Alphabay OFFICIAL announcement about 2FA

No, this isn't about downtime as we haven't had any lately. This is about 2FA and our policies regarding it.

We recently made 2FA mandatory for all vendors and do you know what happened? Phishing dropped by 90%. If you don't have your market bookmarked on your persistent drive on your tails then you need 2FA. I cannot stress this enough when there are assholes making thousands of dollars each month stealing from the DNM community from phshing you, from infecting your windows computer with malware, and from doing all sorts of attacks.

But things can happen, and you may need your 2FA removed. I don't care what your PIN is, I don't care what your old passwords are, I don't care what you've bought or sold how many times. I want your mnemnomic, and I want a PGP signed message, and if you have it I want a complete history of your deposits and withdrawals.

2FA removal is a big deal. Your tails drive can crash, your hard drive can too, you can move and leave your computer behind. Whatever you do, do not lose your mnemnomic. We have been more lenient in the past about it, but we will no longer.

Thank you.

The mnemonic is only shown once (when users register), so unless you registered on a phishing site, everyone should have it. We cannot reset without the mnemonic because:

There is a very popular phishihg link pwoah...6mt6 (dot) onion that many users use; we ask users to stop using phishing links, as it gives too much work to support and also causes users to lose coins.

This is also outlined in the admin's security guide in the Announcements section: Never use phishing links, it's just not worth it.

Seems like the much needed security update have helped on the phishing. Hopefully people will then remember to backup their PGP keys as well as saving the provided mnemnomic should the day ever come.

Keep it up it Trappy, you do not get much love around here but you are doing fine PR work with this one. Maybe be a little more calm and collected - The more hostile you seem the more hate people will throw your way.

I'd like to note that these are all the same requirements for a vendor bond refund for when you are done selling.

Can you fix the index.php error please...

what if we lost our mnemonic and still have access to the account? then what.

Whatever happened whether it be CrimeWave was nailed by your friends or 2-FA. Or a combination of both. It has reduced substantialy.

Now help Ninjalexi and we can call it a day

I'll just stick to Dream lol

Are you now getting a problem with people pretending to be locked -out vendors?

Or are you getting a lot of vendors locked out?

A vendor with live listings has to login every day. If somebody claiming to be a vendor says he can't access his vendor account, you need to:-

A) Set the vendor to vacation mode to hide his listings, and

B) Know that if the REAL vendor doesn't login for 48 hours, the vendor is GENUINELY locked out of his vendor account.

If lots of vendors get locked out, but their listings are up, customers will deposit btc onto your site and order things they won't receive. the vendors will receive bitcoin they can't get out of alphabay.

This to me sounds like a variation of the classic "one-way bitcoin valve" scam, where the market is fattenned before going dark and being butchered.

Furthermore, it looks like the wallets you abandoned last month are being used to collect the commission from each deal, and you're not bothering to collect it because mere commission doesn't interest Alphabay this month

https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/AlphaBayMarket

If you are a commission-based marketplace, you should collect your commission if you want a sustainable business. There's $13,000 just sitting there like you don't know where to stash it. Compared to alphabay's two previous wallet structures, this one doesn't appear optimized for earning a living from your commission.

What is it optimized for? ALPHABAY:- Problems, problems, problems
