Title: Tor dns socket
Post by: wasta on July 30, 2013, 05:33 am
Tor problem

The site you are going to can be seen in the dns server.

Type about:config in a new tab

(promise to be careful)

search for websocket.

Go to network websocket enabled.

Doubleclick or enter to change from true into false.

Now your isp or whoever runs the dns-server can not see to which site you are going.

not a problem if you use tor browser bundle. Also I think your advice is just flat out incorrect, you would change network.proxy.socks_remote_dns to be true.

Oh now I see what you are saying. In the past there was a DNS leak associated with this being set to true, and setting it to false fixed the DNS leak. In the current TBB this has been fixed already and it can remain set on true without risk of DNS leaks, and it probably should be left on true.

This was fixed over a year ago.

Should have done some research...

I have to many cd's I can burn and to little dvd's.

Everyone that comes along and finds it interesting I give a cd with tails.
It's old and unsafe, but fits on a cd.

The tbb that comes along is old too.
My tails is from may 12 in 2012, so I just missed the fix.

I will update (at least) my usb with the latest tails.

Thank you kmfewm for adding the right info.
