Title: customs involved in domestic packages?
Post by: osiris153 on March 20, 2012, 11:58 pm
okay, so i was previously under the assumption that customs did not have anything to do with domestic packages...

however, last wednesday  a package was supposedly sent from canada to canada.

when i check the tracking number i was provided, there is no status update saying "Item dropped off at postal facility" or "Item processed at postal facility", the first and only status update of my package (and its on SATURDAY, when the package was apparently sent on wednesday) says "   Item was released by Customs and is now with Canada Post for processing" in a city that is close to the senders location.

i am very confused and want to know what the possibilities are surrounding my situation and how likely i am to recieve my product?

That's weird. I've never heard of anything like that happening before...

Could be possible that the sorting facility for that parcel goes through another country before being delivered?  Sort of like how Air carriers will fly you around in weird segments based off their hubs for pricing reasons.  For instance if you fly United Airlines in the States and you want to fly Los Angeles to Miami they'll probably route you through Chicago since it's one of their hubs and would cost less because of the volume of flights??  That's just an example and shouldn't be taken literally, but I think you get the point.  Perhaps the carrier that you were mailing through might actually take the mail out of the country and back in first?  Or I have heard of mail getting pushed by accident through the custom areas of a mail hub and once that happens the piece of mail is fair game for them to open, regardless if it is domestic or not.

Just trying to throw out ideas here.
