Are you a successful addict?

In school we are being told that drugs will ruin your life, you will end dead on the side of the road eventually. Yet there are many people here that are addicts and having fully functional, normal lives. They work good jobs, family and what not.

Tell us your story of how you manage to combine your addiction with normal, happy life?
Pretty much an addict success story?

I'm in my sixties. I've smoked pot for forty five years, almost daily. I use recreational drugs whenever I have a day off- LSD, MDMA, ketamine, shrooms... anything. Coke from time to time, no more than three times a week.

Next week I'll go to a retirement dinner to celebrate the end of my career. There will be a few state-wide papers there, and it'll be a wonderful night. I'll be high as a kite, counting the minutes until I can go home and smoke a bowl. I'll put on the Rolex, accept the car, and no one will know I've been high at work at least twice a week since 1972.

I've watched my colleagues go and dry out, over and over. Pill poppers here and there. Through it all, I've taken one sick day.

I hate how much this sounds like bragging- but if you're looking for a successful addict, that'd be me.

I've been ordering a half ounce of coke nearly every month for almost a year. It's not all for myself, I share with friends and colleagues and I don't know if I fall under the category of "addict" since I don't feel that I NEED to use. I only use on nights out (pretty much every weekend) and when friends are having people together for whatever reason.

I'm not filthy rich but I guess I consider myself successful. I live by myself comfortably in a 2b2b townhome, I drive a decent car (CLA 250, OK so it's on the lower-end of Benz but whatever...). Now I can't go around buying everything I want impulsively but I can afford to have some nice things here and there. Oh and I'm in my late 20s.

So yeah, I believe I could be considered a "successful addict" if you consider me an addict.

As always your mileage may vary.

I've been an opioid user for 20 years. Almost 15 years of daily use ( have had short periods of non use like a month here and there). Have a business, demanding career, family, stay at home wife and a good life style. Career wise have been always upwards and onwards. Drugs have never sidelined me or gotten in the way of life. For me opioids are an accompaniment to life. I don't sit around doing nothing. I get a boost of energy from opioids so it fits in well with a busy schedule.

Again it's possible to do it. But each of us are different. What works for me might not work for you.

I've done drugs probably 80% of days or more since I was ten years old. Used well over a hundred different things. I'm very deeply addicted to drug use, but no substance in particular. I work for myself online, make a comfortable enough living doing very little work, and get high daily. Have a fiance I've seen for close to four years now. Aside from a dui no drug related legal issues. Since adulthood no family issues over my drug use.

I chock it all up to being a polydrug user tbh. Keep your interests varied and don't go too deep into one or two things and you'll probably come out on top

If you don't let drugs take over your life you are a recreational drug user.

Was successful for 20yrs then I lost my career due to something stupid I did on Xanax + cola. If it weren't for Xanax id still be making several hundred usd/year and doing lines off of strippers asses.
