Mr. Big technique

So apparently in Canada there was a technique for cold case files mostly where they would aprouch a subject in a bar and talk shit, the cop would act like he is involved in the underworld and try and get the subject to try and impress them, finally they tell them they wanna work together but he's got to admit his crime. Damn Canada I thought y'all were friendly

I think this is illegal now

Someone watched the confession tapes. Ya it was a pretty fucked up controversial technique and I can't believe those 2 kids are going to spend the rest of their lives in prison being convicted with this technique.

Oh no this still happens. I heard a case about a pedophile in Australia where they full on convinced him he was apart of a crime gang. Complete shit talk. 6 months later after "working through the ranks" of this fake ass gang, the leader of the gang (aka a UC detective) got him to confess to murdering this school boy and showing them where the body was. I CBA with link (like I know y'all will ask) but it's the Daniel Macorbe case. It's very famous over there. Anyway the fucking pedo is now locked up due to Mr Big style detective work.

Guys this is Shit Post Saturday not Sit-Com Saturday. mmmkay?

They use it everywhere. In Australia it solved one of our biggest cold cases, that of Missing Boy 'Daniel Morcombe': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Peter_Cowan

BTW if The Canadian Case from Ep 1 + 2 of Netflix's Confession Tapes spiked your interest, do yourself a favour and watch the 48 hrs take on it: Its way more balanced and has way more convincing testimony that shows just how much a psychopath the one dude was. It convinced me of his guilt. The part where the 2 laugh about the autistic daughter walking around during the mayhem not knowing what was going on and they just laughed whilst bludgeoning the parents. This is disturbing AF: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5jkwqv

Netflix has a lot to answer for how they paint sides to their true crime just to sensationalize the story more.

This is a very real thing in Canada and has been used multiple times in high profile cases that I can think of just off the top of my head.

One of the worst misuses of power to come out of this bullshit revolved around the case of a young couple who it was alleged had a bombing plot in play for Canada day a few years ago.

HERE is a good read where they discuss the case and it's aftermath.

I honestly see this "Mr. Big" technique would be futile and dated used on some of the cyber criminals and/or vendors. Maybe lower hanging fruit, but those are ripe for the picking anyways

It said the One kid used up all his appeals and is serving three life sentences... because of a technique that is illegal to use. He must have had some shitty lawyers to lose the case 3 times.

I still dont believe they did it. you'll have to watch the episode to see.

It still happens. The legality of the technique was challenged all the way to Supreme court: it was slighly stiffled, but all it changed is that LEO now has to jump through a couple of legal hoops before they use it.
