Title: Tor Hidden Services
Post by: goblin on March 22, 2012, 12:49 am
OK, I've been looking into the so-called dark internet, deep web, whatever you want to call it, the hidden net that is at least a couple of orders of magnitude larger than the regular web in amount of information. Some of it Dangerous information.

Anyway, a couiple of places have tips on setting up your firefox to be able to access it, like the hidden wiki. They say something like change your browser to http proxy at localhost port 8118, and so on.

But when I tried this, I found that my tor button toggled off instantly. This obviously means I'm no longer in Tor. But you have to be in Tor to access these and other hidden services. I don't get it then. Could these directions be wrong? How do you prevent the torbutton from being turned off? I'm still very inexperienced in these techie practices, so any help would be awesome.

Thanks.

By posting on this site, you're posting on the 'darknet'. You don't have to do any configuration past what you already have to connect to other hidden services.

Just to clarify:
Darknet: private encrypted network like TOR
Deepweb: websites that cant be accessed through public search engines like dynamically generated content.

^ This. It's a distinction that seems lost on 98%...

memCheck, so you say that that deepweb is different than the darknet in that you have to modify those browser settings to access it? I'm just thrown by a loop by that website that said you had to do it and that made my torbutton toggle off. Thanks.
