How the guy running the darknet kiddie porn site was caught.

Glad the sick asshole was caught but goes to show opsec includes everything, even the way you communicate online.

As someone who was involved in computer based cases, this seems like a load of bullshit. What usually happens is the police get the information illegally, or from another agency's help that their not willing to divulge. Even though you can prove in certain cases that their technological explanation makes absolutely zero sense, a judge will rarely overturn warrants and the such. This is due to the police saying they acted in good faith. It's a huge flaw in these types of cases where judges aren't very aware of technology and how it works. Cop makes up something that sounds good after illegally obtaining evidence, claims acted in good faith, you get fucked.

"Mr Griffiths searched for the greeting online, narrowing down a huge list of its users until he found a Facebook page and a photograph of a Volkswagen four-wheel drive utility.

"[The Facebook page] did point us in the direction of Adelaide," Mr Griffiths said.

"I actually found him asking questions online about how to raise the suspension of his four-wheel drive."

Using the visible registration plate on the 4WD, police came up with a name — Shannon McCoole. Background checks immediately rang alarm bells."

So by googling for "Hiya" he found out this guy? Really seems like highly impossible to me, he's a dumb cunt for posting his car reg. online though...but honestly, I think they found him some different way but dont want to say how so they came up with this.

That's what LE should focus on and not taking away people's medicine.

"US, Europe, United Kingdom. [It was] global," he said.

...we know how it happened now.

It took nearly a year, but just good old fashion detective work. The pressure to run a DNM (drugs not cp) must be insane. I can never imagine doing it. You only need to slip up once and it can be something has stupid as a uncommon greeting.

So how did they find out who the users of the site were? Do you think they tried just tried to get people to dox themselves?

[1 Points] OpiLuvr:

I wish the alphabet agencys and others across the world would concentrate on disgusting animals like these.

Leave the dnm's alone, they and we, aren't hurting anyone but there are plenty of sites that do.

Edit: Although I forgot that a few markets having carding/fraud, which can hurt people.

I just googled Verto's common greeting of "booyah motherfucker" and found out his real identity and email address. Sent him a message asking for my 5k back. Thank you Queensland Police force for this enlightening technique.

Wow that's impressive. I rashly have to give props to the team who did this, that was a really clever and ingenious way of finding the guy.

Super happy they caught him, he is one sick fuck. Since they caught him through non-conventional means, does this mean dnm are still considered "safe".

isnt this a little weird - ""We closed membership [of the site]. Nobody gets in. We didn't let any new membership come in. Effectively we caged the rats." Once the leader was caught, they closed memberships so only the existing members would be caught." isn't that what agora did recently?

I just want to say - i'm PRO agora. it's been my favorite market ever since it opened. just want to spark a debate
