DNMPT: Find a good defense attorney and keep their number in your phone and wallet

In light of the "what do I tell police" thread, I thought you guys might want some advice. Find a defense attorney in your area who specializes in drug possesion charges and keep their number in your phone. They usually also handle DUI and related cases. You don't even have to speak to them first or keep them on retainer or anything. Just have the name of the law firm and number handy. I would also keep their business card or contact info in your wallet in case your phone is siezed or you don't want to unlock it in the presence of LEO. I say this because if you are questioned or detained, you don't want to wait for a public defender or find a lawyer in a state of dismay. It gives you a little more leverage to calmly say, "This my lawyer's name, this his number, and I will not be answering any question until I speak to him (or her) first. "

This isn't really specific for DNM users, its for anybody who cares about their rights. You should always have an attorney prepared.

And also, regardless of whether you have their actual card or not, you can simply say to the police "I'd like to speak to my lawyer" and it means the exact same thing.

Good tip, I've had a rabid-dog of a lawyer in my cell for a few years now but never thought about keeping the info in my wallet as well.
