How long does raw black tar opium stay good in decent storage conditions?

I've had it with me moving around a few different places in a bag I just never unpacked, its inside a ziplock bag with the air pressed out, then put inside a sort of mentos type tin that snaps to be fairly air tight.

It smells as strong as the day I got it, it didn't lose any color however there is a little yellow smear in the bag of oil, which doesn't bother me much.

I usually don't smoke it because of its mild effects, but a sudden withdrawal from pain killers followed by fairly severe body pain has gotten me to search that shit out until I can get more actual pharm pain killers.

Any opinion on if its worth a shit? I'll probably try either way, but wanted the communities input, mucho gracias.

I'll be the first to post up, as you are probably asking yourself "How the hell should we know if your the one with ancient opium?"

It tasted a little like shit but I had to roll a tinny pipe so it didn't stain any other pieces with that signature over powering flower smell (and not like weed flowers).

It did actually help with the particular sore muscle / nerve and get me a decent buzz, but it has never been anything over the top noticeable in at it's freshest.

So between it and tylenol it has basically handled the muscle / nerve pain or whatever the fuck it is, but in regards to holding down the fiending, I am still drooling at the thought of a vicodin but that will come in time...

So apparently this shit stays good for ages if you block it from air / sunlight and keep it at an ambient temp, and I mean yeeeears.

Old-school opium for smoking, like in old China, got more valuable the older it was... 30 year old opium was a connoisseur's dream. Nick Tosches talks about it with an avid opium smoker in his article, The "Last" Opium Den. (Sarcasm quotes mine.)
