I am looking to buy a pill press, My budget is $5000, I was looking at the TDP but not sure if it will make a really solid pill? Can any one tell me about how much pressure a press needs to make a really solid pill? Would a basic TDP be enough to produce good quality pills?

it all depnds on the binder/filler your going to use.
one way is to see how much pressure is need'd to press your chosen binder/filler
(if its a popular item, i dont dobut you can find the info on google in some board or just email the vendor/manufacturer)
then chose your press based on that. (aka you will get the BEST press for your $ useing the binder you chose)
personaly ive seen the results of a tdp-5 vs tdp-1 and hands down the extra 2.5KN of pressure resulted in a better product (GO FIUGRE DUHHH) but the tdp-1 still created candys that where durable enough for common use.
If mass production is your idea then stick with the tdp-5 as you'll be happyr in the long run but if your just busting out under 1k then tdp-1 is where id go.
again, realize its all about the binder in the end. some things just press better then others.
ive seen people even create homemade binders out of cornstarch, gelatin an sugar that worked PERFECTLY with a low pressure output press.
