Does anyone browse this subreddit without Tor?

I'm one of those guys that just reads this shit, and has no plans to order from the darknet. So I just browse this place every single day with literally no attempt to conceal my activity, on my phone and at home. I assume that might flag me in some way, but at this point I'm in pretty deep. I found out about this shit the fucking DAY after the Evo exit scam, purely by luck. I've been glued to it ever since. Your stories and reviews and dialogues are seriously fucking fascinating. So thanks for that and best of luck to you all.

I pay a homeless guy a bottle of vodka everyday to make my posts for me at the library.

[72 Points] assrocket:

I don't use Tor. Wtf, I don't drink, quit smoking, had the same job for 18 years, owned a house for 10+, date the same girl for 10+ years etc. If the NSA screws me for reading thus sub then this country is truly fucked.

[53 Points] agoradsuxxx:

I have a piece of tape over my laptop camera, do you think that helps?

It doesn't make u a criminal to search public spaces on the Internet.

[25 Points] SIDKITTEH:

Wait they sell drugs here? I thought this was a farmers market.

Memorial Day weekend. The public pools are open and everyone starts to SWIM!

Lololololol

Reddit disclosed how many LE requests for user information they've complied with, and while I cannot really be fucked looking for links atm, the numbers were pretty tiny.

If you're a vendor or you admit to dealing or having information that could directly be helpful to the bad guys with their investigations, you should obviously be more careful. Otherwise you're just a poster on a mostly legal discussion forum.

It's possible your reddit posting history could come up if you're ever arrested but it would be after they physically have your PC because you fucked up some other way. Not that better security wouldn't still help you in this scenario, it might, but assess your own risk.

We're all going to jail

[11 Points] Im_A_Steam_Shovel:

I've never felt more connected to this Sub than I do right now.

[13 Points] stir_fried_abortion:

I assume that might flag me in some way,

I'm continually amazed at how many people believe that various activities will get them "flagged."

As if there's some great government Department of Flagging.

I browse it from a VPN all of the time.

Try not to hit it without at least that.

Sure. I'm not doing anything illegal. Free speech mothafucka

I run bare assed naked clearnet on here. I see no reason to be paranoid.

This comment has been overwritten by an open source script to protect my privacy.

If you would like to do the same, add the browser extension TamperMonkey for Chrome (or GreaseMonkey for Firefox) and add this open source script.

Then simply click on your username on Reddit, go to the comments tab, and hit the new OVERWRITE button at the top.

[3 Points] Ser__Ocelot:

Yup

[3 Points] None:

Yea, a lot of the time I browse on here without tor, on my phone, desktop and laptop. I've posted once on here with my main in the fucked up fridays thread, so nothing more incriminating than what people post on /r/trees or /r/drugs but other than that every time I post on here is through at least tor, but right now I'm on tor and tails.

[3 Points] Tripple_T:

Constantly. Probably the only thing I do in this subreddit from tails is write reviews

[2 Points] newfaceinhell:

me too.

[2 Points] prelyt:

I have left reddit for a reddit alternative due to years of admin mismanagement and preferential treatment for certain subreddits and users holding certain political and ideological views.

The situation has gotten especially worse since the appointment of Ellen Pao as CEO, culminating in the seemingly unjustified firings of several valuable employees and bans on hundreds of vibrant communities on completely trumped-up charges.

The resignation of Ellen Pao and the appointment of Steve Huffman as CEO, despite initial hopes, has continued the same trend.

As an act of protest, I have chosen to redact all the comments I've ever made on reddit, overwriting them with this message.

If you would like to do the same, install TamperMonkey for Chrome, GreaseMonkey for Firefox, NinjaKit for Safari, Violent Monkey for Opera, or AdGuard for Internet Explorer (in Advanced Mode), then add this GreaseMonkey script.

Finally, click on your username at the top right corner of reddit, click on the comments tab, and click on the new OVERWRITE button at the top of the page. You may need to scroll down to multiple comment pages if you have commented a lot.

After doing all of the above, you are welcome to join me on a reddit alternative!

I started lurking here as research for a novel. I stayed for the amazing stories.

[2 Points] bo0zer:

i go to starbucks, boot up tails, and use a vpn to browse this sub

[2 Points] mootmeep:

I don't really care. It's not like I'm on the DNM, I just like to keep updated on what's happening, and it's kind of an interesting topic for a lot of people.

[2 Points] None:

Only if I have created a makeshift Tor using Proxychains to link together a series of privately controlled servers, which is never.

[2 Points] william_junior:

I do use tor. Even if I don't order anything and don't even possess or shift any coins.

But I want my ISP to get used to me using tor, so that nobody's going to be surprised the day I might really need it. Want to become acquainted with the technology and its pitfalls. And want to add to the crowd necessary for others to provide cover.

When acquiring and using all the good tools only in case of emergency you become susceptible to failure.

[2 Points] GrandWizardsLair:

The Grand Wizard knows of only one case where LE served subpoenas on /r/darknetmarkets users. A few "hackers" claimed to have information regarding the identity of Evo's admins and at least one communicated with /u/gwern: 5-0 sought IP addresses and other identifying information connected to those accounts.

ATGWUI Reddit has a policy of notifying users about any subpoenas or requests for information from law enforcement or other sources. It is possible that they might be prohibited from notifying a target through a gag order or similar proceeding, but that is not Reddit SOP. And given the profile and urgency of the incident in question -- Evo's admins had just skipped town with a large pile of satoshis and were busy erasing any incriminating evidence -- we can assume that these gag orders are not that easy to get nor are they handed out lightly. And while it is possible that there have been other subpoenas that the targets did not mention, it is not likely that there have been a whole lot of other arrests related to /r/darknetmarkets.

That being said: if you are a vendor or a bulk buyer you absolutely should be using TOR when on this subreddit. Looking through the SR1 court papers it appears that a couple of smaller vendors (Trustus Jones and Alllove) were compromised and used by law enforcement. The Grand Wizard remembers both of these vendors selling bitcoins and strongly suspects they were picked up as low-hanging fruit. Leaving your home IP address on postings where you talk about your drug dealing is a stupid mistake that could come back to bite you even if you think you're too small to attract police attention. And if you're using DNMs in any capacity you already have TOR set up on your machine -- so why not take advantage of the extra safety?

tl/dr: even if you don't need TOR it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it...

[1 Points] drugsaremyfriend:

If I'm posting I use TOR. If I just browse I don't.

[1 Points] Gakster:

Of course, I don't do anything illegal.

[1 Points] BejeweledCarrot:

same lol

[1 Points] mad87645:

Yep, all the time. Browsing and posting here isn't illegal, just be careful about what you say exactly.

[1 Points] antonivs:

I assume that might flag me in some way

Nobody cares. You don't needed to worry, unless you want to because it makes you feel important.

[1 Points] indreamsbegin:

Ohh hella YAS, I spend a ridiculous amount of time at work reading this sub on my phone, and when I'm home I just treat it as any ol' website, no TOR. Because..fuck tha man!

BTW, I've been ordering stuffs from the markets for a good while without any LE intervention, so I guess I'm okay. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[1 Points] gorillaprocessor:

yeah i do, it's the best legal rush! CI's never check posting history before chasing off on some wild goose chase, and all their resources are made of funny-money! durgs terrorism bomb enbgland tomorrow!!! look at the numbers fly!

[1 Points] I_Say_MOOOOOOOOOOOOO:

What's TOR?

[1 Points] DNMShopper:

"I'm one of those guys that just reads this shit, and has no plans to order from the darknet."

-------- Translation --------

"My package hasn't arrived, I am scared shitless, I should post on reddit about how I don't buy drugs b/c LE has my internet tapped & the SWIM doesnt work anymore."

[1 Points] iAlpha700:

I always use Tor for everything.

[1 Points] Soundless_Pr:

same here op. Good stuff. Sometimes I give advice to noobs though because I used to be into it.

[1 Points] JackPAnderson:

I don't order from DNM, so I really don't give a shit if the NSA knows I read this sub.

But for those that do order, and talk about it here, you are publicly announcing that you broke the law. In that case, using Tor and a single-purpose reddit account certainly couldn't hurt.

[1 Points] Jagjamin:

Only on clearnet. I don't even do drugs, (Doesn't help that work has unannounced random testing), so if for some bizarre reason they care, they search my house, find nothing, test me, find nothing. I'd love to be an example of why they shouldn't try.

[1 Points] madcuntmcgee:

If someone wants to put me on a list for simply taking an interest in this, then they can go fuck themselves. I'm not modifying my behaviour to appease them and it isn't illegal to browse reddit.

[1 Points] mattarse:

yep, this is my normal account. Hardly ever comment here, but read it yes.

[1 Points] None:

Yeah , browse out here on chrome through a normal connection.

[1 Points] WonkyWarrior:

I really don't give a fuck, I'm a bundle of MXE emotions.

[1 Points] curly1022:

I don't participate in the darknet market, but I really enjoy reading what everyone has to say about it. I've learned a ton of stuff from the people here.

[1 Points] Mustaka:

Yup - I do not buy or sell so have nothing to worry about. I just find it an interesting sub to follow.

[1 Points] review0account:

right now..

[1 Points] None:

I do. Then again I'm not involved in the markets. I just like reading about you guys. It's been pretty dramatic lately!

[1 Points] nwo_platnum_member:

It was a default sub briefly, like a month ago. Which means it was on the front page and every redditor was reading this sub. I always make my accounts using Tor, so at least they don't have my IP from signup.

[1 Points] darknetpotter:

I use TOR, but mostly because I want my IP to get used to me running TOR rather than being able to track it to the specific times just before an order. If I'm always running TOR and my order gets siezed I can claim I often use it just for privacy.

[1 Points] None:

Tor is outdated. You need to download SWIM Browser Bunde.

[1 Points] None:

Not only am I not using tor to browse here, but reddit wont work for me without javascript enabled. Maybe theres a way to make it work, but it doesnt for me. And javascript is a bad idea when you are trying to be anonymous. If theres a javascript on reddit that somehow de-anonymizes you (Which is possible, but is probably not being intentionally done by reddit intentionally), it might de-anonymize your tor traffic for that session. Furthermore, if you ever use this reddit account through clearnet, you are potentially linking your reddit ID and your IP and your darknet activities together.

There's a button in the tor browser to change your tor circuit/identity. I would suggest using that button in between your redditing and your darknet marketing.

I may or may not be a vendor on the darknet, i may or may not access /r/darknetmarkets with other reddit accounts through tor, i may or may not be DPR himself. You'll never know!

[1 Points] None:

Do the feds browse this sub and others for info? Probably.

Do they care that /u/bigtimedrugdealer posts and advertises here? I'd say so.

Do they care that /u/candyraver420 successfully bought a gram of mdma from Germany? Probably not.

[1 Points] Traxx187:

same i just read

[1 Points] fuckoffplsthankyou:

I never browse reddit without using Tor.

[1 Points] J0NJ0NES:

There's a high degree of misunderstanding about anonymity and Tor. Reddit requires javascript if you want to post, and if you've enabled scripts in the Tor browser or the browser in TAILS, then you're not as anonymous as you may think.

It would take a high degree of technical proficiency to be anonymous with scripts turned on. Every time a webserver serves you a page, you could be getting a different set of scripts, which even makes reviewing the source futile unless you plan on doing it every time you receive a page. Not feasible.

The bottom line is that your user account on Reddit shouldn't be associated in anyway with anything illegal. You need to have total and absolute delineation between your public profile(s) and any profile you may be using for illegal activity. That's just common sense.

Of course, that's only if you're into doing illegal things. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that I'm only here out of curiosity/ideology/entertainment and not out of an interest in committing crimes.

[1 Points] COBRAws:

I simply browse from the local library, it's pretty safe and never had an issue buying!

[1 Points] iwanteditsobad:

Yeah I do. And I don't really care.

[1 Points] AnCap_Rising:

I want them to see me browsing this subred. They can kick rocks. I am a free market advocate and if they haven't figured that out now then the state is even more inefficient than I though.

[0 Points] None:

Tor is for pussies

[0 Points] Doglover1987:

Why would you give a fuck if you don't use the markets? I don't use the markets and simply browsing for the lols. do you honestly think le cares you browse a public message board ? Some of yall gotta be autistic I swear it
