Go to bitinstant.
Deposit cash at a location
Fill out moneygram properly.
Send to Mt.Gox.
Wait Patiently
Send to other wallets.
Send to Silk Road.
Order
Use
Enjoy

Just try and read everything about Bitcoins, Encryption. There are a lot of links stickied. I'm as newb too but just read and practice and you'll start getting the hang of it

getting BTC to SR you click the account link and they give you your SR coin address to send coins to.

I use BTCquick, coinbase, and blockchain as a wallet.

is bitinstant safe considering you have to use mtgox?

i used bitinstant at first using moneygram.  The total anonymity was nice.  But from what I hear bitinstant is fucked right now.  There are some similar services like blue sky traders and bitfloor, cant speak about them personally.  i just started using coinbase, its much more convenient.  Yes you have to link a bank account, but realistically if you are not making huge transactions you should be fine.  with that being said paranoia still hits me at times, so i may start using BSK or bitfloor in the future, but dont need any more BTC for now.

Ill just say that even tho I wanted someone to tell me the quick way of getting started, this is your personal freedom you are risking here.  Its in yours (and everybody elses) best interest to do the work and read up.  Taking our "cliffs notes" answers as gospel is not a good move.

Thanks. So the best advice is to keep it underground.

I think its really just for peace of mind.  But that counts for  a lot.  So yeah if theres an anonymous option its the better one.

At first I did the following;
First I used BitInstant, transfer to MtGox, then to SR
Pretty fast process but a lot of fees involved
Now I use BitFloor. Go to the local Bank of America, make a deposit w/ no ID, the fee is low and while your money is sitting in BitFloor you can actually make up for that fee and some.
Transfer from there to SR. I get a new address every time.
