please read! wild shit

so i know this may not be the right place to ask, but i know this community to be quite knowledgeable so i'm here for your guys help. so here's my story. on thursday i was on my way home from martial arts practice, minding my own buisness. all off the sudden, i am boxed in by undercovers and i have 6 guns to the back of my and my mothers head. after being taken to the station i come to figure out someone has used some of my pictures on social media to commit an armed robbery under my name. after being released when the cops realized it couldn't have been me since i was in jiu jitsu from 6-8 and the crime occured around 7, they told me they were keeping my phone. no longer than a week. now this is where my real questions start. what can and can't they go through when they go through my phone? i think they only wanted to see my facebook app but could anything really stop them from snooping further? i'm not concerned about this robbery as it was not me, but i am concerned about them going through my messages or other social media. ive deleted as much incriminating info as possible from my twitter but my texts are right there for them to see. i can't get in trouble for anything drug/drug dealing related as long as i've cleaned house right? the story really isn't important it's just these few questions running in my head. thank you for any help.

Get a lawyer. The police can view everything on your phone.

If you consent to a search then they can look at everything.

You might find something useful here; https://www.eff.org/issues/know-your-rights

For example i just learned you can revoke the consent to search :) go ask for your phone back!

Edit;

After a person has been arrested, the police generally may search the items on her person and in her pockets, as well as anything within her immediate control, automatically and without a warrant. But the Supreme Court has ruled that police cannot search the data on a cell phone under this warrant exception.

and this is useful to know

It typically doesn’t matter whether the police are investigating you, or think there is evidence they want to use against someone else located on your computer. If they have a warrant, if you consent to the search, or they think there is something incriminating on your computer that may be immediately destroyed, the police can search it.

If I were a cop I'd probably look at everything from messages to pictures to website history. Just because I'm nosey. Not saying they will, but they most likely will. Because that's just how humans are even if they are only meant legally to check say, messages for example. But I have no idea, that's just me.

Shoulda lawyered up the second they wanted your phone whether you were party to the crime or not. Obviously you weren't so that's all the more reason to tell the cops to go fuck themselves get a warrant for the phone and then come and get it with the warrant firmly shoved up their asses.

[1 Points] Axaq:

They won't be retrieving messages from your Twitter, anything deleted from that will instantly disappear on your phone so you're good on that front, they may investigate numbers discussing deals though.

As has been said, you're better asking these questions over at /r/legaladvice

This is a BS story.

You were driving with your mother when a bunch of unmarked cop cars boxed you in? In real life a marked squad car would have lit your mother up to pull her car over. If it was a response to an armed robbery, there would have been numerous marked police cars with police wearing uniforms involved, not "undercovers"

How does someone "use some pictures on social media to commit an armed robbery under your name"? What could that possibly mean?

This is a BS story.
