I hear that we all should use Tails as oppose to Windows etc.
Could you run Tor through a VM and what extra layer of security would that give?
Also benefits does Tails have over VM?

this will probably come across as a dumb question, or perhaps the dumb one will end up being the person who corrected me me in a post...either way
I read on /r/DarkNetMarkets that running tails in a vm (in this case through windows 7 x64 SP1 lets say) defeats the purpose of running tails in some one. I get its not exactly a throwaway usb stick this way, but as for anonymity, profiling, info leaking (headers or agent info etc) and as far as i know EVERYTHING else would be precisely as secure and anonymous as running it natively, with no hard disk in the computer at all, persistant or not. I figured simply based on the ability to do it whonix style is mandatory VM...like thats how its distributed right - in a vm container?
If i ran tails in a vm, wouldn't i also just be able to delete the container (.vmdx or whatever) and it be the equivilent of "throwing it into the river"?
If its on a SSD and I use one of those legit (do they make one?) File shredder apps...No magnetic recovery, and its scrubbed/shredded from the FAT.
Sorry for hijacking your thread /u/UndercoverLE - but it was relevant, and i want to run tails or whonix and was curious enough to click your thread :)

Where is the vm running?

VM would work for someone like me, because I am nerdy as fuck and have like 10 VMs already on my computer. May be suspicious for others. I have windows 98, dos, linux, os2 warp 4, and MacOS X lmao...
If you wanted to run a virtual machine look up 'Whonix' which is a lightweight OS with tons of advanced security features built in and forces all your network traffic through tor.

Whonix is much stronger than tails, the only advantage tails has is it doesnt store information on your HDD whereas Whonix does so you should sanitize regularly and maybe keep a copy of dban handy.
