Russia offers over $100,000 to de-anonymize Tor

So its the new national sport now?

http://rt.com/news/175408-russia-internet-tor-service/

Russia's Interior Ministry is offering $111k for a technological solution that would allow police officers to identify internet surfers who are using the TOR anonymizer network, which has been rapidly growing in popularity inside the country.

The official Tender:

(Looks at watch)

Looks like its about that time to begin development of TOR's successor.

I guess thats kind of re-assuring though in a way... that the governments own technical bunch can not, maybe they are just calling everyones bluff.

So why don't those dudes from Carnegie Mellon, whose black hat de-anonymizing conference was cancelled, do it? They were going to use $3,000 dollars to show how to de-anonoymize tor on a budget and now they can make some dough

Russia can stick its filthy corruption money up its butt.

A hundred thousand!? Let's assume it's possible in a complete and total loss of security way, and not in the Java and/or node exploits ways that have already been proven to work on careless users since I'm guessing that's what Russia wants, since they surely already know about the known exploits. If it were possible, the discoverer wouldn't need to collect Russia's bounty, that person would be able to demand anything and governments would pay it. One hundred thousand dollars is an insulting number for something of this magnitude, because breaking Tor means breaking the rest of the internet as online transactions(among many other things) are kept secure using the same principles that would be broken by this.

Alternatively, Russia just wants an easy exploit, in which case I'd advise someone sent them a copy of the white paper on Java exploits and collect the money.

What Id its already de anonymized and they do this to make people have a false sense of security

the NSA with its blackbudget as far as we no cant do that, thats a joke surely

Russia's FSB could torture...um I mean ask Snowden if he can blow more whistles about TOR.
