I ship from China a lot, sometimes up to 10kg, mainly counterfeit goods so I can help to an extent (I'd imagine if they search a lot of packs then I would have lost one of my orders but I've received 22/22 from China)

I've nether had anything to missing from China to Canada for lighter weight items. The ship times was anywhere from 2 days to 3 months.

If I'm not mistaken, everything gets sorted into two categories of shipments: 1- documents 2- non documents
Documents = cardboard envelopes / business letters (basically anything paper)
Non documents = anything with a commodity other than paper and that has a certain weight to it.
So to answer your question, anything over 1lbs or 1/2kg would get more scrutiny than documents. Some pass, some don't. This rule applies world wide in most courier companies.
In addition to that, Canada has been going through some exceptionally strict time, with fent and heroin over flowing the streets and media, both canada and china are on high high alert.
Just be careful, and if you can, try ordering something that doesn't catch the customs awareness.

Everything comes from China.
It's could be xrayed.
You avoid it at all costs or you do it in combination with a separate large and legal shipment. This is all very illegal and too risky. So you only do stuff like this when you know you are ready and not asking for info on Reddit.
CBSA going hard on anything from china these days don’t risk it
