Title: Silk Roads new name
Post by: cindylove on February 05, 2012, 07:22 am
So, the Satoshi of Silk Road has chosen a new handle for him/her/themselves - Dread Pirate Roberts. A quick google search uncovered something interesting:

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dread_Pirate_Roberts
The Dread Pirate Roberts is a fictional character in the novel The Princess Bride and its film adaptation.[1]
At the beginning of The Princess Bride, the only thing known concerning the Dread Pirate Roberts is that he never leaves captives alive.

It is revealed during the course of the story that Roberts is not one man, but a series of individuals who periodically pass the name and reputation to a chosen successor. Everyone except the successor and the former Roberts is then released at a convenient port, and a new crew is hired. The former Roberts stays aboard as first mate, referring to his successor as "Captain Roberts", and thereby establishing the new Roberts' persona. After the crew is convinced, the former Roberts leaves the ship and retires on his earnings.

...start a new enterprise, or step back and operate some key components w/o getting hands dirty and jump ship....

I sorta get the meaning behind it yet 'Dread Pirate Roberts' doesn't exactly roll off the tongue like SR does. I guess we could call him DPR?

I'm going to continue the "SilkRoad" ID, Capt. Robert's, with all due respect. I joined silkroad and I'm stickin with silkroad. You want to change the CocaCola recipe, knock yourself out.

By the way, who won the bullshit contest. You'd figure it would be posted on SR where the play the game post is still posted and you can't get to because it was deleted off this site.

I do not care what his name is. As long as we are secure and working to build a better tomorrow together. I simply do not care what his name is or why.  Good for you buddy. Whatever you call yourself.

Personally though, I would have not gone the pirate route. Too many funny comments could be made. Lol.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. I am glad DPR has a meaning behind it because honestly by itself it is kinda lame  8)
