Priority USPS Mail Delivered by Postman in Ordinary Vechicle and Ordinary Clothing.

Has anyone had this happen beforen or something similiar? -Vendor says they never require signature and all previous shipments from the same vendor didn't require a signature. -The domestic parcel didn't have the "Signature Required" box checked. -Postman wasn't wearing offical USPS clothing but had a USPS badge hanging from his lanyard and asked for a signature. -Regular USPS Postman delivers regular mail an hour later. -Hours had passed after opening parcel and goods were intact with no further visits nor has anything out of the ordinary occurred.

While it seemed suspicious I signed anyways because I sometimes get drunk/high and buy random shit off the internet and forget doing so until package arrives. This just so happens to be in my top 10 list of favourite pastimes.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this was priority express (nothing ticked in the 'deliver by time' section however) so after reading everyone's comments and the fact it's been opened well over 24 hours ago I think it's safe to say this is not abnormal and all is well. Thank you everyone for your feedback!

This happened to me in 1997. It was a a guy in a ups uniform but not ups vehicle, insisted I sign,I scribbled something on his pad. He came back 5 min.later saying I needed to sign again. Sender didn't even try to vacuum seal, pack got busted at ship. I told seller to double vacuum seal and overnight pack.plan was if pack didn't land,no accept. He did neither. LE had time to secure warrant and ship pack to LE locally who also had time to secure warrant. As soon as I opened the pack LE raided put guns to my head and tore the shit out the house. This a true story, I ended up serving a 2 year sentence and have been a felon almost 20 years now.

Pretty normal have you not seen the many usps workers in jeeps or other types of vehicles mainly in smaller towns I see it or in the country.

what was in it? it sounds strange but if its been more than a day and depending on what it was you should be ok

was it express and said "deliver by 10:30?" if so they may have gotten a CCA to get it to you or a manager, but I doubt it had anything to do with whats inside.

I have a friend who is a mail carrier. He isn't required to wear a uniform, he only has to have his badge on. He also sometimes uses his own car to deliver parcels. Usually a different person delivers the parcels, while your regular mailman delivers your paper mail. I wouldn't worry.

Maybe your priority pack got mixed in with the express pack? And since express is delivered separately and by plainclothes, plain car USPS employees this guy just went ahead and delivered it.

Do you have any other information you can share with us? Like any circumstances that would make USPS want to do that in order to get it to you in a timely manner. Like was it express or just normal priority mail? If express, was it sent with a 1030am or earlier delivery option. Because that could easily explain why someone who wasnt the normal mail man who go to such efforts to get your package delivered as timely as possible.

Other possibility is the opposite. Was it late? Potentially misplaced? Beucase thats exactly how they would deliver a piece of mail that had got misplaced or ended up out of the main mail stream and needed special attention to figure out what to do with it. Particularly if it was priority mail like stated. THey could have a guy that just drives around delivering things that were misplaced and running late.

Inquiry:

If this happens and you don't expect to have to sign for your package, should you actually sign for it or refuse it?

If you sign for it does this increase your chance to be busted?

Is it best to play dumb, sign for it, then just leave it unopened for a few days?

Inquiring minds want to know.

[1 Points] Da_Bishop:

what did he have you sign on, a peach colored slip or the scanner device or some third thing?

the new hire mail carriers these days (CCA's) don't get uniforms right out the gate... depending on the region they might get a shirt and hat or just a hat, so the ID badge might be all they have for real ID. And they could very well be confused about whether they need a signature or not, and liable to be showing up at a different time than the person who does your route regularly.

I feel like if it was a postal cop they wouldnt be plain clothed-- they would have a uniform, and it would be clean (mail is filthy, so yr average working mail carrier has a dirty shirt). If it was local police and not postal I guess bets are off...

If it's a small PO especially, that will happen. Being a package with a guaranteed delivery time, they might have gotten the package late and a supervisor drove it over.

If it were a CD, it wouldn't be that obvious. Unless they're going the reverse psychology route, then you're fucked.
