Interpol says malware could be copied into Bitcoin users blockchain addresses. Assuming that LE is also investigating potential uses, what would they be able to see if they did this? Link below...

EDIT Admittedly this is a little sci fi but I was thinking more or less about LE being able to "flag" transactions and follow them through the blockchain, identifying the bitcoins as they move through the system.

My understanding of the bitcoin system and IT is pretty limited (but I'm learning!) so apologies in advance if this is just silly. :-)

Luckily the Bitcoin blockchain is more of a Medusa than any Bittorrent data and look how well taking those down works.

Focussing on "malware" in this text is a cheap trick in trying to scare away users from Bitcoin. This CP bullshit has been around for some time. It's another attempt to scare people away and to form arguments for legislators to put restrictions on the technology. Didn't work, isn't going to work. The ledger has always been public and they can't do shit about DNM activities as long as people watch their OPSEC.

Pandora's box has been opened and freedom will prevail.

Kill all they send and they will stop coming.

[5 Points] evilpumpkin:

Actual malware on the blockchain would only be a problem if an exploit existed in which clients would try to execute ledger data as a program. This is far from likely.

[1 Points] None:

If they used a modified code then mined it then put it in a dnm or tumbler possible like the current battle over bitcoin size.possible but unlikely.

The distributed blockchain database is like a huge chalkboard behind the bar of a pub, with the bar tab of millions of drinkers. There are no bitcoins flowing through the internet, just pairs of bitcoin addresses which incriment and decrement in unison to simulate the flow of "coins" between them.

Each one is just like a pigeonhole containing a number equal to or greater than zero. If the balance was 13 btc it might be considered unlucky. but it isn't malware.

I'm going to read the damned article now to see if that's what they are actually pretending, or if domo_origato misunderstood it.

When will they leave our people alone?
