[OPSEC] Called USPS to fix a tracking loop; bad idea?

So, I've been having some shipping problems with a certain vendor that's causing my packages to be delayed for a significant time.

When he ships out, the tracking will bounce around his state for a bit like:

Point A --> Point B (close by) --> Point C (really small town that it has no business going to--also close by) --> Point A --> Point B --> Point A --> My state

This last time it was being particularly cyclical, going back to the original USPS facility many times. My drug mind got the best of me of course, so I called USPS to have them "flag" it, look into it, whatever they do.

The lady told me it was indeed strange, but probably due to the kind of shipping label the sender was using. She said it's not uncommon that the shipping labels are misread or confusing for the machines, so they get routed incorrectly.

Anyway, I have a case # and someone is supposed to call me back soon from USPS to let me know what the status of the package is.

Obviously at this point I've tied myself to the package in some way, I know that.

Anyone have experience with this?

Does anyone know what the process is? They aren't going to do anything crazy right?

Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone else has done something similar.

tl;dr Package tracking being retarded; called USPS to open case, they are gonna call back with info. Dumb or harmless?

Hey man, you are okay. This is normal behavior from anyone who uses USPS and sees there is a problem. Obviously you do lose your plausible deniability if you didn't call from a burner, but the chances of something bad coming out is low anyway. But this is a MUCH better option than having the pack get RTS'ed.

USPS won't do anything crazy. They'll probably actually get you your pack. I had to do this one time a while back. I used a burner. A pack just went off radar, was in the wrong state, and just sat. I called, they got me my pack in 2 days.

If it's sent to a Post office close by just call them and say "hey my package says it's there. can I pick it up?" and they'll say what's the tracking #, you give it to them, then you go and get it.

I've done this with clearnet and DNM stuff. It's fine lol

I had a lost package, post man marked delivered, and it was not in the mailbox. I called USPS and reported it.. They investigated for like a week, then called me and apologized that they couldnt locate it.

I think the mailman took it.

They probably won't fix it. You'll get it in 6 to 8 weeks

I wouldn't, but that's just me. I liked and agreed with the reasoning of the commenters who would. The right answer is to respond just as you would if the pack were clean. Whatever it is you normally do should be the response you default to, only change course for clear and unavoidable reasons.
