So I just got a blackmail letter in the mail today from some guy in fucking Slovakia ("one of the main hackers and security researchers at European Cybercrime Centre, working for FBI and Europol") saying basically if I didn't send 500€ worth of bitcoins to this address, LE would come knocking on my door next month. Apparently the deadline for this payment was January 6, but the postage stamp says January 14.
The letter did have my Hydra username on it, but I'm very skeptical about this whole thing. I don't think whoever sent this has the evidence he claims has but either way I've past the deadline so what the fuck, right?
What should I do here? Clean house?
it's fake. throw it away. do you really think LE is gonna believe some random from slovakia when he says so and so at such and such an address bought drugs online? and even if they do, what are they gonna do about it? there's absolutely no legal proof to back up the claim. and if he gives proof, he's basically admitting that either a) he sold you drugs via the internet, b) he's blackmailing you, or the third option (which is my personal favorite) c) both. if anybody gets in trouble here, it's gonna be him. blackmail is a very serious crime and the trouble he can potentially get in is much worse than anything that can ever happen to you. if i were you, i'd nip this in the bud and go file a police report saying somebody's trying to blackmail you. if they have it on file that you came to them as the victim, they'll see you as such if anything ever happens. nothing may ever come of it, but if something does, you'll be prepared.
