Title: Australians must read
Post by: breathe on May 18, 2012, 04:01 am
http://www.crimecommission.gov.au/publications/illicit-drug-data-reports/2010-11/index/amphetamine-type-stimulants

Talks about importing statistics for various amphetamines in australia. Very interesting read. In 2010-11, there were around 110 border siezures of MDMA total, with 90% coming from "parcel post" and only 0.9% from air cargo - do letters fall into "parcel post" or air cargo I wonder?

Good post. Yeah I don't think letters do, all my parcels have been inspected by customs, even from US and UK but I've never had a letter opened.

Yeah letters are never inspected as there is just no time to go through them all. BUT saying this i am sure now there are regions where customs would have been advised to check.

Only 110 detections of mdma per year for the whole of Australia! So there is really practically no chance of your mdma being caught at the border. That's only two seizures per week!

Am I missing something??

Obviously they lie just as much about how tight the borders are, as they do about how bad the drugs themselves are...

Just running on a slightly different tangent but it's the same as the figures they give you from festivals about how many they catch with drugs.. They usually have a report of about 40 or so that they catch with the dogs. But out of the 10,000 that probably have drugs with them that's a relatively small percentage.

It's all just useless figures and luck of the draw.. Like gambling but with consequences that get slightly worse the higher you bet.

I think this is actually a good statistic. 2 seizures a week, where with limited resources going to the areas of highest probability and higher proportion for bulk seizures.....just confirms buying small qtys online is the safest way to buy!

So the question we should ask ourselves: are people in Aus losing packages due to a) seizures b) corrupt posties c) scamming vendors or d) scamming buyers? I'm sure all four happen, but I wonder which is the most frequent? Just going by the statistics it seems there aren't as many seizures as we thought...

or e) customs/postal officers who can't be bothered with paperwork.

Good question.
