My only tip would be to not get the smallest size (cheapest) box. Its only a few extra bucks for the medium or large one then you dont ever have to go to the counter to get your package if its to big or there is to much junk mail in your box.

I knew a guy that LE rigged his PO box to flash bang him as he opened it. The they stormed his ass. .5 gram of coke and a 5 valium in the pack.

No differently than you would get your normal mail. You walk in the lobby, open your box, grab whatever is there, and walk out. There's no real good difference I see to go on odd hours or normal hours as if a package is known to contain drugs they'll have already assured they can follow it or they will be there watching. Unless you're ordering felony amounts and they're setting up a sting, it won't be there and it's too late if it is.
I find a lot of the advice in the threads on this question to be a bit in the tinfoil hat realm. Laws vary by country but you specify USA. Unless you're a very large trader they will have intercepted your pack and come get you, cases like the KX customer who had a PO sting are not busted in the same manner as a personal use amount. People keep imagining that is the normal scenario where it's the exception.
You have to show a name and address to get the pack. If you used fake ID and they care enough to find you, perhaps they'll let you fetch it and perhaps they'll trace it, but the warrant for arrest exists before you get your mail so it doesn't matter. A majority of personal use mailings are seized and you get a letter. But they can come to your home or find your job or whatever measures they wish to employ to find you, real or fake name, dependent on too many factors for there to be a single answer to your question.
The best advice on the Internet is don't take advice off of it. You're better served by learning the penalties of the crime that you're committing and decide if it's worth it to you, then if so, learn to keep your mouth shut if caught and ask for an attorney at your arrest interview. You are assigned an attorney if you can't afford one and meet the poverty criteria for a misdemeanor if jail is a possible consequence at your arraignment at which you plead not guilty and ask for one. At that point you're either detained or released until arraignment, which - if they went to the trouble of arresting you, you're staying until you bond out.
The police only investigate and arrest and try to get a confession. No story you tell them ends in "ok, got it, sorry." None.
This isn't a legal advice subreddit and although you didn't ask for it, this question is common and they all turn into bad bad bad legal advice replies. I only went off topic as had you run a search you'd have found likely hundreds of threads with answers that all conflict and are largely incorrect.
