No room to upgraede to tails 2.6

I run tails from USB, not a big one and have keys and whatnot on it as a persistent drive. I cannot update automatically due to space, I did last time.

When I look at the install instructions I really do not see how to upgrade the current drive and not lose my pgp and all of that, All instructions make it as if you need to have another up to date tails usb to use? I thought I could over write my existing install and install the new version while not losing the persitent drive. No? Is there a way to upgrade to the latest version and not lose your shit? When the prompt comes up when I open tails it states that there isn't enough room to doa manual update or something like that. I just do not want to wing it and have to start from scratch.

I updated in-place over the weekend and my persistent volume remained.... for a day or two. Then yesterday I boot up tails, enter my persistent volume password, it loads up yet my freaking volume is gone!!!! Luckily it's still available by browsing manually to '/live/persistence/TailsData_unlocked/' directory but it doesn't auto-load PGP keys/etc so I have to manually import them now.

You might be best to just build a fresh USB from scratch. I'll be doing the same, that was very scary having my persistent volume not show up. Don't risk it if you don't have it backed up.

If you have a blank dvd laying around or extra usb. Just download the newest tails on it and follow the instructions for updating manually via tails site

Fucking nightmare, internal developers aware of it.

Would a massive USB say 64 gb eliminate the need to do this every few updates because it has a lot of space available for many upgrades?
