Prescribing Information
(1 Combikit of 1 Tablet of Mifepristone 200 mg and 4 Tablets of Misoprostol 200 mcg)

Read this information carefully before taking Mifepristone and Misoprostol tablets. It will help you to understand how the treatment works. This MEDICATION GUIDE does not substitute your qualified provider’s advice.
What is Medical termination of pregnancy?
Medical termination of pregnancy is the termination of intra-uterine pregnancy by taking medication. The medicines which are commonly used for medical termination of pregnancy are Mifepristone and Misoprostol.
Indication: MEDABON is indicated for medical termination of developing intra-uterine pregnancy up to 63 days gestation.
Note: MEDABON can only be prescribed and administered in accordance with the countries national laws and regulations.
What is the treatment procedure with MEDABON?
The treatment is one tablet of Mifepristone (200 mg) administered orally as a single dose, followed by the vaginal insertion of 4 tablets each containing 200 mcg of Misoprostol 24 hours later.
A follow-up visit approximately 2 weeks after MA enables a qualified and registered provider to confirm the abortion is complete.
How does MEDABON work?
Mifepristone is an antiprogestin, which blocks progesterone activity in the uterus, leading to detachment of the products of conception. Mifepristone makes the uterus more sensitive to prostaglandins (like Misoprostol) and softens the cervix.
Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin, which stimulates uterine contractions and causes the uterine evacuation of the products of conception.
How should I take MEDABON?
Day 1 at a qualified provider:
Your provider will discuss the benefits and risks of using MEDABON. After the physical examination, and the exclusion of an ectopic pregnancy, swallow one tablet of Mifepristone 200 mg under the supervision of the qualified provider. Most women will feel no change after taking Mifepristone; however, bleeding or spotting can occasionally happen before taking Misoprostol.
Day 2 at home:
24 hours after the intake of Mifepristone, vaginal administration of 4 tablets of Misoprostol. The woman must lie down for 30 minutes after the tablet has been inserted. Bleeding should start within 3-4 hours after Misoprostol administration. Administration of Misoprostol causes cramps, nausea, and may cause diarrhea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, back pain, fever – warmth or chills.
Day 10-14 at the center:
This follow up visit is very important. You must visit your provider to confirm the completion of the medical termination of pregnancy.
Who should not take MEDABON?
Administration of MEDABON for the termination of pregnancy is contraindicated in patients with any one of the following conditions:
Pregnancy greater than 9 weeks (63 days) of gestation
History of allergy or known hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the excipients
Clients who do not have adequate access to medical facilities equipped to provide emergency treatment of incomplete abortion, blood transfusions, and emergency resuscitation during the period from the first visit until discharged by the administering physician.
Previous known allergies to prostaglandins
Serious pelvic infection
Chronic adrenal failure
Taking anticoagulants or corticosteroids
Confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy
IUD in place
Hemorrhagic disorders
Inherited porphyria

Precautions:
IUD in lace (remove before beginning regimen)
Severe anemia or severe/unstable health problems
Steroid-dependent women (combination Mifepristone/Misoprostol regimen only)

Other issues to manage, but does not preclude a woman from taking medical abortion:
Poorly controlled asthma or rheumatoid arthritis
Breast-feeding
HIV/AIDS (check for anemia)
What is the most important information I should know about MEDABON?
Cramping and bleeding are the part of medical termination of pregnancy. Ibuprofen or paracetamol can be taken for pain management. Rare problems like severe bleeding, infections or other problems can occur following medical abortion. Prompt medical attention is needed in these circumstances.
Kindly contact your provider if you have one of the following conditions:
Heavy Bleeding: In some cases, bleeding can be so heavy that it requires surgical intervention to stop. Contact your provider right away if you bleed and soak two or more full-size sanitary pads per hour for two consecutive hours.
Abdominal pain or “Feeling Sick”: If you have abdominal pain or discomfort, or you are “feeling sick” including weakness, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, with or without fever, more than 24 hours after taking Misoprostol, you should contact your provider.
Fever: After treatment, if you have a fever over 38 C for longer than 24 hours, you should contact your doctor right away. Fever may be a symptom of a serious infection.
What to do if the products of conception still persist?
There is a small risk that MA will not work, meaning the pregnancy may continue after taking the medications. A continuing pregnancy is suggested by a lack of vaginal bleeding, persistent pregnancy symptoms and/or increasing uterine size. The standard treatment for ongoing pregnancy is vacuum aspiration. However, if no other safe abortion method is available, repeating Misoprostol is recommended during follow up visit.
What should I avoid while taking MEDABON?
Do not take any other medicines (including herbal medicines or supplements) without asking your doctor because they may interfere with the treatment. Ask your doctor about what medicines you can take for pain. If you are breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor before taking MEDABON.
What are the possible side effects of MEDABON?
Cramping and bleeding are part of the treatment with MEDABON. Other common side-effects of the treatment include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, back pain and fever, warmth or chills.
When should I begin birth control?
Ovulation may occur within 10 days after abortion and you can become pregnant again right after your pregnancy ends. Start using birth control as soon as your pregnancy ends or before you start having sexual intercourse again.
Hormonal contraceptives (oral contraceptive pill, DMPA and implants) can be started on the day or the day after Misoprostol is taken. IUD may be inserted when abortion is confirmed at the follow-up visit (10-14 days after).
