Why OPSEC

I am intrigued as to why everybody feels the need to call security OPSEC. This is not a military operation. Do you describe the estimated arrival of your order as ETA at the LZ?

Well, yea actually ETA is a pretty common term, i dont know why you refer to it as a military term. pretty sure the reason we arent using LZ is because "landing zone" is just a fucking retarded thing to say.

Is this the first thing you've realized about this community? And in fact, the internet in general? We say LE instead of Law Enforcement, we say SR instead of SilkRoad, FE instead of Finalize Early, TMP instead of the marketplace, PGP instead of Pretty Good Privacy. And instead of typing out all of Operational Security, we type opsec. Its just easier. Are you new to the internet or something? These types of abbreviates go back almost as far as the internet. Do you bitch when people say LOL? Are you like 50 and never used g2g or brb on some messenger back in the day?

In fact, these abbreviations are built into the internet themselves. You dont type reddit.company or whitehouse.government.

Stop being such a pitiful grouch. Its annoying.

OPSEC is a useful abbreviation for a particular kind of security which doesn't come easily to people: you can be using Tor and PGP and Linux out the wazoo and still have terrible opsec.

Ghost recon we got a bogie at 10 o clock. Were gonna go ahead and neutralize the target, were gonna need a ETA on the LZ.

Operation: performance of a practical work or of something involving the practical application of principles or processes

Security: things done to make people or places safe

Thus Operational Security or OPSEC, the word applies to more than just military applications.

OPSEC is not only used here. It is quite a common term across the board when dealing with intense internet anonymity. It is used by public speakers at conventions concerning hacking, and other places.

Also, there is not another convienent term in the English Language, that means: "concerning all IRL activities pertaining to your questionable operations". OPSEC just works.

And all vendors and most buyers should be running a very tight setup, almost comparable to a military operation. CYA, stay smart.

[1 Points] Big_Daddy_Trucknutz:

How exactly do you know how militant my/our operation(s) is/are? If a bunch of rednecks with Kalashnikovs is a militia, where is the line drawn?

[1 Points] sharpshooter789:

I use eta and lz for my darknet communication.

[0 Points] silknsmooth:

It is a military operation, there is still a War on Drugs in the US. Instead of worrying about why people shouldn't use OPSEC in the way you want, you should worry about implementing the BEST possible OPSEC when dealing with these markets! Vendors are at a huge risk here and buyers aren't immune either. Unless your LE and don't care? I'm high as fuck so that's all lol.
