First time purchaser advice?

I'll try not to TL;DR this. So I've been dabbling for a little over a year on the deep web. I finally feel comfortable enough to place a first order. It won't be big, just a test run. I plan to use escrow rather than bitcoin for several reasons I won't get into unless you guys convince me otherwise. Like I said it's sort of a test run so I'm half expecting to not receive product unfortunately. Any tips, advice, do's and dont's are greatly appreciated.

You should ask this in /r/darknetmarketnoobs and maybe review the process a bit longer.

I plan to use escrow rather than bitcoin for several reasons

Escrow is a type of payment system, BTC is a currency. Example: you can put currency (BTC) into escrow instead of just sending the money directly to the vendor (FE or DD.)

Not sure what you mean by using escrow but not BTC, you may be confused with the terminology. Unless you do a Direct Deal or Finalize Early, your only option on a marketplace is going to be using a market escrow wallet or possibly multi-sig for the markets that support it. If you mean that you plan on using a currency other than BTC, your options are going to be quite limited as most markets primarily accept BTC save for a few that take Monero (XMR) and even in that case not all vendors accept it universally.

If you use an active and credible vendor, you should have no issue receiving your product. Do some digging on potential vendors by searching this sub for their name and/or by using Grams InfoDesk - the link is on the info bar on the right side --->

not a good time to get started I'm afraid, give it another month at least since you've already waited this long :)

Son, take some time out, and get a good grasp of what you are getting into before you blow the lid off your opsec and get trapped in a fishing net.

Don't.

I'd highly suggest that you hang back and let the dust settle a bit more. Allegations towards markets and shoddy behavior on the part of certain admins has put a lot of people on edge. If you were to order, nothing would likely happen to you, provided you follow good operational security, but I'd personally wait a bit longer. Other than that, I have concerns over your wording in this post. Saying you're planning on using "escrow rather than bitcoin" doesn't really make a lot of sense, since you're using bitcoin regardless of if your transaction is via escrow or multi-sig or whatever else. If your vendor is taking CC or Paypal, run the fuck away. I have a feeling that you may have meant "monero" and just had a faux-pas, but figured I'd needlessly scrutinize your post. If you did mean monero, then yes, use it.

In closing: wait it out and do your due diligence. We ultimately don't know what's safe and what isn't right now. Hell, we thought we were safe before, and all that got us was our asses handed to us by the DNP. Ordering now is just going to add another layer of anxiety and paranoia to your life. Is that dime bag or ten strip really worth your peace of mind?

Why would you consider buying after all the shit that has just happened? Your best bet is to wait for the dust to settle. It's very possible LE hasn't laid out their full hand yet.

If you do plan on actually buying then it's critical that you learn PGP and manually encrypt ALL personal information and most PM's (short one worders don't need encrypted). Also, if you buy coins from anything that has identifying information mix your coins with helix or something (or better yet devise a better custom technique).

Don't order yet, you don't know enough. Escrow is a payment system where the bitcoin is held in an intermediary wallet, and then released to the seller after you receive your package. Not a currency. Also the current situation isn't ideal.

Don't listen to everyone telling you not to. Use TAILS, use PGP, use escrow, use a trusted vendor. You'll be fine. Have fun :)
