Here's my situation. I have what appears to be a very reputable vendor who sells all his listings in 1g orders, but he does offer OZ+ orders through PM.
Thing is hes asking for me to send him the bitcoins through the "send bitcoins to member" option in account settings for my large order. I just dont like the idea
of not being able to resolve it should the parcel not arrive.
What are the rules on Silk Road for this kind of thing?

I'm pretty sure this is against SR rules.. and gets vendors banned
Also from a buyers standpoint there's no point.. No escrow!! You're asking to be fucked over doing that

just ask him to put up a private custom listing for you i cant see why he wouldnt that just sounds a little bit dodgy asking you to send him coins that way
