Did I just lose 4000 USD to an Electrum bug?

So 5 days ago I sent 4000 USD to an electrum wallet and every time I restore my wallet, the network is stuck on syncronizing and my balance shows zero funds. There's plenty of confirmations on the blockchain at this point so it should be in my wallet without a doubt. To b honest, I was running Electrum off an older version of tails before the BTC split happened a couple months ago so Im wondering if my coins are stuck in limbo so to speak, and if so is there any way to recover them?

If you are able to export your private keys, then import them into a wallet (like blockchain.info if you want an easy online wallet) and you should have control over your wallet (and hopefully your coins). Online wallets dont have to sync like electrum

So if this helps you that would be great. I had something similar not too long ago and what i ended up doing was going into the server select. Turningn OFF select auto Then connected to just 1 server that i seleted. Then I was able to turn on auto and everything synced up. Good luck

And before anyone asks, Ive already updated to the newest version of Tails, which I assume has the newest version of Electrum. Still shows a balance of zero and network isnt syncing. Please help me!

How long are you giving it to finish synchronizing? I've had it take a while (15-20 minutes) on certain days. Did you try closing and opening Electrum a few times? Sometimes that wakes it up and makes it finish syncing.

if it doesnt synch, how should it display your balance?

calm down at first...and than simply do a search here or at /r/DarkNetMarketsNoobs

this isnt the first time that happens

wish you the best

try a tx accelerator. or Chld pay for parent techniques... not sure if that would work for you spefic situation but it has for me in the past.

Is it showing up as in the wallet on the blockchain? If so it's in there, don't worry.

If it's showing as zero, import into another electrum install.

No it isn't stuck my friend, if you aren't running Electrum-2.9.3 it probably will have the Sync problem. I had the same problem until I updated Electrum and chose a different server.

not sure, but in that 5 days you did lose >$500 in the value of a bitcoin.

Your good. A lot of times it can take A LONG time to resync. Just let it do its thing for an hour or 2, eventually it'll show all your balances. With tails, to avoid this you are usually better off just remaking new wallets every so often, so it has less to restore. I have some old wallets that can take 5+ hours because of how many transactions have to load.

Someone may be able to correct me on this, but I don't think it is possible for a client bug to make you lose coins as long as it doesn't use the wrong destination (which would be a weird bug)

A transaction either happens or it doesn't. There is no real way for a transaction to glitch.

Open Electrum

Go to Tools -> Network

Click "Select Server Automatically"

Close
