Whonix Issues

For some reason my "key management" -Application in my whonix machine deleted all my keys. Since i did no key-back-up cuz of security reasons, i know there is no chance of gaining back any accesses to my dream acc. My question is, has this happened to any other whonix users and is there a way from preventing it to do so again? Thanks for any advise

Yes, by creating backups.... I had this issue with KeyPass on Whonix, but I always made backups so I was good.

I don't use the version of keypass available in the whonix default repos because it isn't compatible with db backups imported from Tails.

Instead I download the KeyPassX 2.0.3 tarball and compile (https://www.keepassx.org/downloads).

Then use the same db both on Whonix/Tails and keep a backup on a Tails USB (which can utilize the same db). Your backup is then inside an encrypted partition but also accessible within Tails which is handy ;)

I should add: KeyPassX db files can be password encrypted (AES 256bit) so you could just copy the db backup file anywhere and it's pretty safe tbh. AES 256 is considered safe in a post quantum computing scenario by the NSA. Someone joked you should backup to the FBI cloud but yeah they wouldn't be able to crack it (assuming reasonable password entropy) so even that wouldn't actually be unsafe...

Not had the exact problem but i like to occasionally clone whonix workstation and whack it on an encrypted hdd. If all fails at least i can reload it and dig shit out of it. Ive had to do that a few times
