I'll never understand people with "brand loyalty" to marketplaces.

Pretty much sums up how I feel . I don't get it? Besides the diamonds in the rough like Agora that calmly went down & let everyone withdrawl their coins in timely fashion, the usually case is marketplaces run off with everyone's money and big ole' middle finger, with the occasional seizure (which is the exact same thing, just from a different entity).

So what's with this "Blah blah blah use this market and fuck this other one" mentality? Sure some have features that others don't, and some have more vendors, things like that I get. But in my eyes NO market will EVER, ever, have my trust. I send in the exact amount of coins needed, I never hold a balance in my market wallets, I release funds as soon as possible, I act as if (you're welcome) that every market I use is going down tomorrow. I advise everyone to do the same. The veterans that have been around know that it is not wise to place trust & loyalty in something that is almost destined to at some point take your BTC.

Okay. That's all I got for now.

All I have to say in response: sports teams. I feel it's an adequate comparison

There's an important phrase that we use here, and think it's time that you all learned it. Act as if. You understand what that means? Act as if you are the fucking President of this firm. Act as if you got a 9" cock. Okay? Act as if.

The Agora admins returned funds so that people would believe anonymous actors with zero accountability might act "morally" and not in their own private best interest. Those admins then created new markets and exit scammed, capitalizing in on the collective trust the masses had in centralized markets. Luckily, they happened to be preaching to just the kind of people who might be disillusioned with the capitalist, corporate-profit driven society of today -- drug users.

The issue is vendors. Many users don't leave their funds on market and don't have to if they put the funds in escrow immediately (or at least the vendor is supposed to ship the item, and then the funds are rather a question of market/vendor receiving rather than buyer/vendor). Rather than FE-only vendors, we need multi-sig-only (MS-only) vendors. Vendors are the ones who take the risk of exit scams, and the risk comes from escrow purchases - purchases in which the buyer doesn't completely trust the vendor. If the vendor eliminated the need for trust by requiring MS, buyers would be forced to adapt. MS would seem no more onerous than using tor or PGP does now to the initiated

[2 Points] HonkySpaceship:

You think they are actual people? Like customers?

Naw nigguh. Shills. Brand loyalty because they working for the brand.

Good job, you must be a smart cookie. Some people get comfortable way too fast.

[1 Points] ChasingTracers:

I don't think anybody here with a working brain "trusts" a market. A lot of us act exactly as you do. But at some point we have to "trust" one or the other enough to send our coins to it, order, and wait for the order to be shipped. Why wouldn't people make suggestions about which markets to use? Do you know how many markets there actually is? As a newbie its sometimes hard to figure out which one to actually run with. The most recommended are usually the ones that have been around the longest, and are the most responsive. We can't guarantee that any one market with centralized escrow is "trustworthy" but with the ones that are more established we atleast know for the most part they know what they're doing. It's more about choosing the one you're most comfortable taking the risk on, rather than who you trust.

Edit: BMR shut down after giving everyone weeks to withdraw as well

[1 Points] None:

It's because some people think of the markets like Amazon or Newegg, which results in fanboys maybe putting too much trust into any one market. That said, some markets are definitely better than others and it's fine to have a preference (hell I even have a "favorite"). But I have never and would never leave my coins in ANY market for a second longer than I have to, regardless of how great it functions or how much I trust the admins - not even Agora or BMR.

[1 Points] LemonsBasket:

Any vendor with half a brain won't buy into this shit if he wants to make money. You spread out your listings on all markets and give two shits about who represents the market. Any market can go down at any time for any reason. By spreading out your offers, selectively forcing FE and limiting the amount of shipments you have on each market there is very little to lose. You'll get much more sales than just being on one. It's not rocket surgery. It's called not putting all your pineapples in one basement.

People just like to chat shit aka like they know what they're talking about.

[1 Points] DEA-VAN-024:

Well I would rather trust one person with my money than two people. Typically the vendors last longer than the markets. If you're buying from a new vendor then there is some reason to use a market. Research the vendor, and as long as they have a good reputation and time spent vending i'd rather just do direct deals

[1 Points] octomarvel:

Well said.

All I can answer with is "shills gonna shill".

=\

[1 Points] TreyWait:

There are no guarantees, you just make the best decisions you can with the information you've got. Just don't leave your coins in a market wallet.

[1 Points] overlord710:

The more markets the better - they can close a couple but they get remade overnight. It's safe to assume users of DNMs give no fucks

When SR was only option it had a huge target on its back, now we have 3-5 solid markets to shop at not to mention vendors who run their own onion shops

Say DHL got seized and shut down tomorrow, it would take a day or so but this community adapts quickly

[1 Points] organichewn:

This is why I like DHL, you never need to have coins in your wallet. You need something like a $2 bond to be able to make purchases, and that's it. Whenever you buy something, they just tell you "You have to send x BTC to that address", and when it's confirmed the order goes through.

[1 Points] huzibizi:

it's more convenient to just use one

[1 Points] None:

I follow the vendors not markets. I do really really love DHL right now tho.
