Title: Am I The Only Person Who Uses A Grinder?
Post by: 72289 on August 24, 2011, 04:26 pm
So this is more of a question than anything else. Feel free to move it if needed.  :P

I am a huge connoisseur of the green and have been for years. Of course until recently (thanks to SR) I've just gotten my bud from around whatever town I'm in at the time. Anyways where this is going is I see a lot of mj sellers (I've used a good handful on SR) getting 4 out of 5 reviews because their bud is slightly squished. While I understand that joy you get from holding a perfectly shaped bud in your hand I don't understand whatsoever how people expect perfect buds every time...in the mail. I know two of the providers I use on SR generally squish the bud but it's insanely good (not to say I don't get good bud that isn't extremely vacuum packed).

Basically what I'm saying is it's vacuum packed to protect you and if it gets a little squished in the process then so be it. If the bud is dank and the shipping time is good then I feel you should be giving a 5/5 not a 4/5 because it's become a little misshaped as it went across the country. I also have no clue why it's that big of a deal either...when you put it into a grinder it will flower back out into dankness.

So, my question is why do feel the need to knock off a point for bud that is about to be torn apart and ground up by metal teeth? Squished or not after a few seconds of grinding it's going to look the same either way.

Meh...just my lunch break rant I guess.

Thanks for reading :D

It's really pisses the sellers off when they do that.
The rating system needs to be expanded because what these people who do this don't understand is other people make their choices from those ratings. The sellers know that and are trying hard to get a %100. They fight/work for status.
How I am to know that the guy gets 85% cause you don't like squished buds?

I got some stuff from canada that was compressed more than I would have liked but I understand that's maybe why I ended up getting it in the first place.    The quality of the bud was fine and the price was definitely right.   Put it in my grinder anyways and it's all good.   Now that said I do appreciate the domestic sellers that strive to have their buds arrive in tact.
Bottom line I would never knock a point off for that when dealing with mailing items.

agree this is how it works for international but if your domestic i will give a lower rating if the bud is squished (esp if you dont list that in your description)...guess ive been spoiled by other canadian MOM (mail order weed) places that will even ship in glass jars, etc...

Some people are pickier than others, and to some the visual aesthetics are pretty important.

As soon as I got knocked for squished bud, I adjusted and figured out how to vacuum seal without squishing.

I don't even like smoking, it all looks and smells like ass to me, but I'll do whatever to satisfy the customer.

Amen to that, I got some canada bud that was squashed to fuck, but gave 5/5 anyway. I could put half as much in the grinder and it filled it up.

Would rather have squashed vac sealed bud than no smelly intercepted bud.

There's a common belief that compressing bud bursts trichomes and reduces quality. Compressed bud is also associated with the crappy Mexican schwag commonly found in the USA, so that's another strike against it.

It's not the most important thing to me, but I do prefer vendors that don't crush the buds.

A lot of people have brought up good points on both sides. Zirkelwin you brought up one of the more interesting ones. I've definitely never heard of that but with some thought I could see how that may happen.

I'm just not a visual person when it comes to drugs, I guess that's why I don't see the big deal. :)

I'm strictly a buyer over here, and I rely heavily on the feedback system because well, it's the only indication we have for a fishy seller. When I see a rating under 95% I assume that it's because someone was seriously not satisfied with a transaction. I mean, if the vendor is completely legit and reasonably stealthy there's no reason to give him/her less than a 5. If you have different expectations concerning the product or packaging, then it's fine to put that in the comments or in the forum, but the feedback system should be reserved as a way to warn against objectively problematic vendors and not to express your subjective opinions. Am I somehow misunderstanding the way things should work round here?

"Am I somehow misunderstanding the way things should work round here?"

maybe....

But it turns out how it works is completely different.

A lot of vendors have dummy ratings.
Some have ratings and haven't sold a thing.
Do NOT trust SR rating, maybe use as a gauge, but do NOT trust it.

You see the top 4 stickies today? Check their ratings.
Hmmm, one of they is even posting new product.
Wonder how many will get suck into that?

The more I think about it, you should be able to knock a point off for crashed buds if you weren't warned.
Unfortunately the system isn't working that way.
Luckily we have a few vendors, buyers, and moderators willing to stick together and weed out the bad ones.

If you let em sit in a jar often they will puff back out even after being vacuum sealed. I use a grinder, nice to collect kief from these manicured medical nugz, I do like uncut leafy bush bud too.

if they good buds i dont mind if they squashed.  squashed plenty myself sitting on my stash lol!!  being picky in my book better vac sealed than a cop at the door. 72289 got a point. any seller that delivers wat the advertise deserves a 5 in my book.   mab consider some sort of multi  score system like 5.5.5 for 5 for product 5 for stealth package and 5 for seller /buyer interactions.

A little squishage is something I have always expected. I understand people that would be upset if it were completely smashed but I haven't had that from any seller I've used on SR. I had one shipment that came in a pill bottle and while delivered without issue I think that would be obvious under X-Ray. That being said they were awesome fluffy popcorn nugz. But like most of you I do use a grinder too. I honestly haven't had a transaction yet that didn't deserve a 5/5. I'd understand knocking off points for some noticeably seedy shit sold at premium prices or shit that was already obviously ground and keifed. Situations like that are worth giving a 4/5 in my opinion even if the seller offers some remedy because they are shitty in the first place. But for stuff the sellers can't control (usually ignorance on the purchaser) I think the 4/5 rating for stuff like it not "looking" like enough (which IMO strikes me as I didn't get enough free weed), or shipping taking longer than they like even though it was shipped in reasonable time seem counterproductive.

As I was writing this I had an idea though what if s a seller vac sealed the nugs with something rigid and comparably sized to the nugs would it keep the shape better? For example I throw a handful of GoGo's Crazy Bones and a handful of nugs and vac sealed it would the crazy bones keep the wrap from crushing the bud? Secondly is there something comparable that is cheaper that could be used the same way? Those stupid dice toys are like $2 a pack for 3.

Sellers do not need to squish the buds to have adequate odor-free packaging.

to all the bitchers out there.. can any of you actually outline a method in which buds CANNOT be smashed without negatively effecting the pricing from glass jars and the expenses associated with it?

I personally don't vacuum seal, i use thick mylar food storage bags with extremely low permeability. They are less flexible than the average poly vac seal bag which tends to hold the buds in place. It works pretty good but its not perfect.  There is an art to how much air to leave in the bag vs how much to compress, or fold off empty sections.  I seal them with a impulse sealer.  I stopped vac sealing because 1. poly bags are crap and permeate in like 6 hours per layer.  2.  Some people will bitch about any damage at all, which is all but certain with strong vacuum.  I have yet to see anyone offer a complete , economical, solution however.  Hell, Ive seen CRUSHED BOXES.  I've seen post office employee's THROW my boxes, out in the open into shipping bins.  What do you think they do in the back?  Hell you guys gotta know that shit gets thrown around in transit.  conveyer belts, trucks, airplanes.. And GASP semi retarded postal workers.

So ok.. without suggesting something expensive and breakable such as glass, or something certain to have voids such as uniform plastic containers that the buds will bounce around in for 3 days..  How exactly do people expect to bitch about something none of them seem to be able to solve? Waaaaa I want it perfect!!!  Who here has sent over 1,000 packs this year?  Would it be reasonable to expect that they all arrived with every little orange hair intact?  Which method of infinate wisdom would that be?  Seems from experience that its entirely reasonable to expect that a few of them are gonna be CRUSHED TO HELL.  Forums always have so much groupthink armchair masturbation and so little recognition that HEY.. if your ordering drugs on the internet, this has INHERENT RISKS of the customers,  many of which are far worse than a dent in that high-times photo you've been fantasizing about.  If you could mail order a Hustler model on the internet you wouldn't be pissing about how her lipstick was smeared on arrival.  Fuck I'd still accept that package even if her arm was broke.

LOL, what a tool.

I think we were talking about rolled flat squished.
I do believe one vendor warns about that in his international shipments.
I can fully understand his position.

Dealing with customer service all day, leaves me a bit jaded.
So I can understand how you feel.

Maybe we need to take time you once in a while we appreciate your service, and the risks you take.
Don't think this was a bitch session about your bud, but whether as customers we should rate you for that.
The real question is "should points be taken off for improper shipping methods?"

At this point My feelings would be no, because "it pisses the vendors off".
You are a case in point.

However, it's not honest.
Something shipped in an open used baggie, would be at the other extreme.

Time to masturbate some more.

you need to use at least 2 heat-sealed bags, preferrably 3.

your feedback might even improve :)
