This happens a couple times a month for us. We're not moving big numbers either so it's got to be happening a lot out there. I think most often buyers know better but make a mistake, click the wrong button etc. Here are a few tips, and I hope other people will chime in with more.
- 1. Obviously don't make the mistake in the first place. I always decline/reject the order but you need to know that the name and address you sent (likely your own) is now and forever (theoretically) available to anyone that can access the servers of the market. This could be the market admin, hackers or LE - any of whom might have access now or at some point in the future. We are hearing about busts still from the original Silk Road servers right?
- 2. Ideally you have mastered PGP encryption, and you encrypt all your sensitive info. yourself.
- 3. Once the mistake has been made, I have been recommending that the buyer at a minimum close their account and start a new one. Ideally you move to another market. This will NOT erase the mistake, the info. is still there, but at least you cut the trail that connects your future dnm activity to that name/address.
You might think I'm over-reacting but I personally think there is going to be a harsh crack down on the DNM and leaving your name and address on a server is just a really really bad idea that could come back to haunt you.
This is why all the big time guys just deal thru Instagram.
