Monero: a new hope or all hype?

Monero is one of the dominant topics in this sub right now.

It has been hailed as the leading truly anonymous crytocurrency by many. With the fall of AB and its acceptance many others doubt that this coin survive.

How do you think it will play out?

Why would a DNM accept BTC when it is all traceable, just does not makes sense to me, so if you make a transaction it gets added to a public ledger till forever. Why would you all leave a big footprint lol.

Also 1BTC ≠ 1BTC, by this i mean 1BTC can be blacklisted because of its history so for example you can get hold of a coin that has been used to buy drugs so no one wants this bullshit crap.

Monero is fungible and 1XMR = 1XMR, both coins cannot be linked. This is the type of cash we need here.

Also if you have been following crypto markets you can see whether Monero is being pumped or not, it is one of the stable coins.

I haven't done a ton of digging on the technical aspects of XMR. Based on things I've read on this sub, it does seem to have a few inherent advantages in terms of being a cryptocurrency.

Some have a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to XMR because it's assumed AB hyped it up only to benefit themselves via pump and dump. However, just because they shilled it for their own benefit doesn't invalidate the potential advantages XMR may have over BTC.

Some complaints: there isn't a way to directly buy Monero like BTC and some complained about the XMR wallet/GUI (or lack thereof) but it's been a while since I checked that out, it may be better now. Another issue is that BTC is so widely accepted on the DNM that it's going to be hard for XMR to take the throne unless something radical happens to BTC usage or markets/vendors open up universally to accept XMR. Also, no multisig. For more info, check out the Monero sub-reddit or hopefully someone who knows more about it than myself will chime in.

I have been around the technical era of Bitcoin where prices where still around $10-12. To me Monero feels very similar to Bitcoin at this stage, incredibly interesting, very great and helpful community and a tech which might change the world (quite literally). The hype is real, but the hype is also very early. Monero might still encounter some catastrophic failures along the way which could tear it completely apart. But same could have been said about Bitcoin back then. Personally, I have already made the 100% switch to Monero and stocking up on new XMR with every pay check I get.

i first want a way to buy it directly not via bitcoin etc , once vendors start to accept it, it will rise on the dnms. just need the big ones to do so.

Both. It is both.

Also, to be taken with a grain of salt: A lot of people are engaged in currency speculation with Monero (people who look at BTC's history and somehow think they can 'time the market'.). There's a vested interest in hoping their lunch-money investments will result in them living like Hugh Heffner, complete with girl-filled grottos, if they can hype it enough. Any post or reply that sounds emotional is going to be from these folks. I can't imagine why else anyone would need a crotch-cleaning on one of the driest subjects on Earth...currency markets.

It's been a great option for me thusfar. I'm not going to pretend that it's the only readily anonymous crypto out and usable right now, but I'm a fan.

(The XMR community has a lot of biased jerks in it, and fluffyponza isn't the nicest dude/a particularly great figurehead, but that doesn't effect the tech.)
