Does using LocalBitcoins on Tor really increase the risk of having BTC stolen??

Anyone who's logged onto LBC on their Tor Browser should be familiar with this message:

Warning to all Tor users: A Tor browser exposes you to the risk of having your bitcoins stolen.

How much truth is there to that? How much is just a scare tactic to get people to be less anon on LBC?

There's always going to be someone out there trying their luck at this sort of thing.

Something that happened to me recently though was that when trying to buy coins with cash deposit, the seller asked me to cancel the trade and sign back in with a clearnet browser. Hadn't realised they were able to see that sort of thing.

I'm guessing the main reason for that is tainted exit nodes.

Just make sure the connection is HTTPS/TLS and you should be fine. The threat here is an SSL-Stripping attack performed by an exit node.
