Agora down 24 - 48 hours

This was posted on the Agora forums. (I find it funny that I can never get the market and the forums to work at the same time)

We are sorry to say that we have yet another downtime, especially considering the latest bad news within the dark market ecosystem. However our security protocols have unfortunately again caused an incident that we have to resolve and we estimate that this can take 24 hours, in the worst case 48 hours of downtime. We wish to assure you that we haven't "run off" with any money and the service will be restored properly. All the deposit addresses will be restored as before, but obviously we don't encourage you to deposit anything at this time, it's only common sense to wait with that until the issue has been resolved and the site is operational again. Thank you for understanding. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----

Given circumstances I've started to realize how much the darknet has spoiled me, and how much I rely on them. I put up with these downtimes and keep putting money in because even though I lose money sometimes it's still safer, less expensive, and I know what I'm getting generally comes from a reliable source. If I was forced to go back to the streets to get drugs... Well I probably wouldn't even bother. Honestly I think there's so many shitty people surrounding drugs as a whole that I wouldn't even try to find someone to supply me with huge amounts of acid and the other things I do from time to time. I know lots of people are upset and distressed by this, but thank you Agora for staying up as long as you have and giving me the experiences I needed to change my life around and save me from almost commiting suicide, I stopped smoking, I dropped out of college and found a good job doing what I love, found the woman of my dreams, an apartment, a car, and the opportunity to visit Europe for a month, propose, and see new years in London. I know drugs aren't for everyone. But they were for me, and because of the darknet my life has never been better. I'm no longer depressed like I was, I'm not sitting around thinking of ways to off myself, and quite often I find myself looking back and feeling like the last year of my life has been a fairytale. If you ever leave, I'll be at peace with that knowing that what I have gotten out of my drug experiences has and will influence me for the rest of my life in a positive way, and I won't go looking for another fix, knowing I've already lived this chapter of my life to it's end. My fiancée is aware of my drug use and hasn't minded it, and now I'm officially at a point where I no longer need them and have stopped doing everything except lsd and occasionally my now prescribed benzos for panic attacks and anxiety. I don't know exactly where I would be if I had never found the markets, but I know I would not have been given these opportunities. You guys are the best, smartest community that I've spent time with on reddit, blue light, agora, evo, TMG, and SR forums. I've spent countless hours here and there and everywhere, mostly just lurking. It warms my heart to see that I am definitely not the only person out there, and lots of if not most of us are respectable, considerate people. I'm not saying drugs are good, but this environment was exactly what I needed to motivate myself to go out and be the person I wished to be in the world. Thanks guys. Thanks Agora. You gave me the tools to change my life for the better, and that's exactly what I've done. Drugs gave me a better, more positive outlook on life, and without it I would probably be pushing up daisies.

When these guys pull their exit scam, they're going to be sitting on the beach in Belize smoking blunts laughing at us before we'll even know what's happening.

[16 Points] galaxyandspace:

Maybe they are setting up Multisig...

AManCanDream ;)

[14 Points] Theeconomist1:

Damn. But it is better safe than sorry. As annoying as it is, I'd take 80% uptime and them do proper security upgrades and not run away with coin than Evo's 100% uptime run by motherfuckers.

our security protocols have unfortunately again caused an incident

Does this mean they were attacked? Is this their usual speak whenever they do security upgrades? I didn't follow Agora until recently (for obvious reasons), so not sure if this is there usual way of saying they are upgrading or if there was an actual security breach or problem.

I still wonder about Evo. I guess everybody is pretty sure it was an exit scam and not LE? Had so much information overload its like nothing makes sense. LOL. But I didn't see too much speculation about LE and I guess it was b/c NSWGreat "confirmed" it was an exit scam - yet he's proven himself an unreliable narrator, so hard to know what to make of it.

There goes my weekend plans..

[5 Points] None:

To those wondering if this is a scam, I would not worry. I know there are a lot of Evolution refugees coming over, welcome to Agora! The site has been consistently down about 1 in 5 times the average visitor tries to access it. However, it always bounces back, and we are very LUCKY to have it. A lot of quality vendors here. Just be prepared for regular 24-48 down times on the somewhat regular. Therefore, it's wise to plan accordingly.

Australian vendors: list your shit on Blackbank so that we Aus customers have somewhere to buy from when this happens.

[3 Points] DNMd:

Damn, I wanted to finalize for RoyalOil. Just got my 7g of BHO, it's fucking dank.

[3 Points] eyeofyourmind:

Anyone know roughly how long they have been down?

[3 Points] JohnnyClash:

Hope they upgrade that Windows 98 Server ;') Needs more POWER to serve the world. Also move away from that DSL line needs some gigbit leased line in guys.

[3 Points] Shrimmmmm:

I'm losing money=( will the bitcoins be worth anything by the time Agora comes up??

[3 Points] Shrimmmmm:

So don't sell my bitcoins or sell? What's everyone else doing?

[3 Points] NotMeU:

I’ve not been able to verify this message with their public key “Agora One”. Would you care to share the Public Key that was used to verify the message? This is of some concern as support has not been responding to encrypted communication and use clear text.

Glad I already got my order placed this weekend, i suppose.

[2 Points] SSASERTPO:

So two of my orders were going to finalize automatically within two days. Does this mean I won't get a chance to get the deadline extended.

[2 Points] throwawayspoiledmilk:

Looks like I'm using middle earth.

[2 Points] moneyofthefuture:

I just talked to the admin guys, no problem! they are going to refund everything asap!

in the mean time, you can buy & hold some more bitcoins!

If this is a scam this is terrible.

I find it odd that they didnt give a heads up as in, We will be shutting down in 2 hours for 24-48 hours.

Atleast let vendors collect money people were willing to FE and get any last minute orders out.

I'd rather have downtime and be safe and secure than constant uptime, fast speeds, and then WHAMO exit scam from carding operators (I heard people involved in fraud are super trustworthy /sarcasm).

[1 Points] LondonFuckBoys:

...blackbank it is.

At least my vendor is on both.

[1 Points] AArchos:

hope you`ll back very very soon!! ...and NO exit scam..... ;-) ;-)

Wow, huge bitcoin price drop on BTCe... this must be why.. :( Just like with Evo news, it will just bounce back up. Exchanges have proven they can prevent criminal sell-off.

[1 Points] twalker11:

I'm pretty sure they will be back. On the bright side this wi allow vendors to catch up and user time to get there bearings. Who know some of those EVO orders might still come.

[1 Points] tofu2404:

I placed an order 2 days ago, with posibility of escrow or FE once the vendor confirm the order, and I chosen escrow, because I don't want bad surprises, although the vendor seems very legitim, with a high raiting and a lot of deals, and in their profile he said that he would great appreciate FE payments, but if the buyer still not sure then choose escrow, and I chosen escrow.

He marks my status shipped yesterday as Confirmed, that means he got the order info I guess, and before mark as Shipped, a vendor could put that status before send too, isn't it? My question is: when Agora works again maybe today (I hope) or tomorrow, then he ship my order probably? Even if I leave my btc in escrow yet, like I choosen yesterday, till the order arrives if he doesn't ask to me for a FE before send.

I understand that the vendors prefer FE, for the circumstances like these: market downtimes, devaluate of bitcoin, and all of that, but probably they understands too that the buyers need a type of warranty (at least at first time buying to one vendor), and that is keeping the founds on escrow till the order shows up.

I know is a reliable vendor in fact so much, in another case I don't place an order to him, but like is my first time with him, I think that is the reasonable choice. If yesterday would know about this downtime, would have given the FE after he marks the order as confirmed, but how I could know this? He's a vendor by their rating and deals that deserves a FE payment if this crap happens, but that is impossible of know before happens.

I hope that Agora works luckly today at night, or tomorrow, to see the update about my order and the status of shipped. I regret don't gave to him FE after the confirmed, but now it's late to do something. Only left wait, and pray that everything gonna ok and that he ship my order with normality when Agora works again, and when arrives the order, I click in finalize to release the escrow, like I chosen in their moment.

[1 Points] emily_from_evo:

it seems like agora is down often or running slowly quite often. that's one of the reasons i've been reluctant to use them.

[1 Points] CameronBlaze1:

Does Everybody Else Feel The Same Way About This I Posted On The DeepDotWeb? This is a great site, but needs much improvement when it comes to the layout and a few other things. • I can't seem to ask the vendors a question before buying the item. • I can't seem to favorite any items on the market to save them for later so I don't have to look for it again. • The layout of items are very confusing with the way it goes from grid, to grid, to columns. (It just shouldn't take this much "getting used to.") • Everything is much more expensive than Evolution was... :( • It is down ALL THE TIME, but I do understand that, with their security...but why did Evolution, as huge as they were, never have these problems? • It is hard to explain this one, but everything is so basic, yet also, so complex? If that makes sense? The categories and way they work takes too much getting used to, once you finally figure out how to get to the column view of items, the items are small and isolated... • One more thing I can think of, the filtering needs more filter options...

Maybe While They Are Down, They Can Throw These Improvements In There

[1 Points] thegoodbad:

When the site is back up? any updates???

[1 Points] -snowfisch-:

is agora still down? because the site was online ( see: https://dnstats.net/market/Agora ) and now offline again..

[1 Points] HappySodomy:

Perhaps this is some growing pains caused by the Evo-fiasco? I wouldn't worry too much till they start going past the time they presented without an update.

AGORA please please use DGA and start effectively routing traffic trough your servers. I think your going to need more than desktop server to handle the traffic.

AMAZON WEB SERVICES! for Agora. lol. Really. I think this would be a very helpful and lucrative opportunity for a group of talented individuals to create the AWS of Darknet. Where it is easy to increase computing power, route traffic, and manage credentials as well as other services.
