Flair for Reporting Posts

Okay, I'm spitballing here and haven't discussed with other mods yet, but wanted to get feedback on something. There's a Trilateral Commission of Drug Mods group that obviously I belong to. Aside from the usual talks of world domination, causing recessions b/c we're bored, etc, someone mentioned that in their sub, they reward people who report sourcing violations with flair. I guess sort of like different "levels" of flair.

Here's the problem we are running into. Our job would be so much easier if the community used the report button on posts. What's even more discouraging is when there is a sourcing post, you get people answering it. We should stop doing that. Sourcing and such is going to get this sub shut down. Because I tend to approach behavioral adjustment with punishment, my suggestion to the Commission was to also ban people who answer sourcing posts along with the OP. Someone there, who obviously subscribes to the positive reinforcement philosophy of things, suggested trying to reward people who report posts and contribute in that fashion.

Again I haven't discussed with any of the other mods but I thought this idea was intriguing and might be worth doing. The problem is adding more work to the mods b/c we'd have to track people who report and then add their flair. Might be able to figure out a system.

But before that, wanted to see what you guys thought. Would flair make us more proactive as a community to report posts that violate the rules? Is this something you guys would like? We could have different "levels" of flair too - report 10-20 posts and get like "Hall Monitory" flair, 21-30 get "Jr. Deputy" or some shit. You get the idea. Thoughts?

Can I get, "narc" flair? I rule 4 the shit out of people.

But seriously, the only problem is that reports are anonymous, so you'd have to ask people to take an extra step to get their flair.

I've certainly been guilty of answering, "where can I get the best, X". But I usually answer with, "OP, this is sourcing, so you need to learn the rules, but in my experience, or, looking at recent reviews, you should check out vendors x,y and z." It doesn't seem productive to me to ban people who are trying to be helpful while also encouraging OP to stay within the rules. So maybe banning people who answer rule 4 violation posts is too subjective to carry out?

I for one would love to be a snitch for the greater good of this subreddit.

I remember I proposed at one time we ban people who were helping the sourcer out as in my opinion they were just as bad as the person asking for the source.

I think perhaps warning followed by temp ban then perma ban for repeat offenses would be a better approach?

Also, I like the idea of having "narc" flairs for users who help out the mod team by reporting posts. I'm not sure how you would track it all, like would they have to put their username in the report option so you could go add 1 point to some sort of spread sheet I guess to track it all?

I'm sure there must be an easier way to track it but yeah, I am definitely all for it. (it also helps the mod team find people who might become great mods one day much easier)

Also... Econ, have you upped your dose in the past week or so? You seem more chatty/verbose, which is exactly what happens when I up my opiate dose.

Bonus question: what would you do with an unlimited supply of 2mg dilaudid pills?

[1 Points] throwawayyzzzz:

That report you just got for this thread about sourcing was me...Flair me.

[1 Points] None:

Bruh. I report posts and comments left and right where my flair at.

Reminder that we can all go source at r/DNMsMegathreads and the one I just made r/DNMSources that I'll mod loosely and ban wildly.

I'd say over a time like this would probably cut down on the sourcing, not only because of more proactive members but seeing the flair everywhere will be a constant reminder. Different levels will make it a fun community game.

What do reported posts look like from a moderator's view of Reddit? It shows up in the mod queue or something?

[1 Points] GenericMike5885:

lol Snitch Flair

Small carrots and small sticks. Flair people who accurately report problem posts, especially if the posts belong to pre-designated categories of things that REALLY need to be taken down in short order. Give 24-hour suspensions to accounts that reply with information to sourcing posts, WITH A FRIENDLY EXPLANATION and instructions on WHY they were suspended and HOW to avoid future bans for the same thing. Raise to 3-day suspension for second violation, 1-week suspension for 3rd, then ban if it happens again.

[1 Points] PunchMeLater:

If you go with the flair idea, I think it should be optional for the person reporting something, like a box they could tick if they want it. I don't care about flair and would not want it. So without the ability to opt out of accumulating flair points, I would probably be less likely to report something. Just my .02

[1 Points] BakedPastaParty:

Yeah man I think its a great idea, plus I think ive reported 0 people just because I dont think about. Incentivize it and I literally will abuse it

[1 Points] yungtrapclap:

I try to go out of my way to report as many sourcing posts as I can to maintain the health of this sub. I think the idea you have would be a good thing for this sub and for its future.

The only problem is y'all can't see who reported the threads. I report probably 10 a day whenever I'm on
