Tracking says order is ready for pickup at local post office. WTF?

Order was late, so I MSGed vendor regarding status. He copy/pastes the tracking status, which indicates my order is sitting at my local post office and ready to be picked up. I didn't get the order shipped to a PO box; it was shipped to my home address, so I'm wondering why the fuck it's sitting in the post office. Clean house and consider the address burned?

Edit: I received no other indication besides the communication with the vendor that I have a package waiting (i.e., the post office didn't leave a notice that says "you have a package, come pick it up).

I would flee the country to be on the safe side.

I've had to go pick up multiple packages from USPS. They've always left me a card in my mail box telling me, but I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you decide not to go retrieve it I think the vendor has to give you a reship right?

Good luck

Yeah dude, you're totally fine. People do this all the time and I haven't seen one report of a bust in this manner.

[2 Points] thrreewwaway:

You're fine as long as you get that pink slip that says "Sorry we missed you". Also, you didn't specify whether or not this is an international package. This matters in my opinion. If it is "registered mail" then it will require a signature no matter what; this is NOT a controlled delivery. IMO if you ordered a heavy quantity of something smelly I wouldn't go pick it up but thats just how paranoid I am.

They do that when it couldn't reach your house in time on the carrier's route, and they just bring it back to the office. They'll try to resend it the next day or it'll be ready for pickup. It's normal

personally, I'd consider that package lost. i would never pick up a package if it had illegal product

This has happened multiple times to me with non dnm packages. My mailman just gets lazy, or forgets and item, and rather than telling me, he drops it off at the post office without any notification at all. You're fine, ignore anyone who's saying that you're in some sort of trouble.

TLDR: You're good, dawg.

My mailman "doesn't feel comfortable" leaving packages at my doorstep if nobody is home to accept the delivery. So he leaves a slip at my door saying to pick it up at the post office.

This happens almost every delivery since I'm always at work. Never had any issues when picking up at the post office, it's pretty normal for them.

Think about it like this: they're not going to waste the money or time to have an officer wait at the post office for God knows how long until you happen to show up for your stuff. They're going to do a controlled delivery when they know you'll be home. And that's really only likely if they've been watching you for a while and you regularly buy huge amounts of stuff.

Since you didn't get a notification from the PO, DO NOT pick it up. Sounds like a trap so I'd consider your address burnt.

Take one for the team and go pick it up. Don't forget to update us.

Its over with. Sorry
