Package Seized. Need URGENT advice on what to do. Police called phone for a 'meeting'.

I had a package shipped to a friend approx 2 months ago. It was seized by local customs, nothing else happened immediately. We have had packages successfully delivered there BEFORE with no problem. I haven't had any packages sent there AFTER. Now, 2ish months later, my friend get's a call from the police. No letter, no controlled delivery, just a phone call from the police saying they'd like to talk more with him about a package and he's going to meet with them tomorrow. It was a package coming from inside Europe to Denmark. It was a decent amount of XTC pills and a small amount of MDMA.

That's all the info. Should he go meet with them? If so, what should he say? Deny everything? The package was to his registered address (which is how they got his number) but he doesn't live there. Most of the info I've found about what to do is from the US, and relevant to US law and would lean towards not speaking to the police at all... But wouldn't that look bad? Wouldn't it be better to play dumb and get it over with? I'm not sure at this time weather it will be an interrogation or what but he has to physically go and speak to them.

Any info appreciated.

Look, no one here knows anything about Danish law. Civil law in the EU is WAY different than the common law of the US. It might be compulsory to meet with police in Denmark. The only relevant things we can tell you are; clean house and get a lawyer.

[16 Points] IsThatPurple:

It's not for U.S. bro. The shit is universal: I DON'T KNOW NOTHING!

a) Clean the house (if any)

b) Clean the PC

c) shred the hard drives

d) I DON'T KNOW NOTHING!

"friend"? What "friend"? You don't know nobody. You have no friends!

[10 Points] theevoinsider:

did your friend tell you this info in person or electronically? it makes a difference if they start looking at you

[11 Points] charbo187:

don't talk to the police.

DON'T TALK TO THE POLICE.

DON'T. TALK. TO. THE. POLICE.

DONT FUCKING TALK FUCKING TO THE FUCKING POLICE

I would've replied, I'm not aware of any packages or something to that extent and left it at that. I wouldn't go meet them and would consult a lawyer. They want to talk to him because they want more evidence. If they had enough evidence and info they would have acted on it. They plan on your friend being nervous when he goes and using it to their advantage to get him to talk more....who it's from, how he got it, etc. If he plans on denying it, he could do that without going to a meeting, to his benefit.

[4 Points] lisaneedsbraces-:

They're fishing for him to incriminate himself and or grass someone else up. As far as your mate is concerned there's nothing to talk about so I'm very sorry officer but I can't help you.

The address that he doesn't live at... it doesn't happen to be his parents address or something like that?

If he has to physically go and speak to the police then they'd have already arrested him. If he goes to them then well, he's only making their job easier!

[5 Points] footlockervip:

I would not return the call. In fact I'd loose the number all together and juts lay low.

Its not about not speakign to the polie, oits about having representation. iTS your right and it is in your best interest. ANy judge would tell you that your a fucking idiot if you don't get a lawyer for a major crime. You don't lie to the police.

A call means they dont have a warrant for arrest. Leave it at that.

Have a lawyer ready on hand. You dont need a retainer. I just spojke to my old DUI lawyer and he gave me a business card where he wrote on the back give this to the arresting officer "I have instructed my client to not answer any questions without legal representation."

People get convicted of crimes they didnt convict. Do you want to take a chance when you did commit one?

It's always European countries that get popped. When I saw the title I just started looking it see which European county it was.... I knew it wasn't USA.

Customs in the USA must suck pretty bad. Hoorah for USA buyers like me.

I would say, go to the meeting, deny everything about the package and say he has no idea about it. Don't let him start to speculate on why someone had sent him drugs, he should just say he has no idea how this could happen. If the laws in denmark is anything like in Norway it will turn out okay, he just has to deny everything about the package that was seized. If they really wanted him they would've raided the house instead of calling him, they have little to no evidence against him. Make him destroy/DBAN if there is any thing which is illegal on there. Facebook won't give info to the police for some drugs, that is very unlikely. But make sure both you and him delete facebook convos. When he shows up for the meeting, make sure to tell him to look " clean ". Dress appropriately, comb his hair and basically make him not look like a drug user. Just my 5 cents

[2 Points] demretsam:

DO NOT GO TO THE POLICE. yur friend will gain nothing from it and I know it's yur friend but yu do not know what will happen if he is put under pressure. Now yu need to not only cover yur own ass but in doing so yu need to help him. And the best and only advice yu need to give him is DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE. for any reason they come to his house he needs to ask for an attorney. That should be the first this to come out his mouth if the police come to his house for ANY type of questions. Good luck to yu and yur friend. FUCK THE POLICE.

[2 Points] rundgren:

Norwegian here. The easiest solution here is just for your friend to go talk to the police and lie and tell them he have no idea about anything like this. Involving a lawyer this early in the process is less normal in Scandinavia than the US, I believe, so it might look a bit suspicous and make them try a bit harder to get you. Still: If there's no evidence they can't and won't do anything. And they don't have any unless you give it to them - a package adressed to you will not be enough for them to think about going to court.

Do you really need to destroy the drives? I mean formatting is formatting. Nothing will be saved through a format correct?

Nvmd. Just googled it. DESTROY THEM. Lol.

[1 Points] Gourdz:

I don't know the law and how police procedures work where you live... but if things in Denmark are rather laid back like in Canada, tell your friend to just NOT go to the meeting and clean house. They clearly have free time on their hands but most probably not enough to start a serious investigation. They are fishing out more evidence. DO NOT talk to LE willingly under ANY circumstance. If they do call back, say that you spoke to a lawyer and he told you to not comment unless in his presence. 90% chances that they will leave you alone then or maybe watch you a bit from afar. From this point, just go on with your normal life and do not meet with your friend for a while. I seriously doubt that communications are under scrutiny but if you feel extra careful, do not communicate at all with your friend. If they hang on and want to meet your lawyer then hire one and follow only his advice from now. Good luck mate.

You're in a country that cares about its citizens. America is a country that relies strictly on the dollar signs. Incarceration gives greater funding, so as you can imagine there's an "arrest 'em all" mentality out there.

Take advantage of the civil laws you have there. For small amounts you get help not charged. Wish we had similar proceedings here in the U.S. :(

[1 Points] PurpleBeamz:

LE/PI are not here to help you! If they are wanting you to go in for questioning means they don't have jack shit & want to squeeze out some more information from your buddy. If they had enough evidence they would just kick in your buddy's door. Block said PI phone number, don't answer strange calls & if they got in touch with you again deny everything & contact a lawyer.

NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE

[1 Points] None:

get a lawyer. plead the 5th. SAY NOTHING. got a lawyer to evict my tenant who hasnt paid in three months. O)h my god. Sometimes it's worth the money. In this case, it's your life so, GET A FUCKING LAWYER

[1 Points] chefjoesb:

I seriously hope you aren't on your computer at your address posting to this topic as now you are tying yourself to this situation. Cops aren't stupid and have many resources to draw from. As everyone has said your friend should refer the police to an attorney and both of you should clean house. Also I'd not talk to your friend about this any way but in person at a neutral spot where you cannot be setup. I've seen it to many times where a 'friend' flips because they figure it's your dope so why should they go down for it, next thing you know your 'friend' turns over texts, msgs etc to the police and you take the fall. So until this is FAR down the road I'd cease ANY contact except in person to your friend...

No one has said anything about Belize yet so...clean house, throw your computer in the ocean, burn your house, go to Belize.

[1 Points] coltsrule7:

What ever you do dont act guilty! If they ask if they can get you something to drink/eat, Say yes! They are looking for you to look/act like a guilty criminal. Trust me mate, I didnt let them get me a soda and they ripped my ass for over an hour! Finaly I was smart enough to get out of that hell hole, They will tell you that you cant go home, they are searching your home, ect.... They will say "if you just tell us that you may have joked to someone once about it that it will a blow over!" Dont talk! If they do get you in the interrogation room just eat/drink as much as they offer you.

[1 Points] bobbiggs69:

Watch this video carefully. Never, ever talk to police. This video tells you why and what can happen if you do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wXkI4t7nuc

[1 Points] affinitysci:

Tell him that even though he may be tempted to go talk to them, there is nothing to gain, and everything to lose.

The entire premise of this "meeting" is to create the idea that its not a big deal, and that everything is cool, and its your option to come in and talk to them...because if you do that they dont have Mirandize you, you are talking to them under your own volition........but anything you say certainly can and will be used against you in a court of law..

[1 Points] conspiracy_thug:

Don't talk to no police they work with the government

[1 Points] killarhye:

Even though this offers no help OP seems really stupid... people have said what you need to do at least 20 times in this thread and you dont understand simple things like 'deny everything' 'clean house'. Its not that hard to understand, by the looks of it youre gonna get fucked by the law either way.

I might be too late and too lazy to read the other posts, but here is my view as a fellow scandinavian (different country thou)

In my country you have to go to the police. But when you do just say your name, show id and after that say no comment to every of the question. That way they will not have any evidence from your interrogation. At least we have self-discrimination protection (or whatever it is in english language) so you can lie, not talk or say what you want there, but best is just to be polite and not comment to anything. If they threaten you somehow (like they did to me) just be quiet again.

Im almost 100% it will not go any further from that, but if it goes to court, remember to be quiet again. Even thou you feel more "bad" to be quiet, it is still the best way to get rid off any charge.

[1 Points] sullyrb:

tell them to fuck off.

[1 Points] NATIK001:

If you want to do some reading (still have your friend get a lawyer) the relevant Danish laws are here.

[1 Points] 2cbking:

NEVER talk to the police, period, without legal counsule. doesnt matter where you live. Thinking something would look bad, is exactly how most idiots get busted in the first place. Forget any ideas you have about 'an innocent person has nothing to hide, so they would cooperate and talk to the police, by not doing that, that must make me look really guilty', because thats bullshit cop logic. You do your self no favors, in image or legal issues, by speaking with the police. That is literally the number one rule people need to know about dealing with LE. And thats dont, dont deal with LE, dont communicate with them at all, that is for your attorney to do.

[1 Points] rememberme13:

UPDATE: All good, and he DID go to the meeting. As all the scandinavian people who commented said. He denied everything, the police officer looked at his bank account, which was clean (for all purposes of this case) and they asked him questions like "have you taken drugs" or "...bought drugs" that kinda stuff. They even showed him a picture of the outside of the package and the contents (the pills and MDMA) and the police officer eventually said "I can't tell if you're lying so just let us know if anyone comes over asking about a package or anything suspicious". And he was set free.
