Just stumbled across onion browser and started using it just for casual window shopping so to speak :)
but I'm a bit worried it isnt up to scratch with liberte/tails/standard tor brower in terms of security and anonymity :-\

Correct. Window browse, thats all. Onion Browser is absolutly not as secure as something like TAILS or Liberte.
It's not anonymous just in the respect that by downloading the Onion Browser from the appstore, you've already left what could become a slightly incriminating e-paper trail.
I believe there are some other security issues with DNS leaks too. Who knows what could be leaked in memory if the user runs a jailbroken device or backs up while the app is open.
I'd feel comfortable browsing the forums as a guest using Onion Browser, thats all. If I were a vendor, not even that.
