Good Sunday to all you out there!
First, I'd like to announce that we have added a new mod to the team! He's someone I can never remember his username quite right, but take some time to welcome /u/DerkaDerpaDerp! Like many of you, he's been extraordinarily helpful as a member of the community, I feel he'll really help lighten the load of the team and will be a fantastic addition. Welcome /u/DerkaDerpaDerp and hope you have fun modding with us!
Also, we've gotten quite a bit of feedback regarding the quality of posts in the sub. We listen. We agree there are problems. One fact is, for us old timers, the sub will never be how it used to be. Its grown, there are more people aware of this sub, and it probably will never be the same small community it once was. But that doesn't mean things have to be all bad, growth can be positive.
So given the theme of the complaints, we are going to be modding things a little differently. For quality posters, this will have 0 impact. What we are going to do is monitor posts for quality. I guess it'll be the unspoken Rule 17 - shit posts will be removed. Put thought in your posts. Also, if a question is asked that has no way of being answered by the community, it'll be removed. If you have a question, be specific about your question. If your pack is late, the community isn't going to know if you are fucked. However, if you have specific information and a specific question, that's different. You will notice that these sorts of posts will be remanded to the either the noob sub or the paranoia sub. Removal of the post won't result in bans, unless there is some egregious situation, so don't take it personal, post in the recommended sub, and move on.
As such, this type of curation is dependent on the judgement of the moderator. If we want better quality, this is the way it'll happen. Curating content is the only way to ensure that the quality of the posts is good. So a removal might not be due to a specific rule, but if a post is removed, there will be an explanation as to why. If you disagree, message the mods and state why you feel the post should be approved.
Also, we rely heavily on the community to help police things. We can't be everywhere. Use the report button! If we want a quality sub, it falls on each of us to contribute to it. It can't fall on the half dozen mods solely. We are a community. That requires participation. Also, you may have noticed Automod has gotten a bit extended and witty. We are testing out an Automod system that comes with canned responses to very common questions. Its not fully baked yet, just trying things out. But something like this will enable teh community to help mod the sub in an easy way.
I would also like to take time to recognize /u/100x100ug for his Herculean efforts in helping me with Automod. I had asked for help on a specific problem and he took it and ran with it. He spent really long looking at the problem, created a sub to try things help, and he helped a ton with it. Some of you might have noticed his flair, his flair was in recognition of his help and his continued efforts with this place. Thanks again /u/100x100ug!
Thank you and we are looking at ways to make things better around here. Please feel free to offer up any suggestions. Also, take some time to welcome our new mod!
Thanks everyone. I'll do my best to help out around here. If y'all have any questions or anything feel free to PM me. Thanks!
