"Let's Encrypt" (EFF) - Public Beta to be Available Dec. 8

https://letsencrypt.org/2014/11/18/announcing-lets-encrypt.html

becoming available dec 8: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/let-s-encrypt-public-beta-december,30566.html

Hadn't seen any mention of this, and not sure if this would be at all applicable to onion sites, but I thought I might bring it up and see if anyone knows anything more about it.

Would be interesting if this could be used to get certificates for SSL/TLS onto the DarkNet.

Isn't pretty much everything going through SSL/TLS at this point?

SSL is not needed with Tor, as onion URLs allow you to visually verify the authenticity of a website and all communication is encrypted with the HS's key. Also, due to the anonymous nature of Tor, it would be difficult to verify that someone is indeed who they say they are. Consider someone trying to get a certificate for their Agora clone.

Edit: /s/dark web/Tor
