The US Government is purposefully trying to corporatize the postal system by bankrupting USPS :(

Very informative video. this is horrible news for the future of the DNMs. What do you guys think about all this? Discuss

EDIT: For those that don't want to watch the entire thing, basically this:

The USPS has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s with the minor exception of subsidies for costs associated with the disabled and overseas voters.[5] Since the 2006 all-time peak mail volume,[6] after which Congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act,[7] (which mandated $5.5 billion per year to be paid into an account to fully prefund both employee retirement health and pension benefits, a requirement exceeding that of other government and private organizations [8]), revenue dropped sharply due to recession-influenced[9] declining mail volume,[10] prompting the postal service to look to other sources of revenue while cutting costs to reduce its budget deficit.[11] The USPS lost US$ 5 billion in 2013, and its revenue was US$ 66 billion.

I'm on mobile so I can't watch the video until I get home. In the meantime can someone ELI5 why privatizing mail service is a bad thing comparable to a dystopian country?

[2 Points] RaginMoose:

It's not hard to understand why the USPS runs a deficit each year. Don't worry, where there is a will there is a way. People will figure out another way if it comes to that.

[3 Points] hugsfordrugs:

More people need to read the book "1984" by George Orwell and understand that we're already halfway to the dystopia predicted. Read that along with "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury and "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, and you'll get a good picture at where our world is rapidly heading.

EDIT: Not trying to make some paranoid, delusional equation here. Just on my own little tangent and those are some great books by very intelligent minds, one of which was also a respected psychonaut himself. Read the books before you try to read into what I'm saying.

[2 Points] None:

How would this be bad for Darknetmarkets? People use USPS and Fedex all the time. In fact, I use them to ship booze to my friends without worrying about getting pinched for sending it through the mail.

[1 Points] dopelessfopefiend:

It's not exceptionally hard to use mail services to send drugs. Been there done that. I used to think it was safer than Canada post/USPS :P

Hahaha RT, the Kremlin controlled media station doing a "Brainwash Update". God I hate TV news.

[1 Points] forwhombagels:

You forgot the fact that the USPS loaned the US government over 7 billion dollars in the 90's, of which they have paid back exactly 0 cents.

in the UK they just sold the post office so now thats privately owned. I havent noticedd the difference - either way they still have an incentive to deliver the package. postal prices could rise
