USPS tracking is not meant to be relied upon as definitively real time. The numbers only show up in the system after it's been scanned through some place, usually happens at point of origin, transfer center, delivery place and once delivered. It normally updates within an hour or so of being scanned, but it's not rare for tracking to lag behind, even to the point of not showing up at all until after the package has been delivered.

i've had a couple packs do that. one didn't ever even update as having gone through the origin sort facility before it arrived in my mailbox.
