Imgur - Q's about anonymity and security

Hey y'all good peoples of the DNM.

I've heard things (not in the context of DNM) in the past about images that you upload to Imgur being able to be traced back to you because the image file contains location/date/time/device info that is originally saved with the photo. I'm wondering if this is true and if it is data that could potentially leave a link between my DNM/DNMReddit usernames and my clearnet names and such.

The situation that got me thinking is: I took a picture with my phone, uploaded it to imgur without an account, and then on my this account, used said photo and Imgur link to post a vendor review.

Anyone have any knowledge of the situation?

It has created a permanent link between your real identity and your DNM identity. What that means to you depends on the sorts of laws you regularly break but even if you're just buying personal amounts for personal use you'd do good to spend a few weeks reading about opsec and maybe just some general IT knowledge too.

The easiest way to destroy EXIF data is to save image to another format (if you had jpg save it as bmp) and then save it back to original format (or the one you want). All EXIF data will be lost.
