If you haven't already seen the Netflix series Narcos I definitely recommend it. I like how Vice will always do a documentary after a movie or series gets popular. This one is recent and most likely from the popularity of the netflix show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjJNdd891mg
+1000 on this. Narcos is outstanding. I've even started re-watching it. My only real complaint is that they moved really fast this first season. They covered a shitload though and wish they moved slower. I would have loved to see Carlos Lehder's character expanded. He set up a hedonistic paradise on Norman's Cay (the waypoint they used b/w Colombia and the US). Full of naked chicks and unlimited cocaine. He literally hijacked the island, kicked out most of the residents. An old big time weed smuggler had been using it before to smuggle weed, Carlos came in, and this guy started flying for Carlos, but switched to coke, His wife would add a diamond to her necklace for every successful flight her husband made. He ended up getting nabbed and turned UC against Lehder and testified against him. This was a fantastic story and hope they somehow expand on this, maybe in flashbacks.
Lehder would fly in prostitutes to the island and they'd have this orgies that'd last for nights and days. A paradise on earth. He's in a supermax prison now, I think he was the only Colombian drug lord extradited when Colombia signed the treaty w/ the US. He was a hitler loving, john lennon quoting mofo. I think his father was German and mother was Colombian.
I also wish there was more reading material on him. He is an interesting character for sure.
