I wonder if they block Tor browser from using the website. Also, they may even flag instances where transaction are used through Tor. It says they are licensed money transmitters, so, that means they are in the same category as mtgox. They have to cooperate with the gov'ts requests. Hopefully they stay lax on that.

Has anyone had a successful transaction through the new bitinstant site? I saw on their twitter that some people were having issues with the site and/or receiving BTC.

The site seems to be working fine on my end (using Tor). I was able to setup my buy, but I wanted to make sure people are getting their deposits in a reasonable time before going to Moneygram with cash.

Thanks. At the location where you paid Moneygram, have they asked for ID in the past? I'm wondering if this is part of a new policy...

In my experience, CVS has been hit and miss with asking for ID for a while. It seems to depend on the employee. Some other retail chains have never asked for ID.

Has anyone else been able to buy today without ID?

So I've made a cash deposit and received my confirmation email.  It's been over an hour with nothing showing up on blockchain.  I've looked at their FAQ's and it appears a number of people are experiencing the same.  However, it seems that the BitInstant team has been plugging away answering questions and reassuring people that the funds will show.

I wish I had taken a closer look before I deposited funds as one person in particular is claiming to have deposited a total of $750 four hours ago without it showing on blockchain.  This is frustrating and I can understand part of it, but if your 'reserves' on different exchanges are empty and you don't have the btc to send to people, WHY ON EARTH are you taking more orders?!  That seems a foolhardy practice and one that vendors here on the market get LIT UP for.  Selling more than they currently have, that is.

I'll update the forums when I receive my confirmations.

I never used Mtgox with bitinstant. I just sent cash straight to my SR wallet (which always changes). I haven't used them since this weekend, though. I used a different service this weekend. It took an hour or two to get through the blockchain. If bitinstant is all back like before, I bet that would still be quite viable.

I've NEVER used MtGox, thank you very much. ;)

I'm assuming that he meant made a cash deposit through zipzap to bitinstant so that bitinstant would send btc to his sr wallet.
Title: Re: BITINSTANT ANNOUNCE ON FB THEY RE LAUNCHED THEIR SITE, CASH DEPOSITES BAK ON

a btc wallet won't hold cash...

You initiate a transaction with BitInstant.  Then you deposit cash at a location that places that cash into the account of a company called zipzap.  That company then verifies that you deposited the money, then notifies bitinstant.  Bitinstant has a lot of bitcoins.  Bitinstant sends you the bitcoins that are equivalent to the amount of money you deposited(minus fees).  The Bitinstant waits for the funds from zipzap to arrive so they can purchase more btc and start over.

It says all of that on the bitinstant page.  Try to not be so lazy.

I'm experiencing a delay also. I used the cash to wallet option, this is only the second time I have used it. The first time I didn't get what I thought I should have after fees so I stuck to cash to bitstamp for a while but today that option wasn't there. This is it for me, I have to find a better alternative.

I've heard,  With all the current US based exchanges needing to verify identification by sending a bunch of info, they're actually doing it in a way I've never seen or heard of before. After filling out a short registration form, instead of sending them copies of your info they ask 3 multiple choice questions on 3  different family members information (Birthdate, age, something of that matter) that's attached to your name answer all 3 correctly and you've been verified. That actually freaked me out a bit as they just goby name, address, and birth date. I'm starting to feel warning signs dealing with them in the future.

I would be careful when dealing with bitinstant...Then again, buying coins isn't illegal. The website seems incomplete and buggy as hell. I would wait or just stop using them all together.

Why do people send their cash deposits through bitinstant to their MtGox account? Why not directly to a wallet (SR or non SR)? I'm just curious as to what the advantage here is. Seems like an unnecessary step/ expense.

Today I've noticed all the posts on the bitinstant support page regarding these issues have been taken down and one can't add a new shared post regarding anything. I agree.. I dont trust MT.GOX AT ALL!! Also to those that dont know. DO NOT WASTE YOUR COINS FOGGING AND TUMBLING THE COINS..

SEND THEM ST8T TO SR WALLET, before they hit your account they have been tumbled...

If u wanna waste that few bucks send it to me.. lol. Also, guys Bitinstant has launched a WHOLE NEW site, its gonna have bugs, they will get u your money.

Just think, if you used BLUE SKY T it would be AT LEAST 24HRS,, were just spoiled getting them in a hour or less.. which im sure in a week or 2 at most it will be back to the same..

Also, if u put in fake info, put in real info, just not yours if thats the way your doing it. Plenty of sites are excepting bitcoin even on clearnet, so dont trip..

I love bitinstant an wont go anywhere else, as long as they dont ever start wanting me to upload my photo ID, which then, a good fake or some one elses is gonna have to due..

For those that are new and asked ,NO BITINSTANT DOES not themselves sell the coins, ZIPZAP sends them to your wallet on the BTC to address option.. I cant speak for the rest cause i see no need to jump through hoopes like sending it to MT.GOX THEN TO SR OR ANOTHER WALLET THEN SR.. Just send the money to your SR wallet.. TUMBLES THEN SHOWS!

Guysm if u go to Facebook, they will talk and respond to you asap..

I would say since its new, give them at least a full 24hrs.. THEN RAISE HELL.. Think about how flooded with order's they are right now..

24hrs at most guys, then complain everywhere u can.. As long as they are sending your info to ZIPZAP its really in ZIPZAPs hands after that for your coins to show up, or whoever it is zipzap gives the money to for coins..

Dont think im being a asshole, cause TRUST ME, i know BTC ARE TIME SENSITIVE IN MANY CASES... Iv been there. im still there 3 weeks after close to giving a certain site/person almost 800 bucks and have yet to get my coins..

I dont think iv been scammed at this point, cause i know from others it has happen a time or 2.. but im starting to lean every day tword ,SCAMMED..

My guess is this is their way of disabling cash deposits again since it seems most people aren't getting their money.

On Bitinstants blog on their website (don't have the exact URL but it's pretty easy to find) they have a post from April 10, 2013 addressing the issue of people not getting BTC right way sometimes.

Basically, it is along the lines of this:

With the increased demand for BTC through Bitinstant, their reserves of BTC run out more quickly.
They explain that the reason we are able get BTCs instantly through their service is not because we are trading instantly, it is because Bitinstant has already traded for those coins and they immediately deposit the coins into your wallet/BTC account.

They said when we give them money, they use that money to buy more BTCs but the exchanges they use to buy more BTC takes days. So, when hundreds or even thousands of more transactions suddenly take place at a given time, the reserves of BTCs they have already traded for run out, so when people go to get "instant" BTCs through say, a moneygram payment, there are quite literally no coins left for Bitinstant to give until they get the ones they are trading for with people's money from a few days ago.

if this is accurate, it sounds to me like why people aren't getting their coins right away today is because:
a) BTC prices are lower than they were a week ago so more people are putting in transactions
b) being down for the weekend is probably creating a flood of people trying to buy BTCs
c) allowing an increase in transaction limits is wiping reserves
d) Bitinstant did a very, very poor job realizing points a)-c) and planning for this. ::)

For those that are new and asked ,NO BITINSTANT DOES not themselves sell the coins, ZIPZAP sends them to your wallet on the BTC to address option.

You're partially correct. ZipZap is merely the money transmitter for BitInstant. They accept the moneygram transaction on BitInstant's behalf. It's actually Coinapult that sends the BTC to your wallet. Upon recieving your funds from ZipZap BitInstant uses Coinapult to send the BTC to the BTC address you specified.

Bitcoin-OTC. The original way BTC were designed to be distributed, P2P.

Yep, that's the gist of it.

Bitinstant, why? If it isn't broken, then don't fix it.

FINCEN regulation. Either conform to their regulations or face criminal charges like Mark Kerpeles (Mt.Gox Owner).

yes although im not sure about the coinapault. You deposit cash it transfers into btc into the designated wallet.

Coinapult only transfers BTC, they're not an exchange. You cannot give Coinapult FIAT in exchange for BTC. You give BitInstant cash and they then send you some BTC out of their reserves via Coinapult.

It says on the Coinapult website that they only transfer to email or phone and not wallets. Is this correct? And why would bitinstant not just send you funds directly from their own wallet to yours instead of going through Coinapult in the first place? Coinapult seems like an awesome service I just don't see why it's necessary, thanks.

Yes, but I believe that's for clients. I believe BitInstant owns Coinapult by the way they refer to it in their blog posts: "For those interested, much of this work involved switching Coinapult to Electrum and updating API calls." I believe Coinapult hosts their hot wallet, and they have the cold wallet located elsewhere.

AND NOW ITS FUCKED UP...

AND to the person that said" i dont understand why bitinstant doesnt send coins from their wallet"

Bit instant does not have the coins!! they dont have a wallet on the site with bitinstant coins.. Thats why u send them the money, they charge a fee, then they buy from a BTC seller, which also charges the fee, then they send your coins..

Im sure bitinstant owns coinpalt, but its a way to charge a fee here an a fee there..

If all else fails soon , blue sky traders is looking good,, even some SR btc vendors.. JUST NOT FOR 15% FUCK THAT..

But they do have BTC reserves. Remember back in March when they got hacked? Someone emptied all their BTC from Virwox after compromising their DNS. Now whether or not they send you BTC from their reserves or merely buy them at market rate only BitInstant knows.

Coinapult is a free service. Just look at the website.

Does "everything's going fine now" include you actually receiving the BTC?
This is the question we all need an answer to...
Yea dude I got my coins pretty quick. Remember that even if you do sign up with real info (which it seems you have to.. Fucking asshole bitinstant) then just send the shit to another bitcoinwallet address and then send it to your road one. I send mine straight to SR with no problems at all (knock on wood). I'm pretty sure that LE can see you purchased BTC if they want, however, I am of the understanding that they cannot pinpoint where the BTC went. I feel safe because BTC isn't illegal to purchase at all. Besides none of us even use SR remember  ;)

I keep getting the error "Amount requested exceeds your per-transaction cash limit!"
I'm trying to buy 250 USD worth of BTC. They said that their limit is 500, not sure what's going on here.

Thinking about trying out blue sky traders if bitinstant doesn't get their shit together by tomorrow.

Where did you get that idea? Every BTC transaction is publicly logged in the Blockchain. The only thing keeping someone from pinpointing where BTC went is time and resources. This is why it's smart to always use a new BTC address both in your wallet and on SR for every transaction as well as tumbling.

Check your BTC addresses BlockChain info and you will see nothing about SilkRoad or anything regarding a .onion domain.

That's irrelevent. Just look on bitcointalk.org. It's well known the Bitcoind instance that SR uses. There is actually a way to configure your Bitcoind to _not_ confirm any transactions to or from SR. The actual wallet addresses change frequently, the Bitcoind instance does not.

On a side note, I offer a moneygram/western union ---> bitcoin exchange service if anyone is interested!

Thanks all!

Not sure if serious? If you are it's all documented at official Bitcoin wiki here:
***CLEARNET***
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoind
***CLEARNET***

But the basic gist is that in order for transactions to be processed they must be forwarded from a Bitcoin daemon (bitcoind) to other daemon's for confirmation. So even if you keep changing your wallet addresses the Bitcoind will remain the same. So all someone has to do is see all transactions that originate from SR's Bitcoind to see all associated addresses. Then they can correlate those addresses with transactions in the Blockchain to see what addresses are sending and receiving to those SR addresses.

Same, got coins recently too, just as quick as a few weeks ago. Seems like they got the bugs worked out and the issue is just those who deposited on Tuesday and Wednesday and maybe Thursday too that have their coins in limbo.

It appears that is exactly what he is saying.

Are you saying that LE can tell that you deposited your coins into a SR address?

Yes. That's why it's important to not reveal personal information when purchasing bitcoins as they can then trace the bitcoins you purchased directly to SR removing plausible deniability.

There's a common misconception that BTC are some magical untraceable currency... this couldn't be further from the truth.

They could see that the BTCs are going to SR, but can't actually see what those BTCs are being used for on SR, correct?

I don't know why bitinstant would have so many problems. And to announce a reopening on facebook, of all places? That sounds really lame, I don't think I'd trust these jokers anymore, not that I ever have.

Apparently there were some bugs in their new site when it launched, probably some errors in the code. Also, their announcement was not only on FB it was also on Twitter, their website, reddit, etc.

This is correct. Although given SR's infamy I would imagine this would be enough to flag your address.
