Title: What is the proper etiquette for not recieving my purchase?
Post by: ultrageist on December 01, 2011, 05:59 am
Second purchase from a reputable seller, so I doubt he/she is ripping me off.  It seems the only 2 options I have are:
1. try to get my money back and suffer the rep damage along with burning bridge with a reputable seller.
2. take my losts and warn the seller about potential interception.

Are there a third or a fourth option? What would you do? (love to hear what sellers think)

on side note: should I keep a low profile for awhile before making another purchase?

First, give it more time before freaking out.
Second, do they have a DCN ?

The problems with me receiving a package has never had anything to do with the vendor or the post office, but stupid people that accidentally grab your mail, so you miss it.  Or there is a problem with the mailbox not being properly fixated, so they wouldn't deliver the mail (Yea, if they only knew how much shit they had piled up at the post office just sitting there).

I go on high alert each time, but maintain normal activities.

where are you shipping from and to? how long has it been? have you been in touch with the seller?
I've had packages take 10 days EU to UK which is just long enough to make me worry.
In any situation, I'd wait 7 working days before messaging.

Chill and contact the vendor if you think it's been a long time.
I recently received an order that was a MONTH getting here, from a VERY reputable vendor.
I messaged him about a week after I expected it a question about the packaging, as I feared I had missed the mailman due to a technical error on my part.  He didn't answer me, but I waited another two weeks.  I knew he was going to be gone for Thanksgiving, and decided to wait until Monday.  Well it arrived that Friday and I didn't have to contact them again.
I didn't raise a stink because the vendor doesn't normally DO international, so I figured he was doing me a favour.  I can get the same order from europe with only a 6-day wait... but this stuff was/is special.

So I guess you have to weigh the time vs the distance and determine if the money you spent was worth that wait.  Of course, if you don't get the product at all, then you've got to take it up with the vendor.  Once that avenue is exhausted, you can reflect on that experience in your feedback.

Use the resolution center. It's the link underneath 'finalize' on your order page.

Make sure you're not doing any stupid like using a fake/misspelled name or shipping to a vacant address.

Good venders should use DCN# for situations like this.

Thanks all -- not freaking out yet, just want to prep myself before deciding what to do

Both Vendor and I are in a neighboring county in the Northeast and are within 15 mi (24 km) of each other so normally I get it within 2 days of purchase (same state). Since Thanksgiving was last week I figure 4 extra days would be normal. My current plan is to give him/her 2weeks before asking him (could encounter problem after he click the 'in transit' button).

Currently I am fine as long as Vendor is ok and LE are not involved. It's just a pain to wait for dwolla.

You haven't PM'd the vendor yet? Just send a short polite message and ask what's up.

Just send the guy a short message, he shouldn't bite. You certainly don't need to choose between your options 1. and 2. He'll likely offer offer a refund, full or partial, or a reship (free or for a small fee), or both. In the end you should be both happy.
