I cannot for the life of me get a working, bootable TAILS usb stick (yes I know there's a tutorial here). Most of the tutorial is for windows users, but I run Linux on my laptop, so most of that doesn't apply to me.
I've tried running Windows 8 in a VM and following the instructions using the universal installer, but the thumb drive wouldn't boot.
I've also tried just using the dd command to create a bootable stick in the terminal. No go there either.
Finally, I've tried running TAILS in virtualbox and using its own usb installer. Unfortunately, TAILS can't detect any of my usb ports. Before anyone says anything, I know how to enable usb port filters in virtualbox; They work fine in both Windows 8 and Ubuntu in a VM. TAILS is the only VM that can't access my usb ports.
What the fuck am I doing wrong? I can do this with just about any other Linux distro, but TAILS is killing me.

I hate bumping my own thread (not my intention).
I just wanted to make clear that I'm not looking for tech support here. I don't need someone to hold my hand through the process. I'm just wondering if anyone else had trouble creating a bootable usb? And if anyone has been successful, what OS did you use to create it? That's all.
