Title: Question about Silk Road Fees
Post by: watertiger on September 20, 2011, 02:02 pm
As a newbie buyer who's made just a handful of purchases here, I didn't even realize at first that buyers pay a fee to Silk Road in addition to the price quoted by sellers. I'm not complaining about the fee (I guess it makes sense), but am wondering how it works.

For example, I just purchased a custom order from a highly rated seller who I trust. We agreed on a price of $500, but when I actually added the item to my shopping cart and confirmed the order, I was charged just over $595 (92.95 bitcoins at a time when the bitcoin was worth $6.4). It was when i asked the seller about it and he told me it was a Silk Road fee that I first realized such a thing got charged.

Apologies if the process is spelled out somewhere on the site, but I haven't seen it. Can anyone shed light on just how it works and how the fees are calculated?

SR fee is 6,23%
Do not display price in usd as value is calculated average and can be a bit higher then actual btc/usd rate.
Discuss a price in btc, on top of that 6,23% is added what buyer is charged.
