Open source market?

Has there ever been an open source market?

I think the community would profit from a distributed market (which would make it takedown resistend) over TOR/i2p, maybe even both.

while OpenBazaar looks nice, I dont think its a good fit for a darknetmarket, as it uses javascript, and has not been developed as a darknet. This means its probably more prone to opsec errors, etc.

OpenBazaar is a new model, DarkMarket is somewhat it's trial/beta/whatever you want to call it.

As far as I am aware (I have looked into it) there have only been a couple of small attempts at creating an opensource market like this but nothing has taken off.

I think that OpenBazaar has quite a bit of potenital and my personal beliefs is that it will possibly become the new "system" although I don't think it will be the only one. One of the beautiful things about anything open source is that there will always be new eyes out there looking at ways to improve on them. I am looking forward to what it builds into.

Aside from the javascript concerns (which are valid) I am curious what other thoughts you might have that make you not think that it's a good fit for DNMs. Note: I am not disagreeing with you; I am genuinely interested. I have been surprised that there's not been a lot of discussion here regarding it and it's potential, but I have mostly chalked that up to the fact that a majority of the subscribers here are mostly users who have been pleased with the current system -- why not? It has worked very well and not everyone out there needs to be working on developing new systems; if that were the case we would have 33,000 members and 33,000 new market announcements.

But we do have quite a few people who are actively working ideas or even brainstorming ideas and I love it when people add their thoughts about everything. Even if people don't have ideas about what to try, almost everyone is able to notice something potentially detrimental and it helps everyone think about ways to work with them.
