Documentary Recommendations

If anyone could recommend any high quality drug/darknet/black market documentaries that would be fantastic. I'm not talking about any vice/drugs inc type of shit, or any of those typical stoner docs but rather informative well directed documentaries.

Some examples which come to mind:

Alex Gibney - Dark Web He's a great filmmaker has an interesting take on the Silkroad DPR story

Alex Gibney - Zero Days Scary stuff, higlights the next war will not be fought in the skies or with bombs but rather online

Cocaine Cowbodys I didn't know much about the early cocaine trade was interesting.

Smash & Grab This is one of my favorites, closest thing to Oceans 11

Sour Grapes Based on the fine and rare wine industry and how a counterfeiter defrauded top auction houses for tens of millions of dollars.

How to Make Money Selling Drugs interestingly shot, about the whole legislation debate. But yes I get it, legalize them already. Had some big names, Woody Harelson, Eminem, Russel Simons.

Narcos Though not a doc but it's Narcos, nothing more to add.

Its only available in Russian but we did a tour of the alphabay HQ employee lounge for a local media outlet for a documentary on best employee lounges. My favorite part was when the camera carrier attempted to lean on the table but the table was made of cocaine and it crumbled.

First of all, it's driving me nuts, you need to fix the bottom link to read: How To Make Money Selling Drugs, with an s.

I watch a shit ton of documentaries, typically on cyber crime, drugs and music.

The two that you don't have on your list came out recently and are more or less about the same subject/time period--- but not about DNM's or anything.. just LSD culture in the 60's.

The Sunshine Makers 2016

Orange Sunshine 2016

The story of the 60's, of psychedelics and LSD. Tim Scully and Nick Sand, the hippy mafia... all of these things will become clear if you're not already familiar with how LSD was made in the 60's and distributed in California. While we're in this era, why not continue!?

Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson 2008

A wonderfully done docu on the one and only god of Gonzo himself, Hunter S. Thompson. A great film for not just its focus on Hunter, but the culture surrounding him in the 60's and 70's. I love watching this documentary on acid, despite the ending (he killed himself) being kind of sad, it's an uplifting movie and will leaving you grinning.

Not really darknet docus, but hey, you listed some drug ones, so there you go. You've pretty much got the lot of the documentaries that focus on darknet stuff. You could check out We Steal Secrets: The Story Of Wikileaks I suppose... and the BBC has some shit about getting drugs sent to you in the mail -- you can't find anymore because I don't believe there are any more. I feel your pain though, when I find an awesome documentary about new-ish subject matter, I always want more and you usually have to wait a while between good docs.

You've also got Cocaine Cowboys Reloaded which is an extended cut of the original and Cocaine Cowboys 2 which looks at another side of the whole thing.

Baraka! I also highly recommend. It's a documentary with no words or narration! It takes you across the planet through all these different cultures and ways of living and you have no idea where you're at! It's quite the experience, makes you think a lot. Always makes me feel more grounded.

'The House I live In' is great if you want to learn about the politics behind the War on Drugs in America

[1 Points] MotionDrive:

Not really a drug documentary but I just watched Soaked in Bleach and holy shit. It pretty much proves Kurt Cobain was murdered.

Nice to see 'Zero Days' in your list. Watched it maybe 4-6 weeks back and loved it. I find the subject matter, and Stuxnet specifically, very interesting, and this didn't disappoint at all. I've watched a few shows about Stuxnet, and this was by far the most informative.

And thanks for putting 'Smash & Grab' in your list. I'd never heard of it, but I watched it this evening and found it very entertaining, as well as informative. I'd heard of the Pink Panthers, and their exploits, but knew next to nothing as far as who it was that comprised the group. I won't spoil it for those that want to watch it, but I will say that I was kinda surprised as to who it was that comprised the group.

Make sure you check out r/documentaries. A lot of stuff gets reposted all the time, but you can find a lot of good stuff via that sub. Also, you can filter the posts in that sub by a lot of diff subjects, including drugs --> https://www.reddit.com/r/Documentaries/search?q=flair%3A'Drugs'&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=all
