Title: What time frame would you like the 'Cancel' button to be activated
Post by: jamin210 on June 26, 2013, 03:51 am
This came to mind today when an order has been processing for 3 days w/ no response from vendor.

I think the button should be available immediately.

There should be a mid-way option for vendors to mark orders as "processing" from "placed", instead of it auto-processing. This would still allow vendors to mark orders in-transit when they are actually enroute. :P

Four days is definitely too long especially at times of BTC volatility, where the vendor is basically being given a free "option" type deal: if the market moves favourably they take the deal, if not they can cancel.
That aside, I agree that some kind of three stage system might work.
Unread: the vendor hasn't seen order: buyer can cancel at will.
Processing : buyer can't cancel but after 48 hrs he can.
In transit:   as now.

The reason for the 48 hr processing limit is to prevent vendors just going down list marking as read so people can't cancel.

This is probably too complicated so I think a 48 hr processing time would be better than current system. Its incredibly frustrating to have your coins tied up for effectively a week (when there's no mail at weekend, normally the four day wait will mean no drugs till next week)

Alternatively, vendors could mark current processing time (24,48,72,96) on their page and  you could cancel if it was exceeded.

A lot of this problem would be alleviated by vendors regularly updating their page with current processing time (as many do). It isn't the wait that's the problem, as long as you are aware of it.

I get how busy some vendors are, but its just good to know how long you are likely to be processing.

Vendors should only be marking packages in transit when they are enroute currently.

If you make the cancel button available immediately then this actually encourages the opposite because they will be afraid they might come home after mailing the package only to find the order cancelled and them S.O.L.  So then vendors have to mark it in transit when they are about to go mail it to protect themselves instead of after.

I personally think 48 hours is fair to cancel if it has not been shipped out.
1. Vendor should not be advertising product he does not have in stock
2. It should not take longer than 48 (except sunday, But even then they can be dropped in bluebox!) to get a product packaged and shipped.
3. BTC Fluctuation. If i had the money for the purchase when i made it and BTC drops then i cant afford the same product after an order is canceled 4 days later :/
4. Maybe under certain circumstances IE>. Order placed and no MSG's have been responded to. the SR can activate it after verifying no comms' have been made on the vendors end.

Just a few thoughts.

I believe BTC are hedged for most vendors so im not to sure BTC fluctuation affects them once an order is placed.

i think 48 hours is more than fair , 4 days is far too long to wait , if a vendor cant put something in an envelope and post it in 48 hours , there is something far wrong . and they should not be a vendor . i have waited the 92 hours before i waited from the monday to the thursday , he put it in transit 2 hours before i could cancel then he must have waited the weekend and posted it monday , not right !

I think that you should be able to cancel within a 24 hour time frame, if not immediately.  Four days is obviously too long, and I doubt that anyone on the road, customers especially, like the way the cancel options works right now.  If the SR staff did shorten the cancel option, I truly think that it would solve a lot of customer/seller issues.

Great idea OP.

+1

I think 2 days is sufficient. However, if the vendor can confirm the order and thats its processing then its ok. I'm not going to bust my ass and package my item stealth (which takes time) just to see someone changed their mind and cancelled. That would be unfair to vendors. So either implement a vendor acknowledgment/received button meaning its processing and then a shipped button - or just 2 days.

I personally, confirm via private message with buyers when they order so they don't have to worry. Then ship same day and click confirm accordingly.

def. three stages processing, moving in less than 12or24 hrs,in transit
if in 1st stage cancel as soon as buyer wants, if moving must contact vendor within a time limit?

Hi. I am a vendor, and a buyer. I also posted this at the same time in the suggestions thread:

If we added another layer to the vendor-side of the ordering process, we could eliminate a lot of current issues.

What if we added a layer that did the following:

1. When an order is placed, the option to cancel that order becomes available immediately, just in-case.
2. When an order is placed, the Vendor is notified of an order, but cannot see the address information of the order until the order is marked "processing" by the vendor themselves.
3. Once an order has been marked "processing" by the vendor, the option to cancel is terminated.

This would eliminate wait-times and what not that occur when vendors dont log in for several days but leave listings up and unattended. This would also eliminate the potential  buyer-scams that have and do occur; when a buyer(intentionally, or just impatiently) cancels an order that hasn't yet been marked "in-transit" by a vendor who is constantly busy and ships items out before marking them in-transit.

What does everyone think?

I already had that base covered. ;)

**Also, I want to stomp out a common misconception: "In Transit" is just what the buyer sees. As a vendor, you get orders and you have the option to "Confirm" or "Cancel" the order. Confirming marks the order "in transit" to you, while the vendor is thinking that all they did is let YOU know that they saw your order.

My suggestion covers both sides. As not many vendors are/were buyers, and not many buyers are vendors. I think there's a lot of miscommunication because of the difference in wording on each side of the fence.

I believe the option to cancel an order should be available immediately after placing an order. Read the in-quoted suggestion. Thanks!

Yes I agree that covers the issue I referred to.

I apologize for not clicking on your username and reading all of your other posts prior to commenting in this thread!   ;)

I just think there's much to be said for forward-thinking, and less to be said for defeatism. :)

People here are easily persuaded to the thinking of others(cause most of them are high).
