There's an atm near me but is an "athena" atm and you need to download their app to scan the coins etc. Is this a trusted wallet and or source to buy btc?

Hey bud I've used one ATM before , I had it sent directly to my blockchain app....the fee was absurd tho it was back when Bitcoin was 560 per and I paid 647 for 1 or something like that.

If you have to download their wallet software, avoid. You should be able to scan whatever address you want. And BTC ATMs have notoriously high fees, sometimes as high as 20%. The more reasonable ones are still at like 8%.
So I went to the ATM, long ass drive and traffic was terrible (into the heart of a major city).
I'm concerned about using these ATMs, with that big ass camera staring me down, and I feel like I would get arrested if I wore a mask in the store (major city is not very nice).
I also noted the value right before I purchased 771.04 USD I paid 842.62 per BTC so a 9.2% fee.
It did make me download their app when I went to purchase with a verification code sent to my phone. Does this seem like a still "secure" way to buy coins?
I hope to the gods someone sees the hole circle left and fills it in with another easy phone app.
