Ireland to legalize personal use of weed. And coke and heroin... with supervised injection facilities.

An amazing step in the right direction. Just wait until our generation takes over and the baby boomer generation and 60+ refer madness generation dies off. Then this world will actually be able to politicALLY get shit done and our voices finally will be heard. Maybe. Im not saying this so we can all be fucking addicts but maybe this will lead to better addiction treatment and not criminal prosecution for a disease some of us are cursed with. I would love to see how much crime would be reduced and addiction statistics lowered only if they treated addicts as patients instead of criminals.

With respect, they're not legalizing drugs. Try to imagine catholic Ireland doing that! They're THINKING about changing some legislation which prevents them from decriminilizing being a drug addict. Simply being a drug user in Ireland makes you, as a person, illegal.
This is very liberal of the Irish. What next? Legal contraception? The ferry to Hollyhead will be empty without those pregnant Irish girls.
“Research has shown that the use of supervised injecting centres is associated with self-reported reductions in injecting risk behaviours.”
Well dur. Heroin addicts don't go out much. There is only one thing they shop for, and they're very quick. I just saw a typical pair go by my window - a man and woman arguing with each other about who wasted a shot, walking as fast as its possible to travel before its considered running. She had a can of strong lager. He had an old Nokia pre-smartphone to his ear.
If injection rooms actually dispensed the medication which prevents their agonizing pain, addicts with homes might go there, and homeless addicts might choose it over McDonalds bathroom or my garden.
You just know that if you go to an injecting room in Dublin there will be stern, disapproving nuns waiting to lecture you. IF they have them in rural Ireland, the Garda will just wait outside to arrest addicts.
If you are an alcohol addict, you're treated with great tolerance in Ireland.

Doesn't really mean anything when we don't know the quantity we are allowed to carry.
For example, Mexico has this implemented and you can only carry like 15ug of LSD but you can carry quite an amount of Cocaine.

Sounds like I need to reach out to my long-lost Irish kin

Not sure if it was mentioned on our main r/DNM sub but potential POTUS Chris Christie just came out with a video showing he supports treatment for user/abusers/addicts as opposed to incarceration. But it's semi-related to this sub. Didn't mean to hijack this thread. Just thought it was relevant.
They're not legalizing it, they're decriminalizing it
