Life with possibility of parole after x years, x between 15 and 30.

They're all about the "deterrent", yet too oblivious to realize that since Ross' arrest, no less than 30 other markets have come and gone with few admins ever identified (Backopy? Verto? Missy76?). The guy sunk himself with the attempted hitman stuff... should have practiced the Agora Doctrineâ„¢ and never have written a thing to anyone. ;-)

In a normal first world civilized country, I could see him getting 10 years tops, even with the [fake] attempted hits. Unfortunately the U.S. is by no means a normal first world country, especially when it comes to crimes involving computers. Sentences are beyond out of control.

I know there are mixed feelings about Ross. People are rarely perfect. If this was alternate-reality land and the British had just won the rev. war every goddamn reddit thread praising Thomas Jefferson would have some dickhead pointing out 'well he was a domestic terrorist who had people killed and raped his slaves...' etc.

Ross is still someone I look up to. Even with all the negative stuff, the man doesn't deserve even 20 years in prison. The Wolf of Wall Street- Jordan Belfort- stole 200 million dollars and destroyed lives across the country and he got less than 5 years.

The thing about these Federal sentences- 20 years means 20 years. It's not like state time where it's roughly half off for good behavior. The judge has really no discretion either. If it were up to me I'd like to see him sentenced to some time for the hit-man stuff but not 20 goddamn years. There are so many examples of actual hardened criminal murder/rapists doing less than that.

[5 Points] RosyPalm:

Prosecution is pushing hard for life.

The only thing Ross's defense team proved adept at was pissing off the judge.

Throw in Ross's latest, "I'm not DPR, but the doctor DPR hired can vouch for what a good guy I am... Err DPR is... Uhh, no I meant me.... I think" letter.

Think that's going to add up to a life sentence.

[4 Points] MaltoseMaltase:

20 years then eligible for parole, watch this space.

Honestly Ross is just a geek and he's white, American prisons don't have the capacity to keep people like Ross away when they need room for all the African Americans they like to incarcerate for life.

[2 Points] alhooda:

I wouldn't worry about the time so much it's where he will serve his time. Will he be sentenced to club fed or a maximum penitentiary.

[2 Points] MrCrappy57:

You know what, fuck Harriet Tubman. They should put Ross's picture on the 20 dollar bill.

[1 Points] alphabigmouth:

30 years or life. They'll argue for need for deterrent effect and in federal sentencing they can throw in all sorts of shit he wasn't convicted of, but that they have evidence of.

[1 Points] maniahck:

I think 30 years, i really hope they don't give him life...

[1 Points] None:

he dies in jail. should have exit-scammed!

[1 Points] DancingWindAway:

Guess he will die in prison, worst case: He isn't even conceived as a martyr, but rather a normal criminal who did it for the money.

At this point his problem is that he is in the US, can't really understand why he stayed in the US in the first place, he knew the laws there are brutal, but I guess family and friends were the reason.

If he were convicted in Norway he could still live a normal life and give AMAs (yes they got Internet in jail there, lol). But the US locks people up for good and throws away the key.

[1 Points] roidragequit:

LWOP, which he earned

[1 Points] frunobulaxpoodle:

"Well I turned 75 in prison doing life without parole. No one could steer me right but mama tried, mama tried.. "

[1 Points] julian6:

I hope: 30 years

I think: Life without parole

[1 Points] twigburst:

He's going to get life.

[1 Points] Insipid_Pedantry:

Life without parole.

[1 Points] agoradsuxxx:

Does anyone know if full court transcripts have been released?

[1 Points] mad87645:

Dude's fucked. He'll get life, maybe get eligibility for parole.

[1 Points] None:

Ross Ulbricht hasn't even begun to peak.

[1 Points] None:

Hate to say it but probably 45

[1 Points] None:

The judge is going to throw the book at him. Life, maybe with parole after 20-30 years or something.

Edit: Wait...Parole isn't possible with federal time, right? Or is it? Can you get released early somehow?

[1 Points] procowtipper:

Life w/no parole...

[1 Points] cantFindValidNam:

How does one even begins to accept the fact that he'll be in prison for 20+ years?

[1 Points] thromeawayfar:

30 years

[-2 Points] sycophantelephant:

life. He is a loose cannon. His attempt at remorse after a no guilty plea is highly dubious (even though I am a big fan of his...obviously!).

He facilitated billion dollar drug distribution network. It enabled kids to get access of shit they wouldnt otherwise allegedly resulting in their death. This is the framework for a RICO case.

He was entrapped into organising the murder of 2 different people with the (albeit false) help of existing criminal syndicates (bikers...the scum of the earth).

He is a megalomaniac, not a fucking revolutionary. He made a good site, and that is where it ends.

give him the fucking chair for all I care. SSBD is out, he is the only innocent person from SR
