Title: should i be concerned? weird shit by mail carrier
Post by: shouldIworry? on February 07, 2012, 10:32 pm
So I live in an apartment complex and we have received various pacakages /mail no problem for 2 years. We were expecting to potentially receive something today that was ordered yesterday with overnight delivery. We go to check the mail today and all that's in there is a card from our post office saying "delivery will not start until this card is filled out and returned" and it has spaces to list the names receiving mail here,as if our apt was vacant. We check the mail regularly so I don't see why this happened. I'm the tiniest bit sketched out about it. I mean we are in the midst of moving, but haven't put in for a change of address or anything like that. My question is- should I be concerned at all? Theories, thoughts, experiences anyone? As of now my plan is to go into the post office when the carrier gets in from his route later today (I called to find out when and inquire about the situation and the guy seemed to think it was unusual and had no possible explanation
Ok it just got weirder. Checked
the new mailbox same apt complex and mail addressed to the old (current) box is in there. Needless to say,no package. So now I am sketched cuz we NEVER put in a change of address. How the fuck would the mailman just know and be so courteous??

This is just pure speculation here but I would not worry if I were you. If they had screened the package and found illegal items and then decided they wanted to arrest you why would they do anything other than a controlled delivery? This seems like normal post office beuracratic bullshit but then again I've never heard of this happening so for all I know it you'll be in jail in the next 24-48 hours... seems very unlikely though.

If this has never happened before in 2 years, I would most DEFINITELY cut my losses.
Not great with laws and stuff but surely replying is basically admitting ownership?

Is it worth the risk? May I ask what the package is?

If you have received mail before in that box then cut your losses, imho.

You're fine. This exact same thing happened to me a few times during a decade span where I was bouncing from apartment complex to apartment complex. This is a pretty standard occurrence and Losty described it exactly.

It does not sound like they are asking you to take ownership of a package (Especially one you never ordered ;)).  There is nothing abnormal about providing a correct list of who received mail there.  Just hope you used your real name....this is a good example on why you should use a correct name for the receiving address.
