"Private" posts ain't private.

The following is a reprint from a "Daily News" article from Febuary 2018.

"'Private' posts aint"

"Albany- New York's Top Court ruled Tuesday that private Facebook posts aren't so private when it comes to the use of evidence in trials."

"In a unanimous decision the Court of Appeals ruled that social media posts, even those deemed private, are still subject to New York's rules of Discovery and can be obtained as evidence so long as they are "material and necessary" to the case."

"While Facebook -and sites like it- offer relatively new means of sharing information with others, there is nothing so novel about Facebook materials that precludes application of New York's long-standing disclosure rules." Court of appeals chief judge Janet Di-Fore wrote in her decision."

"The case marks the first time that New York's highest court had addressed the issue of discovery of Facebook content."

End of article. While this is nothing new, I wanted to share it as a friendly reminder to keep your guard up. My take on this is dont share anything on Reddit that could incriminate you. I'm torn between choosing a response of 'duh,' 'who thought it was,' or a very-sarcastic 'no kidding.' But, as you say, it's a friendly reminder. ;)
