What was the deep web before Bitcoin?

The farmers market, the first real darknet market used clearnet payment methods, bank trans, PayPal, WU, Ukash etc

There were these cards you could buy at a gas station that you could put cash into, send someone the code, and they could go to a gas station and cash then. They were anonymous too I believe.

Tons of private forums, Drugbuyers.com was open, overseas.com is still open, cash in the mail, farmers market, OVDB was the board that went down as soon as silk road opened. Lots of green dot cards, cash in the mail and western union. We did still use tor the smart ones we used gpg and pidgin the dumb ones used gmail but most stuff came from over seas unless u were on a private forum. Things have changed a lot!

The deep web is not the same as the darknet.
The deep web refers to anything that is at least one layer removed from being able to just type in a site address and go right to it. Technically, whenever you enter a password to get into your email or Facebook, you're on the deep web.

Topix and WU haha :/
The invention of Bitcoin and TOR allowed the markets as we know them to become a thing. I am sure before that drugs were still sent in the mail, email orders would of been the way to go.
I always find it funny how PGP and TOR were used mainly by the military and are now used by everybody for everything illegal.
