I recently talked to my father who works in the narcotics division of our local PD. We were prompted into a discussion of investigation tactics after seeing the news report on Maxo Kream. He gave me a few tidbits of knowledge that aren't usually covered on here.
Most of these tips are for people moving big weight
First, they have caught on to the wasn't mine/play dumb tactic, so they are letting packages through that they know contain drugs sometimes. Then they will flag the address and log more evidence from suspicious packages until they know you are fucked. This includes opening packages recording evidence and sending them through. Pack frequency is also a main tell (esp. for lbs of bud)
Second, if there is any large indicator that your pack may contain drugs (mostly super dank weed smell) you may now be under investigation, so play it cool with that address now for a little/make some diverting packages. He says the main problem with weed is the smell if the pack busts is too obnoxious to not investigate because it reeks the whole mailroom.
Third, dogs still hit on boxes that are triple vacuum sealed, pills don't register to dogs.
Fourth, if you are a big fish they are going to play the long game. He says investigations will take a year if not more sometimes because they want you and everyone who helps you. Plus they want that money. A large percentage goes back to the department and is reported at the end of the year (more money means nicer equipment and vehicles)
Fifth, they will sit on the house and watch you. To see where you go who goes in and such. Don't think they are going to stop at knowing where the pack lands. If they know who's moving the dope, they may get a car to stop you and find probable cause for a search
Some good news. They still however aren't sure about specifics of darknetmarkets a lot of the time and just assume you know some dude that plugs you in or that you are getting cali bud from dispensaries

Vendors really need to alcohol wipe the outside of that stuff.
