Laptop battery died and now Tails USB says "missing os" on boot

The title says it. I was using alphabay doing my things when the battery died and the computer suddenly shutdown. I plugged it in and tried to boot from the USB again and now is says "Missing OS" and then continues onto windows.

How can this be resolved? I want my alphabay account back, the weekend is near!!!

You may still be able to recover you persistent partition. Just create another TAILS usb using another pen drive. Boot from it with admin pass. Pulg in your old one, open the Disks tool (or something like that) and select the old usb, then persistent partition (its name should be Tails Data, displaying LUKS, the partitiong format, above the name) and click the lock, type in your admin pass, then your persistent pass, click mount, and then you should be able to recover all the files from there.

Then just migrate that partition to your new TAILS installation (google how, it's easy).

whoa, hold it buddy, opsec fail! lol

  1. it's bad opsec to use a machine with HDD, especially if it's another OS, while using tails.
  2. do a clone by upgrade and that should fix it for you while keeping your persistence in tact.
  3. get a burner laptop and remove the HDD and use that for your dnm activities

You need to do a clone by upgrade. Be sure to back up important files like keepass files and all PRIVATE pgp keys.

Use windows and download tails 2.11 iso.

Get a new USB and install TAILS 2.11 using rufus on windows.

Remove all USB Drives from the machine you boot tails on for DNM use. Plug in USB with 2.11 and Boot with the 2.11 USB, login without persistence, APPLICATIONS > TAILS > TAILS INSTALLER > plug in old usb with your persistence > and UPGRADE BY CLONING. Select old USB as your target and initiate upgrade.

Remove 2.11 USB and boot with the newly upgraded USB. Should have your persistence and info in tact if everything went well
