Title: Need DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) for insecticide; can't find anywhere
Post by: johngalt324 on December 09, 2012, 04:37 pm
I would like to purchase several gallons of DDT for home insecticide use in the United States. It is banned here as in most countries. It is legal and found easily in India and North Korea. If someone in India could setup a way to ship it to me in the United States it is the easiest money you'll ever make. You just go to your local hardware store, buy some, repackage and ship it.

Alternatively, if a chemist anywhere else (preferably in the United States) can brew a batch, it's supposedly relatively easy. I can post a recipe.

There reason that it is banned is because it is REALLY bad for the environment. EDIT: at least so I have been told

For what type of plants do you need it? Maybe there is a better alternative...

Good luck finding some. One of the best scams of all time was the fear-mongering over DDT and bird's eggs. Millions of people have died from malaria needlessly over bogus concerns about side effects.

I'd suggest you contact the vendor uhrwerk, he's pretty good at getting all sort of chemicals and DDT isn't so hard to get if you have access to chemical supply house.
Alternatively you can just buy potassium cyanide from emerald, put some concentrated sulfuric acid in a big glass beaker, drop the cyanide in it and then get out of the house, it will produce hydrogen cyanide. Everything in the house will die.

LightofPi - I disagree with you on the environmental impact of DDT. My reason for wanting some is I have a tick/mosquito problem on my property. Try being high on drugs and finding a tick on you that then skitters up into your clothes and vanishes. Not a happy buzz ;-)

Tree - thanks for the advice, though I think I will ignore your alternate solution...

DDT was responsible for the killings and endangerment of Bald Eagles. Please seek other types of insecticide please. DDT does work, but if you must use it, please do not use it when it is about to rain, or near rivers or streams!

DDT's ability to destroy mosquitoes and bedbugs is legendary. 500 million lives would have been saved from malaria if DDT were not under a ban in most countries.

Over time with enough usage, DDT can disrupt your hormones and metabolism and also cause cancer. The government sprayed it with reckless abandon in the 50's- especially on young kids. It did hurt a lot of birds because of the huge volume that government was using for "public health".

In responsible, individual hands DDT can work wonders and singlehandedly get rid of the bedbug epidemic. West Nile Virus? Dead.

The pesticides that have replaced DDT are far FAR more dangerous and are very close to killing off most of North America's honeybee population. Your well meaning government at work again to protect public health.

DDT is EXACTLY the type of thing that should be available on SR. Hopefully that happens real soon.

I've wanted some Zyklon-B and some ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel lately...

Anyone?
