(Serious) How do the people who get caught for DOMESTIC transactions via the DNM actually get caught?

I know that the majority of you are going to say that most people who order products on the DNM do not get caught, and I wholeheartedly agree. However, it would not be wrong to say that a very small minority of people do get caught. I'm wondering exactly what could lead to these people getting caught if anyone would like to help enlighten me. Thanks so much for the answers and safe buying!

It seems to be almost always related to the postal part of it as opposed to computer opsec.

[10 Points] DevsiK:

Bad OPSEC or stealth shipping would be my guess most of the time. Or people who buy from the dnm to flip in person but tell others where they pick up from and somebody snitches.

Telling your friends you buy on DNM, one gets busted, squeals, you go next. 1st rule of DNM, don't talk about DNM. 2nd rule of DNM, don't talk about DNM.

[7 Points] funkypink:

  1. Running their mouths/bragging. Word gets around, people talk, and ex-girlfriends especially like to snitch.

  2. Selling in real life. This is often the way DNM buyers come to the attention of their local police department.

  3. Buying too much quantity, too often. Lots of people have multiple orders on the way at any given time and act surprised when they catch the attention of LE.

  4. Poor stealth. Often the vendor doesn't package things properly, or doesn't change their packaging/return address for a long time.

  5. Buying weed. Seriously guys, buy your weed on the street, not through the mail. Weed is bulky and has such a strong odor that people can smell it. They don't even need dogs to find weed packs.

  6. LE database search. All LE has to do is order a package from a vendor, look at the return address, and then match that in the postal service's database to everyone else who received the same package from the same return address around the same time. Then they coordinate a raid, and boom, "Tonight at 11, an Internet drug ring busted. Are your kids safe?"

does package volume have much to do with it?

From what I've read it seems to be people buying from DNM and selling IRL. Valuum is right (NOFX fan?), it's almost always postal related. Loose lips have sunk a few ships too.

[2 Points] thisonetwo123:

The only cases I've heard much about are due to stupid decisions on the buyer's part. One guy told a bunch of people he was getting drugs in the mail. A teenager ordered to his parents house and kept checking the mail. People used fake names.

[1 Points] doublevacsealthrow:

Vendor getting profiled, sharing information IRL and getting snitched, once in a grey moon a package getting seized. Usually its some form of investigation open on somebody bigger, and you get caught in the crosshair. If people think after this Ross case that LE isn't going to increase presence, then you should probably not take advice from them.

the place i drop to gets packages all over the world, sells health supplements so bottles of pills leave here everyday and get returned every day
