Title: Trustworthy VPN providers that accept BTC (or other anon form of payment)
Post by: moxycotton on July 13, 2012, 06:56 pm
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, trustworthy VPN provider that accepts Bitcoins and that I can use TOR through? I want to set this up for added security. I know my set up right now is entirely safe, but it is a bit more of a hassle then I'd like (for reasons that I can't disclose for security purposes).  Any help is appreciated!

I have no experience with this company, but I do know that mullvad.net accepts bitcoins for VPN service.  Here is their page that shows their fees in BTC.  https://mullvad.net/en/bitcoin.php

Hadn't heard of any that excepts BTC as payment but I would think your best bet would be to look into a service that is overseas as it would be harder for anyone to obtain info.

Thanks. Yeah it seems like most people don't think a VPN will help with security really. And my setup already matches most of the security recommendations that I've seen. I guess I'll just have to read through all the security threads and see if there is anything else I can do to improve it, or if I have any possible issues. Thanks for the help! :)

No VPN does help allot. But whatever service you use make sure you find out what they can and cannot do regarding your info. Google for something called JonDonym.

if you're using a vpn you're probably fucking retarded since you're relying on a promise from a stranger to not reveal your membership as a tor user. obfsproxy is way better since it gets its security from a technical design, not a promise. people can lie, math can never lie ;)

Good point, I've heard of that and I'll check it out :).

https://xerobank.com/

As far as anon VPNs go, this is the one to go with. A birdie on my shoulder told me that they were originally founded by the cDc.

You pay with regular credit card but your unique user ID is randomized and there's no way of telling what data belongs to which client.

Do I trust them? Yes

Do I pay for their service? Nope. 30 bux a month is too rich for my blood.

as far as VPNs, i'd say they are the best for privacy.

And you person, are pretty cheeky with your assumptions and accusations as you obviously cannot READ and see that someone had posted to look into VPN's that don't/can't give out info.

Check out Somono on SR.  He sells Ivacy.com accounts (1 year term) for about $15 in bitcoin.

do you really think the feds don't set up vpns in countries like finland or ukraine and advertise them as not keeping logs or cooperating with authorities? look up the details of the shadowcrew/darkprofits bust sometime

here's something else to chew on, they'd always advertise them on illicits or carding forums. makes you wanna think twice about xerobank now huh?

I am well aware of the operations those faggot fedz do like the shadowcrew honey pot. yes, it happens. They take over and wait till they get lots of evidence, then they do busts. Shit happens.

I've never seen xerobank advertized on illicit websites.

from wikipedia:
Quote
xB Browser is optimized for use on the XeroBank anonymity network, which is a private and commercial broadband network operated by Xero Networks AG.[13] The XeroBank network routes traffic through at least two multi-jurisdictional hops.[citation needed] In contrast to Tor, the XeroBank network supports both TCP and UDP protocols, performs channel multiplexing for low observability, is run by a single entity and costs money to use. The XeroBank network is accessible via SSH and OpenVPN protocols. xB Browser internally manages a SSH connection to XeroBank, but will recognize and submit to OpenVPN connections.

Is it possible that xerobank are working in conjunction with fedz? Yup! absolutely!

Do I believe it's likely? Not at all. They were some of the original pioneers of anonymous browsing techniques, working along side tor developers.

Also; you can always pay with a pre-paid gift card/credit card. If some one were to buy me a subscription to xerobank, I'd use it.

I guess I can't judge Steve for this while ignoring the lead Tor devs history. But I absolutely do not trust that Steve has a fucking clue and actually I am quite certain that he does not.

i read your whole post. you actually sound like you know what you're talking about. thanks for the heads up
