Why would a vendor do this?

So I had an order on Alphabay I made on the 25th of January for 50 Grams of MDMA from Germany to USA. I messaged the vendor for tracking on the 5th. He replied and said he checked tracking and it would be there on the 12th. I opened a dispute when the transaction had 1 day till finalization, which is pretty normal on an international order to do. I said I was disputing to keep funds in escrow, Vendor replies that it is understood, and mod replies to update if it doesn't arrive. Now today I log into alpha bay and that 500$ is back in my account. The vendor cancelled the order. It seems he already shipped it, so why would he do it?

I'm going to guess he never sent it.

One time I placed a large international order, and paid for tracking. After a week I messaged the vendor to ask for the tracking # url so I could monitor it. Vendor replied with a privnote that had "asaa" in it. I let them know the note didnt contact a url or a #. They replied with, "oops, let me try it again". The next reply they sent was "Ok. Its "AAA1234567xxx". I was like... wtf. Thats not a tracking #. More like a grandmas yahoo account password. I figure the vendor never paid for a tracking # or flat out never sent the order. At this point I add a mod to the conversation, and continue to try to be polite with the vendor to get real information. Vendor replies that the tracking shows it made it to my country, but that it is no longer updating the tracking info. A week later vendor gives me a full refund.

Wasted time (3 weeks)? sure. I got my coins back in full, so it didnt end badly. But at no point was I ever given real tracking info, and then the vendor just refunds me in full.

In the end, I think... sometimes... a vendor will claim to ship something, and never does, in hoped they never hear a word from the buyer about it and just get free coins. I imagine sometimes noobie DNM users place orders, never get them, and dont know anything about disputing or even how to message a vendor. But in the cases where someone is experienced with using DNMs, continues to communicate with the vendor, and gets a mod involved, the vendor caves and just refunds with no fight.

shrug

He never shipped it and was proley hoping it was autofinalize and when that didn't happen it was going to get refunded most likely... guilty conscience maybe....
