Do Not Speak With Members of the Media

Some of you, I know, will have come from broken families. You look up to your father when you're young, but if he's a jerk or a deadbeat it's not really until you're older that you'll be able to understand that. Even if he's a jerk, when you're a kid your father is your hero.

I think it's going to be difficult for many of you to accept, in the same way, that Ulbricht was an asshole. He came up with the idea for our community, he built it for us, he enforced it for us, but then he ran his mouth to the authorities and drew too much heat down on us all and the entire system that he had built - that we had built - came crashing down.

Plenty of us had sunk a lot of effort into building our little stores and our client base there, as well as our reputations, etc. Gone, at least partially.

His efforts ended up getting a nontrivial amount of people arrested, some of them mere clerks and couriers. One can't imagine the families of these persons are thrilled with this, and people have been shived for less.

So I'm not writing this to take your hero down a notch, nor am I writing this to take you down a notch, but there's something that all of us need to be reminded of:

This is a private community.

We don't want to be the inspiration for the next big movie. We don't want casual references to the Darknet to appear in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. We don't want to do interviews with reporters from the Huffington Post. We don't want our little community documented on the front page of a newspaper. Deepdotweb is probably fine for our humble needs.

We are casual drug users. We are educated drug users.

We don't want children here, we don't want drug addicts here, we don't want crazy people here. We don't want to sell guns. We don't want to sell fentonyl.

I'm not trying to tell you what you are allowed and not allowed to sell on your favorite marketplace. Plenty of healthy debate is already being had on that very subject.

Don't bring new people in. Let them wander in. Usher the fools away, be polite but discouraging. Help them and teach them, perhaps, where they show promise.

This is not a revolution. We aren't changing the world for the better. Few of us are mobsters, visionaries or revolutionaries.

We aren't cool, hip, mysterious or interesting. We're boring people who order small amounts of drugs for traditional shamanic religious sacraments, or for quiet personal reasons.

Remember -

This is a harm reduction community We don't want to deal with children Drugs are illegal, we're not advocating drugs we're a small private community of educated users

Please be careful, friends, as I've watched cooler communities than this get ruined when too many idiots are let in. Most of all, we don't want to make the news because that will invite everyone's attention on us.

[121 Points] al_eberia:

All that stuff has already happened, darknet markets are already well known to everyone that you would want to hide them from (global law enforcement). Now that you've shown up and struggled over the learning curve you are appalled at all these idiots who are right behind you and want to pull up the drawbridge behind you and lock everyone else out. As someone who's been in since SR1, the sekrit club mentality has never worked and only makes things more difficult. Get over it, we are going mainstream.

[102 Points] Polygon_Windows:

This is far from a secret club, i went to a festival last summer quite well known in my country for drugs and almost everyone i spoke to was buying online. At my university I make almost half as much from selling drugs than I did 2/3 years ago because everyone knows someone who can get them 'deep web shit' now and people ask for that almost exclusively. we arent just casual drugs users, we are computer literate casual drug users, thats what seperates us from the rest who certainly already know what the 'deep web' is, and as these sites get safer and easier to use more people are going to starting hopping on board, and thats progress and we cant do anything to stop it.

[24 Points] None:

That's all well and good but the fucking Coen Brothers are writing a movie on the DNMs and it's for FOX. It's almost certainly going to be a demonization of how evil the online drugs trade is, sure it'll push more people on here but it will put a fuck load of pressure on LE to take us down. If we remain an "underground community", which by the way is completely untrue marketplaces are earning upwards of $20million a year, that isn't underground. But if we remain closed that will make it easier for the entire community to be shut down.

The only possibly way to combat the negative press will be to fight fire with fire. Sure FOX will want to make the DNMs look like shit but an indie company like A24 or even a liberal mainstream company will want to combat that world view. If somebody like that comes along, I say take the fucking chance-- tell them how civilised this place is, how awesome the vendors are and how it is all about harm reduction. This is a community and we aren't hiding anything under the rug, be proud of what we have! You say we're not revolutionaries but I disagree, we're all unwittingly involved in this huge revolution. The DNMs are conclusive proof that the drugs trade doesn't need to involve murder or gang violence, it's just a simple transaction, the only reason violence stems from it is due to criminalisation. This is a revolution whether you like it or not.

Truth is, like the street drugs trade, to survive this needs to thrive. In two/three years it'll be the most popular and easiest way to get drugs. That puts everybody in danger unless expansion happens.

[21 Points] shlgn:

Sorry, I just don't agree.

This concept is the future of drugs, don't see why you think you are more entitled to it than everyone else.

[17 Points] joeyaa:

You shouldn't speak on behalf of what the views are of the people in this group. Plenty of people here do want allow guns or fent. Many don't mind the attention and potential drawbacks because, frankly, the laws are really unethical and should change. The potential to fight for that cause is worth it to the people that are talking about it.

[18 Points] g0_west:

You're a few years too late here.

[14 Points] maxturbator:

While I agree that, for your own personal OPSEC reasons, you shouldn't speak to the media, there is no stopping this from becoming mainstream. Subversion breeds familiarity. The "underground" has a natural push towards popular consumption. Everyone wants to be "hip".

[12 Points] shur4t0:

I literally wandered here today. I got in the darkweb a few months ago just out of curiosity and ended up getting stuff from AlphaBay, but only today I decided to search "duckduckgo" for clearnet reviews of a vendor and discovered this.

Long story short I am so glad and grateful for the mere fact that this community is so organized, this post made me feel that way.

Thank you for looking after ourselves, and teaching us how to take care of others.

[10 Points] sapiophile:

I personally have a different perspective. I want everyone on DNMs. And not just for drugs. I want my aunt to do her Christmas shopping on AlphaBay, my roommate to have to launder their rent money after withdrawing it from LBC. I want freedom for all people, and I want absolutely zero fucking revenue for any governments to be taxed out along the way, so they are no longer able to shoot white phosphorus at children, or stockpile nuclear warheads, or pay the salaries of 'roid-raging bullies who murder black men in their own neighborhoods. I want that evil to wither away, quietly, starved and abandoned.

I'm like Ross in that sense, I guess, except I also want to abolish capitalism and all private property and even currency in general - but maybe I digress. For now, I'm happy just making the world a little bit more free, as much as I'm able, and to me, getting more people on board is a big part of that. That's why I try to help out here and on /r/DarkNetMarketsNoobs and so on. I'll see you peeps in the future.

[9 Points] captain_obvious_here:

Not sure why your post only appears here today...you posted that 5 years ago, didn't you ?

[7 Points] lovable1:

You say dnm is a harm reduction community, but the you also don't want people to know about it? That kind of defeats the purpose of harm reduction doesn't it?

[6 Points] None:

[deleted]

What is this?

[6 Points] iOSvista:

I mean, just because you don't want something doesnt mean it won't happen. And as far as drug addicts on the darkweb, it's a lot safer for the addicts, dealers and communities to make purchases online rather than on the street.

[6 Points] pinochetHA:

No. Let's talk with the press. Let's do every single interview we possibly can. OP I am interested to know who you think will be talking about the darknet markets if we aren't? Someone has to talk about them because the newspapers and the public are interested. And if that someone isn't us them we may not like what they have to say.

The public is going to be exposed to either one of two perspectives about the darknet markets. Either they will read our side of the story; free trade, free speech, safer substance use and creative economics. Or they will read what the cops and government think about the darknet markets; child porn, dirty criminals, evil drug users.

I think it is our interest to make sure we are talking and give the public at least a chance to hear things from our perspective. This stuff actually matters because public opinion impacts on police budgets and objectives. I don't think we should allow our adversaries to enjoy a monopoly of public opinion.

There has never been any good arguments for keeping the darknet markets "our little secret". Ever. This post reeks of irrational fear, elitism and self-interest. BBMC's thoughts on this are spot on. Now that you've joined the party you want to close the doors so no one else can. Of course it's just a coincidence that as soon you arrived the darknet markets reached their perfect size. You want us to go private. No thanks.

Speak for yourself, please. Also, you spelled fentanyl wrong.

[3 Points] Vendor_BBMC:

This is a PUBLIC community discussing the most-open, unrestricted, uncensored trading platforms the world has ever known. Don't try to censor US or keep us secret.

That's what our governments and police want, and this incestuous, inward-looking subreddit seems to want to help them through some selfish, misguided reasoning.

"Things were perfect the day I discovered SilkRoad via the media. Everybody after me is too stupid for some reason, and will blow it for all of us. They will buy all the drugs and put prices up".

"The cops don't know about us. Or if they do, they're not really trying very hard. If the media talks about us they will actually TRY to bust us"

DNMs are to drugs what the MP3 is to music. SilkRoad was just the napster.

When Napster got busted, it was too late. Nobody who used it was ever going back to a record store to buy music on a CD again.

If SilkRoad was the Napster of DNMs, why are 98.5% of people still buying their drugs on the street? The equivalent of shopping at Our Price and HMV.

A vendor is just a salesman. So SELL. Don't stand next to a canal bridge in Amsterdam whispering "Cocaine" to tourists. Its like darknet marketplaces haven't intruded on your outdated 20th century mindset at all. You're a pussywhipped coward who's scared of the man.

The marketplace is moribund. In the doldrums. There aren't enough customers for most vendors to make a living without ripping them off. the choice of markets is very poor. And the people who MAKE the drugs should be here, selling them uncut to us, without a hundred middle men stepping on them.

But they aren't. Why do you think that is?

Anybody who's bought drugs online using bitcoin never looks back. That's why it will win, totally, and dominate in the future. Only heroin addicts will use dealers, because they sold their laptop for smack.

If something is inevitable, and its a good thing, it's called "progress". History has a tendency to condemn people who stand in the way of progress.

You want to keep everything tiny and shit, and the darknet completely dark. But it stinks in here because somebody needs to open a window and let the sun shine in. Every cop in the world knows about the darknet. They're the sharks and lions. We're the outnumbered mackerel and wildebeest.

We need to shoal and herd to stay safe, not limp around on our own, scared.

[2 Points] RIP_Meth_9000:

we're a small private community of educated users...

100% Wrong!!!!! And here is the proof. You need to realize this super secret club of a small group of DNM users is over!!!! Wake up & realize the FUTURE is here & it is not going to stop because you want to feel warm & fuzzy!!!!

We don't want children here, we don't want drug addicts here...

Both are here, in this very sub every damn day. And not even I can put a stop to that, wish I could. We agree on this & the fentanyl.

We don't want to be the inspiration for the next big movie...

Freaking PAY 9000!!!!!! Enough said ;-)

We aren't cool, hip, mysterious or interesting....

Speak for yourself!!!! I am a very social person. I have shown people how to do this. Knowledge is power & every people I show how to do this takes a little more power from the government!!!! This is war & our sides needs all the soldiers we can recruit!!!!

FYI....The SECRET is out....Get OVER it!!!!!

BTW...I have already helped a couple of fine folks from the UK write papers for college. I see nothing wrong with it. They are going to do it & they might as well have the RIGHT info!!! We have all seen the SHIT articles, we make fun of them in here every damn day!!!!!

[2 Points] MDMAtrebuchet:

Here since SR1 & still reminiscing someguy919's MXE for a first purchase.

Quite nostalgic, but the community here as changed drastically since the beginning of this subreddit when SR1 was seized.

After college town a couple years ago, DNM's was the talk in my friend group "in the know" since they fronted me the cash to order packs - once they realized it worked.

Next thing you know, in the coke/mdma game the extra product goes to street sales (in my Cocaine & MDMA game, clients are always trying to cop a $20 small session / $40 0.5 bag to a $90-$100+ or $70-$100+ respective. always uncut. I disregard any mention of DNM's and come up with the best bullshit story to avoid the question.

Got out of the game for a while, setting new strict rules for vouching/clientele that runs smoothly, and I keep them updated per pack to make my minmum $150 service fee per order.

tl;dr it's not a secret among tech-savy 20 something or 30+ Odds are that incomers are the low fruit hanging fruit.

[2 Points] business2690:

There are no cooler communities than this: a subreddit about DNMs.

[1 Points] agentgreasy:

We establish none of our wisdom through the hoarded guarding of knowledge.

I can't truly disagree with the sentiment, but I do disagree with its usefulness and application. You have the very problem within your post, but I don't think you really see it.

We are all of those people. We are everyone. We are the barista, the admin, the engineer, the teacher, the mother, the father, the student. We find ourselves in every aspect of society. We are the mayor, we are the senator. We are everywhere, fractured and alone, hiding away in our hobbit hole waiting for the scary part to go away. This policy contradicts itself.

Apologies for the Morpheus like tone here but..

Consider, in the last 10 years we have made more progress than in the last 30. What we know, is starting to finally find its way into society. Questions are being asked, and the truth is being revealed. Some of these problems are not new - some are thousands of years old. Yes, thousands. This isn't a revolution, you're right - this is survival. It's always been survival. Up until the last decade, that survival has been a mixture of gutters and 6x6 cells.

The SR1 situation is a contentious one because of the nature of what and who we are. Many of us sit in what can only be called a bipolar state of confusion - do we hate him for being deceptive and indicating to us in some manner that all those years he was doing what we spent so much time perfecting? Or, do we take what we know and what we apply and judge the situation for its merits alone?

The history of that situation has been long discussed, and ultimately you may want to read up on it a bit. If we are to take everything in the chain of events properly, the truth is it wasn't Ullbricht but an earlier link in the chain. However, it only serves to show the truth: we are only as strong as our weakest link. We weaken those links by resorting to greed and hoarding. We erode at the base of what we believe in by seeking to achieve a life in the shadows, and we support the position of those who would seek to maintain their extremely profitable location.

We know things. We are aware of things. We have learned, studied, examined, experimented. These things are important, but we do no favor by continuing to bolster the position that disproves these discoveries simply by case of "not enough information" and "theres a lack of refuting information to prove us differently." The only reason that is the case is because we've spent so much time making that true: all they have to study is the very conditions that make their position true!

Hiding isn't the answer. If harm reduction is truly your aim, you should note that it is those with the widest embrace and farthest desire to reach all - as much as the individual who goes out of their way to reach just one - who embodies that truth.

[1 Points] obviouslyaman:

"we're not advocating drugs"

Speak for yourself. I want to see drugs be decriminalized, just as cannabis is slowly being decriminalized in the U.S. The only way I can see to do that is to reach out to people who aren't already convinced. And one way to do that is via the media.

It's not like we have a choice anyway. Journalists are going to write stories about darknet markets whether we want them to or not. Who would you rather represent us? Reasonable, responsible users? Or the crazy dumbasses that they'll interview if no one else is willing?

[1 Points] retroracer:

You're fucking delusional and out of touch if you think DNMs haven't made then jump into the mainstream.

[1 Points] None:

I feel like if the media were to read AND UNDERSTAND (lord knows they have issues with that) a post to know exactly what DNM subreddit is about, it's this post.

It seems DNM wants to uphold the ideals of Laissez-Faire capitalism, where the people themselves are the check and balance to the system. Shitty vendor? Name and shame. Low price and highest purity, with good reviews? Sold.

It's because of forums like these that people get what they want, are scammed less, save money, and most importantly, save lives. It's simply invaluable.

Thank you for writing this. Finally somebody talking with some sense around here. This sub is going so down hill lately with all of the new people coming in acting like wanna be gangsters and bragging to everybody about everything they're doing. It's so annoying I barely come on here anymore. It's also becoming a huge circlejerk. A lot of people here think dmn's are gonna bring about a huge revolution and change everything, but they're living in a fantasy land if they think that. Dnm's is merely a place to buy and sell drugs nothing more. It's not gonna make governments decide to change the laws, it's not gonna end the war on drugs, it's not gonna make the whole world switch to btc. And whenever you tell people that around here they get offended and don't want to believe the real truth. The only way things are going to change is if the politicians decide to change them. If you want to make a difference in those things, get into politics. Buying and selling drugs on dnm's isn't gonna change shit.

[-1 Points] gh0stpanther:

Great post.,Interesting and cool to read here.

Just thinking tonight- it's easy to just resent law enforcement as denying freedom. Sometimes do, then feel scared shitless about prison... but like everything in life there is another side of the coin.

Western Civ 101. Paradox is that DOJ (let's leave out the DEA lol) (US here) actually is the principle safeguard of our freedom and individual liberty. Paradox is that only by enforcing the rule of law that the people are protected from collapsing into tyranny or total fascism, when one corrupt ruler takes over and enslaves the nation. We saw what happened in Europe pre-WWii. That scared the fuck out of the world. North Korea, Saudi Arabia.

The rule of law is the principle that no one is exempt from the law, even those who are in a position of power. The people democratically decide on the laws and so on, The system isn't perfect and laws need to change but they evolve.

So Yeah OP is right.,When fringe groups openly breaking the law make it known and essentially flaunt their criminal activities, this just burns the engine for law enforcement to shut you down and a handful will self sacrifice and pay the price. Clive bundy just like those crazy Mormon perverts got a host of passes for acting like nuts until they got too loud. The Bolsheviks stayed underground in the factory cell. Anonymous had a little play day until Federal prosecutors swooped the most brazen up. Squash the mob the crowd backs off.

Read through Ross' journal a little, posted on bitcointalk. He got demonized by federal prosecutors and the media to justify their heavy hand. He was sweet. He was stoned out of his mind and ridiculously naive like living in a video game. Like the Nutty Professor, bordering on genius but a goddamn fool with No common sense. Anonymous and a whole history of groups trying for social movements.

The darknet makes no separation between libertarian use and links to a supply chain of international criminal enterprise. A lot of drugs completely ruin entire communities. Plenty of darknet users are addicts and the most vulnerable ones lives are ravaged. Heroin ?

Tl:Dr Being on the front page of the internet - "OPSEC": 0/10 lol
