Hey all
I've come across an ampoule of morphine.
Its the type that you open by cracking off the top section along the provided score mark.
Anyway id like to try this out but have been unable to find other ampoules with the rubber top to transfer the solution into to retain it hygienically.
Firstly sorry for the long winded intro and I'll get to the question.
Can I open the ampoule and store it and its contents safely and hygienically?
If yes then I'd really appreciate your input and how to best do so?
Thanks in advance and I look forward any and all replies.

glass ampoules ::) Why do you want to transfer it, normal ampoules are small single dose units. But in any case just use any small and clean vial such as an eyedropper or what not. But of course once you change containers no matter what it wont be "sterile"

Check to see if it has a small amount of benzyl alcohol in it. If it does, you can store it for a couple weeks in another container, preferably a vial. Buy an empty vial online or a bacteriostatic water vial and empty it.

Well, there are ways of doing so, but most of them are only doable in a proper lab environment.
In case you want to split the ampule in two equal aliquots, it is possible to break it open, take out what you need, and re-seal the glass in a bunsen burner. In a typical biological-work fumehood you would have all that is required present. This re-sealing can usually be done only once though, the next time you break open the ampule there will not be enough glass left to repeat the process.
But if you have a sterile environment you could simply divide it up into say 10 fresh vials using a pipette and sterile tips.
