Getting US Gov files on (alleged AlpahBay admin) Alexandre Cazes. A job for Deepdotweb or others? :D

You know, now that he's dead, I think Alexander Cezev Alexandre Cazes (you gotta get the name right!) is now a name that ANYONE can get all non-active investigation FBI files for through FOIA. https://www.fbi.gov/services/records-management/foipa/requesting-fbi-records

Maybe wait until early next year or so, their entire investigation should be done by then... one would hope. Hell I hope it's over now, but there's no way I'm requesting his FBI files. Anyone wanting to collect whatever the FBI will give you thru FOIA could get mail forwarding service in the USA and use a service called "scan mail" or "scan your mail" and get each page emailed to you. So you could do it totally anonymously if you really wanted to.

Maybe ask deepdotweb to do it! They probably would... paging /u/deepdot! Aren't you guys our news agency? Get on this shite! Pretty please!

You can get FOIA FBI docs on yourself or people who are dead. They'll send files for investigations which are closed. Aaron Swartz did this (got his own FBI files) when he was still alive. You could get his files now that he is dead and you know his name and you have proof (news articles will suffice) that he's dead.

Same with the DEA, IRS, US customs, etc. Just look on their sites and go to the FOIA section.

Canada's probably got some type of FOIA law that applies too, and I bet they had something to do with his investigation since he was a Canadian citizen. Where the journo's at?

I'm very interested. Don't know what the FBI would be able to give out though.... we'll see. I am attempting to apply right now, and they ask you to fill out a bunch of information about the deceased person. All that is required is first name, last name, and date of birth. Any idea of his birthday? Only way I'm going to be able to even submit an application.

edit: To be honest this is such a recent event that I highly doubt the FBI will have the investigation closed let alone be freely giving out the information. With such a huge operation that he was running... the FBI will be pouring over every little detail looking under every nook and cranny for a long time. I expect it will be a while before we gain access to these documents. I hope I'm wrong. But the U.S. Gov and FBI/other agencies will hide any information they want, for as long as they want, regardless of any FOIA, that's just the sad reality. If they don't want you to know about it, you never will.

With it still being an active investigation they will deny any FOIA requests based on that alone.

What about that Joseph Cox faggot from Vice who likes to dox people. I know that bottom feeder likes to nose around here. He's probably already submitted it.

What about the Dutch Police? Do the Dutch have FOIA equivalents? They were allegedly the ones that cracked this case wide open.. We should consider every agency that had similar intel to the FBI and see what each jurisdiction allows in terms of freedom of information, hitting from all sides.
