Has Tails/Encryption/VPN actually saved anyone?

Any anecdotal stories of OPSEC successes? I'm kinda of the opinion, if LE wants you, they will get you.

I guess Tails and the common OPSEC recipes can make LE job a tad more difficult. But if they want to tie a package to a recipient, they can. I think it's more a question of do they wan to.

Does anyone have any tails, (haha) of TAILS or other common OPSEC saving the day? Any stories of OPSEC actually working to get someone out of trouble?

It saves you everyday without you knowing. If you don't use it and get busted, you'll understand the logic.

Hahahahah honestly my first thought was "Well try selling drugs on Craigslist and see how much better TAILS fairs."

Yeah encryption has saved people's asses it's in the very basis of the idea. When SR1 got shut down there were thousands of addresses all over the world, and without encryption LE would've just read off all their conversations, their addresses.

It sucks that back in the day some vendors would say that encryption was a hassle so I'm sure more than a few people got locked up for no reason.

Plus good OPSEC wouldn't ever have a story. The best OPSEC story is no story.

When LE get you, it is usually not because they analyzed your online traces, like OS fingerprints, but because regular real life stuff (package caught, vendor caught with list of addresses etc)

One of the huge advantages of TAILS, is that it is on your USB and portable, so in case you have a visit, you can easily hide all the cyber evidences at ones
