April 19, 1775

When Captain Parker awoke on this morning 242 years ago, he rose to rumors that his own countrymen were preparing an attack against him and his militia. He wasn't sure if his fellow countrymen meant the other colonists harm or were conducting military exercises.

He gave his men the following order

Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.

Thus on this day, the first shots were fired by a ragtag group of colonists against the mightiest empire of the time - Battle of Lexington. Colonists tired of being abused and molested by their overlords.

On this day launched the seeds of the mightiest empire history has seen. One bigger than the one it was birthed from. One that has done much good but also has overreached its authority in dealing with its own citizens.

To all the rebels, the misfits, the pirates.

Certainly a more serious use of the culture/ history flair than I am used to seeing around here.

The moral of the story is that even a rebellious past cannot stop you from becoming a merciless cog in the engine of global capitalism.

While the 'shot heard round the world' turned out to be a BS story, the ideas that sprung from it... Lexington IS the birthplace of freedom and the idea is the epitome of what makes america. Hope we get it back soon.
