I've had quite a few orders on dark net markets not arrive... I've had orders made on people with impeccable ratings that suddenly start exit scamming after I finalize early out of good faith... I'm used to it and it's not a big mystery generally. My current situation is a bit different though.
In every case before, when I've been scammed it's been obvious because the rating of the seller immediately starts a nose dive. I started a habit of not finalizing early because I was understandably upset that I had lost some money in the past. So I bought from a guy on Dream Market with a nearly spotless record.
4.95 out of 5, and 5 out of 5 in the last month, for the last few months actually, with plenty of ratings. I bought an item, it didn't arrive, and I accidentally let it auto-finalize because I'm an idiot. I figured my money was gone, but I contacted the guy anyway because his rating was holding steady. He told me that he shipped it and he would do an 80% reship so I just had to buy an item worth 20% and he'd re-ship the whole amount. After some thinking, I realized it's highly unlikely that he is exit scamming when he has no bad ratings anytime recently, and I can spare the money if he is, so I went for it.
I bought the re-ship, put in my info again, and again the item didn't arrive. This time, I was diligent with the extensions, and I've extended it for so long now that the administration opened an auto-dispute. I explained the situation, and that although the guy had perfect rating and was very friendly over communication even after payment of the first item, I didn't know how to align that with the fact that both items failed to arrive.
So to get to my point: Should I be worried that perhaps I'm under watch by the DEA or something? If both items failed to arrived and by chance the guy ISN'T lying when he said he shipped them, then perhaps they were both taken by customs. Is there any way to tell if that's the case without implicating myself?
