electrum- only one transaction at a time?

So i have plenty of btc left after making a tiny purchase that is still unconfirmed (even though i paid a decent fee). Anyway, electrum won't let me make a subsequent purchase(s) until that tiny transaction is confirmed, even though i have way more than enough to make my next purchase. The way my fee is set-up it almost always confirms within a few mins (since i've been using electrum), so I haven't run into this problem. Is there a work around? or is this an inevitable consequence of how btc transaction/wallets work? I realize I can turn fee bar all the way up, but I'm looking for a different solution...I already pay waaaay too much in fees!

If you have change addresses set up, it can do this. What happens is all your coin gets sent in the transaction and the remainder of what you're not spending then gets sent back to you. It's like if you go to a store and buy something for $15 - you can't just rip a $20 bill in pieces and hand the cashier part of it; instead, they give you a $5 bill in return to balance out the transaction. The reason your remaining coins are not spendable at the moment is because that original tx has not yet confirmed.

That’s strange because as long as there is a transaction showing - even unconfirmed - you should be able to spend coins as long as you have enough in there. I’ve done this plenty of time. Get that “unconfirmed parent” warning when I do that. I also have sent unconfirmed coin when my fee was too low and do the whole parent pays for child thing.

There might be a setting about not letting unconfirmed transactions be spent but it is def possible. Do it all the time. Does the wallet show the unconfirmed coin? If electrum doesn’t and isn’t fully synchronized then it wouldn’t work.
