Yeah the attitude of kill them all really gets me annoyed.
First the thought of killing a person based on something they do probably in the privacy of their own home that does not effect anyone else is basically the definition of insanity.
That one idea further removes these people from being actual human beings that have empathy, logic and compassion.
I always go to town on them on FB, they one I like to use the most is
"You do realise that there are many drug addicts out there that when you add up all of their positive traits are actually not only better people than you, they are a more productive and useful member of society than you are but hey at least you are not breaking the law & that's got to count for something"
The other one is "Do you think you are better than them?"
Whole heap of others but you cannot win against obnoxious mixed with ignorance.

Education, education and more education.
I was reading a mainstream news article the other day about how fent is killing heroin addicts in high numbers, and the comments on the article were unbelievable. Person after person basically posting "Good" and "kill more of them" and a number of people asking if fent could be added to other drugs "so we can get rid of all of the addicts." Probably posted while on their fourth beer or glass of wine, after a day of drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes and maybe taking some of that Ativan the doctor prescribed for when that blood pressure shoots up at the thought of all of those "worthless druggies."
I still remember Nixon announcing the beginning of the "war on drugs" in 1971. To be honest, most people who weren't freaked-out Fifties squares just laughed at it -- how do you declare "war" on such an enormous category of substances and circumstances? How can you control people's behavior on that level? It just didn't seem possible. Nixon's declaration was taken by most of us as flimsy political grandstanding and a sort of a natural outgrowth of his well-known utter hatred of "dirty hippies" (Richard Nixon was the ultimate Fifties square. :) ) Crypto-fascist conservatives like the John Birch Society applauded madly, of course, but most people didn't take it too seriously, especially after Nixon's impeachment and Carter rolling back a lot of the mandatory sentencing guidelines. But then comes Reagan, who played to his (cocaine-hoovering, martini-drinking) base by making the Drug War a major part of both of his terms but constructing it more as a war on poor people and ethnic people than drugs.
So now here we are forty-five years later amid the smoking ruins of endless destroyed lives, wasted money, and eroded civil liberties. Now we are seeing the end result of decades of vicious, lying propaganda fed to the US public to demonize drugs (or rather, the "wrong" drugs) and the people who use them, to the point where it starts to seem like a good and natural idea to ordinary, presumably decent people to commit wholesale slaughter. "They'd be no loss" was a common refrain with the people commenting on that story. None of the commenters on that story stopped to think "That was someone's son or daughter, that could be someone I love, that could be me" -- nope, no compassion, no understanding, just kill 'em all, because they're subhuman just like everyone else who isn't exactly like them. The USA has become a very fucked-up place. :(
