My vendors can't assist with orders because PGP problem [HELP]

As I write this on my phone now, I might as well say here that I broke my laptop two nights ago because the trackpad had a sweetspot you had to hit it decently hard to make it work right and I hit it too hard and fucked my hard drove. The computer contained my PGP keys.

I made 2 orders with 2 different vendors about 2 weeks ago. One small, one bulk order. So far only one of the packs have landed, the small order, but the vendor messed it up and I received half the order so I message him on the computer before it broke. He replied with a PGP'ed message I saw when I got on TOR about 3 days later on my phone. I still have no clue what it says because I can't find a way to retrieve my shit. The bulk order, I messaged the vendor about 3 days after the pack was supposed to land, and again about 2 days after that, and he's only now replied with a god damn PGP message.

I tried explaining to one vendor that I had a issue and couldn't decrypt the message. He replies that he can't be sure someone hasn't hacked my account because I can't use my PGP. Fair enough I say. But I can't get around this at all I don't think.. Making a new PGP key will be a bit suspicious, seen a lot of speculation around vendors changing their PGP keys means that they are LE and shit so I don't see that as an option.

What could I do about this? How can I get my vendors to assist? I currently don't have a computer so I can't create a PGP right now.

And another fucked up thing; I think like 2 days before the laptop broke I looked for a USB in my house to put the PGP/Kleo files on there. Didn't fucking find one.

I have 2 computers with 2 different pgp keys. I always explain that to vendors and then send the pgp key of the computer I am on, and I have never had a problem with them thinking I was compromised. Not to mention, pgp keys expire. Customers almost never give vendors a heads up about this and will just change the pgp key in their profile.

I think you fucked up when you said you were having trouble reading it. It made it seem like you wanted them to send the info in cleartext or you didn't know how to use pgp. I don't blame them for not wanting to encrypt to a new key after such "noob" comments.

But, btw:

I currently don't have a computer so I can't create a PGP right now.

You can do this on a cell phone. Or a website. You're posting to reddit right now so I don't see how you can't get a pgp key.

It's okay OP, here's what you have to do:

  1. Acquire or build a working time machine, (note: the WORKING part is important, don't leave that out!!!!)

  2. Use the machine to travel back in time a few days, to a point when you still had access to your non-backed-up OpenPGP keys,

  3. Back up your fucking OpenPGP keys onto at least one other drive of some kind, and preferably two, with one to be stored off-site.

  4. Murder your past self and dispose of the body perfectly, and then take their place. WARNING - do not actually touch your past self's body directly or this may cause an unpredictable paradox!!!!!!!

  5. When the hard drive crashes again (as they pretty much always do, which hopefully you have learned well by now), simply restore your OpenPGP keys from your backup(s).

It's just that easy!

Note: Hiring a "hitman" on the DNMs is not a recommended tek for disposing of past selves - I have had nothing but bad experiences (scams) when trying to do this.

Am I fucked?

How do you know your hard drive is fucked? What do you see when it boots?

'hit it too hard and fucked my hard drive.' Is not a good sign, for sure. There are companies that specialise in recovering data. They are a last ditch solution and depend on if you trust them to send your hard drive to them, and on the value of your orders as it will likely cost a couple of btc or more. If the hard drive doesn't rattle when you (gently!) shake it, a techie may be able to get access to it plugging into another system (assuming you trust them, or haven't tried this yourself). And if it isn't spinning up (no sound when it first gets power), another last ditch solution is to put it in a freezer for an hour or two and then try again. I've only seen that work once, pretty sure it only works if the motor freezes up, and it could well stop a recovery company getting it to work.

Other than that little advice which you may have tried already, I can see no solution. My sympathies.

Try and explain the situation to the market support desk and see if they will change your key on your profile for you. Then tell the vendor to use the key on your profile to send you messages.
