A Santa Monica man is accused of selling large amounts of Ecstasy and Xanax to customers in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Ryan Tallmadge, 31, was stopped by detectives Oct. 4 in Thousand Oaks following a two-month investigation by Ventura County's prescription drug task force, police said. According to a police report, Tallmadge had 1,700 Xanax pills and about a half-ounce of MDMA (aka Ecstasy) inside his vehicle at the time.
A subsequent search of his Santa Monica residence produced another 10,264 Xanax pills, around 5 ounces of MDMA and a large amount of cash, police said. The estimated street value of the drugs is more than $70,000.
Detective Corey Nicholas of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said investigators don't know how the suspect acquired such a large amount of prescription medication. Nicholas said that most likely it was bought on the dark web from sellers in India, Pakistan and China.
"We haven't found out for sure but I'm assuming he ordered it from out of the country," Nicholas said. "Based on the quantities and types, that's my best guess so far."
The Ventura County district attorney's office is charging Tallmadge with two counts of possession of drugs for sale. On the Ecstasy charge alone, he's looking at a maximum of three years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted
Tallmadge was released from custody Oct. 7.
Love how they're still trying to pin it on India and China lol
