Will quantum computing break the darknet?

Here's the scenario I imagine:

A state actor deploys a quantum computer to de anonymize TOR, I2P, Freenet, (etc)...Arrests go down on a scale never before seen. buyers' mailboxes start to empty out until a market emerges that is based on post-quantum cryptography...

Thoughts?

I have unfortuantely come to the exact same conclusion you have.

Hopefully they either won't be too interested in doing so or we will have post-quantum sufficient encryption before the darknet is entirely destroyed.

It's certainly possible, although we're a long way off from it if it ever does happen. Quantum computing is still in its infancy, and the most complex equations these machines have been able to solve to date aren't much more complex than 3x5.

when that happens the darknet will move on to quantum as well... by that time my son will be the one buying the molly for me!
