Title: Can customs identify unusual powders?
Post by: greencrayon on March 15, 2012, 07:25 am
I haven't been able to find any info on this. When the flag is raised with customs and they go to test a powder, don't they need to test for a specific substance? Like if it was mescaline HCl or 4-ACO-DMT, wouldn't they lack the tests for those specific substances? If the tests do not show that it is any of the substances on their radar, and just something unknown, what would they do with it?

And secondly do you think they really would be unable to identify rarer substances like methylone, or would it be no problem?

I am only speaking from my corner of the world and in my own little world but yes they lack on the spot tests for most RC's last time I checked, a couple of months ago.
If the substance is caught and they cannot ID it they will send you a letter and ask you to ID the substance for them.
Meanwhile if it is of significant quantity they have sent it to a lab to be identified in the hope that you will own up to the package and either tell the truth about the substance or lie about what it is...either way they have you.

Im not a chemist but Im pretty sure they have profiled most RC's  these days and can lab test easy enough.  If they could be bothered. Most of the time its not your package and they just destroy it?? maybe lol
