I got a love letter (via a friend's address) from US Customs and Border Protection. The standard advice around here seems to be to just completely ignore it and not worry about it too much. However the letter says that you must reply even if you choose to abandon the property. But it also says one of your options is to "Take No Action" which apparently defaults to abandonment after 30 days. Kinda confusing. Also, my friend is really freaked out by it, so I would like to choose whichever option results in no further mailings (if possible).
TL;DR: Can anyone remember if they got any follow-up letters after either ignoring or replying to a US CBP Notice of Seizure? Or any other consequences? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: Thanks for the replies everyone. I was able to convince my friend to destroy the letter. And for anyone who may have the same question: I read several legal advice webpages and the lawyers there all agree that nothing good can come from replying. You're basically exercising your fifth amendment rights by ignoring it. So don't be fooled by the "must" wording, you have the right to remain silent. ^.....^
What love letter?.... 😎😎
