Bitcoins are rising in value due to increased demand for them and Bitcoins are not controlled by a central bank that prints more money and adds them into the monetary system and therefore devalues the currency.

"Bitcoins are rising in value due to increased demand for them and Bitcoins are not controlled by a central bank that prints more money and adds them into the monetary system and therefore devalues the currency."

That, and the fact you can buy drugs with them.

You still can. When it's trading at $60 a month from now you'll be saying the same thing.

True, I'm just watching the rate right now, I plan on trying to stock up but still just wish I would have gotten them when they were freaking $4 a piece.  :-\

Bitcoins can only go up in value!  Unless the Feds make them illegal or shut down the web or sabotage the Genius Bitcoin monetary system.
Why have so many Bitcoin web sites lately been plagued with bug problems?  Hmm makes a guy wonder about that....

There's always a slow salesmonth in January + Feb, so now people are buying again and the prices rise!

Bitcoins are trading more like a commodity right now; as in supply vs demand.  As more people learn about the "value" of the BTC there is an explosion in the demand and a fixed supply meaning a jump in price.  Once something goes wrong (like maybe a person/corporation with a lot of money slowly buying up millions of $$ in BTC's then dumping them on the market to make quick money) then you may see the price drop by factors of 10 as loads of BTC's hit the market.  The good news is that many of the vendors on SR base their prices on local currency (now: 1g H = 8.8 BTC = $300 6mos ago: 1g H = 75 BTC = $300).

The best example that I can thing of is the apparent "explosion" in gold prices.  The problem is that Gold has been worth the same amount for hundreds of years.  For example If I went to a tailor in NYC and bought a top of the line custom suit in 1850 it may have cost me ~$20.00, but that was when when Gold was trading at ~$10/oz.  If I go to NYC today and buy a custom suit it may cost me $4000.00 but now Gold is trading at $2000/oz.  Even though the cost of the suit seems to have increased quite a bit it actually hasn't changed at all.

FYI FUCK the FED (Federal Reserve)!

Since I know the value of Bitcoins can only rise in value over the long run I have decided to invest in Bitcoins and buy 10 Bitcoins every day until I spend $5000 dollars on my credit card,  lol...

I have found Coinbase.com is the most convenient and cheapest way to purchase and transfer Bitcoins right from your home computer.  But it takes a few days to link your bank account.  The customer service is polite and courteous. and very helpful too.  Also the account is easy to open, you don't have to tell them your life story....lol

As long as I can buy coins and sell them faster than a major market change and sellers readjust, then I don't really care. Because I don't invest.

Fuck anything that requires linking to bank accounts unless you like leaving digital trails.

Bitfloor seems like the best option available so long as you've got a bank of america close by. Just like making a bank deposit and it'll be in your account instantly. No ID requirements. You can even use them from TOR.

Most importantly, they're dirt cheap.  I haven't found anyone that comes close to their rates.

I honestly don't know what to think about this. I have only a couple of hundred dollars in bitcoin, and it's nice to see them going up -- future drugs will cost less! -- but eventually there will be a crash, or local governments will clamp down and either extinguish bitcoin, or put on so many restrictions that it's unusable.

It's all supply and demand. Lately, if I've got spare cash, I've been deliberately buying a bit more BTC than I need when making my orders knowing that any excess I have left over will have increased in value by the time I go to make my subsequent order.

Bitcoins will continue to rise in value until SR encounters some form of problem. I have to imagine that the majority of the driving force of bitcoin prices is SR, as SR becomes more popular/well known prices increase. If in some nightmarish circumstance SR is completely compromised, I wouldn't be surprised to see bitcoin prices drop to the $5 mark like they were a while ago.

It´s all about the drugs for me. While btc keeps rising, prices at sr drops. So, idc about. I make money drug dealing, not saving BTCs.

That's the whole reason I switched from bitinstant to bitfloor. The last two times I used bitinstant I had nothing but problems. Then I tried bitfloor and couldn't believe how little they charged me in comparison. Fuck using bitinstant ever again. They seem to have really convenient server stalls just when btc is skyrocketing so they make all the interest while holding your coin.

The major problem is that the only bank where you can make direct $$ deposits is BOA (nearly a hundred miles to nearest branch).  Otherwise you need to make a Bank Wire xfer, which has proven to be a pain in the ass.

Ah, the good ole' risk/reward phenomenon. I really, really want to put all my money into BTC just to have it grow...but I think BTC as an investment is too risky for me. I like having that little bit of money.
