Burner phones

DO most of you all use burner phones, and if you do use a burner phone just wondering how you went about setting it up?

Burners are outdated these days, so to speak. Signal Messenger or OTR jabber can be installed and configured to only start when a VPN connection is running. Signal is pretty well supported and also offers encrypted voice calls as well.

This probably isnt good enough for vendor communications but for local suppliers reselling DNM gear, it's your best bet.

And remember, if someone can't take the time to download an app to safely reach you with, they don't deserve your business relationship.

Apps like these can save your ass.

Agree with the sentiments here. Burner phones are good OpSec for IRL illegal activities...and they seem to work very well for Jason Bourne.

No real need for a burner when it comes to DNMs unless you're a vendor with a big team working for you.

I'm no expert on this, but a few suggestions:

  1. Burner phones (and the airtime cards for them) are available at lots of places...department stores, electronics stores, drug stores. The most basic flips phones will run $20 or so, with smart phones running more like $30 or $40. Airtime cards start at around $20.
  2. When you are ready to go and purchase one, leave your identity-linked electronics at home. Don't park in the store parking lot (your license plate could be caught on security camera)...park at a nearby store and walk over. Depending on your paranoia level, you may want to wear sunglasses and/or a hood. Do not wear clothing that stands out (such as your favorite football jersey that you wear all the time).
  3. Use cash to make the purchase.
  4. Do NOT activate the phone using your home's clearnet internet connection. Either do it using the phone itself using a public WiFi spot, or do it from your computer using Tor.
  5. If possible, keep the phone shut off and the battery out of the phone when near your home.
  6. Don't have your normal phone and your burner phone on you at the same time with both turned on.
  7. Remember that if you use the burner to call people with non-burner phones then through the metadata of those calls your identity may be able to be ascertained.

We only change the sim every month in our burner phones and try to alternate providers. Should we change phone as well due to imei numbers? Do providers keep a record of imei numbers being assigned mobile numbers?

Hope someone might understand

Here is how it is done... first bitrefill - dot- com allows you to refill your prepaid number with bitcoin.

Burners w/ root access mostly on airplane mode unless being used to move money. Separate lines for separate folks. I strictly use Wickr. I think it's there best end to end communication application available.

Burners are a critrial aspect of any operation. Especially when using them wisely...
