[GeneralQuestions] Cannabis Advice Needed - Wisconsin

I've been using medical marijuana for quite a while and have a few questions. I'm a working professional in Wisconsin who definitely doesn't want to get caught with a bag of weed at home. My criminal record is clean, but I would still likely lose my job and have major problems if I was busted.

My problem: Simple possession is a misdemeanor in WI (at least for the quantities that I order) and I access weed via the DNM. So far, I've ordered ~1 oz or so each month and have had no problems with receiving my orders and dealing with the vendors on Evo, Agora, and BB. My OPSEC is fine for a buyer (Tails, PGP, etc.) and I think that my primary risk is ordering and having it delivered to my house, but I try to mitigate this by cleaning house well before an expected delivery arrives and using reputable vendors. I realize that I could use a drop for my deliveries, but I'm not interested in doing this. For the record, I live by myself and nobody is aware of my use.

My question: I'm considering ordering some seeds and growing my own (indoors) to eliminate the risk of having a package intercepted. Cultivation of any amount in WI is a felony and treated the same as intent to distribute, even if it's only for personal use. By growing my own supply (1 or 2 plants), I face an increased risk if busted, but a less likely risk of being busted since I probably won't receive any illegal items in the mail anymore. What should I do? Any professional opinions on this? I'm stumped and could use some expert advice. Obviously, saving money by growing it myself is a good thing, but safety and keeping a clean record are my primary concerns.

I really hate that this stuff hasn't been decriminalized here yet. Thanks in advance for your help.

If that's even true. Especially since you're growing indoors and you'd need proper lighting which consumes a shit ton of electricity.

safety and keeping a clean record are my primary concerns.

That being said, growing your own would be the safer option, provided you keep it on the low low. You probably won't have DNM quality product your first try though.

If a package gets caught and like you said, you clean house before, and LE comes to your house you have a CLEAN house and they have no way to prove it. Just dont order to that address again... So you got a get outta jail free card there.

However, not so much if you grow. You could buy seeds and just store, so if one package is intercepted then you can start growing.

With all growing things considered (time it takes, effort, maybe not getting good product first time) i wouldnt unless it was legal.

Criminal law thoughts;

If you get busted receiving drugs in the mail its almost certainly going to be charged as federal crime rather than state crime. This is very bad since feds have incredible resources and little to no motivation to plead it out. On the other side of that, if you don't incriminate yourself you would much better odds of succeeding on an "I didn't order anything" argument (the theory being that anyone can place an order and ship to whomever they so desire).

Getting busted growing will almost definitely be charged as a state crime and with your clean record, you would likely be offered a plea deal, possibly even a plea down to a misdemeanor. The flip side here is that when if you're busted with plants in your home, you can't really try to argue that they aren't yours.

Other considerations;

Growing is a significant amount of work. Growing means you won't have anything for 3-6 months from when you actually start the grow, and unless you have rooms for clones and separate areas for vegetation and flowering stages, you're only going to be able to restock your supply every 3-6 months. On top of all that, unless you know people to trade bud with you're going to be smoking the exact same strain or strains for 3-6 months.

Yet another consideration on growing is that shit can, and does, go wrong. You can spend months of time and money on nutrients, power bill for lights and fans - only to get spider mites in the last few weeks or mold while drying and curing - either of which likely means massive, if not total loss of your harvest.

You would loose your job for a misdemeanor?

Talk to a lawyer. Weigh the risks. Know what maximum penalties are, and know what it would cost to fight any charges and what the likely outcome would be in each scenario.

If you can't deal with getting caught, don't do it. That's true for ordering, growing, or dealing.

If you can make sure it is somewhere no one will accidentally come across absolutely grow your own. The only people who get caught growing are the ones who think it's cooler to show their friends plants instead of nugs. No partners in the grow world if you want to stay successful in your own goals as a grower. The beautiful thing about cannabis is that you control how big it is and how much space you want to supply the plant to grow and it will thrive in spaces small and large. Best of luck man. Plus the satisfaction of smoking something you've grown yourself is probably the greatest feeling of success a marijuana enthusiast can give himself.

As a fellow Wisconsinite, be careful! Just been to jail and have to pay over a grand in tickets just because of weed.

Ordering a zip a month is safer than growing plants IMO. I would only recommend growing if you're reselling and getting pounds of kush a month. Good luck bro!

based on what you seem to be concerned about, stick to buying. unless you're really curious about growing pot, I see no upside to switching to growing yourself.

the chances of getting busted in either are relatively low but a grow operation is more attractive target to LE than someone being shipped personal use levels of weed.

Think through the chain of command-
federal government: they could not care less about an oz of weed in the mail. they will throw it in the trash. state police: miiiiiight follow up on it but an oz of weed? prosecutors will get mad at the cops for bringing such a shit case to them. local police: depending on the size/coolness of your city, cops could not care at all or could raid you with ridiculous DHS tanks. If you live in Milwaukee I would assume the cops have better things to do. Some small town, not so much. Still, you have to have it intercepted first (unlikely).

The incentives to arrest or prosecute for someone growing, with a potential ~lb sitting in the house at any given time, much more attractive to local and state police/prosecutors. Cops don't like drugs in their town, they DEFINITELY don't like production facilities.

Chances of being caught and prosecuted for personal use weed for a DNM user employing good op/sec? Minimal.

You seem like a slightly paranoid person. A grow operation, even a small one, is a giant crime sitting in your house 24 hours a day. You have to change who you invite over. You REALLY can't talk about it to anyone. It's dumb enough to talk about DN stuff in real life, but your own local grow op? Insane. You know it's there when you're out at work, on vacation.

To me? Not worth it.

By indoors do you mean your house? Cuz dat weed be stanky bruh

You are unlikely to save money by growing it yourself. Its not easy to grow weed without putting in the years of experience to learn one round might go well and the next doesnt. Your paranoia will go much higher. If anything grow it out around the northern edge of cornfields, pick an early finishing strain, which will likely be a strong indica, and plant like 5 per plot.

You are unlikely to save money growing unless you do it outdoors and use as much of nature as possible to help you..

You would be better off ordering a half pound 2 times a year than an oz.month.

The odds of you getting busted via mail is much lower than all the troubles that WILL arise when you try growing it.

How much weed do you need each year?

Order stuff to your address from amazon that is 'for someone else' instead of your name on box its your brothers/friend/roommate, mother, etc, after you get like 4-5 thing the postman will think someone else lives there.
