Title: New User of SR and very impressed with this site. One question, though.
Post by: ginseng2000 on August 05, 2012, 03:29 am
So I am a long time user of Erowid.  I found Blue Light through  Erowid and then SR from BL.  I have setup a USB boot drive with Liberte, setup a public and private key using the built in PGA in Liberte, gotten myself a tormail email, etc.  I have setup Dwolla and mtGox accounts.  Since it's the weekend and I cannot get money into those accounts due to bank being closed,  I bought a $100 moneypak at WalMart to get my feet wet.  My only question is who is someone on here that I can trust to exchange me some BTC coins for the moneypak.  If it is someone really well known that many of you say can be trusted, I would be willing to skip escrow to prove I'm legit.

Sounds like you know what your doing, and you've got everything in control.
I can't recommend anyone personally, I do not order from the site but I browse and friends order.
Anyways, I would wish you good luck but you don't need it.
The reputable traders seem to come and go, not sure who's ideal now.

Keep an eye out for vendor's who have a forum dedicated to their reviews and repeat customers with high forum post counts.

Tough to say, I posed that same question to several vendors and didn't get a recommendation, just the same advice as Absurd's -- I messaged one vendor who said they do BTC for MP's, and even placed an order from one with a long rep, but first one didn't reply and second one disappeared for almost a week -- he did come back and fill an order from someone who had left negative feedback due to waiting for 5 days, but I had already canceled the order after it sitting for 30 hrs and no response.  Good luck, let us know if you have success, don't know if it's kosher to give out vendor names here...

I don't think anyone has had luck with exchanging lately.  There are complaints about vendors scamming.

Depending on where you live, there are a few good vendors that will do cash through the mail for Bitcoins, but I'm not certain about Moneypaks. Either way, best of luck to you, sounds like you've gotten the hang of SR pretty quickly.

Sugarmama

Her fee's are clearly stated on her site and some may think they are high, but as far as trust she's the best.  You can trust her 100%.  I would use her to exchange a MP for coins.  I have had multiple successful transactions with her.

I can help you cash that Moneypak into Bitcoins.  PM me for details.

I appreciate the offer BTC4MP but I notice you've only been registered since July 28th.  No offense is meant here but I am looking for someone with a long history of positive transactions like Sugar Mama.  I wasn't going to try her because I've read about how backed she is.  I've heard of BT Buddy but didn't see any recent posts from him.

No, I completely understand.  =)  I'm not offended in any way.  I just figured I'd offer my services.  Trying to relieve the load a little that the current vendors have to help out.  It's all good.  Just let me know if you change your mind.

Looks like BitInstant may be the way to go in the future, lots less costly than local vendors - only thing is you can't do the whole deal from the comfort of home, and you'll need the Bitcoin client and a wallet, but the tech stuff is obviously not a hurdle for you:

Good luck with that MP, would be interested in hearing how it goes, thx.

I will definitely post once I am able to make a deal (if the dealer allows).

I used to use moneypaks and have them exchanged through SR vendors, but most of my usual MP>BTC vendors have disappeared recently, so I was recently forced to try another method.

I was originally skeptical of BitInstant, because I don't like the idea of depositing money at a bank, but it was actually faster than a MoneyPak transfer.  I just went to the nearest Chase Bank with cash, filled out a deposit slip with the account number, and my BTC were in my wallet by the time I arrived at home.  I can definitely recommend BitInstant if you have a Chase Bank near you.

I don't know about the other moneypak to bitcoin traders but Freemoney filled an order for a 300 moneypak to bitcoin order the same day

Chase is working again???????!!!!!

I've been waiting for Chase deposits to start again for months now (they are open 2 hours later than BoA) but they still don't have them listed after plugging in a zipcode. Last time (about 3 months ago) I tried to 'force' it and enter the Chase address and complete the transaction, the account was restricted.

But back on topic, trusted MPC > BTC vendors are far and few between. Yes it's kosher to mention vendor names, that's what this whole section is about. SugarMama and BTCking are consistently recommended, but I've never done MPC>BTC.

Oh, and somehow no one else mentioned it, sticklers will say that this belongs in Security, but the Rumor Mill is sorta anything-goes. Good luck with your SR journey, and I'm gonna have to find out what this Blue Light is...

Worked flawlessly for me about a week ago in my area.  In and out of the bank in less than 5 minutes.

I've used the walmart option for bitinstant twice now.  I used a fake name, address, and phone number they didn't ask for an ID either

Good luck with your SR journey, and I'm gonna have to find out what this Blue Light is...

Bluelight is a website similar to the Vaults of the Erowid where people describe their experiences.  It also has drug info and news articles.

I got some $ into Dwolla and tried to transfer it with Bit Instant but it says I have to have the account open for more than 30 days before I can transfer.  There has to be an easier way to get my $ to SR.

Yea, Dwolla recently added that 30 day waiting period for newer members, iirc, which is why I'm never using dwolla again.  The way that I found to get around it was to go to the bitcointalk forums or the #bitcoin-otc irc channel and look for someone who will send you coins to your wallet in exchange for your dwolla $$.  If they have been around dwolla for awhile, there shouldn't be a 30 day waiting period to send them money into their dwolla account.

This is what I do. Moneygram's through wal mart using bitinstant. The ONLY fee you pay is 3.99% commission on the amount of money you are sending, and then the $3.95 that ZipZap Inc. charges for the moneygram. No fees from wal mart or moneygram themselves. I've done all of my deposits that way so far.
