Any reason a K-9 SUV would be parked outside a post office after hours for 15+ minutes?

So I have a P.O. Box. Drove past the post office at night several hours after business hours and saw a SUV K-9 unit parked in the lot. It was the only vehicle there and I couldn't see if anyone was in it, or if anyone was even in the post office. Got me paranoid as fuck so I didn't even enter the lot. Drove past it again 15 minutes later and the SUV is still there - much longer than necessary if it was just some cop picking up his/her mail. Any reason the vehicle would be there?

Nothing international or smelly in there. Subjectively a "personal amount." I'm in no rush to check my mail

cops sometimes just sit in parking lots...

They're coming for you, Neo, and I don't know what they're going to do.!!!!!!

hmmm...let me count the ways:

-texting

-eating

-searching for paperwork

-meeting a colleague in the field at convenient central location

-good ol' work jerk (who doesn't like to rub one out at the PO parking lot?)

-feed the dog

-letting the dog out to pee

-letting the officer out to pee

-trolling r/k9cops on mobile

shall I continue?

take a deep breath OP and quit driving past the PO every 15 minutes. you're liable to get pulled over and arrested for something unrelated ya paranoid tweaker.

[9 Points] trynakick:

you know how on r/trees they have this annoying habit of saying, "I saw this painting at a [7]" or whatever? We should assign mandatory paranoia levels to posts like this. This one is definitely a [10].

I have not confirmed this, but do cops recieve mail?

[3 Points] septic_shock:

They're there for your pack!!

Cool username, bro.

Eeeewwww I wouldn't go in there. Just go home and come back tomorrow I would guess. Fuck that, I mean I don't own a P.O Box but I've had to go to the post office before to pick up a pack (and sign for it, too), and if I noticed a k-9 unit in the parking lot I'd say FUCK THAT and just pick up my pack tomorrow or try to come back later.

Maybe come back 2 days later

Starts with a C and ends with oincidence..

Everyones out to get you mutherfucker?

Seriously chances are he was checking his PO box, trying to figure out the self serve USPS machine thingy, or just sitting in a parking lot.

I'm not sure if they are encouraged or discouraged to do this but I find cops hanging out all of the time at parks, under trees, etc. We have one particularly lazy dude who chills near the park where I take my dogs to run around. Sometimes, I fuck with him and linger too long, or just stare at the car. He eventually leaves like he's self conscious which makes me think he should be doing something better with his time and my tax dollars.

[1 Points] Elmo-Fud:

Oh..just doing some random training with his sniffer dog....

[1 Points] JaggedVendor:

Happens a lot, you just notice shit more when you are doing sketchy shit. I drop a lot of packs off over night when I can, where using gloves is less suspect when handling packs. We have several post offices within 10-20 miles, and one almost always has a SUV sitting in the parking lot during the late night. Pretty sure hes just looking for drunks/late night speeders.

Fuck these people that are saying you're overly paranoid, they just want to sound cool. Paranoid people stay out of jail, cool bros fill them up. It might and most likely is a coincidence, but I say trust your instinct, let your mail sit a couple days. No way they will wait for you that long, for a personal amount. Wait two days, worst case they will leave you a love letter. Better safe then sorry.

If it's a regular cop car, I wouldn't worry about it. However, K9 units are specialty vehicles dispatched under requested circumstances. You should rarely see those vehicles leave the police parking lot. An officer doing a typical patrol wouldn't need a dog as part of their daily chores.
