Search warrant & Multiple properties question

Hey, I was wondering, what happens when it comes to multiple properties and search warrants? Say if you have 2 properties and the police obtain a search warrant, do they need a separate search warrant for each house? Please let me know the details on this.

Anything is possible, but if the judge (or other official) is doing their job properly, solid arguments must exist to justify inclusion of each property. Otherwise, any evidence seized could be thrown out.

Make sure to say which country you're in, as search warrant laws vary wildly nation to nation. But I'm going to assume you're American and give advice in that vein.

First off, YMMV since all of this can be customized by LE. Generally when LE gets a warrant, it's because they have probable cause to believe that you are committing/have committed/will commit some crime worth searching your house.

Something like neighbors calling the police because a lot of people are seen entering and leaving your house, you're seen dealing, your house smells like drugs, etc can be probable cause in the eyes of a judge who signs off the warrant.

It's always better safe than sorry, I'd assume that LE would get a warrant for both properties. And if one unfortunate day you are arrested and police have a warrant to search your house (not them knocking on the door and saying they have a warrant, you being out and about, getting arrested, and having your house searched) make sure to give them the key to the door, so they don't break it down.

Police CAN get warrants 24/7, so don't take their threats of "we'll get a warrant" too lightly. If they have to ask, they can't do it, but police most definitely can get a search warrant at 3am.

I think there are a lot of variables to this question to give you an exact answer.

Chances are they will get a warrant for everything they know of that you own or could have drugs at. They could try to get addresses from snitches, watching you, or getting you to snitch on yourself.

They will raid all of they houses they know you're connected to on the same night regardless of owner

they make it what they want it to mean

If they have enough reason to search one of your properties, they have enough reason to search all of your properties. No LEO would say "well we know he sells drugs, but only at this house, so we'll just give him his privacy at his other."

Yes they are going to need a warrant for each property they are seeking to search. In fact, the search warrant affidavit is required to particularly describe each location with adequate detail so that the police have no doubt what property it is that will be searched. This usually means they must describe the address, a description of the basic layout of the property and any other characteristics that can distinguish it from any other property nearby. Furthermore, the police must have probable cause to search each property and without evidence of criminal activity linked to the property this will usually not exist.

the only way they wouldnt get a warrant for it is if they didnt know about it. chances are you would be under surveillance anyway and theyd notice you going there. if they did a warrant on your main place and found out about the other afterwards, you bet your ass theyre getting one for the second place..... and yes, warrants can be for multiple places
