attach your tails usb to a bracelet/lanyard to pull it out if LE grabs your comp(mainly for market operators/big vendors

Was just stoned/brainstorming.. and if I was a market operator, I would have my tails usb attached to one of those safety bracelets that people wear jetskiing/snowmobiling..

That way if LE ever did try to grab my laptop in mid use.. it would rip it out/ wipe everything.

Ross wouldn't be in jail right now if he was wearing one.. right?

Fuck that.

Don't cut corners. I only launch tails while I am on my jet ski.

Try this: Boot tails .. browse the web.. now take out the usb.

See the problem? tails is still running, there is enough information in the RAM that can be extracted. The only good thing about tails is that it wipes the RAM during shutdown, but I think that must be a normal shutdown...

One of our vendors sell these though - http://kukuruku.co/hub/diy/usb-killer - and you can make one yourself, looks promising.

In general there are many better ways of staying safe...If you are a heavy vendor have a small laptop with full disk encryption (lvm), make sure the key and /boot is usb based - no one will crack your 1gb randomly generated key, and you can snap it or flush it if there is a problem - so you can't even give it up in case of pressure. Worse case this key file on the usb can also be encrypted with a strong password and pgp and that can be decrypted during boot - thus you will have to enter a password to decrypt a 1gb file which is the key to decrypting your entire system. This can be taken even further to make the laptop look as if it is "broken", and have the LVM disk headers also on the USB stick... but I might be going a bit too far (for the average technophobe) now :)

And since this is linux we (I?) am talking about, you can always set a hotkey to instantly shutdown... I know Ross was distracted, but how hard would it be to hit 1 key?

Take battery out of laptop and tie charger cable around wrist would be a better idea.

[2 Points] Vendor_BBMC:

Its a pain if your usb key moves slightly and tor crashes.

This would make it crash everytime I reach for an envelope. And when im arrested I have thw only illegal bit attached to my fucking arm.

[1 Points] damnmachine:

This is a better option: https://github.com/hephaest0s/usbkill With Ross, when they distracted him and snatched his laptop, this device would have initiated an immediate shutdown and closing of encryption. Imagine how much differently that case would have gone if they lacked all that encrypted evidence?

Bunch of kids with imaginations.

Also, memory forensics. Apparently none of you know what that is (and you think your OS must not need RAM, just your precious little USB to do everything) and you all think that LE just goes into your file system looking for folders that say "crime". Why talk about things you have almost 0 education about? That's just denial.

This has been posted 1,000,000 times already. Sorry, buy you sound stupid bro. Why not just be smart? Ross was fucking stupid in that library that day on sooooooo many levels. Be smart and you don't need gimmicks.
