Conversation Topic: Do you guys think the DarkNet exacerbates the "gateway" phenomena?

We've all heard of the 'gateway' drug effect, most often attributed to THC or marijuana specifically. But many brilliant people have disregarded that and given good evidence that backs up their opinions. However, IME,i think its true. Also IME darknet was a huge gateway from 'innocent drugs' to the harder stuff that leads to more consequences.

Im curious to know if people who join our community are generally tempted to try more things, because they're surrounded by it and users/fanboys of different drugs. Its in everyones face when you browse the MP's. And obviously the fact that its so easy to access and obtain personal amounts of really anything, that the gateway princepal is more prevalent.

However i also know people who use DNM only for their specific DOC or some friends who have used it just once or twice to obtain a harder-to-get drug and then they're done. So maybe the temptation and easy access doesn't overcome users here disproportionally to average druggies IRL or maybe it does. I know it was the case for me personally.

But what do you guys think?

Here's my $.02 on the whole gateway drug phenomenon. I think it's real but different from the way most people do. As a "gateway" drug, cannabis functions to let you get high, something most people don't experience outside of certain events in their life and it can make you quite happy and feel good. If you don't like it you just kinda stop and maybe the next drug you try is alcohol (when you're old enough or start getting into it, I didn't get drunk until 3 years after the first time I got high). However, if you do like it, it becomes a small part of you. You may grow into a group of friends who also like the drug and you guys will hang out. Some of the people you meet through this drug or share this commonality with them may have tried other drugs at some point or heard about other ways to get high (glue, paint, robo, the more whack shit and ofc other real drugs). You may try it with them because they vouched for it. And as you learn more about new drugs you'll want to try them. Heard about this thing called acid? You see some crazy looking visual art that somebody says is what the whole world looks like on acid? WOAH LEMME GET DAT SHIT RIGHT DURRRR!!! Uppers are probably if you join the club scene or any kind of party scene, they're party drugs etc. The crowd you get in with will determine the types of drugs you try. I'd say they're grouped like

The chill

Weed

Acid

Shrooms

DMT

The Party drugs

Coke

Meth

Molly

Etc

The I just like feeling fucked up

Opiates

Lean

Painkillers

Dissociatives

The Experimenters

Anything pretty much but usually these are the experienced folks like us who hear about something that makes you feel a certain way, liken it to other things and decide that we want to try it. We research it, and truly want to document our feelings on how the drugs affect us, what they do to your mind, reflect on it even. Doing the drugs you weigh it out accurately, test it for authenticity, basically every time you get fucked up the first time it's almost like a science experiment and if you like it you keep going and if you don't you quit it.

Now all of these groups can cross mingle and there not exact nor complete but I think that's kinda how the whole gateway thing works. The only reason it's a "gateway" drug is because it is psychoactive and changes your perception. From there you take the part you like and maybe transition into something else that's a better version of that.

Now to your question, I think the DNMs enable the idea through two things. Firstly, availability, and secondly the people themselves. The first is obvious but the second relies on the fact that a lot of the people on here are of that final category, the experimenters. There's so much information out there on "you like to feel like this, this, and this, here, take this" and maybe you can't find 2C-B on the streets, I know for sure I can't but you certainly can here so maybe you buy a little, test it, try it, love it, and then experiment with other 2C-Xs. Granted that's not always a bad thing. People here buying their dilaudid and roxys and heroin are safer than if they decided to start buying heroin of the streets. As long as you don't get it from Quantik you're less likely to get Fentanyl in it. I know personally, I learned a lot from this sub and the DNMs about purity and different shit stuff is cut with. I learned how to practice safer usage and whatnot. Thanks for that guys <3

As well, the DNMs make the whole drug world safer for us users. With the reliability and accountability vendors have and are held to there's a sense of community that keeps us safe. The same reason Yelp helps you make a good decision where to eat /r/DarkNetMarkets helps us all to know where the good stuff is and what to avoid. This subreddit has, without a doubt, saved lives inadvertently because some guy started bitching about how much money he lost because he was shipped bad stuff but some other person read that and didn't buy that, didn't sell it, didn't use it.

tl;dr yeah but y'all are awesome anyways and do more good than bad

Yes, it is a gateway. Having fingertip access to nearly all available drugs is a bit of a double-edged sword. I have been fortunate enough to sample nearly everything available. It has taught me alot about myself, but has also hurt me at different moments in my life. Overall, I am thankful for this community and the markets. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Without the dark net I would not have tried a good 90% of what I have.

I have no idea where I would get anything offline aside from pot, and the occasional shrooms or NBOMe sold as LSD.

I'm of the opinion that drugs are only bad if you're stupid. I mean alcohols legal. I've been fascinated by drugs ever since I smoked my first blunt back in 9th grade. I've tried just about every class and they don't really live up to the hype (except psychedelics and maybe opiates). Nothing quite like good ol mary jane to me.

It's the convenience factor.
