Title: drug testing questions
Post by: qrbr6 on February 04, 2013, 04:50 pm
Firstly, what kind of jobs require you to take a drug test before starting and what kind of jobs require you to continue to take drug tests? This can vary from country to country, I'm specifically concerned with Australia but it will be similar for all countries so everyone is welcome to answer.

Secondly, what drugs are tested? I'm guessing weed, amphetamines, MDMA, etc, but what of LSD or obscure RCs? What can show up?

Thanks for your time everyone, really appreciate the vibrant and helping community we have here

The most common pre-employment tests, unless they've changed recently (in USA) are:

Five-Panel Drug Test

Most employers request a standard drug screen, which tests for the five most common street drugs. The five-panel test screens for signs of marijuana, cocaine, phencyclidine, amphetamines and opiates. Amphetamines include illegal drugs such as methamphetamines, speed, crank and ecstasy. Opiates include heroin, opium and codeine. The test also screens for crack cocaine and the marijuana byproduct hash. Phencyclidine refers to PCP, also known as angel dust.

Ten-Panel Drug Test

The 10-panel test screens for the five most common types of drugs and five additional drugs. A 10-panel test also detects barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone, methaqualone and propoxphene. Barbiturates include phenobarbital, butalbital and downers. Benzodiazepines include Valium, Librium and Xanax. Methaqualone refers to the illegal drug known as quaaludes. Propozphene refers to Darvon. Doctors use methadone to treat individuals addicted to heroin.

Never had a job that included random or any further testing after day 1, though I understand the casino industry, cash handlers, government, type jobs have to deal with ongoing tests.
