Athens, GA drug bust, possibly DNM related.

Police in Athens-Clarke and DeKalb County are investigating the activities of a 41-year-old Athens man who is accused of being an ecstasy trafficker, according to recently filed court documents.

Following his arrest three months ago in Decatur, while in possession of sizable quantities of drugs, local authorities seized large sums of cash and other assets from William Jesse York's home and banks.

York was arrested in Decatur in August with more than two ounces of MDMA, an illegal drug that acts as both a stimulant and hallucinogen. Commonly known as ecstasy, MDMA is popular among teens and young adults who frequent raves, or all-night electronic music dance parties.

During a traffic stop by a DeKalb County police narcotics unit, York was said to be in possession of hundreds of Xanax pills, ecstasy pills and several ounces of marijuana. Police said the drugs, located in a book bag, were packed in envelopes with shipping labels addressed to several different people.

That same day, the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force conducted a search of York's home on Whitehall Road in Athens. According to the search warrant, filed Monday in Clarke County Superior Court, drug agents found ecstasy, Xanax and oxycodone pills, a powdery substance believed to be MDMA, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, a pill capsule loading machine and digital scales.

There also was $35,000 in U.S. currency, bundled in a vacuum sealed bag, according to the search warrant.

According to the warrant, drug agents also found evidence of York having multiple bank accounts, and upon executing a search warrant at one local bank they found a safe deposit box containing more than $130,000 in cash.

"The tactic of having multiple accounts at multiple banks is used to hide funds from law enforcement an government agencies," a drug task force member stated in the affidavit supporting a search warrant request. "With the accounts spread over multiple banks, Mr. York has a greater chance of keeping some of his illegal funds where no one would think to look at multiple accounts."

York has no criminal record in Athens. When arrested in Decatur he was charged with trafficking in MDMA, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute Xanax, a prescription drug for the treatment of anxiety.

An occupant of his car, Victoria Lampe, also was arrested on similar charges. York was released from the DeKalb County Jail five days later upon posting bond in the amount of $30,000.

With possible criminal charges pending in Athens, Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney Ken Mauldin filed a complaint for forfeiture of all of the money seized from York's homes and banks, totaling $179,273.39, plus other assets.

A Clarke County Superior Court judge also ordered York's accounts to be frozen.

tl;dr He was arrested in August with a backpack that had several packages of drugs ready to be mailed. He seemed to deal everything other than meth.

Damn that's close to home. I hope the local postal isn't stepping up surveillance during the holidays.

Definitely needs to be illegal. 5ever.

Worst thing about this is that it was dudes first offence despite being 41yrsold.

That's like nearly bowling a perfect game but throwing a gutterball on the final frame and having it erase your score n freeze your bank accounts.

=,(

Damn dude. Anyone notice an ecstasy vendor MIA 3 months ago? I remember one well known vendor got popped (well story more complicated) and it was in the newspapers. But it wasn't until much later, if ever, that DNMs were mentioned. I don't know if this sub ever made the connection.

Edit

I remember his widow did go public with it. But I don't think anyone believed her but she was legit. The vendor was MollyMuse IIRC. He killed himself after getting arrested. I didn't want to break confidence Bc she reached out to the mods. But I remember now she posted about it publicly but I don't think anyone believed her. It was an odd story but confirmed by LATER news stories. So she had to have insider knowledge
