Time to officially kill off the Silkroad sub Reddit

This:

There's been no good content there just hanger ons that will not let go of the original SR1 concept. Bury it and be done, time to move on.

Sup. I'm the mod there. I'm currently in the process of deciding what to do with the sub.

I asked what people wanted to see happen and people seemed to want to keep it open.

I'm pretty open to ideas.

In my personal opinion, I've been kinda against closing it. I think that having a place to talk about SR is a good thing. I feel like closing it would be worse than leaving it open. Where would people talk about SR?

I know it's shitty. I know. I can't control what gets posted and I can't control the things that the actual SR does. Is it me? Should someone else mod? I try not to interfere much.. let people post what they want and the good things get upvoted, bad things get downvoted. (Obviously I remove the scams and unintelligible stuff) But nowadays there aren't any good posts.

I want what's best for the community. I want people to be able to ask questions and get answers and other opinions. That helps people. And so far, it seems like closing the sub would not help this happen.

But again, I want what's best, and I'm open to ideas. I asked what should happen with the sub in the link above and people said keep it open. So that's what I was working on. I'd love to hear more ideas.

I don't believe that knowledge should be destroyed.

It should remain and be searcheable.

How many vendors have you seen claim to have been on Silk road? If you kill that subreddit you may as well be burning history books. Its probably the largest remaining repository of knowledge on Silk Roads 1 and 2, now that the actual websites and forums have gone.

Get rid of our discussion of it, and our ability to add to this, and you're erasing it from history, as well as our ability to learn from it.

THE SILK ROAD SUBREDDIT ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT BE "KILLED OFF". The "silk Road" model, with the four cornerstones of bitcoin, Tor, escrow and feedback was revolutionary. Silk Road 2.0 was the only site that didn't stick to it, and look what happened.

You see classic TV priograms lost because te tape was erased so it could be reused. If we erase all the contemporary discussions of these two enormous and influential darknet markets, myths and conspiracy theories will grow, and eventually we will have silk road 25. The subreddit remindsd us of the bullshit, records the bitcoin addresses used in the robberies, and one day will be enormously important as a living historical document.

Dont bin it because you're feeling a bit miffed right now. We haven't finished learning that particular lesson. ' The subreddit may even be useful to the defence cases of people who've been arrested.

just leave it be, or we will regret it.

Gotta talk to the mod there... Everyone here has already tried to kill it...

If you don't want to use the sub then don't go to it. It does you no harm. I don't understand why there is such a vocal group calling for it. It almost seems like there's an ulterior motive (I'm not saying there is, I just don't understand why someone would care so much if they don't even use it).

There has been some discussion about what to do with it: https://pay.reddit.com/r/SilkRoad/comments/2mk3dj/what_do_you_want_to_happen_with_this_sub/

It is pretty ugly over there.

Its what clued me into this one and I would imagine its still a good steeping stone for a lot of others like me too

You see the entire ideology of SR1.0 has been unmatched as the leader was an ideologically driven man not the same views as myself nor the same efficiency but this why he succeeded in wherre he didn't make mistakes. Maybe he threaten the life of a few ppl in protection of freedom, but iI cannot say it's something I wouldn't fucking do. I do not think the current administration of DNMs is even nearly as dedicated or as passionately into such a calling for true revolution. I don't recall SR1.0 in the entire 2 years I was on it right near lanch ever having as much sudden shocks as the current generation of DNMs, the only thing was downtime. The forums were actually exciting and engaging I would post quite frequently philosophizing some ideas of mine., i met a few champs who are now personal friends and vendors were a lot more open. I literally met one of my closet friends who was a vendor back in the day. on SR1.0. R.I.P. the revolution

[1 Points] mad87645:

I say leave it. Keeping the SR sub open is like leaving cave paintings on the wall and gives future historians an idea of how we used to live (I can picture them now questioning how we used to live without escrow or why defcon thought it was appropriate to buy a Tesla with his bitcoins. We lived through history folks).

The DNM entire market has shifted so much since SR1 I can forgive the poor stealth skills as it was sooo premature but the product is what i compare what happened to drugs in the 60's when people were selling it to make a honest living and what happened when fucking hoodlums ruined the show. Regulation, Regulation, Regulation is the key. Not libertarianism as the drug market as a whole is very libertarian, the entire ideology of no regulation is asking for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. What you think the ass-holes who have chemical spills and give no fucks about all the ppl they harm want regulation? fuck no. You think the shitty scum dealers like GP want regulation? Fuck no. It's how they get richer.
