Title: RIP Atlantis
Post by: Steffan_T on September 01, 2013, 11:09 am
As you may have read, Atlantis shut down overnight, with "Vladimir" and "Loera" having disappeared, along with the emptying of all wallets on the site. As late as Thursday, they claimed that their failing site would overtake SR "within a year".

"One such site has been the Silk Road which earns millions in its sale of illegal drugs.  In fact it has become so successful that other start-ups are trying to compete for customers by setting up their own sites for selling drugs and other illegal items in a cyber turf-war. One such start-up, Atlantis, has reported 500 sign-ups per day and has 50,000 registered users and expects to over-take the Silk Road within a year."

Really? Any evidence for this? I hope you're wrong, as I have 0.9 BTC there.

If you are sure they're scamming, and not coming back, stick a bet on here with any spare BTC (clearnet) http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=1343

"The TOR litecoin shop called Atlantis will disappear before Dec 31, 2013
The bet is that the site will go permanently offline for any reason before that date."

Nobody is gone anywhere :)

Site is down for brief maintenance period and this is just a terrible attempt by the OP to spread uncertainty and doubt.
If somebody even wanted to do a runner would it not be easier to leave the site online and keep the scam running.

Oh wait...That would make sense :P

Really not a surprise at all...

What the fuck was so bad about SR that
We needed an alternative anyway?

Really not a surprise at all...

What the fuck was so bad about SR that
We needed an alternative anyway?

The commission rates? The cost of vendor entry? The fanboi culture? Being the number one target for LE?

I love SR, and as I believe that every company needs a competitor to stop things stagnating, I welcome new market entrants with a different pitch, or even a blatant "me-too" feel, as it's good to keep things moving here.

I really will be sorry if Atlantis and/or BMR disappear.

I guess the commission rates are still lower than what I am used to paying.
The new vendor entry is only a loan though.

However I do agree with you about the fanboy culture and the need for competition though.
Just look at the LMP1 category in the American Le Mans Series hahaha

Or the LMP1 category in every series for that matter

As for LE, that's what the vendor startup cost is for.

Also, they won't come after us because nobody has
Jurisdiction over the internet

Then how come your post yesterday is titled, "Atlantis is gone."

Seems to me you're the stupid fucking cunt that's spreading misinformation. No wonder that shitty little knockoff site can't stay online. Even the owners are spreading misinformation. Just a ruse to buy time while all the coins are being stolen.

I remember using OVDB way before SR.

Wasn't Farmers Market pre-Silk Road too?

lol doesn't surprise me at all!  The name alone gives it away.. Think about it;  The city of Atlantis, a thriving community with the top minds, culture, technology, and freedom of trade within the known ancient world, suddenly disappears overnight.  Reclaimed by the ocean, lost forever.

It was bound to happen!  :p

So many conflicting reports about this... if anyone has any new information, please share!
