Electrum has recently been updated fairly significantly, and the switch to version 3 also mandated a server update from the servers. While I would think newer server should be able to work with old clients, there are many reports saying they don't.

What that means for you is that you need to find old servers and manually set those as the ones to connect to, wait for another tails release that has Electrum 3 in it, or upgrade Electrum manually in Tails to the latest version. Those are kind of the only three choices.

TL;DR wait for the next Tails update and it should work again.

IMPORTANT side note: Electrum versions prior to version 3.0.5 were vulnerable to attack if the wallet didn't have a good password. Any other program, or any site with javascript enabled, can access your Electrum wallet if you have a version lower than 3.0.5. The stock software in Tails is *probably* safe, so if you have JS disabled and don't use anything but the standard software, you're *probably* ok, but to be extra safe, you should make sure you give your wallet a strong password, even if you are just using Electrum temporarily for a session.

When I had your problem I googled it and found a thread on reddit that told me the following:

Applications>Tails>Configure Persistance Volume>Re-select all appropriate applications ie Electrum. Restart system.

You're welcome. Also, this question was best posed at r/darknetmarketsnoobs for future reference.

I've encountered this bug twice. electrum wouldn't sync, then just straight up would not open. here's how I fixed it:

On the top menu bar, Places > Home > click 3-line menu button (top right) > select Show Hidden Files

open "Electrum" folder > [BACK UP FILES] > delete "blockchain_headers" and "config"

maybe restart Tails. maybe remove/reinsert thumb drive before restart.

If Electrum is opening but isn't connecting:

open electrum application > click red circle (bottom right) > set Proxy: SOCKS5 > OK

Use the most updated version of electrum. 3.0.5.
