Title: dead drops (or shipping to somewhere other than your house)
Post by: deniedwings on July 10, 2011, 12:28 am
[edit] as redrocket pointed out on the next post, I am not really asking about deaddrops, but mailing to an abandonded building or mailboxes etc or one of those places[edit]

I don't understand the advantage to a deaddrop.  If a person is going to get busted its because the drugs/contraband get detected in the shipping process and the police set up a controlled delivery.  They do this and then they see you picking the stuff up, addressed to someone who isnt you, and at a mailbox that isnt yours.  It gets a bit tougher to explain how you came to be there at that time picking up illegal materials.

If you ship it to your house to a fake name, pick it up from your mailbox and put it aside, if the cops come busting in its pretty easy to say "Hey, I dont know what the fuck it is, it wasnt addressed to me, I didnt open it, I was going to return it to the post office tomorrow.

Obviously I am not a lawyer, but I dont see how you get convicted under those circumstances.  I am interested to hear what everyone else has to say.

youre just thinking of a normal mail drop.....a dead drop doesnt involve the post office as far as im aware.....if your dealer is in the same country as you,he will drive up and drop it off somewhere for you to collect,he will only tell you where it is after he has planted it....the whole idea is to transfer something without actually meeting each other.....dont forget, you are both strangers, either could be a cop,no dealer on this planet will meet a stranger face to face with ten kilos in his hands.lol...and it cuts out the mailman etc etc,i dont see how a dead drop can work if you are not in the same country as a seller, because like you say,it would have to be mailed, which is pointless.....unless, your dealer has a private jet and is including the drop in your home country into the price.lol....

i dunno...i saw a guy somewhere offering dead drop with gps tracking or someshit....could be completely different to what i understand....anyone else??

Yeah, sorry - I used the wrong term.  My question wasnt about dead drops but about the recommendation I have seen on this forum several times that you should find an abandoned building or get another mailbox or whatever to ship your items too as opposed to just using your house.

EDIT: I understood what you meant...excellent question, and should be discussed...is big worry...

I'm pretty much in agreement with you...it's just too much exposure at other places, and if worst comes to worst, at one's own house, well, they'd almost have to make the courtcase about btc and SR, and that would be a hell of a case...while if they get you somewhere else, you haven't a leg to stand on...someone else's mailbox, someone else's address...how can you explain that...while at your house, hell, could be that vindictive ex, or brother in law, damn if I know...it's not mine...

I'm kind of glad you brought this up: to buyers, this is the real dilemma...I like hearing the different theories, but they almost always say: "Whatever you do, don't get it at your house!"  or "I can't believe some of you are still getting it at your own homes!"  ...but it's not that easy...my house, hell half the mail I get isn't for me...and if they actually have gotten into computers and gone through all that high-powered technology to prove you ordered, it's still hard to prove this is yours...again: good court case...fuck if I know why people would send this shit to my house...while if you start lying and getting caught with fake i.d. and a mbox not in your name...

A lot of thought gets put into this one...some of the more elaborate schemes are pretty appealing, but still, you have to operate on the theory the worst *could* happen, and prepare for it...

i also dont agree with the idea of a maildrop with fake details etc etc.....why fix something that aint broke:)

some people say on here that the police wont stake out a maildrop for long due to the expense....you got that right...BUT...

all they have to do is tell the maildrop company to give them a ring when you collect the package, get your picture off the cameras, and smash your house door down....far easier than a stake out if you ask me

EDIT:talkin gibberish iam...way past me bed time.lol

I still get mail from the previous owners of this house after 2 years! Go their superannuation statements and a working credit card  :o Anywho I'm sending my stuff here and writing return to sender (even though it doesn't have a return address). I'll leave it on my desk with the unsolicited mail. What can LE do?

Weird thing is, I've got a couple of friends, kind of runaways, who I let get mail at my house...the postman even asked about one of'em, and I told him, yeah, I let him get mail here, just stick in crack in back door, and he picks it up at random....a lot of people don't have money to rent homes, and just want a place to get letters from mom and stuff...no big deal...I sure hope they don't send anything illegal..you never know, tho...

I am kind of curious as to how many of you actually do have it sent to your home?

I am a first time buyer, and all this talk about fake address erks me.
I will probably have it sent to my house, and the only real worry to me is that a seller
is LE, but I guess that's the whole point of posting here to get to know people....

Just so we are clear on smuggler terminology:
A "Dead Drop" is a dumpster or hole in a tree unattached to anyone or anything.
