I keep seeing this term drop address. Can anyone elaborate?
What's a drop address, how do you get one, and why would you want one?

A location that mail can be sent to, that is under your control, but not your name. Shelf Corp is the best way to do this, I've heard, but Vladtheputin has a good rundown of other options.

Can one just open up a UPS mailbox at a UPS store under their name? Are people successful with this?

I believe it would be a neighbor or someone whom you know very well that you can place an order on, let's say Friday, and since you know they will be at work 9-5 M-F the next week, you can safely stop by and check the mail at 3:30 with plenty of cushion time. Not sure if this is a good example of a "drop address", but that is the scenario I picture when it is mentioned.
Its a address used to receive the stuff. Usually people use friends or sometimes PO boxes.
