How crucial is having good cred on SR?
Also, how could I buildup some? I have no previous purchases, I don't plan on buying any unnecessary crap to get up to 5 or 10 transactions so I wouldn't have to FE. I'm not really a social person so I won't be that active on the forums. But I want to come across as a good guy and not a scammer. Help? :(

Welcome,
Well the best way to build cred is to basically be a good person all around. Making a bunch of crap purchases won't help anyways because if the vendor takes time to look at your buyer stats and sees 10 purchases and only 3-5 bitcoin spent they know what you are up to.
Honestly the forums are a great way to build your reputation without making purchases. I think you should reconsider not being very helpful in the forums. Of you know an answer to something or have an opinion then voice it. It's a great way to get your name out there and it lets people know what you are about. Also when you make purchases don't let them auto-finalize. Meaning once you get your goods release the funds. There are vendors out there that allow everyone to stay in escrow even new users. Stick with them in the beginning. If you must finalize early use trusted vendors so your stats do not get messed up.
Honestly just be yourself and don't screw anyone and your credibility will come with time.

Yes, I am new here to and am still amazed at the size of this whole thing. I am sure this pisses of many people who are losing out on money and power.
I really want to buy some clean heroin/opium and smoke it like I am the count of monte cristo. I guess I need to start lurking here more often so once i verify my account and get bit coins its not too much of a hassle to do business. tired of mexican black tar smuggled in vaginas

Come suck me off, I'll tell everyone how good of a guy you are ;)

Its really easy to get good stats. You have to buy stuff.
Get some bit coins, choose a trusted vendor and spend them on something you'd like. Surely you've used e-bay before. Pretty much the same rules apply.
Just don't spend on here more than you can afford to lose.

Speaking of which, I can't see my stats in my Silk Road account.
Number of transactions, amount of bitcoin spent, refunds, etc.
Or am I missing something?

I sell Creds by the BTC. I Cred = 1 BTC. How many do you want? 100 Creds? ;D
lol

I'm new here too, only have 3 transac's under my belt. I'd like to know how I can view sellers' feedback on here to double check they're legit! Is there a specific thread?
-
There are very reputable vendors here that don't require FE even for new buyers. Start small, treat them right (finalize when the product arrives and leave honest feedback) and go from there.
If what you're looking for requires you to FE then pick the vendor with the best stats (tenure, feedback), not necessarily the best price and stay reasonably small. This is how you build cred.
Oh, and once you have it, don't FE anymore, escrow is for your protection, it's easy for someone to set up an account and bolt with thousands of dollars, a good rule is if it's too good to be true, it probably is.
Peace

It's not really that hard to build cred without screwing yourself in a scam. A lot of people tell you not to finalize early no matter what, but honestly you may have to for your first few purchases. The key is to really explore a vendor's feedback page and Rumor Mill thread before going with him. Make sure nothing seems fishy. Go with a vendor who is in the top 10% of vendors on all of the Silk Road and finalize early if they require it for new buyers. Trust me, you're almost certainly not going to get screwed by a vendor that has a 100% feedback rating with over 300 sales and a Rumor Mill thread filled with glowing reviews. Just be smart. Unless you're from the Netherlands, don't purchase from there because you're basically just asking for your package to get intercepted. Try and buy from someone in the same country/continent if possible, although if you're in the U.S., there are a number of European vendors that have no problems shipping overseas. I finalized early for my first couple of purchases without any issues using the above method. And there are vendors that I still finalize early for just as a courtesy because they're so professional and consistent. But now my buyer stats are more than enough to ensure that I can stay out of escrow if I so choose. Just don't expect that luxury when you have no purchases and could easily scam an established vendor.
Welcome to paradise. Enjoy your newfound freedom. Just remember that freedom means you need to be responsible.

You should message Vendors on SR as well, talk to them about what you want to purchase. Any decent seller wont mind discussing things with a customer. I certainly don't. :)

This ^^. Find vendors who don't require FE for new buyers.
Or use vendors with stellar reputation who do require FE. Message them before ordering, introduce yourself. The good vendors here are also good people, and a little pleasant communication with them can go a long way.
Be patient. Sometimes this process takes longer than we like, especially when you're fumbling around and everything is unfamiliar. If you research your vendors first, and by that I mean research them here, in the forums, you should have good experiences and smooth sailing. Don't rely on feedback or the numbers after their names alone.
PM people on the forums and ask for advice. I wouldn't mind, I don't think most other people here would, either. There are some grumpy trolls that come around that might care, but you can spot them in just a few posts.
If you have a problem with a vendor, discuss it with them, and remember that you get further with people when you're pleasant and not completely inflexible. No one wants to read about it in the forums if you haven't tried to reasonably work it out with your vendor first.
Other'n that, have fun. I love this place.

[...] or have an opinion then voice it.[...]
This can also get you hated very quickly.
I often keep my opinions to myself on websites, though I just let myself out here, didn't turn out well. :\
Definitely being active on the forums, and being a nice person in general.
Start buying small, here and there.
Talk to vendors, if they've shipped to your country before and things. (if they're not busy as fuck, don't spam 'em :)
Generally you know, same things in real-life, be what people like.
I kind of wish I did this now that I've started buying...
-
Just be honest and try to stay in escrow whenever possible...

Good info, BUT, how does finalizing early with bad vendors mess up stats?

I have wondered this also. We generally don't require it so I have no idea. Do FE's mess up a members stats?
Did I mention we seldom request anyone FE with us? :)
When you can use DCN, who needs it? If you can prove it made it there, we get our money either way. Even if it takes a bit in resoloution to prove someone is a liar. Not even sure how often that really happens....It's something I'm still afraid of. I state on my page that I require it for some people, but I don't think I will ever really enforce it until it becomes a problem.
As far as I know, FE does not mess up a buyers stats. Why would it? It was a "successful transaction" as far as stats go. Now, buying from bad vendors and having to get a refund would mess up your stats. I think maybe this is what they are thinking of?

It messed with mine as I FE'd early, the vendor used poor shipping methods or never shipped, had to refund me, so that shows on my stats, plus I had a two vendors cancel my order. Not sure if that shows as a refund or not.
-
thanks for the reply, PharmaKarma,
I am very new here, studying up hard, trying to learn everyone and and everything I need to before I make my first buy in maybe a month or two.
As a new buyer who is purchasing tiny quantities of RC's, would it be better for me to cut my losses on a lost shipment from a reputable dealer instead of asking for a refund?
I would never want a refund, just the stuff. Would asking for a reship damage my buyers status?
-
I would believe the things people do for their desires and addictions.

Pal,
You don't want a refund, you want to convince the vendor to cancel;)
So be nice to him/her.
A refund counts like something questionable happened.
If a vendor suspects they could have screwed up, they should offer to cancel.
Then it's no big deal for you.
The best vendor do all this and more.
Nothing wrong with asking for a reship. Problem is many small time new buyers pull this scam too much.
It's better if they offer the reship ;) Get it?
Why would a vendor do that? and they do it!
Cause they want your repeat biz.
Like that movie Road House, The bouncer training, "be nice", "be polite"
FE's don't count against but for you. Even if you got ripped off.
DPR like to make that escrow fee so the BTC amount adds on cancels, and FE's.
Jaurk,
Nothing wrong with expressing opinions, just take the negative heat.
It's a part of life. Not all us crazies will always agree.
You got to be half nuts to be here anyhow.
You get positive points by doing nice things, like reviews, or helping.
-
@Uniwiz, I couldn't make the vendor cancel, as he requested FE as my buyers account did not have the stats at the time. Does now. ::)
Good explanation as usual though Uni.

Ya, it takes a while, to learn the game.
I have lost a few BTC learning :'(
The biggest rip off is the trading of BTC. Too many traders stealing people's money.
FE sucks.......
OOE was much much better :P
If I'm going to chance an FE, why don't I go outside SR and send the BTC directly saving costs?
No escrow costs, same chance of rip-off. ::)
Of course I know the answer. :-*

Nice I am currently in the process of building creditability to apply for a bitcoin loan in order to start up a small local network.
I am going to need an excellent supply of South American (or Japanese) cocaine, Afghani Heroin, and Ketamine .
No actual funds deposited but I just wanted to let fellow forum members and vendors who browse know so if they see me asking for a larger than usual first buy they can recognize my name :)
Ugh now we just need to do something about these prices...
100 us for a gram of south american blow? Come on man...
:)

Stay out of the 'hot' areas. Heroin is one of these. I started out in opiates, pain pills that is...lots of honest friendly vendors. After I'd done that a couple of months, I went into heroin. This area seems to attract scammers. It's easy to get scammed. Vendors send out a few good shipments, and then often they do their own product and get all strung out and just can't keep up with the whole thing, and pull a flim flam and go.
But mostly just hang out, learn about security, pgp...try to help other new guys learn the ropes. People take note. Be nice to new vendors, they're having a hard enough time of it as it is...mostly just takes some study. I've never had to fight a vendor. I just finalize and move on. If my shit doesn't show--and this has happened a few times, I'll mention it to vendor, and then just figure it's my mailman getting high.
I've gotten pissed--did it today, but I just feel bad when I do that, and usually I"m wrong anyway. There's no quick way to get cred, nor should there be.

I just do whatever the fuck I want it and usually works out alright. 8)
