Helix "deanonymization": The Response

Helix does exactly what it says it does, breaks the blockchain taint so a transaction can't be followed through the blockchain. Helix gives you new bitcoins ,from a different pool ,that have never been on the darkweb

What user BlockchainAnalyst has "exposed" to everyone

/u/BlockchainAnalyst was able to find his own transaction by using a very rare transaction value and then looking for that transaction value -2.5% fee and also using helix light. He says since you know the fee and the approximate time you can guess where the original bitcoin came from.

This is only a guess

This is not a new theory

It is pretty well know that if you receive a transaction you can go back through all the older transaction and look for a similar one. Then anyone can claim that the closet transaction that is similar is probably the original sender.

Why did I make Helix light so simple?

When I made helix light I wanted something that was easy to use and did did the job of breaking the blockchhain links. I did that. I wanted to address my concerns I had when using other tumblers. Thinking of these things

Regular helix has all the features that user BlockchainAnalyst is saying helix should have

user BlockchainAnalyst says bitcoinfog and bitblender are better

What am I going to do to fix this "guessing" situation?

I am going to randomize every transaction at a loss to myself

I am sorry for all the users out there that didn't know it was possible to guess about transaction based on weird amounts and knowing the fees and knowing the tumbler a user is using.

I hope this will fix everything for you.
You can as always use regular helix to make it as random as you would like.

I have finished adding the rand amount to every transaction. So everything /u/BlockchainAnalyst said it now irrelevant.

I wasn't that worried but this kind of reply and a fix at a personal loss makes you top notch and I will definitely continue to only use Helix.

[2 Points] None:

glad to know if someone just pointed this out to the admin first off he could have fixed it. Tin foil hats and pitchforks away boys!

[2 Points] None:

Does this mean I have to put my pitchfork and torch away now?

fuck yeah grams!

you guys are doing good work

I nearly lost BTC after I fucked up using Helix light. Sent a message with the blockchain.info link and fair play to them they sent the coins back out. Was totally expecting to be told to fuck off and lose my money (fair play really, it's my mistake)

Grams is good. Thanks guys!

[1 Points] BlockchainAnalyst:

My example was not an awkward number, check any block on blockchain.info and you will see that most of the transactions look like the one in my example.

it only work when using very long amount like he with 0.1216606365

You cant have that many digits after the decimal point in bitcoin, its max 8.

I just made another transaction, just to prove you wrong, here is 1.23 BTC sent to Helix Light, or is this an awkward number too?

This time i will not give the coins to the one who finds the destination though.

And even if a user is still concerned it's easy enough to withdraw to multiple wallets at different times.

Which is what I usually do.

About blockchainanalyst thinking bitblender and bitcoinfog is better: if the mixers are honeypots then they can de-anonimize the transactions anyway but i think its less likely a honeypot would start as just a search engine so if any of them are a honeypot i think its least likely to be grams

Adding a small amount to each transaction isnt going to solve correlation attacks, a set period of time where an investigator was seeing funds move into gram's tumbler (which is trivial to deduce as shown before by researchers doing blockchain analysis) and move out give a very small subset of possible input/outputs to connect, even when the amount is randomized some microscopic amount, which by all means can be filtered out as statistical noise.

In short you arent solving anything by adding a few cents, you need to randomize the timings greatly for all mixes and randomize the fee. Providing a "quick and easy" mixer that only provides some level of doubt is a liability to the community.

I am going to randomize every transaction at a loss to myself

  • I am adding a small random amount to every transaction that goes out from any Helix.
  • It will be implemented within 6 hours

Holy shit, you guys sure know how to do customer service the right way.

I find it very impressive that you went through so much trouble to fix a 'problem' that wasn't a real problem to begin with. That blockchain guessing bullshit could only ever be circumstantial evidence at best.

[0 Points] RosyPalm:

It's not guessing.... It's using simple math to get two puzzle pieces that fit exactly together. That's certainly going to qualify as a reasonable reason to issue warrants, investigate further etc. That you still don't understand this is indeed troubling.

However, I am happy you're at least taking steps to improve the effectiveness of your service.
