You have to remember one thing - NO ONE IS GOING TO GO TO JAIL FOR YOU! A VPN company is not going to risk to lose its license or anything over a 30$/month subscriber.

Just check if you have to register something besides login and password, if yes, move to the next. Payment through bitcoin. Where are the servers located? Subpoena history, what did they do?

In the modern age of dragnet surveillance, a trusted VPN provider should be used regardless if you use the DNMs or not.

But how we know if these guys are to be trusted besides if they arent in the 5 eye countries?

A good vpn keeps no records so even if the government squeezed them for info on you there is nothing to give

Any suggestions for VPNs? I would prefer using a seperate router like flash router.

Still I have yet to find A SINGLE DOCUMENTED CASE where a VPN has told a gov't to fuck off....

As people have said no VPN is going to go to prison instead of give over your info so the most secure VPN does the following.

Keep MINIMAL logs: all VPN's keep some sort of log, it is part of the system. Some VPN providers never wipe them, some wipe them monthly, some weekly, and some multiple times a day.

Ideally you want the last one, a VPN who wipes their logs multiple times a day.

Also they wont go to jail for you but the ideal VPN provider WILL notify you if a goverment agency starts poking around askign for info about you.

Ask the provider you are looking into some questions(obviously don't make it sound like you are doing illegal things) and they should provide you with an insight to how they opperate.

A VPN WILL NOT protect you against government scrutiny. Even if the VPN isn't lying about not keeping logs, what about their upstream provider? And that provider's provider?
