Interest in a TOR based reddit?

With the post earlier today we thought that having an anonymous onion reddit site would allow much more freedom than the clearnet, since on here the sub has to obey reddit's general rules.

This would be a moderate project, so we'd just like to get the communities opinion before we start actively researching and starting the project.

Naturally we'd be using reddits open source script, of which requires the use of javascript which is the only hindering factor as we see it. However since JS is required for normal posting on reddit and operation of the site we're not sure that we can replace this, and most likely the resulting site would require the same JS as the clearnet reddit does.

If it does take off then we'd invite the current mods to help out, although we understand it's already enough to moderate this subreddit. That's a bridge to cross in the possible future, although we're sure they could reference a few outstanding community members to help.

Thanks in advance, DNS

EDIT: Okay, it seems like it's got decent traction. Please comment about any changes you'd like to see from the clearnet reddit in terms of site operation (not rules).

We're starting to build a dedicated server for this and we should have an update within a few days.

Generating the key for ReddiTor

EDIT2: Also looking at WhoaVerse, since this is another open source script that has a better focus on privacy and anonymity.

EDIT3: Still here and working on it, we're trying to see if we can get the reddit script working, if not we'll be using Whoaverse.

I think its a great idea!

I setup my own Reddit on tor with a VM a while back, even got a vanity address generated with scallion, but I never really got around to advertising it or anything beyond creating a few subreddits and some generic content. Id love to see a darknet reddit that actually has an active community, seems like now is a good time to get one started.

Oh, you mean the hub, or any of the associated market forums?

Wasn't there already a ReddiTor that eventually died? I feel like I remember seeing it on /r/onions

Yes, definitely a good idea.

Sounds fantastic, however I think something similar has already (unsuccessfully) been done. I can't remember the name of the site. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please pitch in.
Either way, I'm ready for this to happen.

It is good idea, but you need to think it through. There is a reason why there are rules. People behave badly when they know they are anonymous. Spam and flooding are just two things to consider.

[2 Points] skunktrunk:

Great idea, please watch out for LE infiltration...

there's been like over 3 failed darknet reddits. they eventually had shit like cp on it. some didn't, some did.

[1 Points] The-Fear:

I like the idea , would there be the ability to create subs ?

[1 Points] AcaciaBlue:

cool. How bad is having javascript on in torbrowser? I assume a system of white list could be made just for specific sites.

I think it's a great idea and would like to see it succeed.

Can I ask you to clarify what sort of operational changes you are asking for suggestions about? I imagine most people are clear about the potential differences in rules and discussion due to the fact that we (subreddit mods) are bound to the terms that reddit lays out for us to operate under.

Are you more curious about overall site format (reddits forum type vs. simplemachine for example) or are you more interested in sticking with the general functionality and layout of reddit, but want to add or exclude features based on what users request?

There is (or was) a Reddit clone on Hyperboria. Sure, not Tor.

How is IPv6 support going? We should totally have a few nodes on cjdns.

[1 Points] None:

I will fully support this can anyone tell me if it already exists?

[1 Points] Xeeroy:

I'm pretty sure you could also use the open source bb method that many other forums on darknet uses.

One upvote is not enough for this post.

Absolutely! I actually think that there would be less idiotic behaviour judging from the darknet crowd in general.

[1 Points] OptionalAccountant:

I would much prefer a reddit-based TOR!

[1 Points] Cehneh:

This is an awesome idea, I'm in.
