Title: Ammonium Nitrate, from within Australia
Post by: flashblock on April 25, 2012, 08:33 am
Anyone know where I can source some? They say small amounts are in cold packs, but can only find ones containing urea.

Any ideas?

Just curious, but what exactly is this used for? I'm guessing extraction or synthesis of something funky?

looking to make anfo? Or anhydrous ammonia? If the latter, just use ammonium chloride + NaOH, at least you won't be suspected of being a terrorist....

obviously for a bomb, fertiliser isle in bunnings would be a good place to look, or any agricultural supply store.
obviously if you need to ask where to find this type of stuff you shouldn't be attempting to do something that could go wrong (obviously getting no instruction or guidance from an experienced head)
if you intend to synth meth you're doing it completely wrong lolololol
plus lol at wowzers post.

Oh and a word about anfo- when I was a lot younger I used to play around with this sort of thing (like most budding chemists). Most commercial fertilizer is pelleted with clay/ cellulose binder. To get the goods out you need to extract with cold water then recrystallise. It's also a shit explosive unless you've packed it properly and use a primary charge. There are safer things which go bang which you can play with.

in all honesty,
someone should list anhydrous ammonia on the road.

Now I understand that Step Brothers quote. I feel like I'm the odd one out here, everyone's got all of these crazy background and I'm just some guy who likes to do acid every now and then. I hope no one intends to kill anyone with this shit, because fuck that. Seriously.

haha, not a crazy background. I needed something to do as a teenager living in the arse-end of nowhere. Blowing up trees is fun- fill a hosepipe with the appropriate explosive, wrap around a tree, stick a fuze in it and run  ;D
fackenyeahcant- People get paranoid about a few mg of powder coming through the mail; anhydrous ammonia comes in cylinders, the shipping would be a nightmare. It's so easy to make too.

I would be very careful ordering anything with near 100% ammonium nitrate - it is very closely watched for pretty damn obvious reasons.

You don't really want the AFP showing up at your house.
