Hey guys,
There's a startup called swapbox and they have these mailing locations. They put mailboxes into regular stores -- it's just like amazon lockers, but you can ship anything to them... not just amazon products.
They don't require ID to register/receive a package. They just need an email address.
Has anyone tried it out? Is it safe? It seems too good to be true.
Wow that is really interesting. It seems like it would work - they accept any kind of shipment, including USPS. Their ToS says you won't order anything illegal (of course), but it looks like you don't have to have any kind of ID or real name.
Here are a couple of downsides I can see:
You (a person) are not receiving the package. They are receiving it and giving it to you. I think that means they can open it without a warrant or authorization since it is technically shipped to them.
Since you have to have it shipped to your special address, it is probably a lot harder to claim you didn't order it. You are in a perfect place for a CD if something else about the package tips them off.
