Title: PGP Email... Safe to use a legit email?
Post by: jaroftime on August 05, 2013, 09:57 pm
I assume I can use one of my email addresses when creating my PGP keys as no one but me can see the contents.

However, it is a link to my SR username and one of my email addys.

So I guess my question has two parts:

1.  Can I use an email I am associated with?

2. And if not, how best to create an email for PGP use?

You can, but don't! As you said, it will be linked- if anyone imports your public key they will see your e-mail.

You don't actually need to put an actual e-mail in most programs, when creating your keys.

Thanks, Tiger.

Clarification:
You mean I can use a fake email, or most programs require none at all?

Probably depends, I left the field blank but putting the @ symbol in with some letters either side should probably do it.
