I decided to create this to aid the new wave of people discovering Monero and that many have no clue how to verify their download properly. Today I'll show you an easy way of doing so! I'll include multiple ways of viewing this to suit everyone.
1. First you'll need to go to https://getmonero.org/downloads/ , we'll be downloading the 32 bit version. Qubes-Whonix users will need to download the 64 bit version. Be sure to save the file under user for easy access later.

2. Now we need to get the PGP key to verify the hashes. For this we need to navigate to the github repository under /utils/gpg_keys/fluffypony.asc and copy the key.
3. Easy Image Upload-Onion|DanWin1210-Onion|DanWin1210-i2p|DanWin1210-Clearnet|Linx.li-Clearnet|ZippyShare.com-Clearnet
3. Import into KGpg by using the clipboard import function.

4. Now we verify the hashes found on https://getmonero.org/downloads/hashes.txt . Copy & paste the message into a KGpg text file and click verify. Ensure everything is verifying properly.

5. Now we need to generate the sha256 sum for the file we've downloaded using 'sha256sum NAME_OF_FILE.tar.bz2'

6. Then we compare the sums by copying them into a text file and visually compare. Regular Whonix users use the sum for x86 (32bit) and Qubes users use the x64 (64bit) sum.

7. If everything verifies then congratulations you have an authentic file! We can now extract the file with right click & begin the installation process

8. Open the extracted folder and click start-gui.sh. Select your language and if applicable, method of wallet generation. Name your wallet and copy the seed.

9. Save your seed somewhere safe. Preferably not in plain text on the same system. The shown method is not recommended but merely an example.

10. A more secure method is generating a database using KeepassX which can be installed using 'sudo apt-get install keepassx'. Create a strong database password, the longer the better, try to aim for at least 30 characters. The password shown was just for demonstration purposes.

11. Generate a new entry and fill in the fields respectively. At this point we are going to generate a secure password for our wallet. I used 40 characters but you can use up to 64. Make sure to save after your entry is created.

12. Paste in your password and start the wallet. The daemon will automatically start and begin syncing a full node. Full nodes are more secure but if you can't run one then follow the guide here https://getmonero.org/resources/user-guides/remote_node_gui.html to connect to a remote node.

Back up your databases and seeds in encrypted locations!
You should be running Whonix on a encrypted Linux system not connected to you in anyway!
People would probably be better off with using the cli.
