Anonymous hotel room?

I would ask in /r/privacy but you all would likely have better answers.

Is it possible to rent a hotel room anonymously? Obviously you could probably find a shithole that would take just cash with no card on file but this is not the place I'd rather try to sleep.

I'd be shooting for Super 8/motel 6/best western or nicer.

You can rent rooms with btc but you still have to show I'd to check in and put a card on file in case you destroy the room, steal stuff, etc.

I thought maybe a fake ID and using some sort of prepaid visa gift card but I'm sure there's about 6 things wrong with that idea.

I used to work at a nicer hotel, we would look at your ID when you checked in but we never checked if it was real or anything. We also didn't retain records of them. I've also used my fake ID to check into hotels.

I think the thing that'll make it difficult is the credit card though. I can't speak for all hotels, but our system wouldn't accept prepaid Visa cards or things like that. You might be able to pay for the room via a site like Expedia and use a prepaid card for that, but you'll still have to give them a credit card when you check-in, and they'll usually authorize it for some amount for incidentals. They make it difficult because in the event that you trash the room, they're gonna want to find you and make you pay for it.

You'll want a smaller hotel operated by an Indian immigrant (from India, to make it clear for you yanks). They like cash for tax reasons, and won't ask too many questions if you give them cash and are polite You can avoid the cc holding by leaving a cash deposit
