[PSA/Article] If you get arrested, do NOT post about it!

I always assume the "I got busted" posts are fake, but in light of the PurpleLab drama I thought I should post this warning.

DO NOT POST ABOUT YOUR ARREST. If you post any details about the bust, your post WILL be linked to you. If you post a vague, seemingly harmless post a month after your arrest, it WILL still be linked to you. This is particularly bad if you've made incriminating posts in the past (which the cops WILL see), but even a single post in this sub with a throwaway account will still look bad and can still be relevant at times during the judicial process, even if it's not used as evidence to convict you.

If you ever get arrested, (a) say nothing till you have a lawyer and (b) talk to your lawyer before making ANY public statements about your case, even statements you are confident will not be traced back to you.

Finally, I do understand the desire to warn others. If you're truly concerned about that and feel you have to do something, maybe ask someone you trust to post a generic "I heard someone got busted after ordering from X" thread. Sure it will look like FUD, but so will your detail-filled post. There's really not much you can do other than protect yourself.

Be safe!

EDIT: For everyone else, please take a minute to look over your commenting history to decide if you're being too candid. Even with perfect opsec you can still get unlucky, and if that happens there's a chance that any non-tor activity here can be linked to you.

Important question: Are you fucking nuts?

It is extremely valuable to have others in the community know that a vendor has been profiled and people are getting arrested. That is literally your only chance to get a warning about a possible CD coming your way.

Name one case you know of where a post after-the-fact on reddit fucked someone who was already arrested. Please.

[10 Points] CluelessNoodles:

I don't really see the problem, most arrested are not vendors, and I feel only the larger gov. agencies are worried about what is posted on reddit. What DA, prosecutor, or even plain old detective is scrolling through r/darknetmarkets looking for you to talk about that sheet you obviously got busted with? Like seriously, do you even think the feds tasked with policing this subreddit really are going to disturb what they are actually doing to call up a local PD about.. Anything at all?

But... the upvotes.. :(

nice try, fbi

If you use tor and a new throwaway you have nothing to fear.

Yeah great try and get people from posting what's possibly the most important piece if information the members of this sub could have. If you are busted and it was not for some RL mistake but something vendor/postal/opsec issue please post here.

Just use the old SWIM method (someone who isn't me). That has never gotten anyone in trouble.

SWIM got busted at 1:45pm in Nottingham, Arizona. I knew I shouldn't have tried to convert all that meth into sudafed, but my allergies were killing me.

Shut the fuck up who the fuck are you it's not against the rules let people post whatever the fuck they want to and notice how all these posts are usually at the top which means they are the most popular and also help others with warning thank you and have a nice day douche

Fuck this, everyone who gets arrested, please post. It's extremely valuable to the community to find out what happened exactly.
