Severely delayed addict help post

A few weeks ago, it was suggested that there should be help available to addicts that cannot keep control any longer. In lieu of that, I will be doing an AMA for the next few days.

I am a recovering amphetamine addict. I began using amphetamine two years ago in the form of focalin and the occasional addy, I then upgraded to "parachuting" or bombing strait amphetamine. It did not take long for me to begin snorting it, and for almost 6 months everything was OK.

I then began to have too much free time and too much money, I also had others I was buying for so I had an "excuse" to overbuy. I began to lose control and the speed began to control me. I required it, and I was lost without it. I stopped exercising because I knew my heart couldnt take it, I slept 2-4 hours a day at the most and it began to show.

Details aside, I came to my senses a month ago and decided to put it down for a while. I may put it down forever, but it honestly does help me focus, in the correct dosage.

I would love to answer any questions you guys might have.

Edit: No, I have never done and will never do meth. No judging, but it just isn't for me. Thanks for all the questions!

Edit: hey mods, perhaps we could follow through with a weekly sticky on taking back control? I know its not super on topic, but like I said below, think of it as Preemptive PR and just looking out for people.

Edit: I also forgot to add my occasional use of the OTC benzedrex as a sub.

Did you have a full-time job? How does one have too much money and free time? I go on binges, but it's mostly weekends and whenever I have free time. The only thing keeping me from being in the same type of situation is that I'm always busy and don't have much free time.

This post confuses me. Are you just telling us a story? What questions would I possibly have for you?

Gotta love the.. almost ruined my life/ killed me but it helps me focus, so i might go back to it attitude. Drink a fucking cup of coffee and leave that poison alone.

I don't mean to be rude, but your addiction sounds pretty tame.

why no meth? Hail to the king, baby

Thanks for sharing your story of recovery. Despite my occasional dabbling in certain substances, I can never hate on someone who had a genuine addiction and kicked it. I was addicted to cigs, which is tough to compare to a hard drug, but I struggled through it for my own well being. My sister kicked alcohol and cocaine a year ago and it was a bitch, but she's done great since then and I'm incredibly proud of her. Don't listen to the negative responses you get on here. I'm all for partying and trying different things, but it's important to be self-aware enough that you realize when it starts becoming a problem. Was an ADHD kid on Ritalin, then adderall, stopped through highschool because I hated the feeling of it, and then got back on it in college. Honestly the only thing that got me through, but I'm glad I had that miserable year long experience of a senior thesis to never ever want to abuse the stuff. Believe it or not, if somehow adderall doesn't work for you, you can actually get prescribed methamphetamine pills in certain places. I imagine that's a rarity though. Congrats on your success putting it down once you realized it was an issue and I hope you continue down that path toward a more rewarding life. I can't knock you for potentially needing it for legitimate use for school in the future, but I might suggest if you think you may have a problem with it again, possibly you could find someone you trust and know cares about you to hang onto the pills and dispense you one when needed. Know that's a bitch but it can really help if you're going to have to be on a substance you've had a problem with in the past (example: former benzo addicts needing a benzo to control epilepsy later in life). Wish you the best man. Ignore the hate

Glad you could manage to kick the habit. I know modafinil isn't the same, but have you tried it? I'm looking into it for studying.

How much amphetamine did you use?

Ive been snorting amphetamine powder on weekends for a few years now and although I would like to cut down I don't feel like a full blown addict yet. When did you realise the speed began to control you?

What type of negative side-effects did you experience during your addiction?

There's plenty of other subs for addiction recovery. This one is devoted to scoring drugs online so it kinda seems like the wrong place for this.

vyvanse is becoming more popular than adderall now. it gives you the cognitive boost without the speedy feeling, or so I'm told.

this is the most pointless bullshit on this subreddit today. go on soberrecovery or something. people here use drugs.

any people here have actual habits.
