Guide: Updating Electrum in Tails 2.3

Noobs Guide: Updating Electrum in Tails 2.3_(kinda)

This guide will walk you through upgrading from Electrum v2.7.9 to v2.9.3...

Intro: When I upgraded to Tails 2.3 I experienced several days of Electrum not synchronizing to the servers. After a bit of headache I concluded that if I opened a wallet using the latest Electrum release it worked fine.

I tried using the commands on Electrums website, but I couldn't get it to work. If you do let me know!

Instructions:

  1. Go to the official Electrum website. electrum

  2. Navigate to the Download section - scroll to "Installation from Python sources" - Linux & download "Electrum-2.9.3.tar.gz" to "Tor Browser (persistent).

  3. Double click the downloaded tar.gz to extract it or right click & choose either "extract here" or "extract to..."

  4. Regardless of where you extracted it to, open the folder & drag the enclosed folder to your persistent section.

  5. Right click the "Electrum-2.9.3" folder & select "Open In terminal"

  6. Once terminal pops up simply type "python electrum" press enter & Electrum 2.9.2 should pop up.

  7. THATS IT!

Conclusion: I tried to make sure everything formatted nicely, forgive any mistakes! I did notice that the little ball in the bottom is now blue vs. the normal green. Everything has worked fine for me, I'm not sure if taking this route has any drawbacks that could possibly compromise OPSEC.

First guide I've ever written, so I hope it helps someone!

Cheers, Steve Buscemi F.T.P
