The FBI might legally hack us soon - worldwide - for using TOR

On December 1, an "update" to Rule 41 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure takes effect unless Congress blocks it. The info sounds dry as dust until you realize the change lets the FBI hack remotely into the phones and control the computers of Tor users. The target doesn't have to commit a cybercrime; he may even be a victim of crime. [...] If a person uses Tor, the FBI is empowered to get a discreet warrant that allows them to hack a computer and follow wherever the connection leads. In theory, with a single secret warrant, the agency could grab control of tens of thousands or millions of computers on a botnet.

Why is this a post again. THis has been posted tons of times already, and as its been explained tons of time, it total and uitter bullshit. Everything in this posters post is bogus. It is inaccurate and outright false. The law changes they are talking about do absolutely NOTHING OF THE SORT that the post claims. Lets get the facts right, instead of spreading FUD and misinformation. You DO HAVE TO COMMIT A CRIME. It doesnt allow them to just hack into ANY tor user. Only people they can present legal evidence that they commited a crime in order to get a warrent. All the legal change does, is allow them to get the warrent without having to know exactly which court has juridiction where the criminal is located. Because they are using Tor, obviously they dont know what court to apply to for the warrent. But hey still have to meet al the requirements in order t get that warrent, and that warrant has to be issued and is specific only to that individual and their machine. These people spreading this misinformation would have you believe that just using Tor gives them pemission to hack you without warrents. That is totally false. Warrents are still required, and using Tor is not what allows them to get it. Commiting a crime that they can provide reasonable evidence for, does. The using Tor is not part of that evidence or what allows them to do anything. Please stop spreading lies, its irresponsible.

isn't using a vpn still "intentionally concealing through use of technology"?

fuck the feds.

I will go to public coffee shop or fast food restaurants and will use TOR there

If you are in the US or anywhere in the five eyes countries you need to start masking your TOR usage. They are coming for privacy and encryption and don't seem to be afraid to start knocking down some doors. Recent news also leads me to believe that TOR or Tails alone won't be good enough by itself. You need a VPN or open networks.
