Title: Do not order printed postage through email.
Post by: Jack N Hoff on June 01, 2013, 09:42 pm
I didn't know whether to put this in security or shipping because it has to do with both but in general this is a huge security concern.  It has come to my attention that a user(s) of this forum has been sending a URL to a service that offers to print postage and email it to you in return for bitcoins in private messages here.  This is not safe and quite frankly it sounds like law enforcement to me.  I can not think of a legitimate legal use for a such a service and it is very dangerous for you and your customers for you to be using a service like this.  A user has already informed me that they are using this service...

This is from said website

Hi and Welcome to [removed], a bitcoin-based shipping label provider, available from USPS for domestic and international flat rate packages. This is relatively simple, you fill out an ordersheet with your shipping information, pay with bitcoins, and receive your shipping labels in your inbox. The ordersheet does all the calculations for you, so no boring math, and i do all the processing so no tedious one-at-a-time ordering and customs forms to fill out. For now im doing this all manually, so orders placed during the day will be processed by the end of the night. All profits will be put towards making this instantaneous, so please support the bitcoin community by supporting my bitcoin business.

hey i saw that you said tracking with 400 labels wasnt working, i found a site that lets you buy shipping with bitcoin, XXXXXXXXX.com, which would give you real tracking, just a headsup if youre tired of the old way, just dont drop it on the forums cause if this goes down its back to shitty stamps and 400's.

He has sent that to several users.  These are all private messages.

ive been lookin at stampbit.com but i'd like to check out all my options before i drop the hammer.

yeah that was part of the reason ive started using stampbit, all it takes is one traced package and everything in the account is compromised. I figured stampbit kinda works like a proxy/exitnode/mixer, since this is all running out of one guys account then everyones shit gets mixed together so even if they tag one package they dont know what other packages it connects to short of the return address, he doesnt require accounts or any bullshit you just email him so what ive done is just create a new email whenever i want to switch up ids.

has railroadbill PM'd you about this [website name removed] business? I don't know what to make of it. Frankly, due to the way that individual carries himself on the forums, I am less inclined to go to any link he would offer. But if you could corroborate its merit please message me back with what you know about it.

I honestly would not be surprised if he was LE. The PM sounds sort of like an advertisement that he is just mailing to a lot of people. I have no affiliation with him (and neither do you, I think), so it does not make sense he would send me such a thing unless he had some motive for wanting me and others to use it. The only motive I can think of is either he's LE or trying to start his own business. Either way I'd never trust him with my personal info, and no one else with an intelligent mind will either.

Are you dense?  This is nothing like TOR postage or anonymous or anything.  You are giving a STRANGER your CUSTOMER'S ADDRESSES so that he can print postage and email them to you.  What the FUCK?  Do you know anything about STALE LABELS?  Get a clue Bill!

It doesn't fucking matter.  Do you know what a stale label is?  You better get that shit posted the exact right day or it will be returned to the return address.  This whole reeks of bacon!

FUCKING JAILBAIT!  :o

Good if someone is stupid enough to do something like that then they need to go anyways. Less stupid people higher chances of it staying a float.

Well look at it this way it's just weeding out the bad vendors so over time the only vendors left here are the ones that are smart security wise. It's the way it should be. Survival of the strongest or in this case the smartest. I'm not if what you posted was perpetuated by LE however if I was a vendor would risk my freedom in the name of convenience? I haven't been on SR for that very long but I can tell the Pro vendors from the ones that don't give a fuck and steer clear. As a customer you should make your own discretion and how responsible a vendor is. Not trying to downplay the topic but if customers stick with well established reputable vendors than it's just that much more secure for you. You might pay a bit more but there's a reason for that. Sorry if I didn't elaborate more in my first post.

That's my point exactly. If it's such common knowledge then you think a 'smart' vendor would know better than to do something outrageously stupid and I'm sure there's vendors that did use that service. I'm not hating at the OP it's good to share things like that. I've just dealt with way too many shitty vendors and had my share of bad experiences with them that know I deal with only 2 ever.
