My Experience Opening a PO Box (for your info)

Just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone here is wondering about the process of opening a PO box, if thats what you want to call it.

First off, I looked up online to find out pricing of PO boxes. I found out that in small towns (maybe smaller post offices) it is cheaper to rent a PO box. I selected the post office that would work for me and went in person to rent it.

When I went in, in person, they required two forms of ID. I assume this is standard. I only had my drivers license and was caught off guard by this. The postal employee said I could use a medical insurance card if I had one. The employee filled out the form for me and then went to a computer to enter the info. I paid on the spot and got two keys and was on my way.

There isn't much to it but I figured I'd share for anyone who may be curious.

Thanks I appreciate this info. Is it safer to get packs delivered to PO boxes? Or your home mailbox?

Also, with the forms of ID's, did they scan them or something or verify them or do they just look at it?

The application form tells you pretty much all you need to know.

The real key is to pick a box as close to a root hub as possible so you get your shit faster. Ones with long hours were even better.

Medical insurance card worked for you? Was this in the States?

What it's the difference between ship to PO Box or ship to your house if when you open a PO BOX you must give your details ¿? More safe when pick up the package ? I don't really understand sry , anyone can explain me¿?

Something I would suggest when considering a PO Box, especially in a smaller market PO, scout the lobby area for the larger key operated lockers where they can put packages that are too large for your PO Box, they put the package in the larger box then they put the key to the larger box in your PO Box. Having these lockers readily available is a good thing, it would save you from having to go to the main desk to get your package. Also check the lobby hours, ones that are always open, with the large parcel storage lockers, let you go in at your convenience (main desk doesn't have to be open) also leads to less interaction with PO employees. Mostly just a matter of convenience, but convenience matters.
