I have been formulating a plan to access the darknet, and I have been studying a guide created by Jolly Roger concerning steps to protect anonymity and prevent LE discovery. He speaks of his "preferred" method being to run tails within a virtual box within a USB drive. I believe his rationale is that booting directly to a USB could allow Tails to write data to your main hard drive, and not being confined within the USB. I am confused on the topic. My question is this: Is there an advantage to the setup i mentioned above (tails in VB in a USB) versus directly booting your PC to a USB containing Tails? I am a beginner, and I have not accessed the darknet yet. So far I have downloaded tails and verified the iso file. That's it. I found a few posts speaking of matters related to this, but I have not found a direct answer to this. Also, virutual box does not support a portable version for usb use, to my knowledge. There are links to an unofficial portable VB, but I am wary of 3rd party developers. Thanks. Guide: (see part 2) http://www.deepdotweb.com/jolly-rogers-security-guide-for-beginners/
I think I just found the answer to my question in another post...indirectly. It seems that I can use a 2nd usb for the persistent volume.Aside from the persistent volume, is there ANY other data that may be stored onto my primary HDD while using tails via usb AND a separate USB for the PV?
