2 Belgian DNM arrests: MDMA/meth/amphetamine sellers

"Man verkocht internationaal drugs via internet". Google Translate:

BV (47) from Genk has been sentenced to a prison sentence of two years and a fine of 9,000 euros, with half of its postponement because he sold between February 2014 and February 2015 over the Internet internationally amphetamines, speed and ecstasy. To yield optimization yet, forties made even counterfeit stamps to send his packages. "I previously just used the examples of the ones on the website of the post," he admitted. During a search the police found, in addition to the counterfeit seals, including four sacks speed in the freezer, a pot packed ecstasy pills, more than a thousand empty medication capsules and 49 bags of speed. The Genk distributed drugs through specialized forums on the darkweb to customers from around the world. The orders were paid in bitcoins. Investigators found three accounts with 104 bitcoins, which amounts to nearly 20,000. The bitcoins, found the drugs and 370 euro cash had BV bag, were confiscated. A companion from Maaseik was sentenced to a prison sentence of six months on probation. (VCT)

Surprisingly, this might only be the second DNM case where a seller got busted because they were tightwads who decided to forge stamps. The RedBull case, in the German article, included something that Google Translate renders as "counterfeiting stamps"; I assumed at the time that this meant something to do with forging driver's licenses and whatnot, since no one would be so cheap as to take the effort and risk of forging mail stamps - but this case proves me wrong and so makes me wonder about RedBull...

Stamp fraud is a serious crime in the USA.

I just can't believe they were that into profit optimization. Maybe they were just cheap?

Gwern for president

[10 Points] genericmetahub:

It's so cool seeing reasonable sentences handed out to drug crimes. Fuck America's war on drugs.

[7 Points] MDMangel:

In "Murica", this would get you the death penalty.

edit: Holy Shit! How you been gwern. I love you.

[3 Points] FuckYourMyspaceAngle:

Haven't seen you in awhile gwern. Nice to see you even if it's briefly..

As for these guys? Forging stamps is a hazard for anyone who is involved. Easily identifiable packages with these stamps will lead right back to you. Their jail time sure does seem to be on the lighter side.

[3 Points] 2cbking:

Probably charged the customers shipping too. What a bunch of cheap assholes. To put them and their customers at risk of exposure because they were too cheap to , using the money they probably already collected from the buyer for, pay the postage on a shipment. That is just reckless and bad business. I hope it stands out as an example to future vendors who may be considering cutting cost by jewing the postal service.

To clear up the German case: "gefälschte Wertzeichen" seems to be legalese for counterfeited stamps. ( http://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/stgb/__148.html http://www.rechtslexikon.net/d/geld-und-wertzeichenf%C3%A4lschung/geld-und-wertzeichenf%C3%A4lschung.htm ) And no, counterfeit stamps are not some weird European thing, it's just stupid!

[2 Points] octomarvel:

[1 Points] Thethrowawayyy000:

Holy shit it's gwern! I knew you'd come back!

[1 Points] LedLevee:

Richard Kuklinski? Or is he still active? I know he was gone a long time.

[1 Points] chrisidone:

Two years only? Wow that seems really lenient.

I mean imagine all the money you could make in a year...

[1 Points] lordredvampire:

Forge Stamp - bad packaging led to their arrest. THAT'S THEIR DAMN FUCKING FAULT!!

[1 Points] Vendor_BBMC:

Remember:- the police may not have caught him via the fake stamps, it doesn't say that. It just says they were found along with drugs and bitcoins when he was raided.

Counterfeit stamps would fuck the customers, and not the vendor. He probably got caught by a supplier getting busted, like ShinyFlakes, or he ordered sometyhing for himself from Silk roads 1 or 2, or even SheepMarketplace (do they have the server now?).

Most likely, his opsec weakness was the same as most of ours - a woman. Women + drugs + too much time on their hands = trouble.

I bet more than one US vendor got busted when his stupid girlfriend pressed that "1" a second time after kicking off. Just another argument about nothing before her period.

[1 Points] SpiffyWhiff:

How thin are your profit margins?

Your families must practically be starving,

To be that obsessed with profit optimization.

Wait, the accomplice only got probation?!

Counterfeiting stamps is a lot of work,

Cough up the 49 cents you stupid jerk,

Or whatever that it is in Belgian dough,

I'm guessing two waffles, and a teener of blow.

[1 Points] pecrophilyak:

The RedBull case, in the German article [...]

does anyone have the police report(s) on this case? I cant find it on gwerns page and I lost the "bust bookmarks" I had. it all were busts in germany so the sites were german either.
