In the same way I don't need to give up my password to LE, can I do the same thing if I we're to have a safe?

I'm not in trouble with the law or anything, I'm just wondering. Oh and I meant atleast in the US, I know everywhere is different. I know I can just clean house if anything happens but If I don't know when that will be, I didn't know if having a safe would be a decent alternative. I guess they could just break into it, but I'm not a huge time dealer or anything, just little stuff here and there. So I don't know if it'd even be worth it to them or how often they spend the time and energy to break into safes.

Yes, but if they have a warrant, they will just get a locksmith to drill it open.

when ordering off DNM it's pretty unlikely they're just randomly gonna show up, unless it's for a totally unrelated reason (like you're dealing in real life too). so just clean house about when you know an order's gonna be coming in. 48 hours or so after placing a domestic order, I clean house.

if they're already in your house with a warrant, a safe's not gonna prevent shit, might as well just open it for them when they ask.

What are you basing "I don't need to give up my password" on?

[2 Points] druggieslut:

No. Either give em the combination or buy a new safe after they open it the "other" way..

[2 Points] LockManipulator:

If you want to know how insecure your safe is, buy this book and you'll be able to open your safe without any tools and without having to know the combination.

So it doesn't matter if you have to give up the combo or not, it's trivial to get in.

hide that shit in something better than a safe :) underground I tell ya!

To actually answer your question, the Courts have held that you can be compelled to give up your combination to your safe. They have held, wrongly in my opinion, that it does not violate your fifth amendment right against self-incrimination. They do need a court order, however.

Breaking into any safe you would buy is a 5 minute procedure.

First of all, I am not a lawyer. I am not a lawyer. I am not a lawyer. I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice, because legal advice is something you get from a lawyer.

Now, moving on... From what I understand, you can be forced to give up the key to a safe, but you can't be forced to give up a password or combination because if evidence of a crime were to be found inside it would be considered self incrimination, and you can't be forced to incriminate yourself.

Maybe you should ask /r/legaladvice? The people with the gold stars next to their usernames are verified lawyers. Let us know what you find out if you do decide to post there.
