My question is, why the hell were people on SR to begin with? It amazes me that they people would use such an inferior market to begin with.

Because of name recognition. If you asked people in the street to name a DNM, most would look at you blankly and the rest would say "Silk Road." People use it because it's been riding on the coattails of its predecessor for the last year. You only have to look at the SR and the noob sub on an average day; it's full of noobs asking how to get onto SR because it's the only market they've heard of and they're often unaware there are other, better alternatives.
Of course, some buyers use it because their go to vendor only sells there. Me? I'd have found another favourite vendor but each to their own.

It was the first one I found, it seemed to work alright to noob me. All my orders were filled perfectly. It was only after a few weeks of using it that I found out about this sub and other, better markets.
