Man accused of receiving marijuana by mail in Cullman

Ben Bullard Sep 24, 2016

A Decatur man has been jailed in Cullman County on allegations that he used the U.S. Mail service to receive more than two pounds of marijuana.

Daniel Jones, 23, was arrested following an investigation that culminated last week in a controlled delivery of the alleged drugs to a home in northwest Cullman. Police say Jones intentionally received the marijuana, and was placed under arrest.

*Multiple agencies, including the Cullman Police Department (CPD), the Cullman Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET), the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Postal Service worked together during the investigation. *

According to CPD Cpt. Becky Boyd, the agencies carried out the controlled delivery in a coordinated operation Sept. 16 in Cullman.

"A package containing over two pounds of marijuana was delivered to a residence in the northwestern area of the city," said Boyd in a release. "Daniel Jackson Jones took possession of the marijuana."

Jones was arrested and charged with trafficking in cannabis. He was booked into the Cullman County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $1 million bond.

"This arrest was possible due to the well-orchestrated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies," said Boyd.
