(x-post from /r/SilkRoad) Why SR 2.0 is obsolete

During one of the latest Defcon statements, he gives us this wonderful nugget:

2. "The marketplace will relaunch as no-escrow. We will not re-implement escrow unless it is multi-signature and decentralized to multiple escrow providers (trusted mediators with feedback just like vendors). Never buy from a market which uses centralized escrow again. You will only get hurt no matter how honest the team is."

Now tell me, what is the point of this marketplace now? You may as well just list vendors and their products along with contact information. What is the difference in this now "FE only" market and just doing direct deals with vendors?

Reasons why simply doing direct deals with vendors is already better than using SilkRoad 2.0:

  1. Cheaper prices. SR charges commission, which means vendor prices are slightly inflated to combat the commission. Most vendors will offer cheaper prices for customers willing to do direct business.

  2. Along the lines of point #1, why in the FUCK would you be willing to let a market make money off of you and the vendor for doing essentially nothing? The option to "dispute", which rarely worked anyway, is now completely obsolete because you have to FE. So what is the market actually doing to make money? Hosting the site? Hosting the forums?

SR 2.0 is obsolete until they actually roll out a decentralized escrow system, which Defcon alludes to but gives zero concrete support to. This won't come soon; what motivates Defcon to work on a decentralized escrow system when he's sitting back making money doing absolutely NOTHING?

Do yourselves a favor, DarkNet users, and find some other way to get your drugs. Whether through another market (which I prefer, thanks to escrow) or through direct deals with trusted vendors, anything is better than giving money to this piece of shit site.

Reasons why Silk Road 2.0 is obsolete:

1. Nigga, is you retarded?

(Directed at anyone needing reasons or explanations as to why it is.)

Funny how they can get the market functioning so quickly. They couldn't even implement AF, resolution, and support in a 2 month period.

[5 Points] ishkabibbles84:

They really aren't doing nothing... they are connecting mass amounts of buyers with mass amounts of sellers.

[2 Points] earthmoonsun:

but... but... it was the transaction malleability, and don't they give you all the lost money back... maybe even more... haha, this defcon is really a con

For those downvoting: What is your rebuttal? I'm genuinely interested.

The Grand Wizard's SR business was dropping off pretty rapidly in the weeks leading up to the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Since then things have been picking up slowly but surely at GWL Agora. Right now I'm inclined toward keeping GWL Silk Road closed for renovations until the dust clears. (Thankfully SR's crack team of developers are making the point moot by letting yet another deadline whiz by ;) ).

That being said, for most n00bs the Darknet drug business IS Silk Road. Sure, a little bit of research will reveal better alternatives. But how many prospective customers are going to make their first stop on the Road? At the end of the day it's all about the Satoshis. If SR3 (or SR2.1, depending on whom you ask) can bring in customers I'll happily serve them. The Grand Wizard does not discriminate: I'll take bitcoins from anybody who wants to give them to me.

[1 Points] None:

SR was never anything but obsolete. Vendors who lost BTC on Sheep and TorMarket didn't even have to think twice about this one...

If I get my money back, I'll use silk road again.

Stop whining. If you want great customer service shop at Amazon. This a dark net market. They have said you will get your money back. Let's see if they deliver, I believe they will. If you buy or sell drugs on a dark net market expect that you may lose some or all of your money, STOP WHINING.
