Hi everyone I am in a pickle here with my Tails OS persistence partition and hope someone can help me. I will gladly pay some bitcoin to anyone who can figure this out for me if need be.
So to start off I will say that I am using the latest version of Tails 2 and everything has been working fine in terms of my persistence partition but today I ran into a serious problem.
I loaded up my Tails and entered my persistence password, as usual the OS loaded as it should but when I looked in my persistent folder I noticed everything was gone. I had this happen to me before on Tails 1 before the update to 2 and I was able to fix it simply by going to the "configure tails installer" tool and re-selecting the items I use in persistence and after a simple reboot the files would re-appear but it did not work this time. I looked at the folder where the files would normally be and it is empty. I tried using the copy persistence tutorial on the Tails website to manually copy the persistence files to a new persistence volume on a new Tails OS USB but when I mounted the old USB persistence drive volume successfully the files were still not showing. After trying this mounting the partition to a new fresh TAILS os USB I realized that something went wronger even further... Now I when I plug the original USB with the partition files that are supposed to have my files, it is not even asking me to enter persistence password anymore on Tails boot. When I log in and go to DISKS utility it still has the partition in there but it is labeled as UNKNOWN now instead of LUKS like it used to. When I click "configure tails installer" tool now it gives me an error "persistence volume is not unlocked".
Please help I have no idea what to do now and I am really devastated to lose all my sensitive files. I was planning to do a backup on the weekend and this happened to me at the worst possible time.
hey check this file location for anything. let me know. so open a window, like home or something. then press Ctrl+L a bar will appear kinda like an address bar in a browser. paste this location into it
you should find folders here storing everything you asked persistence to remember. these files are automatically placed in the correct location upon decrypting the partition on boot up. if nothing is in that location press Ctrl+h to show hidden files & folders. if still nothing, something must have happened to the partition.
