[GeneralQuestions] cant install tails

So I tried to install tails 2 different ways. First using I'm burn to burn it on a DVD. Then it runs and about halfway or so some weird error messages pop up. Then I tried using Rufus to burn it on a usb. It also gets some error message but it says complete. I tried re downloading and re verifying from the tails website But same deal. I put that usb in and I see the tails screen and it says automatically loading in 5,4... and once it gets to 0 it constantly goes back 5,4...

Is it a problem that my tails is a rar file and not an iso. Every how to I watch says burn the iso image mine is a rar file

Make sure you're using the latest stable release from the official tails site

If it's not making it past syslinux like you said (where it goes 5,4,3,2) try pressing TAB and removing the '2' from 'vmlinuz2' and 'initrd2.img', and then hitting 'enter'.

This is really a discussion for /r/tails

Yes. Where did you download it from?

This is the official download site:

https://tails.boum.org/download/index.en.html

There is no rar file listed.

so uninstalled winrar. tried to burn to usb. ISO image extraction failed

[1 Points] JakeM7926:

You downloaded an rar file? If there is an iso image in the rar you should extract it with winrar. I'd double verify that you weren't a suspect of a MITM attack.

[1 Points] None:

Is it a rar or is your rar program trying to open the .Iso?

pendrivelinux

Google it.

[1 Points] ColdHotCool:

What is likely happening is instead of download a .iso your browser is downloading a .rar instead, for whatever reason.

change the .rar file to a .iso file check the SHA checksum to ensure it's valid and follow instructions. That is if you're downloading from the right place.

Also wrong place to ask, either /r/tails or /r/DarkNetMarketsNoobs

tails.module file is boken

I would suggest not doing anything. Deleting all the files and never using a DNM. Not to be an asshole but I don't know if you understand the technology enough to do it safely.
