Back page CEO arrested, charged with sex trafficking.

BREAKING: Carl Ferrer, the CEO of Backpage. com, was arrested in Houston hours ago by Texas authorities as part of a joint investigation. He is now facing pimping and related charges in California.

Earlier this year, Nightline investigated Backpage. com after Ferrer failed to show up to a Senate human trafficking hearing about his site. After he didn't respond to our request for an interview -- Nightline tracked him down to look for answers.

Prostitution is illegal unless you pay for a license and videotape it, welcome to America

Anybody that is doing any kind of shit on the internet where the US government isn't getting a slice of their chedda pie should immediately move to a country with no extradition, imho. Cause these greedy fucks give no fucks.

Pimpin ain't easy!!!

Another bullshit 21st century American con job.

So if I offer others a platform for them to express themselves via speech I now become what? A terrorist? A pimp? How 'bout a lobbyist?

Are lawyers who represent clients who express themselves in ways 'offensive' to the state now at risk of being arrested and prosecuted?

Fuck this noise.

Far right American politicians only appreciate sex partners who are pre-pubescent. Time and time again that truth has been revealed.

9000 uses Backpage to source his midget hookers....bahahahahaha!!!!

"Trafficking" is such a manipulative and dishonest term. When most people read it they think of people being forced to do work - especially sex work - against their will. They think of the movie Taken. This extreme is only a very small percentage of people that are considered "trafficking victims". And yet under many definitions any sex work is considered trafficking. And most of the non-sex work related victims are actually working completely voluntarily. They just had to make a business deal about traveling to work because - shocker - the people spending the money for travel expenses and papers don't want to lose money on that extremely risky endeavor. But ultimately these people choose to do this work because it is their best option! "Victims".

back in 2014ish paypal and creidt card companies stopped accounting with backpage. So instead of changing or closing down they went to bitcoin.

2016-hookers needed a way to cash in and out of btc a lot of newer btc atms came online. http://tobitcoin.ca/using-the-iphone-6-bitwallet-backpage/ for reference.

I guess we are going to find out how much the price jump was related to sex at this point.

Anyone else think a Tor prostitution site/market would be a great thing? I personally think the worlds oldest profession should be legal and properly regulated, but as that is not happening any time soon, the world needs a safe place to do this business, safe for all parties, with feedback, reviews, safe way to deal with money, etc. Workable?

Yes, there will still be the usual problems, but many of them could be severely mitigated or eliminated with technology and the DNM model, and it would be a lot safer then the streets!
