[OPSEC/Computer] What factors/steps go into the police/DEA raiding/busting a seller?

Basically my question is what type and amount of suspicion/evidence do the police need to have to perform a raid/bust?

This isn't necessarily dnm related I just figured this was the best subversion to ask, but say I'm selling weed out of my home which I purchased locally and not on the dnm.

So the first step would be getting on the radar of the police or DEA. But how do police find their targets? I would imagine

So now you've ended up on a list for the police to investigate. I assume they can't just pull your cell phone and call logs without probable cause nor can they raid your house until they collect more evidence.

In order to collect more evidence the police can either try to set up somebody to purchase from me and monitor/record the transaction or the police could monitor my home for suspicious activity. Besides monitoring your mail what other ways can the police gain additional evidence?

At this point did the authorities pretty much have to bust somebody leaving my place and get them to turn over on me in order to have enough evidence for a bust? Was a certain type of activity enough to warrant a raid without the police having first hand verification?

IMO, a lot of busts are caused from a customer getting arrested, and ratting you out to keep their ass out of jail. Simple as that.

They may have a confidential informant (ci) buy from you a couple of times to build a case then raid your house and sieze your car if it was used to sell drugs.

It may be helpful to read through the cases in http://www.gwern.net/Black-market%20arrests
