New To Tor - and online anonymity - any thing you wish you had known when you first got into this?

I am decent at using computers. can figure most stuff out on my own - but I am by no means an expert.

This is where I am at right now -

I am running a mac - I saw that i might run into some trouble using tails with my mac. But i also have a virtual machine and everything

after downloading tails - do i have to disconnect from the tor browser before opeing it? or disconnect from the web all together? I am a little confused on that.

Also any other pointers or things you wish you had known when you were in my position would be greatly appreciated

thanks -

Honestly wished I had created new accounts every 3 or 4 months and cycled through them, but like yeah man just keep your opsec taken care of from the beginning and I know you will have some anxiety through the process. But trust man I’ve been doing it for years and didn’t take the same precautions until about a year into my op. And haven’t ran into any trouble

Be careful when updating tor, the feds can/and will virus your tor update.

I wish I knew how easy it was to actually encrypt messages manually instead of using auto encrypt feature.

To run tails, you have to reboot your computer into the BIOS and run from your USB , (actually I'm not sure about how that would work on Mac). Once you open up your Tails setup you can access tor from there.

Separate emails for everything! Get a handy password manager.

set up a reddit account with my new email using tor

Make sure to exclusively use that email account with Reddit. Otherwise if you use the email for other purposes, it starts to create data trails that can be linked and correlated.

One email per purpose; no reuse.

I would suggest to run Tor on a hard drive-less laptop.
