Dear Old Uncle David

Hey folks, hope the has been great for everyone!

As I've wandered this great earth over the years I've met many great souls and have been introduced to many of the nuances of the world by a disparrate cast of characters there is one who always stands out. The guy who gave me my first drink of whisky (not just those little sips that dad gave out in the den), the guy who showed me how to roll a joint, the guy who gave me my first chaw of Redman (ok, that one sucked!), essentially the guy who showed you how the world really ran. For some it was an older brother, others it was a boss at the record store, for me it was my Dear Old Uncle David.

David was a vietnam vet and was a little 'off' according to my folks, but he was still my Uncle. He'd show up at weird times, say weird things and always smelled a bit weird (especially in the van!) but he taught me how to be a "Man" in ways that my father and brothers never could.

As I spend this last weekend celebrating the life of my Dear Old Uncle David with my toes in the sand I'm asking you guys to tell me your stories, we all had an Uncle David who taught us the ropes in ways that no one else could so let's hear about yours.

Stay Safe GrandpaJoe

My first roommate taught me how to walk, talk, act and stop making myself a fool. How to cut coke and sell drugs and by that how to make money. Kid really taught me alot, unfortunately he's also a real addict and all I taught him was how to get shit at half the price, shipped to your door. Fair trade right?

I have a friend that currently lives very far from me. I taught them how to use the markets and even bought a small sample for them.

That makes me the Uncle David.

Being the old fart i feel like i am (over 25 younger than 35) i have met some great people who i wish i could see again. I had a great friend who's father had this huge grow in california during the 90s-00s. He was big enough to say i wouldn't be surprised if some of the bigger bud vendors recognized his name if they were around in his days.

anyways, his father really took care of us. i had little to no family growing up (only my bro). I say about 8 times out of the year he would take all three of us on cool ass adventures and let us see the states in such a cool aspect. remember, this is before social media so it was a lot cooler seeing it for the first time ever. just to name a few, the grand canyon, miami, the bahamas, every street in cali(yanno what i mean), everywhere. He was practically our father.

my brother and i would go out to see the grow every summer with my friend. His father would pay for the flight and everything, we never had to pay a dime (as if we had any$ in the first place). I remember seeing the most weed i'd ever seen in my life (to this day) He said it was an estimated 650 pounds but they "can't be bothered to double check" which was obviously sarcasm but it went to show how much they actually were moving and whatever.

he showed me how to roll my first joint, my first blunt, how to blow my own glass, everything. he would always give my brother and i great life advice each time too. he understood where we came from and wanted to give us a different view on what life could be. it hit my heart hard at the time because i grew up poor as ever.

He has now sadly passed away. i remember the day he died, i was more upset than his own son it seemed. He was the closest to a father figure i ever had but it really, really shaped how i grew up. He handed his son the "business" when he passed away and now his son, my brother, and i run that shit. One day every year in july we smoke a qp to the face in memory of him. Greatest man i ever met, wish i could still talk to him

How did this get a sticky? I like the content, just seems very random for this sub.

My uncle Dave showed me playboy and pot. Best things in life pot and women.

It was his real name oddly. He died of cancer long time back. But he was my dad/brother/friend will always miss him.

Unfortunately for me, I never had that person. I had to see for myself how the world ran.

Did your Uncle Dave touch you in those SPECIAL places ?

I don't have an Uncle David. If I did, I wouldn't tell stories about him on reddit. And you're not my grandpa. But your post made me think of a sunset, so ... not sure what that's worth. Are you sitting in a rocking chair?

Did Uncle Dave make you a man too?

Random kind folks on the Internet explaining things I was curious about 😌. Then my first music festival I finally understood people to a greater degree.

I try to pay it forward
