Members of the Evanston Police Department's special operations group along with a United States Postal Interdiction Team conducted a controlled delivery of suspeted narcotics around 1 p.m. on Friday in the 1800 block of Sherman Ave.
After taking possession of the package, Michael H. Perrine, 39, was taken into custody and transported to the Evanston Police Department for further investigation. Evanston police detectives obtained and executed a search warrant on the package which revealed approximately 6,500 grams of suspect cannabis inside.
Perrine is charged with one count of Possession of Cannabis over 5000 grams, a Class 1 Felony.
That's about 14.25 lb's of marijuana. Too bad they don't say how it was detected. Postal interdiction team? After a quick search, I see that the US Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) has a "Package Interdiction Team" that seems to be part of the "Chicago High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA)" task force.
Seriously, 14lb? Once you're moving that kind of weight wouldn't you rather just spend the day or two driving wherever to pick this shit up? Driving my Prius loaded with 100 lbs of pot has to be orders of magniture safer than getting ten of these packages...
Assuming this is like most postal drug shipments and the two people know each other rather than a DNM buy, of course.
