Title: Canada Customs Tape
Post by: roadie33 on May 02, 2012, 02:00 am
Someone recieved an order today very overdue, to Canada, from overseas.  It was an envelope (think b-day card), hand written address, personal return address; pretty dumb (first order this buyer made from this vendor was packed ingeniously, much better than this).  Contents were relatively well obscured, but it obviously could be felt that something other than paper was inside (small pills).

Envelope arrived in an unattended residential mailbox, no signature, nothing out of the ordinary, except it had yellow "opened by canada customs" tape across the top.  Upon further inspection it appeared the envelope had indeed been slit open across the top and re sealed with the customs tape.  It was difficult to tell if the contents had been removed, and did not appear as though the interior packaging had been opened.  Full order was present, no signs of any being taken for testing.

Now this buyer is freaking out a bit.  The only thing we can imagine is that it was cut open but never really checked, seems the most plausible explanation.

Why would the contents not be confiscated and why would they so obviously advertise they had opened it if they knew what the contents were?  If not delivered in a controlled manner, or with signature, would customs not then be traficking themselves?

It happens.  Probably more than you think.  If they don't see something right away, and what they do see looks OK, they just tape it up and send it along.  Who knows, maybe they just couldn't be bothered with a few pills, assuming they saw them.

Obviously there is always the chance they flagged the address, but honestly, they were more likely to seize it then bother flagging it if the amount was that small.

Depends on how paranoid the guy is.  He could order something else and see what happens.  If he gets caught he just claims he had nothing to do with it, someone must be trying to screw him or they have the wrong name and address.  They cannot do anything about the stuff they let him keep already because they have to actually catch him in the act, or at the least with the goods in his possession all he has to say is he got the envelope, it wasn't something he new about, and three the stuff away.

They do this sometimes. Slice open the top and stick a hook in to fish around for anything that falls out. Maybe they sliced it and went on break, came back and did it back up again without ever looking. Who knows, he already has it and if it was just personal amounts they would've confiscated and sent a letter. Can Customs doesn't give a shit about tiny amounts
