What are the chances LE took over EIC?

It seems pretty strange they went down suddenly when the admins were on holiday (aka locked up), now comes back but no fix on the withdraw issues. If they had server issues, they would fix the issues before launching don't you think? I am not against EIC, i used them some times before they went down and never had problems, i had no coins on there so no loss for me.

The FBI did the same with the pedo site recently came to light, now EIC is next. PGP encryption!!

edit: does anyone knows the rules about LE agencies being allowed to seize an ilegal server and say something in the name of the admins? As in 'no problems it was because of XXXXXXX'?

Admins simply fucking off for 2 weeks is just not on. And given the excellent level of support they gave before disappearing, its so completely out of character that there's no way I'm trusting them with anything, PGP or not. I hope Outlaw gets their UI sorted soon - I really want them to be the next big thing.

Regarding your edit: yes, if LE had the server they could put any content they please, including (but not limited to) admin messages.

[6 Points] coffeencreme:

Put it this way...nobody loved EIC more than me, and I'm not even logging in.

It may be that the admins were just on holiday and have come back (although that's not OK, particularly without letting people know and giving them a chance to get their coins back etc) and reopened - but as someone else said, if it's not that we won't know until a year and a half down the line.

I'm staying away - it may be nothing, or it could be something.

I wouldn't even trust a PGP signed message because if the market has been compromised good chance their PGP keys are as well to.

To answer your question about whether the FBI can run sites that they take over: yes, they can, and they can infect visitors with malware as well. The tl;dr version of that article is that the FBI got permission from a federal magistrate to run the Metasploit Decloaking Framework on a CP site that they seized. The Metasploit Decloaking Framework is a tool that uses Flash to get a Tor user's real IP address.

This message comes up when i try to login now: East India Company East India Company is currently offline The hidden service is either under maintenance or undergoing routine migration to a new location.

Bigger question: why does this matter? This is the darknet. Almost all of these darknet markets could have been started by LE for all we know. Don't trust your security and anonymity with someone you don't know running a market somewhere you don't know in some country you don't know. If everyone used PGP, it wouldn't even matter if all of the markets were run by LE.

[2 Points] CandyKoloredKlown:

I've been wondering the same. I think I'll stay away for now.

I look at it this way:

After Operation Onymous, LE were high fiving themselves thinking they put a huge dent on the DNMs like never before. The fact that the DNMs are doing just fine (subjective), and there is still a HUGE market for illegal drugs on the dark net means that they will go further and harder to try to bring it all down. LE is bitter like that. So no, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if EIC is a honeypot. Personally, I'd stay the hell away.

[2 Points] y_s_l_:

Has there been any PGP signed comms from EIC? It's possible LE seized the servers, but haven't arrested the people actually running the site (yet).

[1 Points] maniahck:

Could be true, but i would wait for a message from the market

[1 Points] The__Hans:

As far as I know this would be the first time an Law Enforcement Organisation would have done this. I’d rather explain this by personell problems. I assume markets only consist of a handful of teammembers. If one or two crucial members have some kind of problems almost everything breaks.

That post on their subreddit with the fake pgp signed message could've been a bad attempt by LE to make it seem like the downtime was legit...

[1 Points] ancap47:

What are the odds that it was a government op all along?

[1 Points] None:

Probably just as likely that Abraxas was taken over by LE

Atleast 75%.

[1 Points] powerman15:

If they were legit coming back the very first thing they would do is cancel every order and just let everyone withdraw their money.

[1 Points] starbucksmoney:

Still no withdraw since EIC came up, Hope everything is OK

[1 Points] None:

LE isn't the ones who took it over it was Isis

[1 Points] Molly-Cyrus:

Whats a pedo?

[1 Points] Molly-Cyrus:

IDK but censorship sucks

[1 Points] Satoshi-:

Either they took it, or they didn't. Not knowing any other variables or possibilities, i'd say 50/50.

[1 Points] None:

Very probable. They brought the site back up to excite people and rush in and withdraw coins. If LE compromised EIC, they can scrape and analyze all addresses that attempted withdrawal with blockchain analysis, and probably associate them with either an account on a BTC exchange or an IP address.

[0 Points] reddit_lurker242:

Too many market admins these days are leaving up identifying posts. I wouldn't be surprised if that's how EIC got shutdown.

I found one of the first mentions of Agora on the internet by time searching they're oldest domain. It was a fourm post by someone using they're regular account, wonder if the FBI's ever gonna subpoena that.

AFAIK, European LEO are bound to the "rule of law", which also means they are neither allowed to commit a crime, nor to witness a crime without taking action. Not even to prevent another, bigger crime in the long run. That's why you can hardly find a European counterpart for undercover agents. edit: spelling

[0 Points] lordredvampire:

Did the admin signed his message? I heard he did. Maybe the LE made him do it, who knows.

[0 Points] itsbooming:

Does you lose any money when the pedo site went down?

I guess you could argue entrapment or something, but I'd be amazed if you'd get off on that. You'd have a hard time proving it anyways, even if it is illegal for them to do it.
