Anyone experienced buying burner laptops?

If so, do you recommend craigslist, mom and pop computer store, or anywhere else i dont know about? Any good cheap brands you recommend? If buying at a smaller mom and pop outlet, do you need to provide ID or give any kind of name/address info when buying one? Basically looking to just walk in, grab a cheap $100-$200 laptop, not have to register it or give my name, pay with cash and leave.

ID to buy a laptop? You live in North Korea or something? Just pay straight cash at any electronics store or used on ebay/craiglist.

You don't need ID or anything to purchase a laptop with cash. Your best and cheapest choices are an Acer Aspire One netbook, or off lease Dell/IBM/Lenovo laptops.

When ive bought burner phones yes a few times tjeyve asked for ID just so they can type it into computer faster than you dictating it to them.

Check a pawnshop. Saw a bunch of them today.

Purchase a cheaper laptop brand new in cash from a reputable retailer. You have no way of knowing if the seller backdoored your shit somehow (Hardware keylogger, hidden mic/camera, backdoorer firmware, etc although this is probably paranoia). Off lease laptops are another good option.

Check estate sales. It's where I got mine. I had to pay 80$ to fix it but it was worth it.

$60-$70 business class laptop on ebay. They usually have the HD removed already.

Try to find out if there are any common issues with the particular model though. My motherboard died after 9 months.

Do you know the basics of laptop repair? You can buy broken ones off of craigslist or ebay for $10-50 depending upon condition. Buy two of the same model with different problems and whip together Frankenstein's Darknet Monster on the cheap.

It also helps to research common issues with a certain model before buying and attempting repairs. Some are prone to LCD backlight issues, hinge failure, motherboard issues, for example, and require varying degrees of skill, effort and patience to fix.

Keep in mind TAILS will work on basically anything made in 2005 or newer, so the guy that just cleaned out his basement and has a dusty laptop with 1GB of ram and a fried harddrive will gladly take your low-ball offer, because he doesn't know you're just going to plug a bootable USB drive into it and be good to go.
