How come markets last way longer than they used to?

I remember when it was just inevitable that a market would go down. It was always like "how long will this one last" but now a days it seems like the big markets are staying around for a long time. I mean maybe some smaller ones have come and/or left, but for example Alphabay has long been the biggest one and is usually the one mentioned when the news references the markets. Is there something different now a days or what has changed?

To be fair, I don't frequent this sub as often as I used to, so correct me if I am wrong, but I would expect a market like Alphabay to go down eventually. I mean I figured Agora closed down because they had such a good run and they were pretty big, they may have been worried of eventually getting shutdown.

I don't know. I just wanted to start some discussion around this. Anything related, please reply.

Because the Alphabay server is in Vladimir Putin's office, and the toilet paper in the bathroom next to the office is made of the search warrants sent by the DEA.

CIA and interpol are running AB and its just such good Intel for them that they will keep it going until busts start exposing people and it all implodes.

Alpha will go down eventually. I'll be the first to admit that I thought it was going to be gone waaaay before some of the other markets that disappeared. The longer it stays open the more money they make from fees plus they will make more when they finally do decide to exit scam.

I've seen enough markets come and go that I can say with almost full certainty that AB will eventually make an attempt to exit. The only market that has ever did their customers right and refunded before they left was Agora, and AB is no Agora.

Life is an iterative process, with each iteration of an entity being better than the one before it.

In other words, markets evolve and become more resilient to takedown efforts.

I've wondered the same thing. The only thing I can come up with is that the tech (as outlined in the dnm bible) is pretty fucking solid and combined with good Opsec it's safe enough to risk IMO. I mean between Tails, Tor, anonymous bitcoin wallets, 4096 encryption keys, and domestic to domestic orders, until they make this tech against the law I think the markets will continue to do well.

Hard to know how secure and safe the Alpha admins feel, but given the fact they've been running for longer than most implies their security is pretty rock-solid. Alpha will fall, like all others, whether they decide to pack up shop and take (10's of?) millions or it is compromised.

Always treat all markets with caution

I believe the government cares less and less about these sites. There are bigger issues to deal with these days.
