Interesting! I saw an article about politicians accepting bit coin donations, and one about hotels that plan to accept them for bookings on their site!

Old news and there hasn't really been follow up on it
I have not read the thread at /r/bitcoin. I only watched the video you linked.
My quick take is that we will all own flying cars long before the USPS enters the BTC exchange business. Yes, they have the outlets and licenses to practically turnkey into the business, but as of now Uncle Sam recognizes BTC simply as property subject to capital gains (and losses, I suppose but we will have to see).
In addition, top, middle, and lower level USPS management are civil service dinosaurs walking around with their original RazR flip phones. The greatest tech minds they have are incapable, even 11 years after launch, of operating their own website, which is the simplest of e-commerce tasks. If you are able to navigate the help sections and print postage 50% of the time, you are doing a lot better than their very brightest internal IT staff. The notion that they are capable of entering the complex world of digital currency any time this millennium is absolutely the most preposterous notion in the history of the universe.
I have had USPS career employees hanging around me like goiters and skin tags every day I wake up. They are forever in my life by way of in-laws, family and friends. For 45 years I have disgustedy watched and studied the very nature of these creatures. The ones that were not laid off have developed a keen focus only on the following activities and tasks during their work day.
Devising, documenting and litigating their fraudulent, personal workers’ comp and long-term disability schemes.
Carefully computation exactly how many months, days and seconds they have until their (nearly raped dry) pitiful pensions kick in.
Scheming among themselves, with participation of supervisors, a hidden, secret schedule that they create which assures that every individual takes every last second of comp time, sick time, lunch breaks, FMLA days, religious holidays, paid leave, bereavement time and every other Union contracted benefit won in the last 100 years that will allow them to work the least amount of time that they legally need to.
When their turn comes to put in a full 5 day work week it is spent falsifying time records of their co-workers who are "scheduled" to come late and leave early while half the branch/team are on vacation and or personal days. The 5 day, 30 hour workweeks are rotated around. When you are not the designated puppet master that week it is imperative you use 2 hours planning your next slip and fall and the other 2 hours.
At other times they reading and rumpling My Playboy and newspapers they have stolen directly from the carriers tray or snatched it long before reaching the sorting machines.
If it is mid month and the magazine pickings are slim all extra time is spent on complex plans to steal stamps and other items and convert them into cash before their complicit manager pretends he is doing an audit on your bank, but in reality is in the office masturbating while counting the seconds remaining in until the 4 hour shift ends.
When the time comes, they slither off in groups. One group heads to the OTB so they can try and parlay some of that stolen stamp money. Any day that finds their exit being delayed by more than 26 seconds is considered a sign of weakness and a personal failure.
4 hours day (which by tradition runs concurrently with a one hour lunch break staked with the shift breaks you forgot to take earlier. When nothing is left to do most return to planning their next staged slip and fall performance.
The attitude of the USPS civil servants in the 21st century has evolved to a bizarre Institutional culture steeped in deceit, fraud, incompetence, laziness, apathy and bad hygiene. Yes. I said bad hygiene. They seem to rarely shower and almost NEVER wipe properly after their 45 minute shit breaks they need to take at 9:02 am (with a FRESH magazine, of course!).
They have many other rituals and seedy practices in which they engage. I may cover some of this in a further post some day when I am sitting here waiting on a Pack and Ship page on USPS.com to shit forth the $1.93 label I have been trying to print for 6 hours because the site keeps timing out during the Paypal transaction. Somehow, MY $1.93 transaction can bring the entire United States Federal Postal System website to a complete stand still. Yet you guys make 10 new panic threads a day because your regular white envelope has not arrived in the 2 days since you ordered it. You panic as if Enforcement Resources were used to screen every letter sent to your Metro Area so they can pop you for 2 hits of shitty windowpane. Sigh.
Should I raise this subject again I will try and be less stoned and more sympathetic to you since those rc's they are calling acid these days will make you a waterhead before long and I draw the line at picking on mongoloids..
Soooo, If you ever wake up and find that USPS has actually entered the BTC business you need to be very fucking afraid. USPS will not be running the program. It will be the front an insidious, albeit historical enforcement action the likes of which has not been seen since Nazi Germany. If there are nefarious intentions in the announcement that USPS is considering entering the BTC business, it will mark the start of a global UC operation on a scale that not even Snowden could have imagined..
I actually don’t think they are planning any shenanigans. I say this because for the last 4 months I have been gripped with an intuitive fear (predilection?).
I strongly suspect that before the midterm elections it is probable that we wake up one day to discover that the scat had splatted hard on the ceiling fan slats. We will discover a shocking revelation that 60% of bigger vendors accounts and the entirety of staff at a major market have been data farms leading to a day where there are 4,000 simultaneous arrests in a monstrous global sweep that targets every buyer who so much has even downloaded the Tor Bundle. It is the only way they can ever win this war.
