Why does the United States have a fetish for watching our money?

I'm browsing Localbitcoins to find a way to buy some coin with my debit or credit card. There are countless listings for a variety of online payment gateways/wallets, none of which are supported in the US (seemingly due to US regulations). I know there are better ways, I just can't find any other way to buy bitcoin without leaving the house (I live in the middle of nowhere).

But it got me thinking, what the hell? Why is the US so hellbent on watching our money? Why can't we use any of these sites? It can't be that hard to treat them like Paypal or Google Wallet, can it?

Because when you control the money, you control the people. That's why the feds hate bitcoin so much.

Maybe those sites just dont want to do business in the US?
