Two men were arrested in a marijuana bust that involved homes in China Grove and Charlotte.

On Wednesday February 11, local and national law enforcement reportedly watched as three UPS packages were delivered to two men in China Grove, NC. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office says agencies set up surveillance and saw the two men in a Lexus pick up the packages and put them in their vehicle.

That's when the RCSO followed the Lexus to a home in the 400 block of West Hillside Drive in China Grove, NC where investigators say they put the deliveries in a building behind the home.

Deputies say the two men were followed from the house to I-85 South where they were stopped by investigators.

Soukhanh Saengchanh and Sourachay Mysayakhom were in the Lexus and, according to reports, the men were detained while investigators searched the West Hillside Drive home. RCSO says that house belongs to Saengchanh's parents and sister.

According to deputies, the three boxes of marijuana were found in addition to reported evidence of previous shipments of marijuana brought to the residence.

When the two men were processed at the Rowan County Detention Center, investigators say they found six United States Postal Service receipts in Sourachay Mysayakhom's sock. Each receipt reportedly showed that packages were shipped from Fresno, California, on February 9, 2015, to addresses in China Grove and Charlotte.

Rowan authorities say they obtained a search warrant for Saengchanh's Charlotte residence where investigators reportedly discovered evidence of large scale drug trafficking and previous shipments of marijuana being delivered to North Carolina from California through USPS. Two other packages of marijuana were reportedly intercepted at the United States Postal Service Mail facility in Charlotte that was destined for delivery.

According to the Rowan Sheriff's Office, a total of 60 pounds of high grade marijuana valued at $300,000 was seized.

Soukhanh Saengchanh was charged with two counts of trafficking in marijuana, one count of conspiracy, and one count of maintaining a vehicle/residence to keep and sell controlled substances. Sourachay Mysayakhom was charged with two counts of trafficking in marijuana and one count of conspiracy to traffic marijuana. Bonds were set at $1,000,000 each.

The United States Postal Service Inspectors, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and China Grove Police Department were all involved in the investigation.

  1. Holy shit, China Grove is a tiny town.
  2. I love 5-0's valuation when they bust people. They seized 60# of weed valued at $300,000. lol. If anybody ever pays $5k a pound they're getting burned. Anybody that's buying that kind of weight is definitely not paying those prices.

I saw an interesting news item the other day about states which have legalized medical marijuana in the US.

They've become "mini-mexicos", sending ibs of weed to surrounding states, mainly via the postal system. Its not DNM-related, just the everyday street weed trade.

The restrictive states nearby are suing states with medical marijuana for damages, All because people posted some decent ganja from there. Its almost like each state is a separate country that needs border patrols.

You can live in any state you like, so eventually everyone cool will be in pro-pot states, and only jerks left behind in anti-pot states.

Used to work at the Charlotte UPS hub as a loader and unloader and you could definitely smell weed in the trucks when it would get really hot in the summer, but I never personally noticed any packages in particular that seemed to be suspicious. I think anyone who's ever had a job like that knows it is going through the system and making it though, otherwise it wouldn't happen long-term. I hear all this stuff about UPS being really sketchy, with drug dogs and all that, but I can tell you personally I never saw a dog once in the hub in two years there. Probably not the best way to send things, but I can tell you that you screwed up somewhere or your pack got damaged severely, otherwise even UPS wouldn't care or notice without being tipped off
