Vending on Clearnet?

I've seen some folks vending on a site that claims to not store IPs, encourages PGP. Out of curiousity, and assuming this is true, how would vending on such a site be different from vending on the .onions, OPSEC-wise?

For a start, the location of the site can be determined very easily. Reading through the recent Wired article on SR's takedown should show how easy it is for LE to bust a site once they know its physical location.

If that doesn't set off alarm bells, tracking traffic to a site is also child's play on the clearnet. Just accessing a site may not be enough evidence to stand up in court but I wouldn't want to risk testing that theory.

Regardless of whether a site owner says they're not storing IPs, those IPs can be easily gathered by others. Using Tor at least adds some anonymity to your traffic by virtue of encapsulating the packets with the details of the nodes you're being routed through rather than your actual details, and by randomising traffic routes (compromised exit nodes are a slight issue but that's a risk we all take).

I wouldn't trust anyone that says using a clearnet site is safe. They're either incompetent or intentionally dishonest.

So say the vendor uses TOR to access the site. The one I'm thinking of does require Javascript though. I ask because I see people successfully vending (weed, modafinil) long-term on this site, and wonder why it manages to stay up.

Is it possible that the substances being sold are legal in the country the site is based out of? I've bought AAS on the clearnet from people in countries where they are not illegal
