Private internet access is legit.

The VPN account I got from CipherCracks. Just seems like more plausible deniability since I don't even own the account.

This might be compromising by opsec, but I work in tech support. Got a call yesterday with a woman terrified that she had been "infected with six VPN's". This post brought me back and made me ggl m8.

There are lots of sites that compare VPNs. Some of them have affiliate links, but they've got legit info.
Personally I use PIA (Private Internet Access). I love it - it's cheap, has a good track record and great support (they also accept Bitcoins). If you're okay with paying a little more, IPredator is run by the folks who ran the Pirate Bay so you know they'll respect your privacy.

Fuck all VPN's and their lies.

horrible idea to have a single "go to" VPN provider since that creates a single point of failure or single point to target.
there are tons of providers, a lot who accept bitcoin - find one and use it but don't trust it.

tor.
if you are worried about your ISP seeing you connecting to tor, use an obfuscation proxy so your tor traffic looks like flash or something.
I am in the camp that believes VPN is bad for security, and you should connect to TOR first before VPNs. I've never heard an intelligent argument as to why a VPN would be better than tor.
neighbours wifi.
