Sending stuff to a hotel

I'm trying to figure out what's better. I'm going on vacation in a month & I want to bring along some stuff with me from the markets. Would it be better to have the vendor send the package to the hotel I'm staying at, or should I have it sent to me first & then I mail it out myself to the hotel?

It seems general concencus is not to ship drugs to a hotel. That said, if you're going to do it, would it not be weird getting a package from yourself at a hotel?

Getting packages at a hotel always seemed weird, but that must just be me.

I knew of a guy who lived at a hotel and he emailed the receptionist and told him to expect a package under a different name than his own and when it arrives just pass it on to him, fast forward a couple of months and customs turn up to the hotel asking if that guy lived here . Receptionist remembered the email that the guy had sent him. Printed it out gave to customs and the guy got busted.

Generally speaking, receiving mail or packages at a hotel isn't that big of a deal at all. I do this quite a bit. When I was a heavy business traveler, and even on vacation, I'd forget something and order from Amazon to my hotel. its not an odd request. And many people do it. I remember one hotel I saw a stack of amazon packs guests had ordered.

That being said, there is probably a slightly increase in risk as you have an additional set of hands on your pack. But its not an insane, huge, risk IMO. Just let teh front desk know you'll be expecting a pack, verify their mailing address so you get it right, that sort of thing. The caveat to this would be in certain areas I might not do this. BIg party cities like vegas I simply wouldn't do this. I do seem to remember reading somewhat recently someone busted for sending shit to their vegas hotel. So certain locales I would avoid sending shit. Also, I've only done this at upscale hotels. They tend to ask less questions and just do whatever ot make their customer happy. Plus they tend to give a shit and excel in customer service so they will make sure not to lose your pack or steal it.

So in short:

I always send my snow skiing gear instead of checking luggage (fuck TSA) when I go for vacation. I call the hotel and tell them to expect some packages they are usually sitting in my room when I arrive. I've done it a few times with no problems but I also stay at very nice hotels and only order personal amounts.

Worst idea ever, main way people get caught in America.

Hotels dont have to ask to open your shit.
