Title: $25 physician consultation
Post by: mdpro on May 03, 2013, 04:59 am
Do you have a medical question?  Do you need advice on how to treat symptoms you are experiencing?  Don't have the time or money or insurance to see a physician in their office?  You can get inexpensive access to a US licensed physician for your medical needs!

Why would a *licensed* US physician waste their precious time here giving consultations that they know damn well are useless at the end of the day?

To help support an expensive drug habit, maybe... but there's a real moral dilemma there that pretty much comes back full circle to the original question.

Do enlighten me if I'm wrong "doctor" (how and why. and why this service is not useless)

If he can write scripts it is worth it.

Can you doctor? I am out of fentanyl patches. My workers comp covers them from my pain doc. My regular insurance will cover up to ten a month aside from workers comp.

No, he can't. There. I've performed your consultation for him free of charge.

Note the intentional wording. Need *advice*? Have a *question*? Nowhere does it indicate a willingness to write a script. And if he were to offer that, he wouldn't have that license for very long. Bet on it.

Of course he can't. My point is that the $25 consultation is bullshit. I can read webmd based on the symptoms you have told me and give you advice because I am a doctor.

He can write prescriptions, he just won't.  There are several reasons.  One is that technically, he should have a chart on someone if he is going to write them prescriptions.  It is considered a violation of ethical prescribing practices and would put his license in jeopardy.  Another is that both he and the client would then lose anonymity.  Yet another is that it would flag him with the bodies that oversee prescription writing of controlled substances.  Yes folks, he is not interested in risking his license, his DEA number, or getting time in jail.  If you think it's a scam, don't but the listing.  It's simply a service being offered for folks who have limited or no access to doctors for whatever reason who need access to one.  He is far more knowledgeable than some asshole reading webmd and agreed to do this because he spent most of his life without access to the healthcare system in which he now participates.  He knows how much it sucks.  He worked his ass off to get where he is and just wants to give back what he can without putting himself at risk.
