The U.S. shifting gears on weed: Congratulations Oregon, Alaska and DC (kinda)

Woohoo!

Partisan politics aside, last night was another great push for legalization of drugs in the U.S.:

FYI It doesn't become law until actual legislation passes in state assembly, but that should happen pretty quickly.

EDIT: Thanks to /u/Sluisifer who dug into the California proposition wording. Apparently, the drugs that fall under this proposition do not include LSD, shrooms but include some psychedelics like peyote and mescaline. See the comments below for more details.

Decriminalization is the true goal of all this. Equality is impossible without it. Everyone already smokes weed, its the minorities who are punished for it. Most white people just want it to be easier access to the good stuff.

I've been reading about this on message boards all day, I think the major issue is all the old, brain washed fucks who still believe in reefer madness propaganda from that era.

I read an insane comment today talking about how "all the homeless are going to Colorado and using their food cards to buy pot", how misinformed can you get?

Anyone else love how growing keeps getting legalized in shitty places to grow?

I thought for sure Florida was going to make it. But it's where old people go to die so they fucked that up

Feels good to be an Oregonian today :)

I wonder if people can take advantage of DC law and sell some cheap item ex: candy bar, peanut for an increased price then include marijuana as a "gift".

Here's the law:

Washington, D.C.'s proposal, while scaled back compared to the others, allows for a person over 21 years old to posses up to two ounces of marijuana for personal use and grow up to six cannabis plants in their home. It also allows people to transfer up to one ounce of marijuana to another person, but not sell it.

[3 Points] JaredUC:

I have a feeling DC will veto the legalization, they have 29 days.

[3 Points] sharpshooter789:

Unfortunately, my state will never allow marijuana. Like many states in the NE mine does not allow voters to make laws; its left solely up to legislative and executive branch. Even our alcohol laws are terrible. Beer can only be sold by beer distributors, bars, and a limited amount of grocery stores. The latter two only allow six packs. Anything stronger is sold in a state store. The state stores can not sell beer either. Further, the state stores have a rather limited amount of products which have to be approved.

There is talk about medical legislation, but it is incredibly strict and only covers a handful of conditions (not even cancer is included). Additionally, it does not allow marijuana to be smoked.

  • California approved prop 47, which reduces possession to a misdemeanor. Not quite legalization, but we're getting there.

Can you be more specific with this? Possession is already decriminalized in CA and its an infraction if you carry under an ounce. Infractions are even less severe than misdemeanors.

This is amazing.
Can't wait for something like this to happen in my little corner of the world, problem is that the old fucks just won't die :(

It took well over 6 months after the vote for the WA state legislature to actually finally sign the rec use initiative into law and then it took another year before the first rec use pot shop opened its doors to the public. All in all, it took about two years to get everything going once the vote had been won. I wouldn't count on it happening "quickly".

[1 Points] fakeidaddiction:

EDIT*** Alaskans already been able to use/have 1 oz of weed in their personal home, and 6 plants.

So what happens to the cannabis DNM market when most states become legal? Time to pack up, DNMs will be stim/psyche/opiate only.
