Let's have a moment of silence for the first generation of DNMs that were truly functional and easy to use. In this category goes markets like Evo and Agora. These markets were great but old-school, basically like the Model T of markets. There markets are long gone and now we look to see what the markets of the future need to look like.
Specs
Do not use BTC as primary currency. As is well documented LE is very good at tracing the flow of bitcoins in the blockchain for illicit use. Even using mixers is vulnerable to temporal tracking is not secure. I think that XMR will need to be the primary currency used in the future. Or a market can release its own blockchain token with XMR properties and a tool to seamlessly convert from BTC (obviously this opens a lot of different attack vectors). BTC can have a secondary role but I believe markets should not be using it as primary payment method.
Decentralization of servers. As we've seen recently once LE finds the server (because operators like to leave their personal email in plaintext somewhere on the web) they can start a honeypot and shut down the site. To prevent this centralization we can have a decentralized marketplace in the sense that it runs on different nodes in the network. In order to shut down the marketplace they would have to bring down the entire network, which is impossible. One example of a decentralized market on ethereum is Darkmall.
Multi-sig. This is something that is discussed frequently, and nobody uses it because its not integrated into markets in a user-friendly fashion. I think with a good front end multi-sig could take off, and in fact should be mandatory in future markets.
Thoughts? What are some other features future markets should have?
This is all very new and exciting, haven't heard about any of this recently. Maybe we need another thread about it
