Title: TRACING BTC ADDRESS
Post by: bangbang21 on June 13, 2013, 10:37 am
hi guys,

say a vendor on SR gives their account wallet address to an undercover agent acting as a customer.  can the cops then trace the address back to the exchange and bust the vendor if the exchange has his/her identity ?

thanks

i know you can trace addresses from the blockchain by just simply typing it in,

https://blockchain.info/

but can the vendor be busted this way...?

.
It's good to be very cautious, and it's a fine line between paranoia.

I no longer use block chain, so perhaps you could answer your own question to me.

But vendor addresses are given away! it doesn't compromise their true identity in any way. Only gives access to there pseudonym. there fake name and site.

see my listing address? http://silkroadvb5piz3r.onion/silkroad/item/271e551392

hope i answered your question and may the community help

ANYONE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG PLEASE!

Yes and no surely? If the vendor's IP is associated with the address then they could possibly get a warrant on that then work from there, but if they run bitcoin through TOR, a proxy or on a website instead of the client I don't see how they could?

thats what the tor network is for. in makes your real ip anonymous. as long as you keep your two lives seperate, you should be fine. dont ever do any sr related searches and dont ever ever ever mention your sr name outside of the tor network. likewise, dont ever check your facebook or work email or what ever else it is that you do on the computer in real life*EDIT: while on the tor network*. you have 2 identities now... they should NEVER NEVER NEVER meet.
