Any Kiwi's out there that would like to shed some light on the subject?

It's an issue of volume. NZ has fewer people, so fewer packages overall. That's slowly changing, as the people are ordering a lot more direct from China (via aliexpress), so customs is probably scared they won't be able to keep up. We know they're not catching everything, already.

In that second article, they say the penalty is the same. What they don't say is that they still have to prove you were the one who did it. Anyone could send you a pack. The thing that's scary is that they're trying to pass legislation that can allow them to compel you to give them your passwords and encryption keys. But that's just kind of silly, because it really wouldn't be hard to not even know your encryption keys, and passwords, and not be able to provide access to them. It's also pretty easy to have a hidden partition set up in veracrypt, so that if they got the password, all they would find is compromising pictures of your love interest... Actually, it gives me the thought that we could ddos their post system pretty easily. Send hundreds of thousands of different looking packages, with personal use amounts of unlaid blotter paper to a whole lot of addresses, with proper stealth. Could be fun to bring a national postal system to its knees, and/or prove they're lying or inflating their numbers.

But I digress that such things are somewhat unethical, because they would impact people who are not part of this fight. And probably give up more information about stealth than we want to.

Still. I think they're bullshitting. The only people I have seen in the news who got busted for DNM transactions, the fact that it was darknet didn't matter, it was that the house was not clean, or someone ratted. Or bought from a honeypot (or the Netherlands... Same thing).

BTW, there's /r/darknetmarketsnz if you want to cross post

I have never personally tried importing any illicit substances in to New Zealand but from what I do know from A particular kiwi friend of mine, with the right opsec and finding vendors that use solid stealth for international standards and keeping your mouth shut you will generally be fine. Use safe drop locations. NZ customs are pretty much up there with Aus, who are arguably the most rigorous and thorough customs in the world. Do not underestimate them but at the same time remember that whilst our beloved LE here feel as if they are making dents in DNM activity the reality is they aren't really making much progress. Look at the stats in that herald article, 169 ecstasy seizures over two years...hmmm. Who knows, maybe I don't actually know anything.

P.S Said friend has only ever had one package (potentially) seized by NZC in many years on DNM, though never received a love letter so could well have just been lost in the post (no tracking #). Try a couple of different vendors to evaluate their stealth, product quality and shipping times before placing any larger orders. Good luck bro
