What happens after quantum computers?

So obviously once quantum computers are more widespread, there will be stronger encryption and more busts for the first year or so, but how much will change once the FBI, CIA, DEA, etc... have many, many quantum computers? I'm just curious considering what Microsoft recently said...

Quantum computing will make for some mind blowing porn.

In Russia some dudes were arrested for BTC mining on one of quantum super-computers inside the nuclear power plant LOL Russian nuclear scientists arrested

Quantum computers are a meme. Like fusion power its always 50 years away.

What did Microsoft say?

Monero hired mathematicians to combat quantum computers

Well, all public crypto will be dead, so we'll be switching to something different. There are conferences about this and a lot of alternatives exist, but their security properties are not as well explored as the ones based on discrete logarithm and prime factorization. Additionally, the public keys are much larger. People have been studying this for a long, long time.

Based on what I've seen, read, and researched; I think McEliece with modifications will be the most likely candidate to replace ECC.

It'll also be interesting if a Signal type ratcheting system will make any quantum based attacks cost prohibitive for lower level targets like us. We'll have to see how stable, reliable, and affordable real systems will be.

You hope that when the NSA cracks their exabytes of encrypted data that you have plausible deniability or the statute of limitations has passed.

That said I think we're years away from real quantum computers that can crack our encryption, researchers are working on quantum-resistant encryption, and the statute on most federal drug charges is five years, so I feel pretty good about my odds of getting away with it all.

Many big players will be thanking themselves for having used proper drops. :P

Dood, this is some next level shit disturbing.
