Gotta comment on this. I knew one of the defendants. Before DNM, the guy gets busted getting packs through the mail, CD... they bust his operation wide open. Found ALL KINDS of stuff in his place, he was looking at 20+ years for sure, massive quantities....
Anyway, my phone rings years after he goes away, and he says "have you heard about the drug lab chemist?" ... I can't believe it's him. I had to ask him a few times to talk, I hadn't talked to the guy in years.
Anyway, he was looking at 20+ years, and his lawyer called him one day, and he went in front of a judge and was sprung the next day. It happened that quick. Can you imagine looking at that amount of time and then suddenly you're out in 3-4 years?
I cannot imagine a more unlikely gift from above... and I also find it odd that a single chemist would undo so many cases. The evidence is surely catalogged and could be tested again? I guess they just look at the whole case as being tainted at that point.
