What this controversy surrounding Coinbase at the moment?

I've always had good experiences with coinbase. What exactly is going on? I only make small purchases of bitcoins.

nothing to worry about they just have to report large transactions to the irs which doesn't effect 99% of dnm buyers.

I don’t know why the latest is even a surprise. A legit US company will be forced to cooperate with LE to mangle faces is a surprise? This should have been assumed! Small purchases can add up. I think they got records from people who bought or sold 20K or more over a 2 or so year period. I imagine many a mangleface here will be at that boundary no problem. From us mangleface addicts that’s a low bar. Lol! Plus knowing the feds they will use 11K Btc price to determine the value! If so, then a really really low bar!

The Washington Post (i think) recently had an article explaining that the IRS department responsible for audits was gutted and they don't even have enough resources to follow up on the millionaires on established re-payment plans. I'll try to find it. Dumping a bunch of BTC users will not result in a flurry of audits. I'm pretty sure of it.
