Need help with something a little different

Alright guys, so my procrastinating ass has put off a group writing assignment in a bullshit class for the past two months and it's finally time to sit down and do something about it. We were asked to pick a communication-oriented topic and split it into different subtopics to briefly analyze. My group picked the internet and during discussions one girl mentioned that the spooky darknet would probably be an interesting topic to write about, so naturally I said that I would look into it.

Now, this paper doesn't need to go into much detail on the intricacies of Tor and encryption practices, but it should outline some of the criminal AND beneficial uses of privacy-based networks. I'm not looking to out myself as a drug-ordering nerd in the paper so I'm going to try not to include much about the markets or whatever else is covered in in those retarded "SCaRy D33PW3B storiez" type YouTube videos.

My current outline goes into the MSM and public's perception of crime on the internet, a brief history of Tor (Navy developed) and its positive/"negative" uses. One of the things I want to touch on the most is the use of anonymous networks to bypass state-sponsored censorship like we see over in China. I think that would distance the topic from "look you can buy drugs online" to "this shit is actually useful for non-criminals".

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Major uses for Tor that are not darknet markets:

Also, possibly, victims of abusive spouses or stalkers.

I would mention at least briefly how powerful a tool public key cryptography is. It's a big deal to be able to widely publish an encryption key that allows someone to send you secret messages, instead of having the old "chicken-and-the-egg" problem of passing someone a key without having it intercepted.

Like Radio said it is a government issue. People can do as they please. Encryption is a fucking math problem. You can't regulate math.

they don't think it be like it is but it do. Seriously. It's dark, it's deep, it's the web and it's how we darknet motherfuckers communicate/get things done. We don't like Cheese Pizza and guns are ridiculous, so don't even ask. We have to maintain our anonymity b/c a lot of us have to maintain a normal looking perception and we don't have time or energy to go down to our local dealer and deal with whatever shit that involves. People are going to what they are going to do. Security is getting better, but so are the police. Constant cat and mouse. Some people are looking for plan b in states where they can't get it. I smoke weed in a state that is just now accepting medical marijuana. Some people had pills proscribed by some fucking twat doctor who then took them off after 8 weeks leaving them with a love for whatevs. they come here. it's safe, clean and effective
