Title: New ADHD medication approved for the German market
Post by: Cpt. Meow on January 31, 2012, 01:51 pm
I'm sure many of you guys in the EU have gone through the frustration of trying to procure Adderall or similar dextroamphetamine containing prescription drugs in manageable quantities from US vendors. Today I came across this press statement from Medice, a German pharmaceutical company:

"New: first Dexamphetamine product in Germany for treatment of ADHD. Medice has launched the first Dexamphetamine product in Germany for the pharmacotherapy of ADHD. Dexamphetamine product is approved as 3rd line option."

The drug is called Attentin and if I'm not mistaken it is only approved for the treatment of ADHD in children and teenagers, hence it might be hard to acquire. Still, I'd love to see it on SR at some point.

Besides Medice, I know of Shire Pharm, the guys behind Adderall, who have had ADHD drugs for the European market in the pipeline for some time. According to their website they are in phase 3 development to get Vyvanse and a drug called Intuniv approved in the EU. Estimated launch for Vyvanse is supposed to be sometime in 2012.

Anyone know of similar developments within the EU?

according to google, attentin is strattera, we've had that in america for years and most people get next to nothing in terms of symptom relief, there are rare individuals that it's exactly what they needed but for most people it's just a complete waste of time. it's only a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, so it's also pretty much shit recreationally, i really seriously wouldn't waste your time or effort on it
makes sense in children as it's not going to have the negative health impact of stimulants, same reason why intuniv's used in kids, although that has a far more nebulous impact on the brain

i found that 2mg of intuniv mellowed out an adderall prescription in a very unique way, i  think i liked it?
again, it's not a stimulant, taking it in excess of prescribed dose is a bad idea, and by itself i wouldn't expect it to help much at least not in a grown person

vyvance however most people really like, it's just a dextroamphetamine prodrug, i hate it because it stays in the system longer than i can deal with, but i seem to be in the minority here. iirc clinical trials confirm how great it is

i know it's probably not relevant because i'm american, but i am going to shoutout to modafinil, it is so much more fucking clean and tame than any typical stimulant (amphetamines, methylphenidates) it might not help as much as dextroamphetamine, but it is so clean, really great drug

Modafinil sounds delice, might give it a shot at some point..

The Attentin (generic Strattera) you are referring to contains Atomoxetine, and is produced by Ranbaxy Labs among others. Indeed, from what I read Strattera has proven to be inferior in many aspects compared to dextroamphetamine.

The new medication, according to the press release from Medice, is in fact a dextroamphetamine containing drug with the same name, that has been approved for the German market since December 2011, hence the confusion.

It would be interesting to know if there already exists first hand experience with this substance and whether there are similar processes in other European countries at the moment.

I've found the price stats for Attentin:

They are only available in 5mg quantities.

- 20 tabs are currently 31,33 €.

- 50 tabs are currently 76,65 €.

As of today, no statutory health insurance covers the them, only perhaps a few private ones. Additionally, you would have to get an off-label prescription for the application in adults. Thus, I suppose it's not worth the hassle to procure them.

Any new developments of dextroamphetamine meds in other European countries I would love to hear.

Fuck sake

Big Pharma scumbags

Kids with ADHD dont need fucking medicating, I had it REALLY bad when I was a kid, like seriously imagine a 7 year old kid still up at 2am, hyperactive, having proper 20-30minute laughing fits and running around like a deranged little shit, and it was only my mum and me

And she managed and she raised me and I turned out fine, without drugs, ironically apart from like aspirin/paracetamol, and drowsy free cough syrup I'd never had much of any kind of drug, legal or illegal until 19.

I take strattera atomoxitinine and I find it actually really helps my ADHD presumably I am one of them who it just links up for, well I get angry occasionally but very rare I show anger now, also I do argue at home sometimes but it's never physical, so I think it would help.

But I think that it would maybe have slight effects on someone trying it or maybe none, I heard strattera is pretty rare too, a lot of people have not heard about it, although I also heard strattera can be bad if your not used to it / lethal and or dangerous.

Although Ritalin on the other hand that's a drug that a lot of people buy, this has some effects although i'm not sure what it does, but for me it made me worse I don't know.
