Local stingray

So I just found out that the city I live in 100% proof positive uses a stingray. No idea how many or anything like that but the news broke a story cause they got a copy of the contract between the city and Harris corp. The folks that make the stingray.

My question is how to be safe around them?

Will airplane mode be enough to stop my cell from connecting to the fake tower or do I need to ride around with my battery out until I need my phone?

I don't have anything to hide really but its a huge violation of privacy and my rights and I'd rather not participate.

Nobody could confidently answer about whether Airplane Mode protects you - if there's a malware component, then it would not. But Airplane Mode is probably useful.

And remember what Snowden and/or Assange said - better than taking your battery out (which is suspicious in itself), just leave the phone at home.

IIRC stingray won't intercept/crack iMessage, so you got that going for you.

Like others have said, don't call/text about bad boy stuff

Just use TextSecure and/or Signal 2.0 - all of your text messages will be encrypted prior transit. Stingray is meaningless except for those trolls who think plaintext = encryption -_-.

Get everybody you know to send messages about drug trades/homicides/potential mass shootings in order to obscure the legitimate illegal activity.
