I had a redditor send me something via USPS. It was nothing illegal, just posted for a hard to find piece of computer hardware and someone hooked me up and sent it to me for free.
I was very grateful, I pm'ed them my address, but totally forgot to give them my name.
When the package showed up it was addressed to "DickCheeseOnMyChest"
I thought USPS kept track of like which names go to which houses and such, making sure to not deliver mail to somebody who doesn't live there.
If this package went through, why does everybody not suggest using a fake name when ordering?
If you just ordered something and put your name as "Ryan Jackson" what would stop it from going thru? What's the drawbacks from using a fake name?
I think the idea is that when your sending something that is possibly contraband, you don’t want to heighten your risk profile by introducing unknown variables. When you send something innocuous, there is no additional risk/consequences associated with aforementioned contraband. So worst case scenario it is opened, repackaged and returned to sender—meaning nothing is lost and no one goes to jail.
