Getting back into the markets and I have an idea.

Here is what I was thinking. Instead of using my computer with all the proper security precautions what risk would I assume if I bought a used smart phone. Let's say off craigslist and installed tor and did all my purchases for both bit coins and product on there via public Wi-Fi. Like a mall on a super busy Sat. Take the battery out and only replace it when checking order status again only from public Wi-Fi with allot of traffic. Good idea? I want to minimize my risk as much as possible and create no link to my home or computer other than product shipped.

Why not just use TAILS? It doesn't store any data.

PGP is a bitch on a mobile device, so I don't recommend this idea.

No. Mobile devices aren't secure, at all. Take a computer with TAILS to a coffee shop or something.

Takes a sip of coffee like /u/airs23. Tastes slightly clueless.

Smartphones by default are the most insecure devices you can use. Loaded with GPS, multiple radios, and other components, they are relatively bad idea. There are up to about 3 different OS on one smart phone. You only have real control over one of them. Keeping this in mind, that one OS can also have backdoors and be insecure, if your device is not properly set up.

So now that you know all this, here is a possible set up that has the possibility of being secure: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/mission-impossible-hardening-android-security-and-privacy it should be noted that this setup is quite difficult, and not recommended unless you have a lot of customization experience with Android.

Honestly, it isn't worth all the trouble. Buy a cheap netbook lappy, and use TAILS at locations like you mentioned

I mean you could do that, but I can't imagine why you'd want to.

Absolutely horrible idea. Security on phones is terrible. "Full Disk Encryption" doesnt work well even on phones that claim it does. You wont find any PGP program thats decent. Even TOR itself on a phone isnt secure because it runs two OS's, one of which you wont be able to trick into using TOR.

Again, this is an absolutely horrible idea.

If I was you id buy a beater laptop. LIke a 75 dollar windows vista pawn shop machine. You can render all the pages properly, do pgp properly, run etails etc..

Cell phones are generallyfrowned upon for onion access as you dont have the same level of privacy. Even though your on tor my understanding is the phone companies can stillsee more of what your browsing.
