Does international mail get lost often? (normal envelope, not package)

I ordered something from Germany to the US, reliable vendor. Two times prior, it took about a week. This time, it's been a month and counting. Item isn't detectable by dogs, and comes in an envelope. Vendor says that customs has only intercepted two orders out of over 2,000. Is there a chance my envelopes are still out there somewhere in shipping limbo? Do letters just get lost a lot? What do you guys think?

Letters definitely get lost every day, always the chance it can happen to you.. It's just scary when it does happen because these are not lost birthday cards we are talkin' about :P

Not often but the only pack I've ever had disappear was Germany > US.

Just an anecdote.

I've been waiting too...it sounds like maybe it's the same item. But I could be wrong. It'll be 14 days for me friday

If you send to or from Texas, then yes, mail gets lost or sent to the wrong place CONSTANTLY. USPS in Tejas is shit.
