Hey all,
This is probably more appropriate for r/drugs or r/sobriety or... who knows... But I like you all better.
My friend (no, really, my friend) who knows about my efforts to kick opiates with suboxone and detox stints and 12 step programs and whatever else, came to me with the confession that he is drinking a pint of whiskey a day for 30 days, and has been using .5mg of klonopin/day to fall asleep and stay asleep through the evening.
He has ten Klonopin left, and is planning on dropping the ETOH down to zero today or tomorrow and then tapering the Klonopin.
The K-pins seem like a low dose and a 10 day taper from .5mg to nothing seems easy enough, but the ETOH on top of it makes me worried for him.
So my questions are... can he do this alone? Are seizures or other severly deleterious symptoms a real possibility at his doses? Does he need detox? Real in patient rehab? Anyone else have a similar experience?
Thanks, love the community and would love to hear some experiences/advice.

edit: the Klonopin is new. He started using that about 10 days ago. So alcohol for 30ish days and Klonopin for 7-14 days.
TBH....Even 9000 thinks asking a professional like Dr. Gregory House would be a very good place to start with this plan. I just quit meth myself, but I am that ONE person they tell you about in any 12 step that it does not work on!!!
This is a copy & paste of what I told another person in this sub we ALL love!!!
You are way stronger than you believe you are!!!! Believing that, means you believe in yourself...that is the toughest step in anything, having the FAITH in ones self to even start what seems impossible!!!
This can be applied to everyone....We are FUCKING STRONG!!!! Seek the advice of a medical MD & go from there my friend!!! Remember....both of you have got this shit by the fucking nads!!!
God Speed to both of you!!!!
