Should this subreddit restrict the use of throwaway accounts?

It might be a worthwhile experiment to see how this subreddit functions for a week or two with a restriction on throwaway accounts. I figure this will be a somewhat controversial topic, but hear me out before you make up your mind.

In my opinion throwaways cause more problems than they solve. It's a luxury which is too often abused and causes a headache for mods and users alike. Throwaway accounts completely undermine the ban system and promote an endless stream of misinformation and low quality content. Without making people minimally invested in their accounts, we are implicitly encouraging shitposts.

Some of you who were around on the original Silk Road forums may remember that you needed to have a minimum of 50 posts in the newbie section before you could post on any other section of the forums. This served two main purposes. First, it helped prevent spambots from flooding the sub. Luckily we have automod and Reddit's built in spam filter to help with that. Second, it made people invested in their account. You're less likely to break the rules and get banned because it's time consuming to get those 50 posts and something you want to avoid having to do again.

I am envisioning very minimal restrictions on throwaway accounts.

To start, I was thinking we could institute a 3 comment karma minimum to be able to post new topics. Throwaways would still be allowed to comment freely in threads like they can now, but creating new topics would be limited to those that earned a total of 3 upvotes on their comments. This is by no means a perfect system and I'm certainly open to suggestions, but it's a start that will hopefully improve the quality of content on this subreddit.

tl;dr: institute a 3 comment karma minimum to be able to post new topics on /r/DNMs.

Come for the drugs, stay for the drama..

FUCK NO. Not enough, If it's as big a problem as you think, then a 3 comment karma minimum is too light. You make people answer more questions than that to be unbanned, so what's the point.

3 comment karma is like a finger in a dike(not dyke), if you are going to discourage throwaways, then 3 isn't enough. You need a full blown Israeli Iron Dome over this bitch. 20 karma, make it a pain in the ass to use continuous throwaways. Sure you can have a couple, but 20 karma would get tedious fast

tl;dr 20 KARMA MINIMUM FOR NEW ACCOUNTS TO POST NEW THREADS.

We have darknetnoobs and subs like that to learn, and 20 karma will get your ass up to speed.

I get what you're trying to do but it would do more harm than good.

For starters, this sub should be all about anonymity and freedom of speech. Some people have posted some great posts on throwaways that have never posted anything else. It would also be too easy to get around if a certain amount of karma needed to be reached.

It would help cut down the crap if we found a better way to deal with throwaways and trolls but I can't see one.

Interesting suggestion. I like it. As for it diminishing the number of reviews, isn't that what specific market forums are for?. I've even seen some vendors now saying that they don't want reviews posted on the clearnet.

Me think good idea. But more stringent is better

I stand behind and approve this.

You are now free to proceed as planned.

Very bad idea, posting habits, login times, writing style and other meta information is very valuable to LE.

I think it's a good idea to test the waters.

Everyone just needs to create 3 accounts. Use proper OpSec accordingly.

Been doing it this way since day one. Never used a throwaway yet. Of course there are certain times when they are useful...no denying that. But they have been used way too often for the wrong reasons and hold much less weight when it comes to important statements, accusations, claims.

I bet the quality of this subreddit will raise slowly but surely if implemented. I vote for /u/IGetDankShit on this one.

No doubt that the current "community" will feel opposite by a large margin though...

[1 Points] Mrg13:

Say they find a way to implement this feature... What's to stop someone from creating 4 throw aways. One to post a comment and the others to up vote it.

ALL throwaways or what? I mean this is not my main account, only used for DNM subreddits.

[1 Points] high_dragonfly:

This community is built upon freedom and anonamitity why would we want that taken away? Sure some people abuse it but I make new accounts for different purposes for instance I made this account to source 2 cb fly. It's all about staying hidden

No.

thing is with the 50 posts rule , one would look for anything to literally write a fucking sentence on , hence more shitposts AND uninformative comments.

I don't think that would work out

I'd be totally down for this except if I get b& again and can't make a new account
