How does a vendor go about deciding a return address?

Like I've heard so many suggestions for that and a lot of them contradict themselves; some sayuse a fake address and others say don't (which seems like a bad idea due to raising unnecessary suspicion), some day use your own and others say don't (which seems like a terrible idea since you directly link your home), some day use a trusted friend's (which seems decent except you wouldn't want to do something like that without a friend knowing, but if they know they could be pressured to eat you out to save their own ass), and some day use a business (which seems iffy).

Like wouldn't you want an address that is directly associated with you to have a better network of plausible deniability, but it seems like it could be unsafe for the customer if it was some random address that might be against the mailing of narcotics and they found and reported the mail; I guess the customer could still use plausible deniability or whatever, but there has to be a way that is loosely associated with the vendor to the point the or someone like them would get the parcel if it was returned without it being good enough evidence for a conviction.

What seems to be the tried and true/safest method?

You're getting opsec for. Vendors and users mixed up.

I can tell you, yes, use a real address, not fake. That doesn't mean it's your address

On the DNM bible the rule of thumb is use a real address. Grab a phone book or a yellow pages, and pick one from there. Never reuse them, and avoid using the address of a business as they will likely report the package (if sent back to them) to LE. Best bet, have the return address go to the shady part of town where if a person receives the package, they’ll likely keep it and not tell anyone.

Random local house with its own mailbox and a "business name" that looks like it might be some small ebay or etsy seller, switch it up a couple times a week so nobody catches on. 100% tried and true.

I don't mean any offense by this but if you can't figure this out on your own youre not meant for this game. There are probably 100 posts on this you didnt search. Youre gonna put a lot of customers and your own freedom at risk starting this venture. Honestly just do like the most of us and go to a shitty job you dont like everyday instead of putting yourself at such risk. Again no offense, just lookin out.

here are some thoughts about it https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkNetMarketsNoobs/wiki/bible/vendor/packaging#wiki_return_addresses

When it comes to return addresses, I would advise three simple yet important steps.

  1. Make sure it is a real address. A matching name would be perfect.
  2. Use your best judgement to choose the least likely candidate to call LE in case of a return to sender.
  3. Generate new return addresses as often as possible, moving from one to another rather than alternating several.

A good vendor making a chunk of change will rent out office space and use multiple offices as returns to guarantee less suspicion. A house up for sale or random address is asking to get nailed as a vendor.
