I had two packages delivered today to a PO box. Clerk confirmed they arrived. But then the USPS person collecting the outgoing mail mysteriously picked that up, and I was told to call back later.
My paranoid voice in my head worries they might ask me to sign for it as a covert controlled delivery. Nonetheless, I can always tell them I didn't know what was in the package, but from personal experience I know that opportunity happens after sitting in jail.
Has anyone heard of this as a tactic? Any advice on what to anticipate, look for, and how to respond. I have a few hours before I was told to call them.
So its not possible that it could have been a misdelivery and postman realized it before he left? I assume this all happened in the span of the mailman's single visit - ie, he dropped off all the mail, picked out outgoing, and then grabbed the pack again? This makes no sense honestly. The absolutely only way this makes sense in my opinion is if either the pack was short on postage and caught REALLY late in the process OR something with the pack caught the mailman's eye - it would have to be big though for him to care - like the contraband became visisble somehow and the mailman saw it and took it back.
I wouldn't try to claim it personally. If this pack was seized while in transit and a CD was planned, this is extremely sloppy letting it go through. I just don't think that would happen. If a pack were found to contain contraband, they'd have pulled it from the mailstream and the usual mailman would never touch it. CD are done by postal inspectors and LEO I believe and most certainly the usual postman wouldn't perform it. So this leads me to think its not CD related (if it is, very, very sloppy work) unless the mailman noticed an odor or saw something that looked suspicious.
I wouldn't say this is a tactic. I'd say its either very sloppy work if its a seized pack OR its postage stamp problem OR mailman noticed something. Very odd. Please keep us updated.
Did the clerk say whether or not this was the usual mailman? That's really odd about calling back later. I'd contact the vendor and ask him to track the package to see what the tracking says. It could be completely mundane. But even so, I would think twice about pursuing it. I don't know. Let the vendor know what happened b/c if its something non-legal related, you don't want it returned to sender. I think the vendor should be made aware and should look up tracking for you. He might be able to gather more info. No pink slip at all???
