After a few cash deposits at a previous branch I decided I should switch up banks as well as different bank branches. I chose chase bank. I go in and begin filling out the slip for a cash deposit while the only teller finishes with the customer in front of me. Copying the info down I finish the slip and ready for my wallet so I can have my ID ready to go. It gets caught on the way out resulting in a single player game of hacky sack that ends with a loud slap, as I Djokovic that worn piece of leather against the wall in a failed catch attempt. A little embarrassed I walk up to the teller who is now "free to help whoever is next", and try to laugh it off with her. My laugh is returned with a steely eyed look that reminded of David Caruso for some reason. I slowly slide the slip of paper towards her and begin taking out the cash and my ID while she enters the information in the computer with annoyingly loud clacks of the keys. Upon seeing the out of state and non personal business account her demeanor changes from almost nervous to immediately suspicious. "Do you know these people? Why is your boss sending you to deposit all this cash?" Not unsurprised I feel the urge to immediately get defensive at her questioning and slightly condescending tone before taking the extra second to gain composure. "I'm paying someone for some web development work they'd finished up for me, this is their preferred method of receiving payment. "I guess being the owner of the business was reason enough for the boss man to trust me with his money to answer your other question. Now may I please have my receipt?)... Okay so I didn't say that part but, could you imagine if I had? She looks at me and back at her computer then finally asks for my ID and announced she needs to "mark me as a runner...." We voice trails off and she finishes the rest of the transaction fairly wordless. I didn't really hear what she had said until I was already out of the bank and back in the car.
Tl;Dr Made cash deposit at a different bank and was told I was being "marked as a runner" by the teller.
What could this mean? I have received packs since without problems and have more incoming. Anyone else have similar experiences?
A "Runner" is an employee who regularly makes cash deposits for a business. For example, the manager of a gas station depositing money into a business account at the end of each business day. It's to designate that you'll be regularly making large deposits into an account that you don't have ownership of.
