Title: PGP Questions
Post by: Gidyean on January 26, 2013, 10:19 pm
1.  Is there a way to link/show my public key on my SR profile?

2.  When ordering from a vendor, do I encrypt my public key and send it along with my name and address?

Thanks for your help.

To answer question 1, you can post your public key on any of the pgp threads and then click on that message to get the URL.  In your "profile" settings is a place where you have a signature, you can post the URL there and it can be seen on your posts.  Hope that helps.. See mine below..

For your second question I'm guessing you don't need to send them your key, and if you do decide to then you dont need to encrypt it.

The vendor shouldnt need to send you any sensitive information (names, addresses etc) so shouldnt need your public key.

If you do send it, its "public" information so doesnt need to be encrypted.

I'm planning to encrypt my name and address with the vendors public key and leave it at that.

I'm a newbie too tho so hopefully someone with more experience will chime in soon.

Good, I was wondering if I committed some kind of laughable noob error when I placed my first order the other day!

I was under the impression they needed your public key to decrypt the information you send to them when you use your private key to sign the message.

Only if you use your private key to encrypt the message then should they need your public to read it?

Interesting if true.

If you pay for tracking and expect tracking info you'll want to send you're public key so they can encrypt it to you. Also some vendors like to keep communication going but only communicate with pgp, it can't hurt to include it just in case. They don't need your public key to decrypt the info you send them though. Just to encrypt things to you.
