Title: How to save GPG/PGP key?
Post by: Nellion on October 21, 2012, 05:17 pm
Hi,

I have installed Liberte on my flash drive and am trying to get myself familiarized with the process.

However, I am a bit confused on how to save the keys (with a word editor?, what file type?) and what exactly to save as far as the key block.

For example, in the following block, where would I start and end the copy/paste:

-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
Version: GnuPG v2.0.17 (MingW32)

Ok, I figured it out for me, but I am using Liberte on a flash drive, which uses Gnu Privacy Gaurd.

All I did was open gedit and copy/paste to the ----BEGIN BLOCK---- to ----END BLOCK---- lines, saved the file and imported and worked.

Now that I have that figured out- what is the protocol for using GPG when placing orders? Do I just import their public key and encrypt a message w/ my address and paste the encrypted message along with my private key into the address box?

yea you encrypt the message to the person your sending it too with there PUBLIC key and they unlock and read the message with there PRIVATE key.

Do NOT share your private key with anyone. Give them your public key.

To message people, you need their public key. For them to message you, they need your public key. Private keys are kept private.

Apart from that, you got it right (important difference though). You encrypt your address with the public key of the vendor. Then you paste it in the address box. You can also put your public key in that same encrypted message.
