Parents Home Forfeited for Son's Possession

Apologies if this has been posted but ran across an article where someone was busted with $40 worth of heroin. Charged with distribution and his parents home, with whom he lived, was seized! Sounds like even before a trial!

sounds like the possession charge was just the straw that broke the camel's back and that police had been working on a much bigger overall case for a while for them to be able to seize the house. the kid was probably moving weight out of there and just happened to only get caught with $40 worth.

I know this is an extreme example, but i have been downvoted into oblivion here before when ive said people run the (unlikely)chance of having their parents home seized for ordering drugs to their parents house. Although it is not uncommon at all for them to take your car(or whoever it belongs to) if you get pulled with drugs. There are signs all over the ghetto here saying something like "persons entering this area to purchase drugs are subject to search and seizure of their vehicles", but a lot of people here just think it wont ever happen. The fucked up thing you dont even have to get convicted for them to take it. It might be possible to get it back if you arent but its a huge legal battle. This whole country is just fucked. Im sorry i just loathe LE.

Certain districts in Philadelphia have gone a little overboard in seizures.

The problem is the beneficiaries of these seizures are the very people who decide whether or not to seize. This is a big conflict of interest IMO. If anything, when something is seized, the seizing agency shouldn't be a direct or even indirect beneficiary of what they take. I think this problem isn't universal, its worse in certain states or cities/counties. I read a while back of one county in Florida where they lure buyers and then take whatever the dealers brought - cash, cars, anything of value. I remember reading that one dealer borrowed a car from an unwitting relative to make the trip there and they took the car and took owner months to get the car back.

I debated about posting this in this sub but while this particular case isn't DNM related, I think it still deals with issues that could crop up with DNM stuff.

Which brings me to another point - would a PO Box offer any buffer at all? Would cops still bust down your door for a CD if you sent it to a PO Box? Or some other drop address (business for instance)?

This is known as Civil Asset Forfeiture and it is a huge violation of our constitutional rights. The 4th, 5th and 14th amendments clearly state that people are protected from unreasonable seizures by LE and no person's life liberty or property will be taken with out due process of law. Under CAF, LE can take your property and keep it without even charging you with a crime. This policy is so blatantly unconstitutional yet you rarely hear about these violations, why? Because federal state and local governments made about 5 billion off this scam....one third of DOJs budget comes from this program.

Very interesting story. I don't believe it belongs in this sub. Not dnm related.
