If anyone is still using shitty web wallets like Coinbase or whatever, please consider using Electrum under Tails. You will not have to trust any third party with your money, your payments and withdrawals cannot be blocked for being "suspicious," and you will not have to use some website that requires you to run JavaScript while running Tor, which is potentially dangerous. EDIT: And you may save some money by not having as much reason to tumble your coins all the time.

HOWEVER, know this - you will have to secure your own coins, generally by enabling wallet encryption and having a very good passphrase, you will want to back up at least one copy of the 12-word Electrum "seed" which will allow you access to your coins in the event of an emergency, and PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANTLY, know that the Electrum server you use (and anyone who can hack it) will be able to know that your various Bitcoin addresses are shared by the same person, which is an opportunity for some pseudonyms to be linked to others, etc.

For instructions on how to set up Electrum under Tails, you can follow this guide: http://www.deepdotweb.com/jolly-rogers-security-guide-for-beginners/bitcoin-clients-tails-blockchain-electrum/

Any questions, just post 'em here.

EDIT: IMPORTANT NOTE - since Electrum is not integrated into Tails by default (yet), it is NOT configured to use Tor when used "normally" - you MUST specify the local Tor proxy in the command to start Electrum when using it in Tails, and using a .onion server helps ensure that all traffic is routed over Tor and that the connection is secured end-to-end. If you do not do this, your Electrum traffic WILL be routed over the clearnet and your anonymity may be compromised. Launching Electrum properly is simple enough to do, and is described in the guide I linked, above.

A) how do I get electrim on tails to connect to one of these nodes? B) I still don't quite get the benefit. Is it basically another layer of obfuscation seperating your identity from the coins?

Also I have one more slightly related question since you seem to be knowledgable and willing to help :) Is there any benefit to setting up a persistence volume in tails? I don't mind too much running electrum and loading my wallet.dat each time. Would I get any benefit from getting persistence going?
