Counter Fraud Expert/Dev AMA

Edit 2: I'm off guys, got to give the missus some attention. Thanks for all the questions and answers, stay safe and cool guys. If anyone has anything else later just drop me a pm.

Edit 1: Just a thanks to everyone that's contributed or asked a question so far, it's been cool doing this. I'll be around for a few more hours and then I have to dash but always feel free to pm me.

I work for a large legal firm that offers a substantial fraud detection service. I'm the lead developer on the project (so I can answer IT stuff too) but I also go out to see clients to push the service, and prototype new ways to catch you naughty people.

Without going into too much detail about the service, it's similar to what Snowden said about there being a search engine for people. With our service you can search a person/place/time/car/house/phone number/facebook/twitter profile etc and it will show you how that entity relates to other entities, and gives you a score of how likely that thing is involved with, or is in itself fraudulent.

Common rules apply, hopefully I can provide some insight.

Oh, and for the record, don't try and scam CC's or anything that makes the bank directly lose money, it is just not even remotely worth it.

First question is why are you doing an AMA with the very people you are trying to catch?

Going on alpha shows the stolen credit card business is booming. Why do you say it's not even remotely worth it? I was under the impression that banks had a very low rate of catching these fraudsters (the people stealing the funds not the vendors who sell them) when done correctly.

Is this system able to make connections without input? Does it continually scour data to look for patterns and alert you to possible fraud?

whats the most you can deposit at a bank without arousing suspicion?

Most common ways internet fraudsters slip up and get caught?

[2 Points] Someone-Who-Is-Meat:

Will they ever issue a State ID/drivers license that will contain some technology that cannot be duplicated by your average relatively sophisticated CC fraud guy. that's a huge part of what they do as far as making the cards. its a real specialty figuring out ways to do the foils and the raised signatures and holograms and whatever. I wonder what kind of tech could be on the horizon of this race between the authorities and the scammers.

Do you buy 'services' or shit in AB just to see how it works, so you know how to protect against it?

[1 Points] NODestructionF:

Is this service you work with by any chance the software suite called Maltego? Or have you worked with Maltego? They sound very similar.
