an infection wouldnt instantaneously pop up into a huge boil. bacteria exhibit a lag phase of growth before the exponential growth kicks in during which they have to realize theyre in the appropriate environment and start producing the cellular machinery for reproduction, which generally takes at least a few hours.

an infection will also be very red and tender, with the swelling and redness spreading outward. if you come down with a fever IMMEDIATE medical attention is absolutely necessary because it could be indicative of sepsis where bacteria get into your bloodstream and reproduce systemically

I dont shoot, but it sounds like something other than an infection, more like what I have heard of when people miss.

I hope you sterilized the needle. If you did, you shouldn't even be wondering if you have an infection, so I'm going to go ahead and assume that you didn't for the remainder of this paragraph: you're a moron for not sterilizing your needle, goddamnit what the fuck is wrong with you, you fucking fuck? Holy shit balls Jesus cunt Christ. this is some serious bullshit you just pulled on yourself.

There. I feel much better now. Moving on to your problem:

Infections don't happen "immediately". It takes time - even if just a few minutes - for symptoms to show. What happened was either a bruise, a small bleed from nicking a vein, or maybe even an allergic reaction to the syringe. But it's certainly no sign of infection, especially since it hasn't changed since.

If you did not sterilize your needle, the fact that this one thing isn't a sign of infection doesn't mean you're infection-free. Go to a fucking doctor and be more careful next time.

If you did sterilize your needle, then relax. You have nothing to worry about. 8)

Yeah I used a new sterile needle.  I missed a vein in a different spot then cleaned the needle with a wipe and injected at this site.  Both injection sites were sterilized and cleaned.

Okay, I took some antohistamines and iced it abit and the swelling has gone down.  So I think im okay.

I used a different rig to cook itup in, do you think I could have been allergic to the kind of metal the spoon was made out of?

Sounds like you missed, and had a histamine rxn at the injection site.  If the Benadryl helped with the swelling, it would seem to confirm this theory.  You should be fine...

HOWEVER:  Keep an eye on it.  If you notice it getting red, swelling up again, or faint red streaks under the skin moving away from the injection site, then don't waste time posting here- just go to a doctor and get some antibiotics.  Last thing you want is an abcess!

Yes, that seems to be a good theory, especially since the antihistamine helped. You should be fine now, but heed cacoethes's advice:

also, watch your nails. If you get tiny spots under them, don't walk, RUN to the hospital!

That's what I was thinking until he mentioned Benadryl effectively getting rid of it. Infections are no joke; I'd get to a doctor ASAP if you feel strange or notice any more shit under your skin.

Today all the symptoms cleared up.  So I must have missed and just had a reaction to the stuff.  Veins in the hand are hard to hit!

Speaking as a very experienced long term IV user, I would highly recommend NOT shooting in your hands unless you have no spots in the other parts of your arms to hit.  If you must, make sure that you are using a short tip (5/16") needle syringe, with a 31 gauge or 30 gauge MAX.  Otherwise you're just asking to blow out a vein, get vein leakage, etc.  Likely it slipped and you had a histamine reaction.  Sounds from your post like you are new to IV use.  Take some time to do more research online as there are a ton of better spots and having nasty tracks on your hands are pretty hard to hide man.

I used a 29g 3/8" needle.   Will take your advice and not shoot in hands anymore.  Got an unsightly bruise on my hand from that injection.   Also there is a bulge in one of the other hand veins I injected in.   Yeah im new to IVing.   How many times can I inject into the same spot safely?

Read the PDF guide posted in the sticky thread on IM injection, please!!!

Also, you can shoot in the same spot multiple times, this is what usually creates track marks.   It is stupid, people go just a few millimeters up or down from where they last hit on a vein and it creates a lot of internal scarring.  The bumps on your hand will go away.  A 29 gauge is totally fine for hitting the crook of your elbow or backsides of your arms.  Get a friend who knows how to IV to show you what to do, watch some videos on youtube, and most importantly -- DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! -- USE A NEW NEEDLE FOR **EVERY SINGLE SKIN PUNCTURE*** AND ESPECIALLY ROTATE YOUR SPOTS!!! I've been shooting for about 10 years and you'd never know it because I rotate my spots.  I inject cocaine up to 50 times a day sometimes and only then will I get some noticeable marks but they go away quickly because I have done the research to figure out how to do things right.  Go slowly bro, once you turn to the spike you don't turn back.  If you ever have any questions feel free to PM me.

Shit, did the same thing again.  I think I poked through the vein.  Swelled up again.   Doesnt look like its gonna get worse.

Think it would be safe to shoot up again? I didnt get a rush from the last shot cause it was skin popped.

Fook! those are the worst, not entirely wasted tho, as it still enters your system, just not the full rush you were expecting i think....

yeah...be careful with that...just cuz you missed doesn't mean you just wasted that H...it's still in your system, and if you took another big shot right away you are risking possible OD....just be careful, and think a little bit before re-dosing.

wait what are you people talking about here...  first of all that was a miss and you injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subcutaneous_injection - under the skin) - the heroin gets absorbed by your body and you get high in about 5 mins. I've sone considerable amounts of SC injections due to unavailability of needles ( for example having 23g needle and not wanting to stab a vein - have shaky hands). so I just inject under the skin.  The bubble sometimes quite big appears and after a while is gone. never had a problem - you risk abscess if you;re in bad health but is still IV is safer than SC.

Also change injection sites, inject only in hands, do not inject into the same spot or vein (well try not to). Why in hands ? because they're more resistant to abscesses and onfections than other parts of your body. Rotation means trying to avoid same spot or same vein and letting one heal while using another - thats vein saving - never lost a vein YET but I'm getting lazy and just going to the easiest spots and they already developed bruising, so for your own sake rotate injectuon  sites.

Fuck dude, you are not hitting a vein at all. When you hit the arteries in your hands they will swell like a bitch but then go down slowly as the H gets pulled back out of your capillary beds.

It going into the capillary beds is what is causing the swelling.

Are you by chance hitting between the index finger and thumb? There is a good size artery there. A decent vein too, but once the vein gets beat people start digging a little deeper and hit that artery.

wrong advice yet again... when you inject into artery the blood will be not thick and well it's kinda lighter colour than the dark blood you get from veins.. when you inject into artery your whole hand swells up and lumps form up on your whole hand... YOU SHOULD HAVE PAIn - but I never had somehow .. Also you get high in 15-20 mins because arteries bring blood away from your heart. Only had a few accidental arteries injections, the whole hand was itchy as hell though and was very scared because i've seen necrosis due to arterial injection and amputations. he did SC injection thats all nothing so serious if heroin is clean and filtered and he is healthy. Lump is just solution he injected under his skin which I'm sure now is disappeared.

I have had arterial injections where the whole hand swells and even part of the arm, I have had them where it stayed localized to the site.

If the swelling went down all the way within 20 minutes it is not a miss.
