'T understand the concept of how to truly convert BTC to cash and without arousing suspicion and then launder said cash and siphon it off. Most I have seen is they know maybe one or two parts of a VAST subject and even then, not that well.

Certainly do. I didn't train in accountancy or corporate structuring not to make a living out of it mate. I give consults IRL so there is no difference here other than that I don't incorporate/set up banks for anyone here (obviously that's impossible due to anonymity) but just give them the contacts and tell them the who/what/when/why/how and then how to launder money and make sure it's tax free and never steps foot on your home jurisdiction. After that if you really want I can tell you how to re-siphon the laundered money so it enters the financial system properly and makes money on it's own merit
So yeah, you are damn right I charge a fee for that given that it will 1. keep you safe from having black transactions at the exchanges being reported to the authorities. 2. save you a fuck lot of tax by being legally tax free. 3. make you exempt from ANY kind of audit. 4. Opens up doors for you with easy access to merchant accounts and merchant IDs.
Wouldn't you charge for that? Huh? You sarcastic little cunt?

He didn't just cease all contact...like we keep saying, we ordered and pmed him over different things, and he shipped, told me he shipped, and it was only a week later, after the contest that he started 'fading away.' He was still yapping to several of us. But his 'shipping' didn't happen....right about the time he did disappear, or stuff would be beginnning to arrive...but none of it did. If Tony had totally gone quiet, and his packages arrived, that he'd sent earlier, then maybe I'd at least entertain the idea he got cracked. But nah, he quit shipping, then set his affairs in order, and calmed those of us down while he got his btc, then bailed.
He did a lot of slick moves, and a lot of moves we've seen before. All scammers seem to do a couple of things: one is to find a way to get their supporter to quiet down dissent, usually by fabracating 'scammer's and 'annoying people with their damned pm's, and then they *have* to find a way to kick everybody out of escrow, and he did that brilliantly.
We got played.

What's the chance that these 'scammers' have been arrested?
According to my time consuming calculations, 12.3%.

Mods get a commission??? I'm intrigued. How does one become a mod? How much of a commission do they get? Are there pre-reqs? Is there a minimum time investment??
This sounds like something I could do in my spare time to make a little extra drug money...
They had public job applications I'm sure plenty of feds applied for the job. http://www.disinfo.com/2012/01/silk-road-the-website-with-every-illegal-drug-imaginable-for-sale-is-hiring/
I really hope the database consultant wasn't given any access just 'consulted' even if they just gave them a tor address to log into the db.

Also, on the 'Maybe Tony got arrested!' theory of the universe. Anybody who's been on the streets for any amount of time at all, knows that this is the about the oldest dodge of ripoff artists that I know of: They take your money, tell you not to go anywhere, that they'll be right back.
They don't come back.
When next you run across them, they tell you 'I got busted, you wouldn't *believe* what happened!!!' blah blah blah.
I believed it myself, the first time or two I heard of it, a young whiteboy on the streets....then I realized it's just an old con. A way to explain them not showing up.
-
Dude I used to work for, if you told him that, he'd ask to see the paperwork. If you didn't have any he'd look it up online. You'd better fucking hope your name came up. I never had any trouble like that, but some guys did. They thought they'd just say they got popped and he wouldn't worry about the 5 grand they owed him. Shit was so stupid I used to be amazed at how some people think other people will just believe anything. I've heard some pretty creative excuses from people who fucked up their money and couldn't keep bills paid.

Oh yeah I agree with this. He definitely DID pull a con, no doubt about it now as he has been gone for too long. To clarify what I meant is that I think there is a high probability that he will get nicked whilst using the exchanges to cash out the money he has robbed.

I've wondered about that...I know you know more about money and how it moves around, but I was wondering if he moved a bunch of money at once, which I'm believing he did, could he get nailed for money-laundering. I mean, I wouldn't give anybody up to LE, but I wouldn't feel bad if something like this happened to the guy, either....he really did get us for a lot, I hate to admit...

Yes of course he could. Like I said above unless you are a complete retard the real number 1 danger for people who sell on here is the BTC-to-cash process. If you try to cash out a large sum of money after the 420 sale (which clearly 5-O would have been well aware of) they would be all over that. I would go as far to say that if the transaction was large enough or there was a large number of medium sized transactions that could be enough to put you under on LE's radar or even put you on full watch.
I dunno why people get so hyped about net security when that's the easiest problem to solve. It's the money that is the Achilles-heel, dunno how people can't see that.

I, for one, pray that Tony didn't keep any records of addresses or the like, and if not, that he gets arrested. However, for the safety of the market and all the buyers, if he did keep records? I don't care how much of a shithead he is, I still hope he doesn't get arrested, in that case.
Let him rot, as long as it doesn't effect anyone else.

Meh.. that cash is en route to, or sitting in, a bank in Antigua or somewhere sunny by now. Canada Revenue ain't nuttin ta fuck with. Why would he ever bring however many tens of thousands back onshore if he didn't need to re-up with the funds (if he ain't sending out product.. why's he need to re-up?).
Failing that.. and given that he doesn't need to have cash to re-up.. why not just leave that shit in BTC for a half year (or longer).
I'm not slamming your fiscal expertise.. just pointing out that trying to move it back onshore in cash is not necessary AT ALL.

Nah I know you aren't mate. :)
You are dead right, if he is smart that's what he will do. You just have to speculate whether he was.

I sure find this money stuff interesting. I mean, it seems, bigtime gangsters, are as often as not, caught by some money transactions as anything else. And this specific case, it wasn't until reading this thread--and the one by DaMan-- that I realized that he could be followed by his btc. And I agree with limiteless: we spend so much time on Tails and protecting ourselves *that* way, but I rarely put any effort--until this--about watching what my btc do. Thanks for the warnings, fellahs...

Yup, paper-trails is what kills the kings I'm afraid, and even if people think "it's straightforward" if sure as fuck ain't. You would think that Tony would know this dealing the amounts he did but he clearly did not. That should tell people something if even those who were "at the top" ain't taking care of their financial security and someone can track them on here...think how easy it is for the Gammon and the Ham to do it..
