I've been reading around the forums here and elsewhere. I've "heard" a lot of talk about controlled deliveries and stuff. I was just wondering what amount would trigger that? an ounce? a half ounce? just wondering. would they track all your packages over a period of time and just bust you on the last one?
Also, why don't we see any stories from people who have actually been busted? They have to get out of jail eventually. Doesn't anyone know of someone who got busted from SR? Is it possible no one ever has been?
And I'm not paranoid...I feel that all we can do is balance our odds with knowledge and let fate take care of the rest. I just need to better understand my parameters.

Personally I wouldn't ship more than 4-5oz's per shipment, I believe anything under 15oz gets less attention than over 15oz so do a couple qp's in separate shipments. Might want to look at spreading it out across a few addresses.

You should not worry about your previous packages with weed being intercepted. If cops discover weed they must confiscate it. Allowing packages with weed to go to destination is inaction when crime is taking place. It is similar to cops watching when psycho is killing bystanders, so when the psycho will kill dozen they can get tougher sentence for the maniac.
This depends from jurisdiction. I live in europe.
Get a safe and completely unrelated delivery address for your packages. Little brainstorming and you will get your safehouse!

I agree that 4oz is the limit if you can possibly stand it. 4oz you can claim personal possession probably reliably... 8oz (the next logical step up for a bigger discount) you'd have a lot harder time claiming that "half pound" is personal... also let local laws be a guide. If 4oz is misdemeanor and 5oz is felony, you'd be a helluva lot better off just sticking to 4...

This guy is 100% wrong at least concerning American shipments. Cops are definitely allowed to let drugs go some place to do a controlled delivery. Hell they might even give you enough time to start smoking it so it makes their case stronger. If you are a person of interest to the police any amount of drugs is enough for them to do a controlled delivery. If you are a normal person then anything over 27.9 grams is a felony and could be subject to a controlled delivery. If you get a controlled delivery depends on what LE make the final decision. If you only had an OZ then the DEA wouldn't care but lets say they notified your local police and you live in a small town. The local police may choose to conduct a controlled delivery since its a small town and they dont have much to do. You are safest in a large city where even the local police are very busy. You are most at risk in an area where the local police has firm control over the area they are policing. If a police agency has firm control that means they don't have much to do and they are over-zealous in their attempts to curtail crime in their area.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "normal person then anything over 27.9 grams is a felony". For federal charges, I don't think certain weight limits apply legally, at least that's what I gather from NORML's info pages. And state laws of misdemeanor vs felony vary. IIRC, some states allow up to 8oz before calling it a felony.
And I think you're overestimating the resources federal DEA have in busting someone. I would have ALOT of trouble believing the DEA did a cooperation with local police (small town or not) over a controlled delivery of 1oz. Just not gonna happen.

Anything over 27.9 grams would be rounded up to 28 grams making it a felony under federal guidelines. When I say a normal person I mean someone who is not a person of interest to the police. As I said before any amount is enough to do a controlled delivery if you are a person of interest to the police. Also, any time a controlled delivery is conducted the local police are notified and they often take part in the delivery. The agency that finds the drugs has the option of who to notify. They could choose to notify the local police, the state police, or whatever federal agency they thought was relevant. The DEA would not become involved in the investigation unless the amount was large enough to interest them. However, any drug amount that is a felony does risk the local policy being notified. Once the local police are notified it would be up to them if they choose to do a controlled delivery or if they agree with the other agencies involved and simply allow the package to be seized.

I dont know about you but I read the "DEA Narcotics Police Training Investigator Manual, 2011 edition." Within this manual it outlines how a DEA special agent should react to situations similar to the one above. I used the information directly out of the training manual to come to the conclusions that I did within my post. I understand that not many people invest the time to study their enemy the way I have so not many people understand how the DEA operates as well as I do.
**On another note I have a digital copy of both the "DEA Narcotics Police Training Investigator Manual,2011 edition" and the 2009 edition of the standard FBI training manual. I was thinking about posting them under a vendor account for sale but I don't know if their would be much interest, since I would charge at least $20. I would go cheaper but I had to work hard to get ahold of these manuals and I had to pay more than $20.

Well, where I live an oz is a felony and anything under that is a misdemeanor. I was wondering if they would include past deliveries in the felony amount. Everything I order is for personal use, I don't sell to anyone.
Also, does anyone actually KNOW of anyone who got busted using SR?

Well I must guess the USA laws are fucked up more than I expected. I'm happy I live on opposite side of globe. For me kilo of weed is the same as 1 gram.
The quantity itself is no proof of anything. You never ordered any package with drugs and keep your mouth closed no matter what pigs say.

The response of your local LE will certainly be different from one place to the next. You'd think that just a small amount of weed wouldn't give the local police much incentive to start an investigation, but you never know.
Also, there's one other thing you didn't take into account: shipping narcotics through the US mail is a crime in itself, regardless of the amount. It might be different in other countries but here in the US I think it's probably a felony.

It is funny how different local LE could mean the difference between a controlled delivery but it is 100% true. Now shipping drugs is a crime in itself BUT the receiver did not ship the drugs nor have anything to do with the shipping. Therefore a shipper will never be convicted of shipping drugs or any crime associated with such an offense.

i personally don't know or have any experience with this, but according to the 'i'm a postal worker, ask me anything' thread, any contraband found in the mail is replaced by an inert substance that looks similar for a controlled delivery.
Receiving inert substance cannot be a crime either, right? Now you are double innocent - you neither ordered drugs to your address and you received inert substance. You are almost a catholic saint now.
Best advice no matter where you live - don't talk anything and request lawyer.

I would definitely be interested in something like that.
As to the main subject of the thread - I do know someone who was busted with a controlled delivery. It was not a Silk Road order, this was before SR was in existence.
The LEOs doing the delivery were part of the local city police force. The DEA did not appear to be directly involved.
It occurred after an order went missing and the seller re-shipped.
There were many, many mistakes made along the way that could have prevented this from occurring though. The BIGGEST mistake - using Fedex/UPS to ship, instead of USPS. The person receiving the shipment never signed for any package at all.
In my opinion, when a large order like that shows up empty, and you know the seller is legit, you should never, ever have them reship to the same address. You are almost definitely red flagged and will have your mail being inspected very closely.
Also, this post makes a very important point:

Yes, shipping (or receiving) a controlled substance through US mail is absolutely a felony. In that regard, the quantity and schedule of the substance will only make you look worse, and add charges to your case - if it is an amount that is obviously intended for redistribution, for example, you are looking at a much, much more serious punishment, should you be convicted.
In any case, no matter the amount involved, the crime is AT LEAST a felony.
