Are there any more precautions that you should take now?
Anyone who doesn't know, basically the Government is using the ISIS threat as an excuse to past draconian laws that allow them:
- a provision that ASIO can spy on an undetermined number of computers, potentially the whole internet if you wanted to get scary about it, with a single search warrant
- provisions that enable Australia's spy agencies to work together more (because sharing whose privacy your breaching is caring)
- greater penalties for those who reveal ASIO officer identities or release secret documents. (Whistleblowers can go to jail for 10 years)
EDIT: Brainfart. I meant to say darknet users in the title.
It means we're one step closer to that utopian country of the future where the government has absolute power to do whatever it wants to it's citizens with no oversight and no consequences.
As for us on DNM, I have to trust that the encryption provided by GPG and TOR is enough to hide me from online spies, and the stealth used by the vendors is enough to hide from customs. I'm not sure there's anything else security-wise we're not already doing...
I'm curious what more security-orientated people might suggest thought.
Oh, and on a personal note, for me, it means that emigration is looking increasingly more inviting.
