In another thread (http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=25640.0) it was theorized by Bynter that most SR users "avoid addiction". Some people agreed with this, others said that there are probably a lot of addicts that use SR. I think it's an interesting question, so I thought I'd run a poll to see what people consider themselves.

It depends how you define drug. I'm definitely addicted to coffee (caffeine) and I'm definitely addicted to chocolate (Cadbury's only).
With regards to the rest it depends how you define addiction. Is taking MDMA once a month addiction? Is taking is once a week addiction?

There is an objective (though not end-all) measurement, though. If you can't go for longer than X days without your drug of choice without experiencing anxiety, muscle cramps, nausea or other such symptoms, you have a chemical addiction. If you don't have these symptoms you don't have a chemical addiction, but you might have a mental addiction.

I kind of meant both to be open ended and up to the user to decide for themselves. However, I guess I'd exclude legal drugs (caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, etc...). I'd just say answer based on what you feel to be the case for yourself.
-
I don't get cramps or anything when I'm without drugs and I can stay off the drugs pretty good without having them around.. :P
But when they are around, I will use it ::)
-
Addicted to cigarettes, but I get them from the store. Be gone with them! (Down to 6 a day)
However, I answered moderate recreational user to relate to my psychedelic use and occasional night drinking.
-
Mmmm, I love that nicotine! Apart from my pointless cigarette addiction, I smoke a lot of weed. I never want to stop of my own volitio cos it's too much fun, but I don't seem to have any problems stopping when I have to. So I'm guessing more of a habit than an addiction.
-
LOL! Nobody is addicted for now on SR! All is fine!
Yeah, right
-
While I wouldn't consider myself physically addicted to any substance (besides nicotine, one of the worst!), I feel that I have a psychological addiction to marijuana. I haven't gone a day without smoking in about two years. It's expensive, but I rationalize it all of the time. I worry I wouldn't be such a chill, happy person if I didn't smoke weed once a day. It wouldn't be so bad if I had a medical card and could get cheaper (and better) weed. I stay away from coke, meth, heroin, and other opiates because they scare me. Tried MDPV, and started feeling the symptoms of addiction very quickly, so I flushed it. Some people have expressed concern about my MXE use. I don't always have to have it, but when I do, I usually go through a gram in 10-20 days. If I feel cognitive or physical side effects from daily use, I take a break for a day or two until I'm back to baseline. Then once I'm out, I sometimes go a month or two without it. I'm about to take a line right now after a tolerance break. ::)
-
I think that most addicts won't admit it. With that said, I'd consider myself a moderate to light user. This excuses legal stuff. I defiantly have a physical addition to caffeine and nicotine.
-
are orgasms considered a drug? if so, i hope to die while using ;D ;D ;D

I have an addictive personality so I only aim for healthy things, like addicted to healthshakes and vegetables lol Never drank caffeine never intend to :o

Never drank caffeine or coffee?
It's nearly impossible to never drink caffeine in your whole life, it's in a huge amount of food and drinks, sometimes just as a colorant, stabilizer or flavoring.

Never had caffeine or never drank anything with caffeine?
and why?
90% of Americans use caffeine in one form or another.
The reason I ask is because lots of stuff you wouldn't expect to have caffeine has caffeine. For example chocolate.

I said never drank caffeine, I definitely enjoyed a couple coffee crisps chocolate bars as a kid 8) But I meant coffee in general
And why? Generally my mom never bought me junk food/soft drinks so I never got around to it. I've only drank cola like once or twice just to see what it was like and never really enjoyed it.
I feel a lot of people become very unnatural after having even a slight addiction to caffeine/coffee, they feel like they can't even function properly in the mornings.
I don't see anything beneficial about it for me personally, of course other people might need it for reasons that don't concern me. I don't have some sort of personal vendetta against it lol

Oh OK I see. It's just not your cup of tea. No offense to any one here, but people that some sort of vendetta against creep me out. Everyone I met that won't touch any sort of caffeine have always seemed weird for other reasons.

Have you considered growing? It's really not that hard, and it turns an expensive habit into a fairly cheap and very interesting hobby. You can save so much money by not buying weed, whilst still being able to smoke it every day, and the skills that you learn could potentially make you quite a bit of cash if you are ever in a tight spot.
I used to feel like I was psychologically addicted to weed, and felt that this was a bad thing, back when I spent all my money on it. Now, I just feel that it enhances my enjoyment of life, and it is the gift that keeps on giving.

i know a lot of ppl who i wish were addicted to birth control pills.
-
Thank goodness my money flow is so tight.
I voted infrequent recreational user.
-
I would say I'm pretty much addicted to just getting high, Mainly prescription pills (Mostly Xanax and other benzos). At least here I can keep it under control.
-
I voted the first choice. I'm definitely addicted to powder cocaine and have been making sacrifices so I can be alone with it. Generally, I order an 8-ball and binge on it over a few days until it's gone. Then, start planning the next purchase. SR has made it easy and I don't think I'm ready to quit. I have started tapering off my anti-depressant (Zoloft). With the coke, it's pretty ineffective anyway. During the days I don't have coke available, I hit the beer and wine pretty hard.
I made a call to our company's EAP (Employee Assistance Program) last week. They insisted that I enter an inpatient program immediately given my depression, ideation of suicide, and the fact that I have epilepsy. But I question the need for detox with cocaine and again, I don't know that I'm ready to quit. How can you tell?
Would love to hear opinions from the group. Thanks.

People usually quit a substance, once they see that they've hit rock bottom, or they see that they are going down a very dangerous path, and have the will power to over-come their urge to use before its to late. You just gotta look deep in yourself, And realize, " Okay...This shit is destroying me....Am i really gonna let some white powder take control of my life? "
Once you think your mentally capable of quitting, try.
Not everyone quits on their first try, When i was heavily addicted to E, it took me several months to finally rid myself of what was turning into an everyday habit.
You just gotta want it bad enough, and you'll overcome your addiction :D

Over 80% of all paper money in the US has traces of methamphetamine on it. How cool is that?
Im a real polytoxikomane (multiple drug consumption user).
But i can quit it if i want (i promise) ha ha ha
I dont care about addiction. Its part of my life and other people also have any addictions.(coffee, alcohol, cock, sex, hooker, ...)
I want to feel good, and only drugs can give me this special feeling i want.I feel really sorry for those people who doesn´t use drugs because they miss a lot expierience.I hate this kind of people only drink alcohol stinking out of the mouth and get aggressive.(ppor stupig guys).I also know that its no fun to be addicted to Heroin. You must walk the thin line between abuse and usage.
I use drugs only at the weekend (most time). On business days i do my job, and at the weekend i get my reward for this. Its always like a little holiday for me.
Im not addicted to one special drug, i use all drugs. A pertinent mood needs a pertinent drug.It really enriches my life.

Total transactions: 47
Total spent: $5476.88

Daily weed use. Had to quit for a life insurance policy about a year ago. Had some anxiety about quitting, but it wasn't so bad. Quit for 35 days. Nicotine too, but only for 5 days
After I qualified, that first toke was oh so nice!
I order pain pills on occasion for legit pain. I like them, but know better than to take regularly. I don't drink for the same reason, can't handle the hangover.
-
I smoke cannabis at least twice a day. I plug meth once a week. I take LSD or some type of psychedelic twice a month. I feel completely in control of my use. All other drugs I have lost interest in. Where do I fit on this poll?
-
I answered as addicted, but not mainly depending on SR. I like my cigs, coffee and booze. Most of the time those are enough.
Surely i also enjoy benzo's and on some occasions something stronger too, but that doesn't depend on SR, its merely a system to get them delivered conveniently at a premium price.

I'm addicted to tobacco physically.
And I know this sounds ridiculous, but I'm also addicted to pot. Psychologically.
I'm convinced that those two things are probably the #1 reason I'm always broke. But life without pot for me is miserable, and I would love to quit tobacco but goddamn, I'm insufferable when I do that and it feels like shit!
Until I can muster the resources to grow, I guess I'm just fucked.
-
I consider myself a drug enthusiast. I try and avoid doing addictive drugs too frequently, but I do like to try them every now and then. The addictive properties of a drug only come out after frequent use, so until then it's all psychological
-
It doesn't have to be that frequent though. Especially opiates can be addictive after a few or even a single dose.
Drawing the line between physical and psychological dependence is very tricky. Perhaps you'd think that feeling miserable without using is only a psychological matter, but the distinction between simply missing something and suffering withdrawal symptoms can be very fine.
-
I'm just addicted to tripping in general, but not even remotely addicted to a single drug. I don't take any opiates, stimulants, or prescription drugs other than marijuana though. ;) I'm all about psychedelics/dissociatives now.

I can't comment on the tobacco, cos that bitch has her claws into me too, but as for growing, it doesn't have to be expensive. I've seen hundreds of cheap-ass "ghetto grows" that have produced the goods on a shoestring budget.
Normal household "energy saver" cfls will grow weed if you use enough of them, and are cheap as hell to buy. They are only about half as efficient as proper hps grow lights, but they do the job for a small personal grow.
Ventilation, done properly, is the most expensive part of a grow. PC fans will work for a very small grow with cfls, but they don't have enough ability to overcome pressure, which means that they are not viable for use with carbon filters. Carbon filters are used to remove the smells from the exhausted air, which does nothing for the plants, but helps stop you getting busted. If your living arrangements are secure, and you don't get unwanted guests, you may be able to get away without a proper fan/filter setup for a small grow, as I did on my early efforts (although the house did stink lol), but proper fans and filters give real peace of mind, as well as the ability to grow with hps lights and higher wattage setups in general.
Even a small grow can produce quite well if you do your homework on proper care and training, and can pave the way to bigger grows in the future, since anything you harvest is weed that you would otherwise have had to buy, and the money you save can be put back into equipment for the next run. You can easily become self-sufficient without too much effort, and even make the grow pay for itself (and then some ;))
Good luck to you, and anyone else reading this who is in the same situation. I've been a poor, miserable weed smoker myself, and it's a real shame, because it's not the weed that makes you miserable, just the fact that it costs so fucking much. You would be amazed at just how cheap it is to actually grow your own, in pure cash terms. There is some effort involved, and a bit of a learning curve, but the whole process can be a pretty fun and massively rewarding hobby.
-
I'm less addicted to drugs than I am to other things like caffeine.
I like to try different things to see what I like and what I don't, while hoping to have a great experience.
But I know my limits and don't overuse knowing how easy it is to get addicted.
moderation is key

With regards to the rest it depends how you define addiction. Is taking MDMA once a month addiction? Is taking is once a week addiction?
There is an objective (though not end-all) measurement, though. If you can't go for longer than X days without your drug of choice without experiencing anxiety, muscle cramps, nausea or other such symptoms, you have a chemical addiction. If you don't have these symptoms you don't have a chemical addiction, but you might have a mental addiction.
Cannabis is chemically addictive then, I cant eat properly or the worst part I cannot sleep without it. The sleeping is the worst, no matter how tired I am or how long I lay there I cant sleep and the next day I feel like shit and this shit last for months.
-
Im addicted to taking drugs in general..... The whole kit and caboodle baby... Like the the brief case from fear and loathing..... Thats my idea of a good night/week....

Cannabis is not chemically addicted, and no withdrawal lasts for several months. You're either so severely mentally addicted that you're causing psychosomatic symptoms, in which case I'd stop smoking weed if I were you, or being very hyperbolic, which I find more likely.

I voted number 2...

As long as your not hurting anyone, Does it really matter if someone is an addict?
I don't think the questions on everybody's minds can be reduced to such a simplistic analysis.
Assuming the degree of "hurting" can be measured:
1) If the set of "anyone" excludes yourself (someone is hurting themselves but not others), I think it matters whether they consider the question of whether they have an addiction because such introspection may eventually unlock the ability to stop hurting oneself.
2) If the set of "anyone" includes yourself (someone is not hurting themselves, nor others), I think if you look at the bigger picture, it matters to consider the question nonetheless because:
It is important to think of these matters in practical, not theoretical terms. Even in the case that an addiction causes no harm to the addict or his environment, the addict does not have control over his or her mind in regards to the addiction. I find it difficult to believe that this pattern of thinking in a human being can target only one thing (call it exercise, a drug, sex, etc), and left unchecked (even if it is benign), can eventually lead to problems in other areas of life. I think it is always important to be mindful of habits (mindful, not scared).
I'm not a professional in this matter. You're right that practically the question of whether or not someone is an addict /seems/ to be less meaningful when we're talking about a daily caffeine drinker, but in conclusion I don't think that this kind of analysis considers the whole picture.

Mate, google search "cant sleep without weed" "cant eat without weed", it is addictive despite the 1960's pro weed propaganda.

I'm addicted to throwing penguins off roofs. If I don't throw at least one penguin from a roof within 15 minutes of waking up in the morning I get withdrawal.
-
I think I can be really lucky to not be addicted to anything.
I did:
- Caffeine (coffee, red bull, ...) - no addiction, doing it irregularly
- Nicotine (cigarettes, cigars, snus, snuff, ...) - no addiction, doing it rarely
- Alcohol (beer, wine, liquor) - maybe a slight addiction, because when I go out, I drink; i don't have a problem not drinking for weeks
- THC (weed, hash) - no addiction, doing it irregularly, when a friend has some weed or fine quality hash; just for recreation purposes; not more than 1-2 times per 2-3 months
- MDMA (crystalline) - no addiction, did it once 2 months ago; still have a lot of MDMA here but to minimize the risk of addiction/brain damage, I'll make long breaks between one roll and the next

well man i consider myself an addict...and honest...i have ruptured herniated disc c5/c6 stenosis and spondylosis i may not have spelled that right and while im prescribed what im addicted to..doesnt make me any less addicted and im to the point where dopesick is only 8 hours away everyday...i cant wait for my surgery so i can rehab n get off opiates...shits no fun...im ready for my drugs to be for introspection and or what ''fun'' i glean from them but my idea of fun is more meditative ..no im not a hippy i just want to learn me better...and man im glad i found deep web and these forums im made fun of on bluelight for not being a raging druggie and having a bit of restraint in matters that i can control..the opiates right now are beyond my control...but thats by dr. design..and i use psychedelics natural and synthetic to open the cracked door into my mind..please and ty for asking a serious question and not being a self rightous dick about it..now all that said im not one to just take random psychedelic rc's because alot of em are just too untested and unsure of doses...and while im not scared i am leary of takin something potentially as strong as say ayahuasca mixed w/ some sort of speed analog...ive had a really good time w/ the herbal smoke blends and have had full blown trips repeatedly on a particular banned brand there are several relativly safe low body load psychedelics ive enjoyed...not gonna get too far into that but none of that stuff is in my addiction profile unless its mental and i do ok only getting to trip 3 or 4 times a year..i hope to find a compassionate vendor on rs but this is my 1st day on and im not gonna get too excited and ruin my chance at meeting the right seller but il be honest the idea of being able to plan and safely schedule a couple of sessions a month is enough to make me excited lol...anyway i ramble when some1 may listen...im kind of lonely if you havent guessed...again i say please and thank you for asking the right question....at least to me anyway
