Now people can't say that the feds don't do blockchain analysis.

I highly highly doubt that, I'm near positive that they knew who he was first and then traced it to AlphaBay. The fact he had no legitimate source of income that all originated from crypto would be enough to issue seizure warrants.
Be aware we are not talking about search warrants, these are seizure warrants for his goods.

Ah I remember when people claimed bitcoin was so anonymous... It's only a matter of time until they find a way to trace monero.

I agree. Monero > Bitcoin.

one interesting common thread, all these guys appear to be lone wolves. never have any one of them been taken down by someone close to them. ie friends or partners.
[2 Points] apoefjmqdsfls:
Lol, the guy used his personal hotmail address to greet new visitors https://tech.slashdot.org/story/17/07/20/2147235/alphabay-owner-used-email-address-for-both-alphabay-and-linkedin-profile. The arrest would have happened no matter what crypto he used.
[1 Points] InsanityDRM:
This is far from true. He was damned from the moment his email was discovered in the headers. Whether they were able to track his BTC transactions or not wouldn't of been the difference between the warrant being obtained & not. It just states they obtained the warrants after locating his bitcoin wallets.

The main issue for me is the GUI Beta 2 binaries don't work on Tails or Whonix.
