Do you think Silk Road 2 was targeted intentionally due to having the SR name?

Obviously all DNM's are targets for LE, but I am curious if Silk Road 2 had a bigger target on it's back then other DNM's because of that SR brand. Or if it happen to come and go so quickly because of shit security and such, all irrelevant to the SR name?

Numerous people I know (who don't use DNM's) refer to DNM's simply as 'Silk Road', so that name absolutely rings out with most people then something like Evo or Agora.

I feel like anyone who has half the brains to start a DNM now and days would be a fool to brand it Silk Road 3

It was low hanging fruit something like a strawberry.

Largely, silk road 1 and 2 were 2 incarnations of the same market with slightly different staff. DPR gone, some new hires, I'm sure. And it went under the same name so there was probably a public image facet. Poor OPSEC also played a role. Combination of a few factors, I'd say.

If they were smart anyone involved with silk road 2 would call it quits for anything led by the same team. Either for the foreseeable future or change aliases and look for employment on a different, probably preexisting, market. They need a clean break.

1yeah, they painted a HUGE target on their back by launching as SR2. Then, their original home page was a re-doctored of the first SR's seizure note. It's also not likely to be coincidence that SR2 was taken down exactly a year after its launch.

Would SR2 still be operating today had it launched under a different monicker? Most certainly. But they also would have been a TINY market; most people only signed up with it because they viewed it (improperly) as a legitmate successor to the first SR, rather than what it really was, a bunch of unskilled actors trying to capitalize off of the previous SR's name and goodwill.
