[CommunityDiscussion] LEAP - Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

While this is a no brainer for most of us, there are LE that see the futility and damaging effects of an un-winnable social policy. --From their website, why legalize drugs? - "We believe that drug prohibition is the true cause of much of the social and personal damage that has historically been attributed to drug use. It is prohibition that makes these drugs so valuable - while giving criminals a monopoly over their supply. Driven by the huge profits from this monopoly, criminal gangs bribe and kill each other, law enforcers, and children. Their trade is unregulated and they are, therefore, beyond our control."

Some good reading on the website. Maybe the mod's want to add the LEAP web banner to the bottom of the DNM sub. Show some love, even though I'm sure many of them only saw the light after spending whole careers supporting the "war".

here's the link to their site - http://www.leap.cc/

I like the banner idea. LEAP represents everything I want in a law enforcement officer - someone committed to protecting the public from harm instead of fighting a war they can never win. If you haven't seen it yet, check out this video from one of their members (a retired police captain).

Haven't really heard much about what they think of darknet markets though, I'm curious what they'd have to say about them. Given how non-violent and honest we generally are compared to street-level dealers, I'd assume they're on our side.

I would love to get the community affiliated with LEAP. I've always maintained that there are a lot of really good law enforcement officers out there. We tend to hear about the bad, but they do save lives and do help out in communities. These guys are a shining example. Really isn't worth their time to go to court over some kid with a bag of weed. From my understanding, in a lot of cases dealing with a kind officer, they'll dump your stuff out and tell you to be careful. Had a friend who just completely got let go with what he had just for the simple fact he was polite, the officer was a good guy, and he really wasn't hurting anybody. Wish more people had this mindset. HUGE waste of money. Flying helicopters around to look for pot plants? I'm into aviation and I can tell you fueling a helicopter or plane to keep it in the air for even an hour doing this kind of stuff is outrageously expensive. The cost outweighs the suggested benefits by far in those cases

Another contributing factor to drug prohibition is the prison industry. The prison Union is one of the biggest unions in the country. prisons are privatized and paid for by taxpayer money and most prisons have contracts with their respective States that requires their prison to be a certain percent full at all times (75-90% iirc depending on prison). This means that even if there is a drop in crime rates, the state is contractually obligated to keep the prison filled to its minimum capacity. When crime drops and you need to send people to jail, you go for the low hanging fruit ie kids with dimebags. When they first started talking about passing the mmj law, the prison Union protested. A big part of their job security comes from drug addicts. If we completely legalized marijuana and/or other drugs, the image population would drop immensely and prisons all over the country would close down due to there not being enough people to fill them all and a lot of the prison workers would lose their jobs.

I always thought it would be funny if they accepted BTC donations and Markets all chipped in like 1% of their profits to donate to an organization like this. It would make positive news and contribute to our cause in multiple ways. Also markets donating to MAPS or LEO's who are facing charges for standing up to police brutality etc.

Pigs are cunning animals; we must butcher them in whatever form they take.

Just kidding. I love LEAP.

[1 Points] hashmon:

LEAP is awesome. I met one of their founders, Jack Cole, right when it was getting off the ground.

Fuck LEAP going at the bottom of the sub, we want Bailey back.

Sometimes it takes fighting a war for people to realize it was wrong.

[1 Points] lopeor:

What about Energy Control at the bottom of the sub?

[0 Points] givemeoil420:

yes.. Leap , NormL, SSDP are great groups for "the end on the war on drugs" conversation but dose not condone drug use and stays away from topics like the dark net and only consider government regulation the solution. Past organizers have gotten arrested for personal drug use involving the darknet and there friends overdosing

Forgetting that the a part of the government itself is a drug cartel.
