Is it actually illegal to send btc to a darknet market (in the UK) if you're intent on buying legal products?

Tried to send a larger than normal amount of btc (£200) to the dream market, but they delayed the transaction (72hrs) stating they wanted proof of identification...

Well first of all, you fucked up by trying to send directly from wherever you bought coins to the market wallet. Beyond that, I have no clue.

Better safe than sorry to go through 1 or 2 personal wallets and then market.

Also /r/DNMUK would be better for this question :)

If the market takes a commission off your purchases, then technically-speaking, yes. You are committing the crime of funding a criminal organization.

It is illegal to use a darknet market period. Browsing for research is allowed but sending money or purchasing any goods (whether or not the goods themselves are legal or not) is illegal. Also anywhere you can buy coins have recently begun limiting the transfers to known illegal services wallets. They will seize your coin and potentially are sharing info with the Feds. Coinbase/GDAX is especially big on this. Send the coin to a personal wallet, convert to monero, and then shift the monero back into BTC to your DNM wallet or another wallet such as electrum.
