After screwing around with this for years, I found the answer is so obvious, something designed almost for the purpose:
The sphygmomanometer
That's right, the ordinary blood pressure cuff. You can order a manual one on Amazon or eBay for about $20. Put it on the arm you're injecting in and hold the inflation bulb in the same hand. Inflate the bulb and after you find your vein, the release valve is right there in the same hand.
Just thought I would share my discovery with the world. Has anyone else used this technique?
