XMR (Monero) GUI

For anyone that is interested in utilizing the anon tech of Monero (and struggled with the Command line wallet) here is an un-official copy of the Official GUI wallet set to be released shortly. This was created by a respected contributor of the monero-core project https://github.com/Jaqueeee/monero-core/releases/tag/pre-beta If you dont want to use your own node i would recommend a tor node provided by Sigaint.. simply open the wallet settings and point the wallet at monero7tukbkxn57.onionport:18081 (Please be aware that some privacy is compromised when not utilizing your own node)

Btw, if you'd like to test wallet with daemon integration (OS X) i recommend these builds: https://github.com/monero-project/monero-core/pull/217

I know most DNM users are bitcoin loyalist but i thought it wouldn't hurt to provide multiple options. With Monero having already tested RingCT (which will be implemented early January) its anon tech will be the leader in the crypto space so hopefully the wallet can help drive more adoption from those that may have been intimidated with by the command line wallet. Its the Wild West in the DNM's..Stay safe out here........

The reason for this is that Bitcoin offers more than enough privacy. And if you are a vendor and your funds are locked up in escrow for a period of two weeks you want a system with a lot of liquidity to get some stability in the price.

If you are getting paid in Monero you might lose 30% of your paycheck by the time the funds have been released from escrow.

Another problem with Monero is that it doesn't support multisig. After years of exit scams the markets and users are finally evolving and starting to use markets like DHL and Hansa and soon OpenBazaar 2.0

If we would suddenly all jump to your "shitcoin" we will loose everything we have gained over the years. We will be back to huge price swings, which will lead to more vendors exit scamming. And we will lose our precious multisig markets.

I know you guys from /r/Monero don't want to hear this because you have invested a lot of money hoping we would start to use your shitty Monero coin.

But personally I just prefer a proven system with a lot of liquidity, from not just the darknet and that is Bitcoin.

To answer the question of our most active community member /u/mdmangel

How is all this so much better than BTC?

It is not. :)

Its just the CryptoWar where people try to make money of the back of others. :)

I mean, aren't we all, Monero lovers included? Don't you need BTC to get xmr?

If you want to run XMR through TAILS please utilize this guide...

With so many guides and instructions written in a very noob unfriendly style as it is assumed you already know certain things before you start it has been a very steep learning curve and i have spent a lot of time learning a lot of things that i didnt really need to know. If only someone could have simply told me what to click on and what to type in. So I've decided to write out a few "As simple as I can make it" guides. I've most recently been working on installing Monero in TAILS and connecting through Tor; so that is the first guide ive written. I will also be posting on using installing and running Joinmarket and Veracrypt in TAILS and using Multi-Sig wallets as and when I have the time. Ive deliberatly left out the detailed explanations of what we are doing with commands etc as it is all very technical and can be rather intimidating for new users (I dont understand all of it myself) I think this puts a lot of people off trying when its actually very easy when you know what to do (you dont NEED to know why). Using the following guide I have Monero running in TAILS and connecting succesfully through Tor. Before you start you need to have TAILS with a persistent volume and administrator password set up and a minimum of 20 GB free space to download the blockchain (I recommend a seperate USB/HDD for this). Go to getmonero.org/downloads and Download the 32-bit Linux version Create a folder inside your Persistent Folder, call it Monero and extract the downloaded .tar file into it. Right click inside the Monero folder and select "open in terminal" Copy and paste the following into the terminal, hit enter and enter your administrator password when prompted: sudo iptables -I OUTPUT 2 -p tcp -d 127.0.0.1 -m tcp --dport 18081 -j ACCEPT https://anonimag.es/image/ylW Copy and paste the following into the terminal and hit enter: DNS_PUBLIC=tcp TORSOCKS_ALLOW_INBOUND=1 torsocks ./monerod --p2p-bind-ip 127.0.0.1 --no-igd --rpc-bind-ip 127.0.0.1 --data-dir /YOUR/DATA/DIRECTORY*** *** Replace "/YOUR/DATA/DIRECTORY" in the command with your actual data directory (Ex: /media/amnesia/1TBExternalDrive/bitmonero) This is where the blockchain will be downloaded. https://anonimag.es/image/yla Note that you will have to change the permission settings on the data directory on the external drive when/if you receive a "permission denied" message after step 5, https://anonimag.es/image/ylO to do this: A. Right click on the bitmonero folder used as the data directory (Ex: /media/amnesia/1TBExternalDrive/bitmonero) B. Click properties, C. Click Permissions, D. Click Change permissions for enclosed files, E. Set all "files" to "Read and Write" F. Click change. https://anonimag.es/image/yle You will have to repeat this every time you reboot TAILS as it will not save the changes. Now repeat step 5. (You should now be downloading the blockchain. It will take a long time to download, over 48hrs for me) Right click inside the monero folder (inside your Persistent Folder) and select "open in terminal" again Copy and paste the following into the terminal and hit enter: ./monero-wallet-cli Follow the intructions on screen to set a wallet name, password and language. https://anonimag.es/image/yl8 And that's it! The wallet will sync with the blockchain as it downloads. After a very long wait you have a fully synced and functioning Monero Wallet running in TAILS through Tor.

Monero is just to much "work" to get up and running and more so to figure out how it works and know just exactly how safe my "Monero" coins would be against theft, blockchain info or (possible) server logs on the Monero wallet website.

A GUI is a step in the right direction, but as a wrapper that just send commands to the required installed blockchain command client, makes it rather old fashioned instead of giving users the impression that with this new cryptocurrency you are promoting, we are seeing some cutting edge technology - here in the year 2016. (Yes I did see that with the new GUI you could choose some other peoples server to broadcast your transactions, but why not come up with something a bit more new to the field)

With a newly developed cryptocurrency that have so many older cryptos to use as an example of what to improve, why haven't a GUI wallet been available from week 1. And why haven't they made it so much easier to implement for software developers or even built it with a simplified SDK that would make it easy for even the mere novice programmers to code some software for it with ease, and more importantly, making it easy to run a software wallet without having to download the entire blockchain!

The number of software wallets for bitcoin is remarkably few, considering how many transactions that have been made and the number of users it have, but its actually quite understandable why so few really wants to start code some wallet software for it, when its nearly impossible to even learn the mathematical calculation of creating a new wallet address with ECC, and then is restricted to use the 3rd party libraries available, or even worse and need the blockchain to be available somewhere.

There really aren't any software wallet that have any fancy features that just seems the slightest bit impressive in any way, but this is probably due to the fact that those with new ideas cant get started on coding the very first steps of the wallets functions.

How DARE any one brings up Monero on this forum!!! That shit coin is history, and belongs in the exit scam history books. Run away you XMR shills, we have been deeply fucked by Oasis.

Some?! You send all your addresses to this server, it can spy on your and everything you do!

Also PSA: Monero is easy to deanonymize in a handful of situations

You can talk about RingCT happening in the future but RIGHT NOW Monero is still barely any more private than bitcoin. And we're doing fine with bitcoin thanks.
