Does anyone use Whatsapp?

Hello kind of off topic but at the same time not really. More of a OPSEC question. Does anyone use Whatsapp? i was on my snapchat last night and i was watching the CNN's daily "bubble" and they were talking about how whatsapp scrambles your calls with everyones elses so theres no way of tracing the call i guess its the same with text too. Just wondering if Whatsapp would be a good alternative to a burner phone maybe? Search it up on the app store tell me what you guys think.

Just, don't.

Use Signal, please.

Put it this way. It's owned by Facebook. Do you really think they are gonna make it so that it is impossible to trace a call or to decrypt a text message? Most likely no.

It might be hard for others to figure it out, but I'm sure Facebook will always have a way. Just saying.

You don't spend billions on this app for nothing.

A free app owned by FB; would you really expect utmost privacy from that?

The encryption likely means that normal users and majority of people outside of FB and its third-parties won't have access to your messages. Trusting it for any sort of opsec outside of that is a horrible idea.

Signal is a better alternative.

Signal for me. Open source FTW, Snowden approved and used.

I wouldn't trust third parties to encrypt and exchange messages. Use Ricochet.im or Tor Messenger instead and use PGP.
