Title: U.S. Government agencies - which one?
Post by: 57 on March 31, 2013, 12:15 am
Which government agency would investigate a shipment to a private residence?  is it DEA, FBI, ICE?

I'm assuming, depending on how big the case ended up being, all of them could be involved.

U.S. Postal Inspection Service. But DEA, FBI, Homeland Security and others may get involved depending on the nature of the package.

if it is domestic and not bulk USPI, if it is domestic and bulk either USPI or DEA or possibly also FBI although that is less likely. if it is international, ICE, USPI or DEA and possibly FBI as well.

From what I've read, local police are usually involved and USPS investigator/inspectors are always involved.  If it's a big bust, its a toss-up between the DEA or FBI getting it, they both have concurrent jurisdiction over these crimes.  ICE only gets involved (and usually briefly before handing the case off) when gear crosses the US border.
