Ok so I just ordered an ounce and today was the day I was expecting it. The mailman left a notice on my door saying I need to go to the post office to sign for it. Keep in mind this is the first and only delivery attempt made. Also even more nerveracking is the tracking number he wrote on the notice does not show up in the system. So he either wrote it down wrong or they took the number out of the system so I cant see it was intercepted! I have messaged the vendor asking for the tracking number to see if it matched and to see if by some odd chance he put signature requirement on it which he didnt do the first time i ordered from him.
IT SAYS THIS WHEN CHECKING THE TRACKING NUMBER
Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office.
FUCK I AM SHITTING MYSELF RIGHT NOW.! ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
First, chill. I know its terrifying. Forget about the signing vs. not signing argument - bottom line, simple possession of it is enough to execute a search warrant. In other words, they don't need you to go to the post office to go pick it up and sign for it. They can execute a CD by dropping it in your mailbox and waiting for you to pick it up. Given that its sitting at the post office, they have no control of when you go pick it up. So if it were LE, they'd need to camp out until you made your arrival.
Also, my guess is that the postman made a typo in the tracking number. Did the vendor say whether the tracking your postman gave him was close to the tracking number he has for your order? If it was close (like a number or two off, or transposed), then this is probably your order. If its not even close, this could easily be something else entirely. I can't explain why the vendor's tracking number shows that status, but I can say it does happen. In fact, some orders I buy off people (clearnet shit) will only have delivery confirmation and won't provide any status about the pack other than maybe when it was picked up. Obvioulsy though, the tracking the vendor has and the one the postmn gave you are different. Question is how different.
Secondly, even if this is your pack, fear not quite yet. This happens from time to time. The post office fucks up. They think a signature is required when its not. Perhaps they didn't feel safe dropping it off (thinking it may get stolen). Perhaps it was a simply fuck up.
What you should do: Clean house. In the absolute worst scenario, remember to shut the fuck up. Don't fucken deny. Don't admin. Don't engage. This is what will protect you long term. But keep in mind the chances of this being a problem is fairly slim. And even if they do plan on busting you, they won't let a simple signature stand in the way. Essentially, you really only have one option. Go pick it up. Sure, there is a rare chance its a bust, but keep a clean house and know your rights. And if it is a bust, they won't just let it go if you don't go pick it up. Second, if you don't pick it up and it gets returned to sender, the contacts will definitely be uncovered and you can be certain the pack will be seized.
A few things you can do: 1. Call USPS and ask what it is. They left the notice on your door. There is no mistaking that. So you don't lose plausible deniability by calling b/c you are calling about something they left on your door! Its not like you are giving them a tracking number that you wouldn't know anything about. Ask who its from and if they can redeliver.
Most USPS slips have a place to sign on the back. Sometimes an "in-person" delivery is required. this usually pertains to legal shit, and my personal favorite, the motherfucken IRS.
Go pick it up. Be clean when you do. Just be aware of your surroundings and if anything seems out of place.
Come back here and tell us it was much ado about nothing and you are getting high off your goods :)
