Stamps without marks

How often do yall get packages that have un-marked stamps

I got four forever stamps that were umarked yesterday, so I peeled them off. I also found a 5.75 priority stamp unmarked once.

Mostly machine-sortable letters and small, flat packages get the auto cancellation marks against the postage. The larger packages, irregular shapes, non-flat, etc. often get hand-sorted, and usually don't get the cancellation of the postage, since it's very time consuming for hundreds of packages per hour.

Quite a few. I once got a pack that the postmark over the stamp was before the date I actually ordered it. That was a head scratcher.

It happens a lot especially on Priority Mail boxes. Put a couple drops of some "goof off" on them and they peel right off. Use a glue stick when you re-use them. Also, using your full 9 digit zipcode may avoid hand sorting and packages may get to you quicker(with uncancelled stamps).

I honestly thought you were asking about the .1 gram heroin bags that usually have some kind of branding on them. I almost feel dirty right now because apparently nobody else in the thread thought that.

I don't even check postage marks on my mail. I don't send mail out often enough for this to be a concern of mine.

im thinking that there may be UV or IR ink cancellation marks. invisible to the naked eye, but easily read by a sorting machine. maybe that is paranoia, but i thought i heard it somewhere. next pack i get with unmarked stamps, ill run under a black light.
