An ops tip from an experience I had last night: Manage every single detail of your public appearance

Hey to start off, I don't buy off DNM, I buy in-person. That said, I've been subbed to DNM for a couple years because there's some good quality posts on anonymity that come through. I'm hoping this will be one of those posts. :)

I live by myself and recently moved into a house in the suburbs in a good part of town. The house needed a lot of work but I was down for the task. Based on relationships with neighbors in my last two residences I decided to not get to know anyone; just a friendly wave and maybe saying "hi" when I saw them outside.

Within a couple weeks of moving in I noticed cars would park out front and had a few weird people knock on the door. At some point I talked with the guy across the street and apparently the people here before me sold pills and then one day vanished. Cool, their loss my gain, I love the house.

I should add at this point I'm in IT and work-from-home. I also run a small Ebay business out of my basement and sell on Craigslist and FB. I do my best to be discrete because I don't want neighbors to know my comings and goings but no-doubt if someone is watching they see me regularly load boxes and packages into my car. Anyways I digress.

Fast-forward to last night. 2 county cop cars show up to my house and knock on the door. I answer and immediately ask "Is there a problem officer?" They want to come in and ask me questions. I tell them I don't want them in the house but will gladly have a conversation with them at the side of the house (where neighbors can't see). They ask me if I know this person or that person (which I don't, they were the ones living here before me). They asked me what I do for a living and I told them (IT plus a couple side gigs). They then asked me a most particular question: Have you been advertising drugs for sale at your house? We went back and forth and they eventually explained someone reported I was advertising drugs for sale at my house. I told them I had no idea what they were talking about and they finally left.

Then it dawned on me what happened. The house is on a 1/2 acre lot and the yard is a mess. Last month I started working on the yard and each time I'm outside I wear 1 of 2 shirts: One has french-fries printed all over it with the word "DRUGS" in big letters and the second is covered with broccoli with the words "BLAZE IT" in big letters. I thought the shirts were funny as hell however those shirts were this man's tell. There are three retired couples who live near me and I think it was one of them who reported me.

Anyways it made me think of this sub and the ongoing search for anonymity. i honestly don't care if they know I smoke weed, it's decriminalized here and I could give a fuck what they care. Just takeaway that details matter including the words and logos and pictures you have on your clothing.

Peace out, stay safe.

I don't even know why your wardrobe consists of those shirts.

I'm in IT and work-from-home

Never mind.

Good to know. If you sell drugs, don't advertise that you sell drugs in public on your public clothing. Pretty sure /u/shitquantiksays posted a funny picture and now I just have a mental picture if you rocking those pharm pill clothes, lol.

TLDR; Pro tip for vendors: Wear D.A.R.E. shirts from now on as to not raise suspicion in your neighborhood.

I'm in a shit mood.

1 thing LE does when they can't build a case off solid evidence is resort to character assassination. Welcome to the real world OP. You're in for a nice fat gift bag full of surprises.

I also work in IT. Lots of pentesting.

Fuckin # sign man.. gotta love it
