[CommunityDiscussion] Agora forums back up, comments from site admin

Forums are back up. Always a good sign! EDIT: Update from Agora admin! http://lacbzxobeprssrfx.onion/index.php/topic,62254.msg11135370.html

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 We have been working on restoring the service and now came at least to a point where we can work out a time estimate. We are relatively certain that we will be able to restore the functionality by the end of 19th April, UTC time. Sorry for this prolonged downtime, we know that it has inconvenienced many of you. Such problems are mostly caused by the amount of security that we have, which unfortunately has some drawbacks in the times when some elements of the system fail. We have always placed more priority on the security and safety, above for example speed and availability, and this focus is not going to change, even if we know that some of our users do get inconvenienced by it during times like these. We can at least assure you that the balances and funds are safe and you shall be able to use/withdraw them once the site goes back online.

its good news even if its gonna be a boring weekend

Whoever the unnamed person or people behind Agora are, they are heroes of the darknet. I hope we never find out who they are, but I salute them, for they still believe in what's behind the door.

They had to double in size when SR2 went the final time, and then again when Evolution went

I don't think that Agora will ever do the dirty on us. Ive communicated with the person running it quite a lot wen he was an admin at bitcoinfog, and then when I first listed on Agora.

I have a personal assurance that Agora will never rob BBMC, no other site owner has given that assurance. I believe him.

If Agora did an exit scam, I would take it much more personally than usual, and I think the other senior BTVA vendors would feel the same.

For some reason, whenever Agora is down it never enters my mind that it won't come back. Sometimes a lack of info when the site is down is irritating, but I quite like that Agora is Johnny Tightlips rather than a "we will prevail, shipmates"-type.

It seems like its set up for the long-term. But to last long-term, there are a few changes I would suggest:-

Nobody can work 7 days a week forever. Especially doing something illegal, stressful and technical, which is now the most high-profile of the markets.

There is no post on Sunday. I don't login from Saturday lunchtime until Monday lunchtime, so I suggest that AGORA SHOULD SHUTDOWN EVERY SUNDAY FOR MAINTENANCE whether its needed or not. Its owner can take a cup of coffee into his back garden, watch the goldfish in his pond, and feel the sun on his skin.

Its no use being a millionaire if you can't get a day off to shop. Personally, I think a lot of marketplace owners go insane through "TOR fatigue" and rob us just to get a day off. They can't see any other way out.

I think 6 days uptime out of 7 is more trustworthy than 99%. The Silk Road Model hasn't reached maturity. Only reasonable working hours will allow this.

My first 6 months as a darknet vendor aged me 10 years. The next year didn't really stress me.

Vendors and marketplaces seem to hit a wall at 4 months. Most don't make it past this long trading.

When Agora is stable, we will push for automated vendor withdrawals, and/or replacement of vendor's onsite wallets with offsite ones we can specify ourselves. We're not bothered about multisig escrow.

If escrow is released into another wallet owned by the marketplace owner, he can prevent withdrawals and take the escrow from THAT wallet instead, like Sheep and Evil.

I never once have even fathomed agora pulling an exit scam. This happens so much.

When agora does decide to go I bet they are as honorable as Backopy and BMR and let everyone withdraw. Hell whose to say backopy isn't running agora now and thats why they never speak.

Couple words from me at my very first post. I was reading feedback regarding the Agora issues and I have to say was very disappointed by majority of your comments. Yes, I was also about to lose some money, but what really went true my head: please tell me not another piece of garbage human being. How they are not developing some sort of attachment towards everyone that was only good to them. I have a feeling of a huge disappointment, not case of my funds, but thinking how all this come to the end. How many time we have to get fuc#k up to keep going (owners of other sites remember this can all end if you decide to become egocentric, narcissistic and greedy asshole). There are so many great Vendors I developed a great respect and relationship, there were right next thing on my mind!! I even created grams user account to see if I might find some of them to send them money, even I lost it too. To all you shady Vendors that asked me to release my funds! Seriously, do you think I am that naïve and stupid. You are just a horrible business person, because your lost is a way more than those couple bitcoins, clearly you are not a caliber to figure that one out! I do business only with people I can trust and stay loyal, so when you asked me to release funds I just want to see what are you made off!!But nothing compare what those Vendors lost, some of them probably roof under their head. I don't sit on money, but I have a values that been strictly followed all my life, even so most of the time they didn't serve me well. For God Sake do we all have at least some sort of attachment and ritual that is not all about Benjamin’s??? I have a strong passion for a good buds’, no question!! I have many days that I felt depressed, and your comments the most definitely made my day so many times, so I love you for that!!!. I love to read your reviews, some crazy shit here too, and I was trying to maintain a positive attitude last couple day, but your negativity and anger, expressed in a writing form were putting me right back on the ground. However, I would come, every each hour read your comments which made me feel even more sad and depressed: thinking this is all going to end soon. I don't want to make you think I wasn't also upset about money, unfortunately Benjamin’s are not growing on the tree, so I have to earn every penny!!! Our community means so much more than I can possibly put the dollar value on it!! Let's start to have a little more faith, before we are ready to throw stones and write each other off!! Shall We!!!

Agora is doing it right, if you can't handle a couple days of downtime well then... go to nucleution and pray that shit doesn't hit the fan, hahaha AG THE BEST

[1 Points] MXE-VENDOR:

They obviously do this for OPSEC reasons, but does anyone think they ever do this so they can get caught up with their work load? Like answering disputes and customer service type stuff, ect.... I am guessing it is only a few man team running one of the largest and longest running DN's after SR1.

[1 Points] SecondChanceUsername:

Noobs can bitch about downtime all they want. And yeah it is inconvenient and when users happen to have JUST placed an order orJUST shipped one then the site is down for days/weeks, it is really nerve racking (considering our past as DN users). Unexplained & unplanned and prolonged downtime is very scary when you have money in escrow, or just placed an order with a vendor who may or may not have relied the drop info and coin.

Overall, Agora, people will be thankful for your clearer head prevailing. Security is obviously more important than uptime as long as its legitmiate. But unfortunately users have little to no faith in admins. Agora is still trustworthy, but that dreaded day where MP seizure/scamming is what keeps people itching about unexplained downtime etc.

My 420 is still fucking ruined. So bummed.

Excellent, now fork over my LSD and weed, been waiting a week for it.

[0 Points] floatinghart:

I never used a DNM but you should consider your coins lost once you sent them to your DNM wallet. Also when you find yourself able to place a DNM order assume that you just bought from LE or scammer. Either way your coins are lost. Make sure you have a drop that won't ever put you in jail. These days they hammer hard on buyers even for small amounts so be safe and have a drop that isn't linked to you (a friend) or play the plausible deniability game (if you can afford a lawyer). So when your order actually arrives you find yourself happy instead of disappointed when it don't. Also it's better to order big once a year instead of small every month. (EDIT: A friend who helps you out, not meaning fucking someone. Please be a good human and do not fuck people by posting shit to their address!)
