How do you justify your drug use to somebody else? (Non-drug user)

I'm not against drugs. I enjoy the consumption in recreational doses but lately I have been hackled by my peers that don't consume these substances and I'm just wondering what your guys thoughts & opinions are on this topic. Peace

edit: so the general consensus; (summarized in my words) *nobody needs to know *its my body, my life, my choices *I don't need to justify anything to anybody *doesn't matter what other people think, just do what you love because in the end your still you and their still them and life goes on... (my personal favorite). Stay safe and keep it in moderation my friends

Some people collect stamps. I collect experiences.

"It's my body."

"It's not like I'm doing crack is it?" (Note, this won't work if you are actually doing crack)

The majority of my friend group regularly do drugs so we don't really have that discussion anyway.

I point them to the empty fields where I grow all my fucks.

[8 Points] thascarecro:

That you choose to use drugs that dont kill millions like cigarettes and alcohol. Ask them why they choose to use a drug(alcohol) that has ruined thousands of lives by drunk driving? This is of course guessing that they are ok with alcohol. I know when i was in high school, everyone was drinking at some point. Now at work, i know most of them drink beers or wine. I'll get shit for weed and i'll reply back with a FACT about alcohol and a FACT about weed. That usually shuts them right up.

you don't

[4 Points] throwaway64dedr:

You don't, you tell them to fuck off and get out of your life, if they can't handle your (hopefully) cautious and controlled use of drugs. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life mannnnn. Hit this. :D Seriously though, if it's someone who wants to be in your life, they will understand, or put up with it long enough to be with you. Just try not to be drugged out (stupid word choice because of non specific word choice of yours) when you are with them, and they will feel at ease. Orrrrr you can punch them in the solar plexus and then kick them off of a very tall building.

When I was a lad, I dated a straight-edge girl. It was cutting edge- everyone was into punk rock, hard drugs, and easy sex- she was anti-all that, and for whatever reason that got my attention.

It was a terrible idea. Now, how I deal with it is avoiding the situation- if we're friends, you're either a casual/heavy drug user, or you're open to the idea that others can be while remaining productive/functional members of society. If it's someone I have to deal with and can't just cut out of my life (my brother, for example), then I just don't mention drug use and don't show up high. Anything beyond that, they're free to speculate but I'm not engaging.

Don't worry about there opinion. Live life to the fullest. Do what you love! :)

"Fuck you, I'm not even on duty right now."

[2 Points] chrissorrenson:

If the topic does come up with family or friends, I'll usually just refer to any drug use in the long-past sense, and see how they react first. If they react with enthusiasm, then I might share more current stories with them. If they react negatively or indifferently, then I never mention it again.

[2 Points] None:

yeah I use drugs, I do what I want, it's my hot body, I do what I want

but in all seriousness I don't really hang out with people who don't do drugs. at the very least they smoke weed. upon meeting me it's incredibly obvious I'm a stoner, asking me to hide that would be impossible. fairly open about psychedelic usage, less so with things like MDPV, and the only people outside of a few close friends that know I'm spun outta my mind 24/7 are the people getting spun outta their mind 24/7 with me.

[2 Points] yesidoes:

Start making them justify every piece of food they eat which you don't agree with.

[4 Points] Vendor_BBMC:

I don't justify it.

I don't need to, because I'm a man.

But if I had to, I'd say its because its my job. They say "Never trust a thin chef".

You'd laugh if you could see me. I've got 5 bowls of pearl (powdered meth) in front of me, and 5 clean pipes. Ive got to assess them all, and decide which ones are ready for "the pot" to be grown slowly into shards overnight, and how to improve each of the sub-par bowls.

Wine tasters spit it out. I breathe it out.

I have to take it for the team. If my brain doesn't like it, then its not ready for my customer's brains. I think its more important to be an excellent drug connoisseur than an excellent chemist

[1 Points] None:

I don't talk about drugs in front of anyone unless they bring it up in a positive way.

[1 Points] flipadelphia2:

They must consume drugs, its part of human culture. Its just culture dependent which drugs are taboo and which are not. Even children are allowed to partake in chocolate and caffeine.

"Alcohol isn't a drug! ITS A DRINK!"

If I have to defend my choices:

I pay my own bills, am a grown man and can take care of myself. As long as these are true, I can do whatever I want.

[1 Points] namekian:

never justify, fuck who's watching. we're ALL addicted, we're ALL users of something.

[1 Points] II-NataYmleg:

Why do I have to "justify" anything about my lifestyle, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else? If someone who definitely doesn't know shit about it starts talking drugs to me, I make sure to mention alcohol/alcoholism, or something unhealthy or unsustainable about their own lifestyle in the very next sentence, after a reflection pause of no more that 2 seconds.

Such I instantly get them into a position where they have to justify themselves and they'll lose interest in further discussion rapidly.

[1 Points] None:

My ass is grown, I don't have to explain why I do what I do.

[1 Points] thecatnipkittty:

as someone that once consumed enough acid to realize i was a cat, honesty was the only way, theres no other excuse for wearing cat ears and a tail everyday that would cut it. when people asked me why i took drugs, i got them to explain why they dont, then shot holes threw there "drugs are just bad/unsafe" argument. most people only have there opinion threw social programming and no research of there own, do some research, learn big words and a few neroscience terms and people get confused and stop arguing... or give up and try drugs (not that i ever pressured people into trying drugs, just explained them in a more truthfull way)

[1 Points] heyfreshhhhh:

I don't.

[1 Points] se7enthrow:

I don't. Telling someone I use is a fucking stupid idea. Safety in anonymity works better IRL than it does on the internet. If I were to justify it, I have clinical insomnia, no sleeping pill has ever worked, some have the opposite effect. I use what works. What works is illegal. That's about all there is to it.

[1 Points] Trappy_Pandora:

Its my job. Professional weed smoking isn't easy and it takes its toll.

Okay that was a lie, its really easy and its a dream come true but still its an overwhelming job at times. We have a new strain out now and more that aren't ready for public release yet and so I'll have to pull double shifts to smoke this product and determine if we keep our stock as flowers or if we turn it into wax. Even worse, I have to come up with a metric to determine how we decide which strains to turn into wax or sell as flowers or to do both.

[1 Points] nebuchadrezzar:

There is no reason to justify personal choices that don't harm others. If they mention the violence that is a part of the drug war, you may as well ask why they pay taxes to support the drug war. They need to justify their heckling, not you justify recreational drug use.

[1 Points] loveisrealnfa:

I gave up trying. Not worth my time if they r too stupid to realize that illegality doesn't equal immorality.

[1 Points] seducer4real:

Unless you want to get caught by LE, tell no one. Simple as.

[1 Points] guest20253:

This is a never-ending discussion and majority of people who don't do drugs and are against it will never agree with those who do, no matter what their reasons are.

I, personally, have an agenda and almost like a goal, to succeed in every aspect of life while still using drugs. Generally, if you support drug use, people will think that you have some serious issues or have no self-control/motivation to live your life without it. So far in my life, drugs have never caused any serious troubles for me, and one day I'm hoping to prove everyone that you can live a successful and qualitative life while still using drugs. Imo it's the only way to prove that not all people who do drugs are miserable and hopeless, but also educated, sophisticated and well-mannered. I also suggest more people do this and prove world wrong.

[1 Points] DNMThrowawayyfoe:

Don't know if I'm too late to the party, but here's my take. First of all your peers "hackling" you is not because of drugs, it's because they're dicks. I think that anybody that takes drugs has no right to ridicule anyone, to any degree, that doesn't partake.

Second of all, I think you went into this thinking we're either ashamed, or think our drug habit is a bad thing. Quite the contrary. I consider myself very fortunate to have been introduced to this world, because it's given me innumerable experiences that are literally impossible to describe to you. LSD is a thrill ride that you've never even come close to in all your life. It's literally the most insane shit on this earth. Manipulating the chemicals in your brain (safely) to produce psychoactive effects for recreation. It's like your brain is replaced by another brain that receives and reacts to senses completely different than how you normally do. And it's exhilarating.

Lastly, I don't think anybody would consider the need to "justify" their drug habit. Whether they are actually ashamed of the reason they take drugs (they're out there, we all know it. people who take it just a little too far and become way too reliant, however I would consider that the effect of the some outside force other than drugs), or they're like myself and wear it as a modest "Yeah dude I did this shit" badge, all there really is to say is "This is something I enjoy. I'm not hurting anybody else with it. I'm an adult and have weighed the effects it will have on me and have chosen to continue anyway, what do you care? Why should I have to justify a good reason to you. The only real reason is that it makes me feel good. I'm sorry if that's not a "justified" answer but that's all there is.

And that's when it becomes a cluster fuck. People trying to justify, and other people poking holes. It's difficult for either side to really rationalize the other's opinion. I feel it comes down to how you grew up and became accustomed to thinking about drugs.

[1 Points] Theeconomist1:

You'll always be heckled by people who advocate abstainence and these same fucks probably drink themselves silly every weekend, but its alcohol, its alright, right? True friends will know when you are fucking up your life over drugs and will step in to help. But if its not interfering with your life, then it is what it is. Anti-drug folks will probably never be comfortable with your drug use and you won't be able to use in front of them. Your choices are: Get new friends, stop doing drugs, or just don't tell them and unless you are obvious with it, they won't know. I believe you can use drugs and be perfectly functional. But like your choice is to use drugs, theirs is to abstain and that's fine. You shouldn't try to convince them or otherwise justify. A good friend will look out for you and respect your choices, even if they disagree with them. Now if you get yourself where you could qualify to be on an episode of Intervention, that's a different story.

I've long said that drugs should be used to enhance your life and your experiences, not to replace them. If you find yourself using drugs and holing up in your own world, unless you were like this before b/c you are very introverted, its probably time to re-assess your lifestyle. If drugs ever become your primary way to live, cut back. Its an enhancement, not a replacement, for living.
