I have message 6 vendors to inquire about availability of advertised product. I am not getting any replies.
I feel like I have been black balled or something. Maybe just a string of bad luck. I try to be courteous
and explain myself.
Is it considered bad form to contact a vendor prior to making an order?
-
Actually, I think it is good form to send a message before ordering. Especially if you are new. Is this your first purchase? If not, what are your stats? What s the product and how long has it been since you sent messages?
-
I only have 2 orders so far and both went well. I finalized moments after receiving the package.
My stats are good but I just don't have much...
I will just wait patiently. One vendor that I messaged took his listing down after I msg'd him. So maybe that is my answer.

Generally, a rule of thumb is to give at least 24 hours for a response and perhaps more. A couple of things could be happening:
1) Holidays and vendors are taking a break (my vendor is)
2) Holidays and vendors are swamped or selling out
3) You are at the bottom of the totem pole being new
It's pretty much unlikely that you are blackballed if you have good stats (even if it's only a couple purchases)
-
Some vendors are on break right now and will be until January.
The other thing to consider is are you messaging the vendors in PGP? If so sometimes it will take longer to get a response. And on the flipside some vendors won't respond to unencrypted messages so be sure to read the vendors profile page.
Trust me though no one is blackballing you, vendors are here to service customers and make money they're not going to cut you off unless you're a dick or have terrible stats.

Good form if you're making contact with the vendor for the first time. As in life...

I've always messaged first.
Just dont encrypt every message. General enquiries are fine, juicy details are best encrypted. ;)
