MultiBit if you don't have time to download 9GB of shit. Bitcoin-QT if you do and want to run it behind Tor. Both are available for download from bitcoin.org

Both of these require a secure computer with no viruses or you'll get robbed, so if I were you I'd install Ubuntu or Tails and use that to do your Bitcoin dealings. Also remember to encrypt your wallet with a not a "password" but a secure pass phrase (a long sentence that only you know).

Web wallets, really? I hope you never have more bitcoins than you can afford to lose.

If that comment was directed towards me I plan to spend the bitcoins as soon as I purchase them.

Good. There have been tons of cases of Bitcoins being stolen from web wallets over the years proving that they're not a safe place to keep money. One of the biggest heists (mybitcoin.com) saw over 78,000 bitcoins lost in one hit, that would be worth almost $9M today. And people are *still* using web wallets (yes Silk Road is also a web wallet, don't keep more money than you can afford to lose in there either).

I use multibit with a strong passphrase and have been happy with it.
