Why a phone number on ATMs for BTC?

Why do they ask for a phone number when you purchase BTC on ATMs and is there any way around this? Currently using Local BitCoins for a clear net wallet. Does the phone number get linked to the BTC / blockchain to prevent anonymity?

In case you want to do something bad such as buy drugs with your bitcoins, they want to know.

Buy burner. Use burner. Throw away burner.

Some other people are commenting about some kind of app. That probably works too.

My ATM doesnt ask for shit. No phone number, nothing (Unless you are buying 900<$ worth of BTC)

not all atms do that. look for those that don't require phone numbers. i know lamassu machines don't require any information and they don't have a camera either. check to see if there's any in your area.

Any traced transaction can be corrected by transfer to burner wallets
