Quick privacy question regarding BTC purchases.

I've done this before but with legitimate identification (when purchasing BTC). People talk about purchasing, middle-man wallets, tumbling, but what about the initial chain where you're actually providing real info? Even the minimum legitimate info would have to be card number or bank transfer or even PayPal right? Or am I missing something here?

There are of course ways to purchase bitcoin without providing identifying info, but aside from that I believe tumbling is sufficient to break the link between your point of purchase and your current bitcoins.

Send your coins from the point of purchase to an anonymous wallet. I use Electrum and make sure it can only ever over an anonymous connection (vpn/tor/etc) before creating the wallet and whenever using it. I also use a new address from the wallet each time to receive the coins from the point of purchase.

Coins only ever go from that wallet into a tumbling service. After they are tumbled withdraw them to a second, separate anonymous wallet. Now you have bitcoins with an obfuscated history.
