Title: Tor Hidden Services Ripoff Reports
Post by: ingloriouslibertine on August 18, 2013, 06:46 pm
Hello again newbie forum! Got a non-Road related question and figure this is the best forum for it.

Does anybody know anything about the non SR/BMR/ATL TOR hidden services?  I want to check out some of the goods/services available on TOR but haven't ventured anywhere else but the Road.  I know better than to go drop a bunch of coin on a link from the hidden wiki, but don't know where to  find reliable information on which sites are a scam and which are legit.  I guess I'm looking for an actively-updated list of services or some quality forums I can check before blindly sending my BTC to god knows who and hoping to receive something in return.

Any info/insight is appreciated!

You can find links to a number of so-called independent vendors on the hidden wiki.  I felt tempted at one time to order from Eris, because I do have a thing for the goddess of Discord.  But the brass tacks of the situation is that these vendors do not offer the great services afforded by the marketplaces.  There's no escrow.  There's no reliable ratings system.  It has been said that Silk Road doesn't sell drugs.  Silk Road sells security and insurance.  These vendors that distance themselves from the marketplaces give you no kind of guarantee that they are not scammers, honeypots, LE, whatever.  There are plenty of great uses for Tor, like anonymous browsing and corresponding.  But if you're on Tor for goods, I say stick to the marketplaces.
