The dilemma of using 'drops'

So this is what I can't seem to figure out when dealing with DNM related stuff. I know lots of people ship straight to their house with their own name but lots of people say this is a dumb idea and that you should use a drop. Drop being a different house or a post office. Here's the issue I find:

-If you use a real name at a post box, if you get caught it's still linked back to you. If the drop is only burned it's still linked back
-If you use a fake name you're commiting a completely different mail fraud felony, and there's a chance you'll get caught just for that or a worker will get suspicious
-If you use a friends house and they get caught, they're fucked. If they're fucked...you ARE fucked. If you somehow find a way not to get caught, you now just sent your former friend to a few decades in jail
-If you ship to a business/motel/hotel, you're an idiot.

Most people on r/darknetmarkets only have a basic understanding. They buy small amounts and ship to their house or to a p.o. box. If you need weight, head over to /r/fakeid and get a good one then buy a 24 hour mailbox at a mom and pop store that doesnt have anyone around at 11-3 in the night. THATS a drop

Well most of you guys don't really know what a drop is technically supposed to be. It's supposed to be an address that has no connection to you so if something goes wrong, you can...drop...it. No friends snitching on you, none of that bullshit. But if you need them you already know how to get them.

What is this?

[6 Points] Rolling_Stonedd:

Can you point out who says it's stupid to ship it to your own house? Unless you're ordering massive quantities and dealing yourself then why would you not mail it to your house?

[6 Points] footlockervip:

ive lived in and out of hotels for extended periods of times and have had a few darknet packages no problem, and hundreds of clearnet packages through the years.

i was in the mailroom at teh hyatt one day and there must have been 200 boxes/packages in there. its not that odd to get mail at a hotel man. especially extended stay hotels. the nicer the hotel and more presentable you are and look the better off you are too.

Are you dealing? No? Then use your house (if you have roommates dont be a dick and figure out something else). Are you buying bulk and reselling? Figure out a drop (empty houses) and switch them on the reg, it will cost money and it will be a hassle but it beats LE at your door.

[2 Points] ShulginsCat:

This question is only relevant if you're buying bulk. For personal quantities just stick to one crime at a time. Why risk a more serious charge like false identification when you don't have to?

The point of having a drop is for you to have access to the package unattended. Post office doesn't give you that - you can easily get busted leaving the place. Shipping to a friend means he can get busted and give you up. With a drop you can scope the area, maybe even place some hidden cameras, so you have much more control of the environment. But then it becomes a serious operation.

pro tip: folks with sufficiently good opsec ain't gonna talk about it on a publicly accessible forum

Getting drops really aren't that hard.

Step 1 - find the house you want. Ideally these will be houses that have mail boxes on like the end a dirt road that heads up to there house for privacy, but not needed. They just get checked less often, usually when they are leaving or coming home. No need to drive down there to get mail, and why walk? Most people only get bills or junk mail, so these get checked only a few times a week.

Step 2 - Confirm the frequency of how often they get checked. Walk by a few different times with a dog and glance in to see when its been emptied. If that is to risky, a deer cam setup across near some bush does the trick too.

Step 3 - Its go time. Grab a piece of junk mail to have there name, address, and zip code. You will be using this, and want to make sure you have it correct. Lets say the name is Jon Peterson. While most packs are pretty obvious which will be yours, you don't want to grab one of there ebay packs on accident. Use the name "John Peterson" Or "Jon Petersen" which is still close enough that it wont raise any red flags for a minor typo.

While checking/getting the packs, just walk a dog with you. Nobody is ever really suspicious of some guy/girl walking around the area with a dog, and it allows you to pay more attention to the surrounding areas such as a car that usually isn't there is now parked in view.

Don't use tracking internationally. They require a signature, whereas domestic priority will not unless the vendor checks the box that requires it. These take minor effort to obtain. Just be sure you can check it before them, which isn't ever that hard. Mails been delivered in my area for almost 7 hours, and I bet I could check 10 random mail boxes and at least 4 will still have mail in it.

Can anyone poke any holes in this strategy:

Get items delivered to PO Box. Have the ID you used to sign up for the PO box associated with an address that never has or will have any drugs in it (where you used to live/your parents, etc) that you currently do not live in. Raid on home address after they see you pick up package would yield nothing.

Go into postal office with backpack. Make it seem like you have taken package. Leave post office without pack. See if you get fucked/tackled/arrested. Go back get package. 1st paragraph protects you from raid in future hours/days since they have no fucking clue where you actually reside.
