Interesting how they're JUST NOW realizing this.

Incarcerating people for making a choice to alter their own personal, unique, perception of the human experience, should be viewed as a human rights violation. Thanks for the link brother.

In the UK, every political party promises to base the drug laws on expert opinion - until they are elected. They set up special commissions to investigate, then when they receive the results and recommendations from an expert group of healthcare specialists and top scientists, they ignore them.

When heroin was prescribed to addicts, they didn't commit any crime. A cancer patient wouldn't be forced to commit crime for their pain medication, so why an opioid addict? The pain they feel on withdrawal is just as real, and if you've been in a relationship with one you know they will do ANYTHING to avoid it, and their whole day has to be arranged around obtaining and using heroin before anything else can be planned.

I'm not asking for free meth prescriptions - if we don't get our drug, we just have a nice sleep. But opioid addicts undergo a terrible physical withdrawal, they would love to sleep. Recovery from benzo addiction is also very difficult, so Doctors shouldn't be limited in the help they can give.

Having a war against substances is almost as stupid as one against an emotion eg "Terror". I could never understand why so many Americans thought Texans were stupid. George Bush SENIOR seemed alright when he was president.

His son doesn't seem so bad now, does he? Compared to Donald Trump. Its like republicans haven't trusted anybody too intelligent since Richard Nixon became tricky.

I'm not expecting anything to come out of this (governments don't like to admit they made massive, life-changing mistakes that have probably cost millions of lives the world over) but for all the people in here who are interested in this, I have a hypothetical situation and question for you:

If your government legalised drugs (perhaps not all, but let's say the ones that WON'T make you eat your friends face) but insisted on every customer registering all their details so they could actively record how much you're buying and put limits in place so you could only buy a certain amount over a period of time, who here would sign up for such a program? Full details including fingerprints, verified address, and possibly DNA. You would probably also be the first stop for any crimes in your area, but you could defend against that easily by recording your every movement...

"Interesting how they're JUST NOW realizing this."

Perhaps they have finally run out of and/or come down from all the benzoz, booze and coke. Lol

They have the words come from their mouth, that doesn't mean they have realized it yet.

World leaders like DJ khaled....

But yeah, this are good news even in spite of the fact that this war will continue for at least another decade. Too much power at stake, too much to lose for something as trivial as "social issues" like some people put it. No need to hurry things!

That's a matter of perspective. It was not a disaster for those who benefited from it. I'd bet that its architects would say it was a smashing success.

So can someone answer me this? Lets say the government says 'ok the war on drugs has failed and we need to do something else.' Well then what happens? I mean, are they gonna have places to buy them or some shit? I mean what would they do?

[1 Points] chickeninthepot:

its about fuckin time for fucks sake get it together, Like a dog chasing there tail who finally decided to stop.

Ill believe it when i see some actual changes but its good to see that kind of stuff, it would be nice to see a day where people don't have to do jail time for getting high, Its really ridiculous if you think about :(

The UN convention on drug control is universal so this is the root that needs to be changed.. right! http://idpc.net/policy-advocacy/global-advocacy/global-drug-control-system/un-conventions-drug-control
