As per Gandalf, re: Middle Earth Market

I'm guessing Gandalf is an admin?

Regardless, from this post, https://www.reddit.com/r/MEMarketplace/comments/3ijc6d/a_message_from_gandalf_regarding_agora_and_tor/ A Message from Gandalf regarding Agora and TOR Flaws

...<snip>.....We have covered all bases."

I am in a state of flummox regarding this declaration. I don't know if this declaration suggesting all bases are covered at MEM is based on ignorance, greed, naivete or complete denial. I do know that it frightens me.

I'll take my admins paranoid as fuck any day (backopy, Agora team) before a guy that is arrogant or misinformed. An admin not worried about the obvious, new risks in the landscape is certainly not going to make decisions that put my safety FIRST. It seems to me that Mr. Gandalf should be very cautious and meticulous at this stage at least to cover his own ass. If he is not worried for himself and his clients at this stage, then I will not trade on his market. I'm in the process of picking a place to make an order this morning. I'll try Nucleus I suppose.

Well.. what do you want him to say? "I don't really know what vulnerability Agora is talking about, but I think we're OK"

[6 Points] free-agent:

Gandalf is right. It is only theoretical which does not make it fact. Just like the Theory of gravity and the Theory of a ball earth. It is one paper released from MIT. Its really all just scare tactics on the part of LE to make us shit out pants and always think we are getting caught. The news stories you read about should be taken as unprovable since you cant prove them. I will keep doing what I am doing until I get caught, until then who the fuck cares? Life will always go on.

[5 Points] Kazaa99:

What are you talking about? He is one of the best coders we have seen so far, and his statement is not arrogant but just short and right to the point.

That MIT paper as some thinks is the flaw, is really not doable in the current set up, but is made through a "controlled environment" where they have tor relays set up themselves.

Have you read that annoyingly excuse from Agora which just mentions all sorts of nonsense and sounds like it was written by a heavily stoned person.

[5 Points] tailsjoin:

Apparently gandalf is a fucking idiot (unless he was forced to choose that nick), and he thinks his site will be fine because tor has good devs and he does apt-get update every day.

[3 Points] AgRefugees:

Yeah.... NO.

I know a fair amount of vendors are moving to Abraxas.

If you have a vendor you like and still have their PGP key, do a search from Grams http://grams7enufi7jmdl.onion/infodesk and see what market(s) they are on.

Be Safe!

Middle earth isn't the one with java script is it ?

Question:

How can they notice 'strange happenings early on' if it's just a 'theoretical paper'?

[1 Points] None:

Atleast hes honest lol

[1 Points] PlanetDMT:

So is every market vulnerable?

[1 Points] SmauqDrogs:

I haven't thought about MIT's paper since it's theoretical as you (redditors) have stated. I instead think what may cause the deanonimization scenario is what this guy allegedly does.

It could be their is no vulnerability in Tor currently and Agora just used that as the reason to retire. They prob made close to a billion dollars and now want to live the rest of their lives comfortably without having to worry about LE throwing them in prison the rest of their lives.
