OPSEC Idea
- I guess this would only matter for the really big fish out there, but most laptops can operate without the battery. Remove the battery and they will still run with just the AC charger plugged in. This means that the moment the power source is cut off, the laptop would instantly shut down completely (and hopefully encrypt if you have proper OPSEC)...so why does this really matter?
- The Feds gained full access SR1 because they were able to distract Ross Ulbricbht for just a second and take his laptop while it was still open, running, and unencrypted.
- "The petite, unassuming young Asian woman sitting across from Ross this whole time was, to everyone's surprise, also an FBI agent. Ross lunged for his machine, a hair too late, as she turned like a quarterback for a quick handoff to Kiernan, who appeared out of nowhere--as instructed--to get the laptop. It took less than 10 seconds." (Source: https://www.wired.com/2015/05/silk-road-2/ )
- So you could potentially avoid this nightmare scenario by running your laptop off of AC power only. If someone managed to take your laptop while it was still open, hopefully you could at least grab the charger cord or LE would accidentally unplug it in the act and boom! it's encrypted again. Just some food for thought.
