MDMA Chemistry Question - Why 84%?

I just got an EC test result that came back as 84%, no adulterants. It seems to be a commonly advertised purity. Is there one path that generally leads to 84% before washes? Why is it so common?

IIRC, if you had 100 grams of PURE MDMA, 84g would be MDMA and the 16g would be the salts used to stablize it from liquid to crystal.

Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.

The 84% mdma purity cap is bullshit. The hcl to make it a salt is called a counter ion and is not counted towards the overall purity. Don't know where this state red but it's wrong.

Energy Control never calculates the freebase out of the salt.

When you get the result 84% MDMA from EC then this means in the product is 84% MDMA hcl + 16% something else.

MDMA freeebase is an oil and has bad bioavailibility, hence it's usually available as the HCl salt. about 16% of the weight of each molecule MDMA HCl is the HCl, hence 100% pure MDMA HCl contains 84% MDMA and 16 HCl. since what hits the market is always HCl the whole 84% thing is kind of pointless, it makes more sense to call it e.g. 99% pure MDMA (HCl).

No, you cannot get any purer. The trouble comes from people not using the full acronym, MDMA-HCL, or better yet comes from people not recognizing that the MDMA and HCL contribute to atomic weight, which is broken down in a spectrum analysis. Here is an example, Table salt, NaCl, or Sodium Chloride with an atomic weight of 58 (approx), the atomic weight of Sodium is about 23, and the atomic weight of Chlorine is about 35. so, 23Na+35Cl= NaCL58 Which means that 40% of the weight of table salt is Sodium, and 60% of the weight is Chlorine. We call it Table salt (NaCl), but no one would ever suggest that you only had 40% pure table salt...

Because the other 16 is what needs to be hcl
