Bitcoin address question

Went on block chain and looked up my alphabay deposit address and it shows multiple transactions, 13 to be exact, in the past. This seems kind of phishy but could it possibly be from recycled addresses? To clear things up, I have not made any deposits in the past, this would be my first but decided to look up the address first.

Seems weird indeed... If I was in charge of the AB security I would be concerned....

It's been mentioned before that AlphaBay reuses deposit addresses rather than generating new ones....so I guess this isn't unusual, at least for that specific market.

As far as a security risk goes, its debatable on what it could actually result in OPSEC risk wise, depending on the NETSEC/OPSEC practiced by the person depositing..and then the vendor on the other end, etc....Ideally, all addresses would be new, maybe a hot wallet for escrow, and perhaps even a new address or two on the withdrawal side as well, who knows how tinfoil-y it should really be....but AB doesn't take those steps at all, as far as I know.

This is normal. Some address are in a reusable pool. Managing 200,000+ deposit addresses for all our users would require several tens of money servers running. Some address can be reused, but every transaction gets wiped from the server after 7 days, so there is no way to know who the address belonged to in the past. Also, if you get a deposit address and you do not deposit, and do not login for 5 days, the address may get deassigned and thrown back in the available pool, in that case you will need to simply login and go to Balance page to get a new one.

Alphabay indeed reuses return addresses. Does it really matter? Don't send money to an abay address more than once. And yes, its stupid, I agree.
